This is a small family breeder, and each of the seven members is involved in the program. Besides dogs, the family also has two cats and a rabbit. They make sure that their dogs socialize, play, and get familiar with people and other animals to make sure that they fit in at any home effortlessly. If you choose to get your puppy from this breeder, it will come with its first vaccines, deworming and dewclaws removed. However, we recommend taking into account the following points to discard any possibility of dealing with a puppy mill, places where puppies are produced massively without prioritizing the health of any of the involved animals. Health state of the puppy Typically, puppies are full of energy. Good breeders will maintain them as clean as possible and quite chubby. Therefore, a sign that something wrong is going on can be your first impression of the pup. Your puppy should also be treated against flea. If you feel like something is off, we recommend asking the breeder directly. If the father is not present at the moment, you can always ask the breeder about contact information regarding its current location to get to know more about the puppy. Getting to know the parents will let you know more about your puppy. Most dogs inherit their personality from their parents! Facilities Some breeders will post pictures of their facilities and will be more than happy to let you explore them if they allow visits, of course. It is important to make sure that your new pet comes from a healthy, loving environment. After all, we all can set up a picture and make it seem like a happy place. Guarantee Most breeders will offer you from one to three years of genetic health warranty. Besides that, they will also give you 72 hours to get the puppy checked by a licensed veterinarian to discard any potential life-threatening condition. Either of the options described can result in a refund, or the breeder may allow you to choose another puppy from a different breeder. Documentation Your puppy should always come with the right documentation. This way, you can prove that there is nothing wrong with it and that all the due examinations and processes were done. For instance, you should receive the microchip, change of ownership, and health certificate papers. We hope that you meet your new fur friend soon! The sad truth is that many pet store purchased pups actually come from puppy mills. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. When it comes to adopting any animal from a pet store, there is an increased risk of unforeseen health or genetic problems. You also cultivate a life-long relationship with the breeder, meaning support is available to you anytime you may need it. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. Goldens sport a double-coat, which ensures that these sweet pups are able to tolerate slightly colder temperatures than their friends from other breeds. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. For more about the true price of a golden retriever puppy, you can read our full price breakdown here. Location Information for Oregon Customers Our home office is located in Ohio, but we understand that long-distance travel can be inconvenient. If you prefer to meet a breeder in person, they may be able to offer private visits at their home. Of course! Here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we value family and authenticity, which is why we always guarantee our pups through our 2-year genetic health guarantee. How much is a French Bulldog puppy? Most French Bulldogs are sold or adopted as puppies, so the cost and considerations above apply to puppies and adults. Younger dogs will likely cost more because people prefer to bring puppies into their homes for several reasons. Puppies are cuter and easier to train, and owners get more time with them because they are younger. Most breeders will not sell puppies until they are at least eight weeks old because they need to spend their first two months of life with their mother. So the youngest you can usually get a French Bulldog is eight to ten weeks. An eight-week-old French Bulldog will cost more than a six-month-old French Bulldog simply because there is a higher demand for very young puppies. Learn about the top factors that increase the price of a Frenchie below. Colors and Patterns The color is possibly the most important factor in the cost of a French Bulldog. There are several coat color options, and some are rarer and more sought after than others. Sable: Sable is a light brown, beige-ish color. Sable is one of the most common colors in French Bulldogs, so sable dogs are not typically more expensive or sought after. The color is the same as a fawn, except their snout and sometimes the tip of their tail are black. Blue French Bulldog: Blue dogs are popular among celebrities and the extremely wealthy, boosting. The color is a cool-toned dark gray, almost a soft blue. The gray is comparable to slate gray. They need two dilution genes to create this color, which can lead to some coat-related health problems like alopecia. Despite the potential health problems, people pay high prices for blue Frenchies. Chocolate: Surprisingly, chocolate Frenchies are very rare. The chocolate color requires two recessive chocolate genes but is not associated with health problems. Chocolate Frenchies can be dark, deep brown, or soft brown. Aside from the delicious coat color, chocolate Frenchies are popular because they often have unique eye colors, like green, gold, bright yellow, and even orange. Lilac French Bulldog : Like blue Frenchies, lilac Frenchies are rare and in high demand among famous and wealthy people. The color typically requires two chocolate genes and two blue genes , which are both rare. Other unusual gene combinations can result in the lilac color. They can suffer from the same health problems as blue dogs, but they cost twice as much. Isabella Frenchies are lilac dogs with a proven genetic code for the color. Cream: Cream Frenchies have an eggshell or cream-colored coat. Their coat has a subtle tan tint, and they often have dark-colored snouts. Their features are typically black, unlike white bulldogs with lighter, pinker features. White: White Frenchies are a bit more common than cream Frenchies, and they have a much brighter, lighter white coat. As mentioned above, they often have light features, like pink eye rims, bright pink ears, and sometimes a pink nose. Pure Black: Pure black Frenchies are surprisingly rare. Black genes are not rare, but the lack of genes for any markings can be hard to cultivate. Most Frenchies with black genes are merle or have tan markings, so pure black coats are harder to find. Black and Tan: Black and tan Frenchies are rarer than you may expect, but not nearly as hard to find as blue, cream, white, pure black, or lilac dogs. Many breeders specialize in black and tan dogs, so they can be pretty expensive. They are typically mostly black with tan marketing on their chest, face, and paws, but can also be mostly tan with black markings. Black and White: Black and white Frenchies are just as common as black and tan, but will almost always be primarily black with white chests or necks. There are also Piebald Frenchies, which are technically a different coat color and are primarily white not cream with large black spots on their backsides and rear. Merle: Merle French Bulldogs are different because this coat pattern is unnatural in their genetic code. Merle dogs have spots and patches, usually black and gray. Dogs with this coat often have health issues like eye and ear problems. Merle dogs are rare but not as sought after as other colors. Blue Fawn: Blue fawn Frenchies have the fawn and dilution genes, creating a soft, blueish-brown coat. Sometimes, their snouts have a lilac or blue color, and their eyes are usually a lighter color, like blue or violet. Bloodline and Purity Bloodline and purity are typically the top factors that affect the price after color. Many people who buy Frenchies from breeders expect to get a purebred Frenchie. Purebred Frenchies will cost more than mixed breeds, but the bloodline is important too. People want dogs with strong bloodlines and little to no genetic disorders or diseases. Breeders charge more when they can prove not only the health of the dog for sale, but the health of their siblings, parents, and grandparents. Genetic tests and health records that show that their lineage is healthy will substantially increase the price. Breeder Reputation The breeder's reputation will increase the price too. As breeders become more reputable and highly rated, they will likely increase their prices because they can. Also, the best breeders often only produce a handful of litters a year, so they need to charge more for each puppy to make their investment back. Some breeders may produce only one or two litters, but the best usually produce no more than three in one year. Reputable breeders offer DNA tests, genetic information, lineage history, and other things that guarantee a healthy and genetically pure Frenchie, so they charge more. Frenchies typically weigh between 16 and 28 pounds and stand about 12 inches tall. Most people seek smaller Frenchies because they are likely to live longer, so a Frenchie expected to be 15 pounds will be more expensive than one expected to be 30 pounds. Something as simple as a high-quality GPS tracking collar ensures you can always find your sweet Frenchie, no matter how far they run. Protect your pup with the Fi GPS tracking color, so no matter what happens you can always find them and bring them home. Personality One of the reasons people love Frenchies is their charming personalities. They are typically very good with other dogs, bark sparingly, are easy to train, and have moderate energy levels that are manageable. Frenchies are playful but still protective, and are usually friendly enough with strangers, making them easy and fun dogs to love and care for. Size and Weight As mentioned, French Bulldogs weigh between 16 and 28 pounds and are around 12 inches tall at the shoulder. Average Lifespan The average lifespan of a healthy French Bulldog is between 11 and 15 years , which is standard for smaller breeds. While some coat colors are associated with health problems, none of these problems are fatal eye, ear, skin, fur problems. Unlike light, athletically-built dogs, Frenchies have low endurance and moderate energy. Approximate Lifetime Care Costs The cost of owning a dog can range widely depending on how you take care of them, like the quality of food you give them, how often you take them to the vet, and if you invest in training. How much is a French Bulldog as a lifetime pet? Also expensive. So, how can you lower these costs? The top way to keep the cost of your Frenchie down is to be open to all coat colors and sizes, as choosing a common coat color can save you thousands. Buying a slightly older Frenchie can also save you money. As far as lifetime costs, you can save money by training at home, buying affordable food, using pet insurance, grooming at home, and having friends or family pet sit instead of boarding can all make owning a Frenchie cheaper. When you do get your beloved pup, make sure you protect them with a Fi GPS Tracking Dog Collar , so if they ever get lost, you can find them easily. These breeders are what give French Bulldogs a bad rep. That certainly holds true when looking for a French Bulldog puppy. A high-quality, reputable breeder will conduct many tests to ensure your puppy is free of any preventable genetic health problems. A good breeder can minimize the risk of health issues Getting your French Bulldog from a reputable breeder can minimize the risk of your Frenchie having health issues such as deafness, hip dysplasia , respiratory problems, and more. Not to mention the heartache involved with dealing with a sick pup. Be wary of shady breeders All I know is that my worst nightmare is falling in love with my new Frenchie puppy only to come to find out he has a serious illness that the breeder failed to disclose to me. Consider Investing in Pet Insurance to save money If you are worried about the possibility of serious health issues , pet insurance is a great investment! French Bulldogs have been quickly rising in popularity — in fact, they just ranked 1 on the American Kennel Club rankings in .Why does everybody want a Frenchie?! I could go on all day. The French Bulldog can do it all Frenchies can lay on the couch all day with you or go out to explore the great outdoors! Frenchies are huge couch potatoes! Your Frenchie will be more than happy to travel where ever with you! However, that price can increase significantly, even into five figures, depending on the location and reputation of the breeder. Reproducing requires artificial insemination. These factors increase the investment for French bulldog breeders. The more investment a breeder makes into producing healthy high-quality dogs in good environments, the higher the price will be. The rarer the color is, such as blue, lilac or chocolate, the more you can expect to pay. Certain coat patterns, such as pied, merle or brindle, will also be more expensive. Female French bulldogs and those with blue eyes are pricier as well. Adopting through the French Bulldog Rescue Network is a more affordable way to acquire a new puppy or adult Frenchie. The French bulldog breed is exceptional with many rare characteristics that make them popular among dog owners. But there are also some challenges and things to watch out for. French Bulldog Size Fully grown French bulldogs average 12 inches tall. Adult females often weigh between 16 and 24 pounds, and males reach 20 to 24 pounds. Most French bulldogs will continue to gain weight until about 14 months old but stop gaining height between nine and 12 months. There are also mini Frenchies, also known as teacup French bulldogs. These are bred to be miniature versions of standard French bulldogs, weighing between five and 14 pounds. They typically shed in spring and fall, so you should increase coat brushing during that time to help reduce hair in your home. This can help you save on grooming costs. French Bulldog Appearance Along with breeds like English Bulldogs and pugs, French bulldogs are a brachycephalic breed, which means they have a shortened snout. Their faces are wrinkly and scrunched, giving them a distinct look, even as puppies. French Bulldog Colors French bulldogs come in many different coat colors. These include neutral colors — such as cream, gray, tan and black — as well as more rare colors like lilac, blue and chocolate. The rarer the color, the more expensive the price of a French bulldog will be. French Bulldog Temperament These pups are affectionate and playful, making them great companions. Training is recommended for French bulldogs since they can march to the beat of their own drum without guidance. Most Frenchies respond well to training, especially when treats are involved. Trainers believe French bulldogs understand commands but are moody and will respond as they feel like it. Frenchies are great family dogs, do well around other pets and prefer companionship. A companion will also allow you to leave them alone for longer periods of time without them getting frustrated. But, of course, another pet will come with its own costs. French Bulldog Activity Level Frenchies are not the best dog if you want a jogging companion. French Bulldog Life Expectancy French bulldogs have an average lifespan of 12 years if well taken care of. If they remain in great health, they can live as long as 15 years. Your veterinarian will periodically examine your Frenchie to ensure he or she is growing properly. Due to their flat faces and short necks, it can be difficult for French bulldogs to use standard feeding bowls. You can instead provide elevated dog food and water bowls to help your pet eat and drink more comfortably. Buying treats, toys or a comfortable dog bed can also help your Frenchie feel welcome in its new home. Check out our French Bulldog Puppies What is included in our prices? This could indicate the dog is coming from a puppy mill. You can read why you should avoid buying dogs from puppy mills here. But the popularity of the dog means there can be a lot of competition for the Frenchies that do need a home. There are a lot of factors that can influence price, and if you are looking for a show dog or a dog for breeding, you should expect to pay a lot more. Certain colors, which are desirable but genetically quite rare, can also push up the price. A brindle or black puppy will usually be at the lower end of the scale, but a breeder might ask a lot more for a platinum or blue fawn puppy. This is Micro, a perfect body specimen for a Frenchie. He also has a blue coat and orange eyes, which are quite rare in dogs. What About Mini Frenchies? Mini Frenchies, also known as Teacup Frenchies, are the same fantastic dog, but they are quite a bit smaller than usual. You can expect them to weigh just 5 to 14 pounds on average. Due to their smaller size, though, their bodies can be fragile, so it is important not to engage in rough play with them. These dogs are even harder to breed see below than standard French bulldogs, so they are also quite a bit more expensive. Why are they so expensive, then? One factor is high demand since they are a very desirable dog breed. But that is not the whole story, since Labs are also one of the most popular dog breeds. Health Problems One of the biggest factors is these dogs have a lot of health problems. Most of their health issues are related to their flat, brachycephalic faces similar to Pugs and American bulldogs , which makes them particularly prone to breathing issues and allergies. This unique facial structure can also affect the formation of their jaw, and the health of their eyes, and can even affect their healing from certain illnesses and injuries. On top of this, they can also be prone to hip dysplasia, kneecap shifts, and heat stress. Fortunately, breeders try to control these breed-specific issues. It is essential that responsible breeders do their best to control these conditions, which means DNA scanning, genetic testing, multiple trips to the vet, and paying extra close attention to the developing puppies. Of course, all of this comes with a cost. Breeding Problems The other big problem is that Frenchies are extremely hard to breed. As well as the operation itself is expensive, the mother and pups need extra care afterward. Plus, breeders need to give their mother dogs significantly longer to recuperate before they can think about breeding them again. On top of that, French bulldogs have small litters—usually just three puppies. It is very unusual for a Frenchie to have five or more puppies in a single litter. So, if you are looking for a French bulldog puppy, you can expect to be on a waiting list for several months before a puppy is available. As well as being expensive to buy, French bulldogs can be pretty costly to care for, again mostly because of their health problems. They will probably need regular trips to the vet, and insuring them can be expensive because they are known to have health issues. But what are some of the main costs that you can expect to incur when bringing home a new puppy? Supplies It can surprise pet parents just how many things you need to care for a new dog. For starters, your new pup will need a bed, toys, bowls, a collar, and a leash. A crate can also be a big expense if you choose to crate train. However, because crate training is not so common among French bulldogs, first-time owners might also want to consider some professional training classes. Food Food is one of the biggest neverending expenses for any dog. Puppy food is also a bit more expensive than adult food because of its high protein content. Ideally, your dog should be eating puppy food until they are about 9 months old. French bulldogs should be eating around 25 to 30 calories per pound of their body weight each day. You can read more about pet insurance for puppies here. They will usually only bark when there is something wrong, so it is worth paying attention when they do vocalize. This is one of the reasons why they make excellent apartment dogs. While French bulldogs are adorable, they are specifically bred for their appearance, and this has led to a lot of genetic issues that affect their health and can leave them in a lot of pain in their later years. Many people object to putting the health of an animal second to appearance and therefore object to buying French bulldogs and supporting the purebred breeding industry. In theory, if there was no demand for these dogs, this kind of exploitative breeding would stop. In practice, this is difficult to imagine, considering how popular the breed is. Can French bulldogs stay home alone? French bulldogs actually tolerate being left alone relatively well. However, all dogs need a lot of love and companionship, and no dog responds well to being left on their own for 10 hours a day five days a week. Dogs become members of the family, and if they are going to thrive, they need to be treated with that kind of attention. Are Frenchies hard to potty train? However, they are little dogs with small bladders. They also tend to gobble down their food, which means they can be prone to smelly gas expulsions. How much exercise does my Frenchie need? French bulldogs do well on just a 15 to minute vigorous walk each day. They are also quite playful, so they burn off energy just playing around as well. Are French bulldogs aggressive? Despite the reputation of bulldogs, Frenchies are not aggressive. They are friendly and get on well with people and other animals. However, all animals are a combination of nature and nurture, so they can learn aggressive habits if they are not properly cared for. Are Frenchies high maintenance? They can also be left alone without expecting too much trouble. On the other hand, their tendency towards breed-specific health issues does mean they need regular visits to the vet. They may need special medications for things like breathing issues, and in later life, they may need things like a special bed. The Verdict French bulldogs are excellent dogs. They are great little companions who will find it easy to live in your apartment with you, but they are also fun-loving and curious. While they are great dogs, they are also quite expensive. This is due to high demand and some pretty serious difficulties when it comes to breeding them. They have small litters, almost always delivered by c-section, and health screenings and vet visits are a big burden for breeders. If you want something special, such as a rare color, you should expect to pay a lot more. You can also expect them to be relatively expensive dogs to own because they do need regular and close contact with a good vet to maintain their health. At a glance, the French bulldog is: Highly intelligent and trainable Small, meaning it does well in fairly small apartments Expensive due to demand and how difficult they are to breed Prone to breed-specific health issues So, are they worth all this expense and trouble? We think they are. French bulldogs can be the ideal pet for first-time owners with limited space and time but a lot of love to give. Helps ease anxiety in their new home. We love using Bully Sticks to help divert these unwanted behaviors. Check out more of our favorites on our New Puppy Checklist. The nose is black, brown or liver colored depending on the pigment. The oval eyes are dark. The muzzle is square, wide and deep with a strong appearance and adjusted flews. It has an undershot or scissors bite and is not faulted for broken teeth. The neck is muscular, slightly arched from the shoulder to the head, tapering and is free from loose skin at the throat. The joints are fairly steep but not overbuilt. The back is strong with a slightly sloping croup and a slight depression behind the withers. The tail is set low, reaching to the hocks, allowed in all forms, but a straight, intact tail without kinks is preferred. Kinked or deformed tails are docked, but the breed is not to be altered in any other way no ear cropping or dewclaw removal. The longhaired coat is thick and often appears as feathering around the ears, back of the legs and tail. All coat colors are allowed, but pure white dogs are excluded from breeding. Temperament The Mammut Bulldog is loyal, bold and fearless. It is confident and intelligent with a strong character. This breed has a moderate to high prey drive. It excels in many sports and makes a good working dog, from agility to protection training and beyond. It is a nice family dog making an excellent companion. This breed is good with children. It has a high pain tolerance. Owners need to take a determined, consistent, loving approach while remaining calm. If the dog senses you are weaker minded than he is , he will become stubborn, as he will believe it is his job to run the home. They make wonderful pets for the assertive owner who displays the right amount of leadership. Proper human to canine communication is essential. Unlike many other types of Bulldogs, the Mammut Bulldog can tolerate a wider range of colder and warmer temperatures. Exercise This breed needs to be taken on a daily walk. While out on the walk the dog must be made to heel beside or behind the person holding the lead, as in a dog's mind the leader leads the way, and that leader needs to be the human. These dogs do best with active families and make great working dogs. Comb and brush with a firm bristle brush, and bathe only when necessary. This breed is an average shedder. Origin The Mammut Bulldog is a recreation of the original longhaired working bulldog of the 's. Like their French counterparts, which tend to be much smaller and have more distinctive ears, English Bulldogs are one of the most well-liked dog breeds in the world. English Bulldogs typically stand 26 inches in height and weigh 55 to 75 pounds. They have broad chests, deep-set black or dark brown eyes, and a stocky physique that gives them an appearance of wisdom and charm. These dogs are gentle giants with thick fur coats and bubbly spirits. While they come in a range of colors and coat styles, a smooth coat of white with dark or light brown spots on their body is the most typical. English Bulldogs have small muzzles, powerful jaws, and ears that curl back against their heads. When joyful or enthusiastic, their lengthy tails wag rhythmically. English Bulldog English Bulldogs are self-assured canines that like to play catch, romp around beaches, and relax on sunny days. Coat Color As stated above, English Bulldogs can have a variety of coat colors. According to their American Kennel Club AKC breed standard, acceptable coat colors for English Bulldogs include white, fawn, red, cream, piebald white with colored patches , or brindle. Health Issues of English Bulldogs English Bulldogs are known to have various health issues associated with their breed, such as respiratory problems, skin issues, joint problems, and eye problems. These health issues are mainly due to the unique physical characteristics of the breed, such as their short snouts and stocky build. As a relatively big dog, they can be at risk for hip dysplasia as they age. If breeders prioritize appearance over health, they may engage in practices that exacerbate these problems. For example, breeding dogs with extremely flat faces can lead to even more severe breathing problems and increase the risk of heat stroke. Overbreeding can also lead to other health problems, such as joint, skin, and eye problems. Other bad breeding techniques may include inbreeding or breeding dogs with known genetic disorders. This can increase the likelihood of passing on these disorders to offspring and result in puppies with serious health issues. How much is a Fluffy English Bulldog? If you choose a puppy with a champion lineage, a fluffier coat, or a unique coat color, the price range may go much higher. Purebred English Bulldogs are more expensive than other related dog breeds owing to the additional care required upon birth. After an English Bulldog approaches the latter stages of pregnancy, it must be watched appropriately. English Bulldog puppies must typically be born through cesarean section since their mothers often cannot birth them usually due to their size. Gender: Female English Bulldogs can cost a little bit more than males due to their ability to reproduce. The prices of female English Bulldogs are generally driven up by demand. Because of their excellent disposition, female Bully puppies are also sought more by prospective owners and Bulldog lovers. Appearance: Since specific coat colors are more challenging to breed than others, this may impact the cost of an English Bulldog. English Bulldogs with more unique hues like tricolor, merle, and blue are often substantially more expensive. Longer hair is not a common trait, and this will also drive up the price. These dogs are renowned for having the greatest physical attributes, dispositions, and health. Successful breeding records go back a long way for quality breeders. Health Examinations: Many breeders check their pups for health issues before selling them. If a puppy is judged to be in top health, the seller will typically charge more. However, seeking out a puppy with a health guarantee is still a wise choice. Training and Socialization: Some English Bulldog breeders begin obedience training early to prevent pups from displaying aggressive or destructive behaviors. Typically, the purchase of the puppy includes the price of training and socialization. With the help of this list, you may already know how much the puppy you desire might cost. English Bulldogs that a rescue organization or shelter has saved have typically already undergone spaying or neutering, received their vaccinations, and have all the necessary registration papers. They also usually go through behavioral rehabilitation and retraining before being placed up for adoption. While pups are likelier to be adopted immediately, dog rescue organizations often shelter more adult Bulldogs. Are Fluffy Bulldogs the same as Mammut Bulldogs? No, fluffy Bulldogs are not the same as Mammut Bulldogs. Mammut Bulldog It represents a return to the earlier, longer-haired working Bulldog of the s. These dogs are bred for strength and agility and are generally muscular. Mammut Bulldogs are a relatively new breed known for their larger size, longer hair, and more laid-back temperament than traditional English Bulldogs. Perhaps we will see the day when fashion gives way to balance and the Golden Middle rises supreme, not as a choice among many, but rather as the only sensible option. In the meantime, on the eve of the centennial celebration of the "king of breeds" on this earth, let us remember the final plea of its founder, Max von Stephanitz's last words to his good friend Muller on his deathbed, "Take this trouble for me: make sure my German Shepherd Dog remains a WORKING dog, for I have struggled all my life long for that aim". He brings back the old-style heavy bone type along with tremendous working abilities. The German Shepherd is one of the most versatile, well-recognized, and popular dog breeds in the world. The modern German Shepherd is descended from a family of various German herding dogs. Breed standards were not developed until the late 19th century when Captain Max von Stephanitz, a German cavalry officer, worked with Arthur Meyer and other breeders to develop the ideal German herding dog. Stephanitz and Meyer wrote the breed standard in and the American Kennel Club recognized the German Shepherd as a member of the Herding Group in .Although they were originally bred as herding dogs, they were also bred for versatility, which made the German Shepherd an all-around working dog that could excel in a variety of applications. German Shepherds are one of the common dog breeds employed in K-9 units in both police and military applications. They also make great service dogs and, of course, are still awesome herding dogs and farm dogs! The German Shepherd is a strong-willed and highly intelligent dog. They have a playful, energetic spirit and tend to get along with children, other dogs, and other pets, which makes them a great family companion. A born protector, the German Shepherd will provide a great sense of security for their family while their loving and lively personality will make them fit right in as a companion. German Shepherds are naturally protective and can be wary of strangers at first. A well-socialized German Shepherd will bark to alert you and tends to warm up to strangers once introduced. German Shepherds are dogs that were bred to herd and work. This, plus their high energy, makes them a better fit for homes with fenced yards where they can run. They can adapt well to larger apartments as long as plenty of time is dedicated to ensuring they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention every day. A bored, ignored, or under-exercised German Shepherd can often become a destructive one. They also can be sensitive to their surroundings and large gatherings can be off-putting. With a longer coat, they tend to prefer cooler climates and are sensitive to heat. The German Shepherd is a generally healthy breed, but there are some potential health concerns and good breeding practices make a big difference. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a German Shepherd include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia , and degenerative myelopathy. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a barrel-chested breed, the German Shepherd is also at risk for bloat. While the German Shepherd is highly intelligent and highly trainable, they are generally not recommended for novice owners. If you are a novice dog owner, enroll in puppy training classes or enlist the help of a professional dog trainer; not just for your dog, but for yourself as well. Training assistance will help you grow in experience and build a strong bond between you and your German Shepherd puppy, which is essential. Also, the GSD has a thirst for training and fulfillment. They get bored easily and especially with repetition, so continued training with your German Shepherd throughout their life will be necessary. German Shepherds have a medium-to-long double coat. They will shed year-round and heavier as seasons change. Brushing a few times a week is usually sufficient; brushing daily is even better and your GSD will likely love you for it. Bathing is occasional on an as-needed basis. Ear checks weekly with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. German Shepherds are high-energy working dogs. Not only do they require a lot of daily activity, but they also are a herding breed that was made to run, guard, and observe, so they need a job to do to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough for a GSD, but they will likely be up for more activity if you are. With their versatility and athleticism, you can try a lot of different activities when puppies finish growing and they are cleared for higher-impact things. A fully-grown German Shepherd usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. German Shepherds generally live for years on average. Corporal Duncan brought him back to the United States and Rin-Tin-Tin became one of the most famous dog actors in history. Featured German Shepherd Article. english bulldog puppies without papers - We respect your privacy. Unsubscribe at anytime. Goldendoodles love attention. They are sociable and enjoy playing and running. As such, Goldendoodles make great pets. If you have a Goldendoodle or planning to bring one home, it is important to know some facts about their tail. In this article, we are going to discuss some Goldendoodle tail facts you should know. What is the Goldendoodle Dog? This cross was first bred in the s and is now available in three different sizes, corresponding to the size of the Poodle parent and the Golden Retriever. These intelligent dogs need daily mental and physical stimulation. If you leave them alone for long periods, they may resort to chewing socks and sticks. Socialization is essential, as Goldendoodles can go through a phase where they have two speeds at once. To help with this, invest in puppy training and brain games. A Goldendoodle is one of the most affectionate and intelligent dogs around. This breed of dog is also highly sociable and gets along well with other pets. The genetic makeup of Goldendoodles means they can have many health conditions common to Poodles and Golden Retrievers. However, these conditions can be prevented if detected early enough. As such, its coat can vary from straight and glossy to wavy. Colors range from white to sandy brown, and the standard Goldendoodle may weigh anywhere from 15 to 45 pounds. The Goldendoodle coat is extremely diverse and can be any color of a poodle. Another trait shared by both of its parents is their love of companionship. Goldendoodles are great with children and are often suited for apartment living if you have a dog that loves to play with other dogs. They need daily interaction and companionship. In general, Goldendoodles enjoy human companionship and are very social and loving. If you plan to adopt a Goldendoodle puppy , make sure to check with your veterinarian before taking them home. A reputable Goldendoodle breeder will let you choose your dog based on family history, which includes any history of medical problems. You can also get a Goldendoodle puppy by adopting one from a shelter or rescue. Do Goldendoodles Have Tails? Normally, Goldendoodles have curly tails. Poodles, on the other hand, usually have their tails docked at birth. However, it may not be a health concern as long as you keep the tail neat and tidy. It is important for the movement of the dog and has a strong association with its temperament. Dogs with tails also have curly ends. A curly tail can indicate an illness. The cause is unknown, but genetics play a role. How Long Are Goldendoodle Tails? Waving its tail high suggests that the dog wants something, while a low wag indicates that the dog is afraid of you. Goldendoodle tails can be anywhere from four to 3. Depending on the amount of Poodle DNA in the dog, the tail can grow as long as 14 inches. While some Goldendoodle owners choose to keep their tails natural, others have their tails docked. Do Goldendoodles Tails Curl? But how can you tell if your Goldendoodle is one of these special breeds? It may be genetic or a sign of a health problem. Tails are also docked for show dogs. Depending on the breed, this process takes anywhere from a quarter to a third of the tail. However, there are some instances when it is curly, which makes it look more like a golden retriever. To avoid this, you can clip the tails or allow them to curl naturally. If you have a curly Goldendoodle, you can give them a haircut. Just remember to be careful not to cut off too much. Whether or not Goldendoodles get their tails docked is a personal choice. Regardless of your reason, consider the following before you make the decision. A dog without a tail can be hard to identify as friendly, playful, or fearful. You should weigh the pros and cons of tail docking with your veterinarian. Tail docking is painful for the dog and should only be done on the advice of a veterinarian. Also, regular brushing and trimming prevent minor tangles from turning into mats or denser clumps. You can ask your veterinarian for advice on the pros and cons of tail docking. For instance, the tail can hit a tree when a dog runs, or a person could trip over their tail. Besides, dogs express their excitement by wagging their tails, and a long tail can cause pain in the tail area. Here are some of the most popular tail styles. This cut is more popular with Goldendoodles with apricot and tan coats, but it can also be achieved on any Goldendoodle, regardless of its color. This style includes a short back, legs, and chest, as well as a lion-style pom tail. Lion cuts require medium maintenance and need a professional groomer to complete. This cut is most popular with dogs that have long coats, especially those that are show-quality. While most Goldendoodles naturally have a fluffy tail, the plume tail style is a bit more elaborate and requires more grooming time. Grooming a Goldendoodle involves brushing the entire tail at least twice a week, and daily brushing can be even more difficult. Flag Tail Grooming your Goldendoodle requires more care than any other breed of dog. In addition to trimming the hair to a manageable length, it is important to keep the tail clean and trimmed regularly. A flag tail is another common style when it comes to grooming Goldendoodle. To achieve the perfect Goldendoodle flag tail style, you can use sharp-tipped scissors. To cut the hair, start at the base and work your way up. The brush is designed to remove loose hair from the tail while maintaining a sleek and clean appearance. Goldendoodles with short tails are most likely docked. If your Goldendoodle has long and fluffy hair, clip the ends to make them look neater. Trimming the ends keeps the tail under control and prevents tangles. If your Goldendoodle has wavy hair, clipping the ends will give it a definition and keep the ear flaps neat. How to Groom a Goldendoodle Tail? The tails of Goldendoodles are long, fluffy, and prone to mats and tangles. To avoid this, you should brush them every day and use a slicker brush to loosen the hair so that you can comb it easily. Make sure to use a safety guard when trimming the tail, as the blade of a pair of scissors should never touch the skin. Then, gently brush the tail with water to remove the mats. The brushing process is more suitable for curly-haired Goldendoodles. To do this, you can use hand scissors or an electric dog clipper with a long comb attachment. Use the comb to comb the hair, then move it upward. There are three main styles of Goldendoodle tails. You can choose to trim it short, medium, or long, depending on how your dog likes it cut. The first style involves cutting off all but the first two inches of tail hair. This gives your dog a clean, neat look. The second style is the taper haircut, which means the hair gradually falls from the base of the tail towards the tip. Just like humans, dogs use tail wags to communicate. They can also indicate nervousness or fear. For example, tail wagging when calm or casually walking around might indicate that your Goldendoodle is happy or content. When you see a dog using its tail to communicate, the expressions on its face are often the most telling. A happy dog will hold its tail at a level above the ground, and an alert dog will stand up with his or her head high. You can also identify a dog by how it stands and holds its tail at a level near the body. You can also take steps to prevent aggressive behavior by using calming methods. A horizontal tail position, for example, indicates a relaxed dog who is listening to its owner. If the tail is raised, a dog may be worried or anxious. A stiff tail, on the other hand, may indicate a nervous dog. The latter, however, indicates caution and a cautious approach. By Jennifer Nelson There is a bit of wonder that draws people to Goldendoodles. They are a cross between two other well-known breeds, but the excitement of a mixture is: what will the result be? Many who go out and get a Goldendoodle pup love to think about who their dog will be and maybe which of its parents it will take after more. Some Goldendoodles even wind up with curly tails, which adds to the intrigue. Why is that exactly? Where does the curly tail come from? Find out all you need to know and more in the article below! Curly tails in dogs are likely a direct result of domestication — an example of domestication syndrome. Dogs bred over the millennia to be tame underwent physical changes linked to their changing temperament. One of these changes gave us dogs with a curly tail. Individual Goldendoodles get their curly tail genes from at least one of their parents, most likely on the Poodle side. Several progressively smaller vertebrae extend out past their rump, narrowing the tail to a tip. The bones are surrounded by muscles, tendons, and cartilage, which allow dogs a wide range of movement and control. Dog tails become curled because either the vertebrae are abnormally wedge-shaped as compared to that of a straight-tailed dog , or because they are fused. This is a congenital condition called hemivertebrae, and it would cause health problems if it occurred further up the spine. However, when isolated to the tail, as is the case with curly-tailed breeds, the condition is usually harmless. The degree and permanence of the curl depends on the exact nature of the vertebrae anomaly. Tail curliness may also be associated with weaker cartilage in the tail, allowing it to flop around and curl more easily. Cold-weather-ready dogs like Huskies often have sickle-shaped tails. Shiba Inus and Samoyeds are examples of those with tighter ringed tails. Bulldogs and pugs are examples of breeds that have the tightest curl of all, known as corkscrew tails. Examples of dogs with tails like these include Akitas, Malamutes, Huskies, and similar breeds. These dogs retain some ability to either extend the tail straighter, such as when stretching or curl it tighter on their back, as they would when displaying excitement or hostility. It may not be a coincidence that this type of tail is common to dogs bred to live in cold climates as they use the tail to wrap around their bodies and cover their noses while sleeping, protecting their faces from frostbite. Ringed tails are a more defined version of sickle-shaped tails. Samoyeds, Chow Chows, and Shiba Inus are breeds of dogs with this type of tail. Corkscrew Tails Corkscrew tails are characteristic of dogs like pugs and bulldogs. The vertebrae are fused in such a way that the tail stays curled tight like a corkscrew permanently. These dogs are not able to straighten or change the curl of their tail at all. Although technically caused by a genetic defect, curly tails are now of course selected for in certain breeds. At least one famous study suggests that curly tails may be a direct result of domestication. Since dogs descended from wolves, the potential for curly tails has always existed in their genetic makeup, even though wolves only have slight curves in their tails at best. While we do not have details on the exact nature of the transition of wolves to dogs, a study involving foxes has shed light on how the domestication process might have gone and how dogs likely received their curly tails. The Silver Fox Domestication Experiment In , Russian geneticists began one of the most famous experiments in biology to date. The first researcher who began the experiment, Dmitri Belyaev, hypothesized that certain traits shared by domesticated animals such as floppy ears and curly tails in dogs were genetically linked to tameness and that by selecting for tameness and only tameness while breeding successively from a population of wild animals, these other physical traits would appear simultaneously as a result. The prevalence of these traits in domesticated animals is known as domestication syndrome. To test his hypothesis, Belyaev began breeding wild silver foxes on an experimental farm in Siberia. In just six generations, they had produced remarkably tame foxes who wagged their tails and licked human hands. In less than 10 years, the newly bred foxes began to show signs of domestication syndrome, developing floppy ears, shorter tails, curly tails, mottled coats, and more juvenile face and body features short, flat snouts and legs. So, what was causing the changes? Scientists are still unsure of the exact mechanisms, but there are several clues. Besides changes in appearance and temperament, the tamer silver foxes experienced other significant biological shifts. Researchers also discovered that, as embryos, the selection for tameness resulted in the migration of fewer neural crest cells. The embryonic neural crest cells were related to the alterations in the physical traits that they witnessed. For example, it weakened cartilage, which is directly responsible for both curly tails and floppy ears. Quite simply, your Goldendoodle is a dog , which means it is one of the most domesticated animals on earth, which means that its genetics have been shaped for generations by humans, making it an example of an animal with domestication syndrome. How cool is that? Golden retrievers normally have straight tails or tails with only a slight curve. Poodles normally have their tails docked, and thus they appear straight much of the time. Natural poodle tails may be straight or somewhat curly, but tail curliness in either dog is considered a fault according to their breed standards. Since Goldendoodles have one parent that is a Golden Retriever and one that is a Poodle, this may cause some extra curiosity regarding their curly tail. Rarely do either of these parent breeds sport a curly tail, so how could a Goldendoodle have one? The answer most likely lies in the fact that poodle tails are frequently docked at birth. The practice is controversial, and while some argue it is healthier and more beautiful for the dog, in general, it is simply tradition and necessary at least for show dogs. This means that the true nature of the poodle tail is often hidden from us! Left undocked, poodle tails may appear straight, but some do in fact curl. If your Goldendoodle has a very curly tail, they likely inherited it primarily from their poodle parent since Golden Retriever tails never exhibit much of a curl. This trait may have persisted in some Poodles since the tails are docked anyway and thus there was no reason to breed against it. Rather, many owners prefer to have a long or even curly natural tail on a Goldendoodle. Attitudes on tail docking are constantly evolving as well, and the practice may be more frowned upon than it once was. Conclusion Dogs can be our closest companions. We feel we know everything about them at times, but, then again, they are sometimes still full of mystery! Now you know that curly tails in dogs likely originated merely as an unintended consequence of the domestication process, and it can be considered a symptom of domestication syndrome. You know that the physical structure of curled tails differs because of unusual vertebrae and looser cartilage. Finally, you know that poodles naturally have the curliest tails between the two parent breeds, so your curly-tailed Goldendoodle likely takes after them the most! Historically, tail docking dogs was thought to prevent rabies, increase their speed, strengthen their backs, and prevent injuries when fighting, ratting, and baiting. Today, Goldendoodle tail docking is performed mainly for cosmetic reasons and is a controversial issue among veterinarians, animal breeders, animal welfare groups, and pet owners. While proponents of this procedure cite reduced tail injuries and potential hygiene advantages to Goldendoodle tail cropping, many see it as unnecessary and cruel. The tail of a Goldendoodle can be a beautiful plume of curly or smooth hair that rides high over their backs and curls slightly. Other Goldendoodles have tails that stand straight up. The organization also encourages the elimination of tail docking from breed standards. Have a question for a vet? Click here to live chat instantly with a verified veterinarian! What Is Tail Docking? Tail docking, also known as tail cropping, is a procedure that involves the amputation of all or part of the tail and should only be performed by a veterinary surgeon. If removal of the tail is medically advantageous for the dog. Removal of any abnormal growths or tumors on the tail. To help alleviate skin infection under the tail brought about by excessive skin folds. Prevent myiasis infection of fly larvae in body tissues. Prevent fecal soiling fecal materials tend to accumulate around the tail area in dogs with thick, fluffy coats. Also, acute and chronic pain in puppies is more severe due to incomplete myelination of their nerve sheet which makes them more sensitive to pain than adults. Goldendoodle tail docking is an elective surgery. How Goldendoodle Tail Cropping Is Performed Goldendoodle tail cropping should be done under sterile conditions by a board-certified veterinarian. Before surgery, local anesthesia with or without sedation may be used to numb the area. For adult Goldendoodles, general anesthesia is recommended. Even if your Goldendoodle is still a puppy, amputation of the tail should be followed with the closing of the wound with absorbable stitches or tissue glue with the skin closed over the stump for a more cosmetic appearance. Unfortunately, there are people who perform the procedure by cutting off a portion of the tail and leaving the wound open. Goldendoodle tail docking can also be accomplished with electrosurgery or laser surgery. Most patients can go home on the same day. However, dogs with comorbidities may need to spend a night in the veterinary hospital so they can be closely monitored. Some breeders choose to tail dock their Goldendoodle puppies a few days after birth. When the tissues of the tail are deprived of blood and oxygen, they will become black and dry and eventually drop off within a few days. The puppy will suffer intense pain from the time the band or ring is placed until the tail sloughs off. Inflammation and infection have been known to occur in some puppies, adding to the suffering of the animal. If this happens, the puppy needs appropriate veterinary intervention as soon as possible. Scalpel or Surgical Scissors Another procedure commonly practiced by breeders is using a scalpel or surgical scissors to cut off the tail after the part where it has been clamped. Puppies that undergo any of these procedures suffer from intense pain and discomfort for the next few days as the wound heals. Anesthetics and post-docking pain relievers are not routinely used. Even when a puppy is only a few days old, it can already feel the pain and discomfort caused by tail docking. The pain is felt not only during the procedure but also while the stump is healing. The amputation of the tail in puppies may lead to improper development of the muscles that support the rectum and anus. This can lead to fecal incontinence, rectal dilatation or sacculation. If the wound remains open, the subsequent inflammation can lead to chronic pain as a result of hyperexcitation of the sensory part of the spinal cord known as the dorsal horn, or the sensation perceived from damage directly to the nervous system and has no threshold. Other possible complications of Goldendoodle tail cropping include perineal hernia, submissive urinary incontinence, abnormal regeneration of nerves post-amputation neuromas , or caudal pain due to scar tissue at the amputation site. Goldendoodle tail docking results in the deprivation of a major body appendage which can pave the way for changes in behavior. Goldendoodles use their tail to communicate with other dogs and even with people. Without a tail, a dog might be significantly handicapped in expressing friendliness, playfulness, fear, aggression, etc. Considering that a docked tail is not a standard of the breed, the decision for Goldendoodle tail docking ultimately falls on the pet owner. As always, important health decisions for your dog such as this one are best discussed with your veterinarian. Merliza Cabriles, D. More from Popular Doodle. Here are three pictures of Junie's tail with different cuts. Her tail's appearance is altered significantly by the clips. It's fairly likely that you doodle does the same, as many goldendoodles have tails that curl. But not all goldendoodle tails are the same. While some goldendoodles have tails that curl neatly over their backs, others have tails that extend behind in golden retriever fashion. A few goldendoodles have tails that stand straight up. The way your doodle carries her tail likely influences the way you'll like her tail clipped. Your doodle's hair type will also impact the style you prefer for her tail. A tail covered in curly hair will not have the same plumed look as that of a wavy coated doodle, even if clipped in the same fashion. Occasionally a doodle may have a docked tail, in which case you may even prefer to go with a pom pom style like a traditional poodle kennel clip. Shaved Tail Left is a shaved goldendoodle tail with a very slight amount of feathering on the tip on a curly haired doodle. Right is full feathering on a doodle with a wavy coat. Round feet are more commonly seen on doodles but clean feet track less dirt into the house. Clean feet can give your doodle more of a poodle appearance. By: Author Jennifer Seegmiller A tail can tell us so much about our dog, they are a very beautiful and important trait on our lively Goldendoodles. But what is it about the tail that makes it so special? How do we know if our Goldendoodle has a normal tail, or if something may be off or different? Should a Goldendoodles tail be docked? What is the best way to groom and style your doodles tail. How do you know if they have limber tail swimmers tail and what to do about it! I was curious about this too so I took some time to Paws and Learn so I could find all the answers to every question you could have about your Goldendoodles tail. Do Goldendoodles have tails, what should they look like? Goldendoodles naturally have long fluffy tails, because they are mixed between a Poodle and a Golden retriever the look of Goldendoodles tails can vary depending on which breed it favors. Thank you Kelly M for use of your photo! A good majority of Goldendoodles have tails that curl nicely over their backs, others have tails that extend behind similar to a golden retriever. A few Goldendoodles have tails that stand straight up. If your Goldendoodle has a very short stub tail then it probably has been docked, although a small percentage of Goldendoodles are born with a smallish stub tail. Some owners that I talked to who had multiple doodles from different breeders had doodles with long fluffy and furry tails as well as a doodle with very little hair on its tail at all. It just depends on which genes are more dominant. Pro Tip: If you are interested in the best grooming tools for your dog you can find them by clicking here now! Goldendoodle Tails are on average are 12 to 14 inches long however it is not uncommon for Goldendoodles to have tails ranging from 3. Do Goldendoodles Tails Curl? A curly tail may be considered a flaw in genetics as according to the AKC both Poodles and Golden Retrievers have a strict standard for how a tail should look. Depending on the size of the poodle mini, toy, or standard the tail length will be different. For Golden Retrievers, their tail should be the correct length extending to the hock but never below. When the dog is relaxed, the tail hangs down naturally, it does not curl. Do Goldendoodles get their tails docked? As a general rule Goldendoodles do not get their tails docked. Historically tail docking was done to prevent injury for working dogs. Goldendoodles are bred as companion dogs and so there is no reason for them to have their tails docked. These two beautiful pups had their tails docked as puppies by a breeder that follows the AKC industry standard for tail docking poodles and had decided to do that for their Goldendoodle litter as well. Thank you Tammie B. Picture of Goldendoodles with docked tails There is a lot of controversy around docking tails but as far as Goldendoodles are concerned there is really no reason to have any Goldendoodle puppies get their tails docked as Goldendoodles are not traditionally recognized by AKC, and will have no conforming appearance standards to uphold. Goldendoodle Tail Styles and Grooming There are a lot of fun and stylish cuts to choose from for your Goldendoodles tail grooming. Depending on how your Goldendoodles tail sits and how much grooming you want to do on a weekly basis can help you determine which style or cut you would like. You may also want to think about the kinds of activities you do with your dog to help you decide which cut to do. How To Achieve the Look: Two—thirds of the tail, starting at the base, is trimmed closely, with a long plume of hair left at the end. Good For: A more traditional Poodle type look. Owners I talked to also said that they prefer this style for easy grooming as there is less hair at the end of the tail to get tangled and less of a chance for the hair to get stepped on or stuck in something. Flag Tail Thank you Cynthia M for use of your photo! How To Achieve the Look: This is a fun look that is named as such because it looks like the outline of a flag. The base of the tail and around the anus is cut short for the first inches then the rest of the tail is trimmed into a rectangle shape. Good For: Owners who like a nice neat look but still enjoy the beautiful natural look as well. This style needs to be brushed out at least once a week to keep mats from forming. Plume Tail How To Achieve the Look: This look is mostly left natural except that it is trimmed up a little around the anus and trimmed just enough to straighten up the edges, but not in a set rectangle shape like the flag style. Good For: Owners that like a natural look but prefer to have it trimmed up just a bit to look more neat and tidy. This look needs to be brushed times a week. How To Achieve the Look: Do nothing as far as trimming or cutting goes. This look is meant to be all-natural showcasing the original beauty of your gorgeous doodle. You will need to spend some extra time brushing and keeping this tail mat and tangle-free. Good For: Owners who love the all-natural look and long billowy tail of their Goldendoodles. How To Achieve the Look: Neat and trimmed short in the same style as the rest of the body the hair can be anywhere from inches long and is the same length through the entire tail. It will still require brushing about once a week but should be quick and easy. How to Groom A Goldendoodle Tail Depending on the cut you choose for your doodle will determine how you cut it, but for a lot of owners part of the charm of having this beautiful breed is the gorgeous plume flowing from their rear end. This does require daily or at the least bi-weekly brushing. This scissor kit is a great place to start and can help you get the high-quality look you are going for. Here is a great Video Overview on trimming a Goldendoodles tail. Goldendoodle Tail Wagging and Communication Goldendoodles wag their tails for many different reasons. They could be conveying other emotions like nervousness or fear as well. The key to understanding their tail wags is to put it together with all the other contextual clues they are giving you. What are their ears doing, their eyes, how is their posture? Noticing these things as well will help you know why your Goldendoodle is wagging its tail. Here are some things your Goldendoodle could be communicating to you with its tail. Calm and chill — Tail in the natural resting position. Sleeping or resting or casually walking around. Greeting or I love you — Usually, a big carefree wag, accompanied by eye contact, coming to you and jumping on you or trying to get your attention. Curious or unsure — Backwards and gentle wagging. Maybe sniffing around a little, intense and curious staring. Looking to you for reassurance. Body tense, eyes down, ears laid back. Could also be trying to communicate a submissive position. Aggression — Tail high in the air and rigid. Poised, rigid, and making eye contact. Could be barking or growling as well. Happy and Excited — Fast care free wagging. Wiggling body, happy facial expressions. Body not tense, possibly going in circles around the object causing excitement such as a treat or toy. Wagging their tail towards the right side of their body can indicate more positive emotions such as relaxed, and happy. Wagging their tails on the left side of their body is a sign of more negative emotions such as nervousness or fear. For most Goldendoodles wagging their tails to communicate is a natural and normal thing for them to do. It could also be that they have an extra curly or short tail that makes it more difficult for them to wag, but it could also indicate a medical problem and they should be seen by your vet to rule out any serious issues. If your Goldendoodle has recently stopped wagging its tail then there are some other things your should consider. If you have just moved, or they are new to your home this could just mean they are nervous and need some time to get acclimated to their new environment. Some dogs are bigger tail-waggers than others. Limber tail Also known as swimmers tail, frozen tail, dead tail, broken wag, or cold tail is a condition that causes your dog to hold his tail limp and down instead of the usual upright position. Its official name is Acute Caudal Myopathy. It is most likely to happen after your dog has had very active or strenuous play, exercise, or excessive tail wagging. Sometimes a lot of swimming can cause it, being in cold wet weather, if they are confined to their crate too long, or if your doodles tail is wagging and getting whacked on various surfaces. This could cause your dog pain and swelling in their tail, making it difficult to sit. Usually, this condition will go away on its own after a few days of rest. If it is causing your doodle a lot of pain then consulting your vet is a good idea. Coldwater play, or being confined in a crate too long are often things that could trigger this condition. Goldendoodle Licking Chasing or Biting Tail If your dog is chasing, licking , or biting his tail it could be a simple game, or there could be something more going on. Chasing and biting could be an indication of fleas or mites, licking could indicate allergies. Keep the hair near their rear clean and trimmed. Keep wipes handy to clean it out right away. Check for infections or parasites such as worms. Also, be sure to watch out for the pesky robot vacs. They like to eat tails. Thank you Paige C for use of your photo! Some dog breeds have a genetic predisposition to curly tails, which results in their tails being naturally curled. For instance, breeds like Pugs, Bulldogs, and Chow Chows have naturally curly tails. Chow Chows, for example, are known for their puffy, curly tails that curl over their backs. When it comes to Goldendoodle tails, their genetics will determine the outcome. Docking is a surgical procedure that involves amputating part of the tail, and it can be painful and risky for the dog. As your pup expresses their emotions with their tail, why deprive them of this wonderful way of communicating with us? A common sign of an infection is that your pup keeps licking and biting at its tail. The affected area could also experience hair loss due to all that irritation and excessive licking. And if your Dood keeps licking and biting the tail to soothe the discomfort, it can make the matters even worse. These oftentimes include a round of antibiotics or topical creams. Additionally, cleaning the affected area with warm water and gently drying the skin can reduce discomfort and promote healing. Infestations If your pup is suffering from a parasite infestation, their tail is by no means unharmed from it. Again, a common symptom of a parasite infestation, such as fleas or ticks, is constant itchiness and the accompanied licking and biting to soothe the discomfort. If your dog has fleas or ticks on its tail, it is important to take appropriate measures right away. We also recommend that you regularly use a flea and tick shampoo to prevent parasite infestations, such as the ones we recommend in this guide. If a sore or wound is present, applying ointment as recommended by your vet may help speed up recovery. Also, avoiding activities that could cause further damage like vigorous playtime or swimming will give the wound time to heal properly. However, if it seems like a persistent issue, you might have to watch out for other symptoms and worrying behaviors. Cold Tail Cold tail, also known as limber tail, is a common issue in working dogs, but it can pretty much happen to any dog that has over exerted its tail. This basically means that your pooch has sprained its tail due to excessive wagging or overused it any other way that causes a sprain. Although it might seem funny at first, a cold tail could cause serious pain and discomfort for your pup. They may whine to express their pain or lick and chew on it to soothe the discomfort. Indeed, like any other dog, Goldendoodles use their tails to communicate with the world around them. A wagging tail is a sign of happiness, while a tucked in tail indicates fear or stress. Additionally, certain positions such as high-held tails can be an indication of alertness or excitement. The intensity and speed of the wags also have specific meanings — slow wags can mean uncertainty while faster wags typically indicate their friendliness and good mood. No matter what Goldendoodle tail style your pup sports, there are certain steps you should take to keep it healthy and looking fab. First and foremost, you should brush the tail lightly with a slicker or pin brush every day to prevent knots and tangles — the main culprit leading to matted fur. Keep an eye out for any signs of discomfort as you do this, since Goldendoodle tails can be prone to sensitivity in certain areas. If you let it get too long, dirt and debris can easily accumulate, which can lead to knots and tangles, matted hair, skin irritations, and ultimately infections. Finally, regular baths are also essential for Goldendoodle tails to help keep them clean and free of dirt or debris. Use warm water and a mild dog shampoo , followed by a blow dryer set on the low-heat setting. Related Content.

I've heard, 'That's the cutest dog I've ever seen in my life' several times, and true to LA, 'You should put that dog in the movies! I feel like I can only mess this up by not following what I'm learning from the books you've recommended. I'm taking him all over the place and introducing him to new experiences all the time and he is just amazing. Thank you so much! We lost our Goldendoodle last year and were not really looking for a new pup yet. A friend mentioned 4E Kennels and we thought we would "just look" at the new puppies. Well, once we met Jeanette and her family and saw the amazing conditions her puppies were being raised in, there were 27 at the time! Jeanette treats each puppy as her own, grooming them to be amazing dogs and companions. We were amazed at the time she took with each puppy and how amazingly clean her home was! The puppies were definately treated like family, raised in a loving, safe environment. Even with 27 puppies, Jeanette could tell you each ones quirks and personalities. She worked tirelessly to make sure each puppy was socialized and that they were placed in the home best suited to their individiual temperaments. She provided weekly updates and nightly puppy massages that not only made the puppies feel secure, but helped us attach even more to our new babies until we could pick them up. We should all be so lucky to work with a Jenna! Hi Jeanette, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for all of your help during our adoption process for Buddy. I did extensive research on breeders and found you to be exceptional, far beyond any other breeder I have come across. Kyle and I had both lost our dogs his golden retriever and my teacup poodle and after some time, decided to get a goldendoodle together because it would be a hypoallergenic mixture of our two breeds. Adopting Buddy has been such an amazing experience. I'm not sure if anyone else would have put up with all of my texting and emailing. After all, it had been over 15 years since Kyle and I dealt with puppies, and I was super excited. When adopting a puppy, it was a great feeling to be so involved in the process that I felt as if I had carried Buddy myself. From the moment Holly tied, to the movement of puppies in her tummy, to the birth of Buddy's siblings, and finally, the birth of Buddy lucky 13; the baby of the litter. It didn't stop there either. You kept me updated on feedings, play time, funny moments, and everything else a future mom should know about her baby. THIS is what makes you a great breeder. You truly care about your puppies, and you also care about the future parents who are so patiently waiting. You were there to help choose the perfect puppy that matches our lifestyle while being perfectly honest about the personalities about each one. To be honest, any one of your pups would do great. You give them the best start they can get from your Essential 7 and Biosensor exercises, not to mention plenty of socialization. Buddy is sooo smart. At 10 weeks, he knew how to sit, paw, down, up, speak, spin, and kiss. Only 10 weeks!!! Thank you for everything you have done for us, and for Buddy. You will definitely always have a place in Buddy's heart even through videos, he jumps up when he hears pup-pup-pup. THIS is a true adoption.I felt a part of it every step of the way. And most importantly, thank you for Buddy. He is a wonderful little boy, and he is already growing up to be such a smart, social, we'll - balanced happy dog. We have searched high and low, as I have wanted a Goldendoodle for over a decade now. So their referral held a lot of weight for us. We watched for a few months, and then placed our deposit in the spring of .Jeanette was very patient with us as we decided between an F1 and an F1b. We could have easily chosen any single puppy from this dozen. We had the 8th pick, and still had so many perfect options for our family. These puppies are so well cared for, socialized from birth, exposed to a multitude of firsts to make them incredibly well rounded, and their temperaments are unmatched. Our 12 year old son adores Cooper and Newton , and easily can walk Cooper on leash. Cooper is a true gentle giant! Thank you Jeanette and family for continuing to breed such top quality Goldendoodles, and for taking all your new doodle families into your hearts! We have been blessed by what you do. Much love, Colorado Love Claire with all my heart and soul. People stop and ask me questions about her all the time! If I had a nickel for every time I heard "Wow! Claire and I would both be rich! I always point out to people interested in a puppy that they should chose 4E Kennels because they don't just breed dogs for looks and profit like most other breeders, especially the ones now popping up all over California. So while making cute puppies is apart of the job, making sure they are intelligent, social, and have amazing dispositions is Jeanette's' top priority. Jeanette is dedicated to improving the lives of other people with her very special pups. She is resolute in making sure these puppies have an enriched environment with lots of play, exposure and love so they can go on to become the smartest puppies; ready to help and love their future humans! I remember receiving videos from Jeanette directly prior to picking up Claire, and she was either introducing the puppies to swimming in a kiddie pool, or having their first interaction with an umbrella.Just always above and beyond my expectations of what a breeder is. I don't even think it's fair to cal Jeanette a "breeder". She is more of a doggie angel. Now that I have Claire I know that her start at 4E Kennels helped shape her into the confident, cuddly city pup she is today! My husband and I welcomed a new doodle from 4E Kennels into our family in January .We did a lot of research to find the right breeder and as soon as we met Jeanette we knew immediately she was the one. She has such love for her work and all of her dogs. She is incredibly knowledgeable, thoughtful and caring. And, her program to help with the growth and development of the puppies is spectacular. This not only helps each puppy for the rest of their lives but it also ensures when you take home your new puppy that you will be off to an amazing start. Our doodle is an absolute joy, he is so smart and has the most wonderful personality. We will always be grateful to Jeanette for helping bring him into our lives. If you are looking for a doodle to welcome into your family, look no further. The love, care, and attention she provides to all of her pups were apparent from the first conversation we had with her. It was evident from the very beginning of the adoption process that Jeanette's heart and soul are deeply invested in all of her puppies. We did extensive research on breeders and found 4E Kennels to be far beyond any other breeder we come across. We were especially impressed when we took our puppy to her first vet appointment and the veterinarian told us that in the entire span of her career, she had never been as impressed with any breeder's paperwork as much as she was with 4E Kennels — the vet told us that due to our pup's great state of health and exceptional temperament, she could tell right away that our Pickles had been loved and well cared for. We are forever thankful to Jeanette, who works tirelessly to make sure each of her puppies is socialized and very loved. Thank you Jeanette! With the love, care, and energy I've seen you put into your puppies, I knew I had to. I've always believed people are brought into our lives at the right time. We had been interested in getting a puppy, and after meeting you and twenty seven of your puppies, we knew that day that we had found our breeder! We immediately trusted you and put a deposit down on a future litter. Little did I know at the time, but I also signed onto endless support and a plethora of knowledge as you helped guide me through what I didn't know about raising a puppy. I was also gaining a 4E Kennels 4Ever Goldendoole family, which gives me the opportunity to keep in touch with Lucy's littermates, share puppy raising strategies, and watch other Goldendoodles grow up. Before bringing Lucy home, we loved being updated on Holly's pregnancy, weekly puppy photos and videos, and the opportunity to visit and play with the puppies as needed. I am fascinated by the tender nurturing you provide to each and every one of your puppies, from the biosensor exercises, to the Essential 7, to exposing them to all sorts of people, animals, and situations. All of these early experiences help to mold your puppies into well-rounded, well-adjusted, and stable dogs. Along with all of this critical early care you provide, we also appreciate your placement skills in helping us to find the right puppy for our family. You have this incredible gift of knowing which puppy will best suite each family. Even though Lucy picked me, I know you would have picked her for us too. With her spunk, energy, silliness, sweetness, and intelligence, we couldn't love her more! She's tolerant, loves everyone she meets, and makes us laugh on a daily basis. Best of all, she loves her older Doodle brother and provides him with the companionship he needs when we are not at home. Lucy is now nine months old, and I've held off on writing a testimony. There are no words to express the adoration I have for her or the appreciation I feel for you and 4E Kennels. Thank you for your love, support, guidance, and friendship. You are truly amazing at what you do! Love, Heather and Matthew Oney I wanted to write and thank you for all of your help and support throughout the adoption process. We are so lucky to have found such an incredible breeder. Adopting Bailey has been a memorable and amazing experience for our family. It was very obvious to us that you put a tremendous amount of time and work into caring for your puppies. You made sure that our family was a good match for our puppy and we can't thank you enough for your input. I will continue to recommend you to anyone I know who is considering getting a puppy. Sincerely, The Armstrongs If you're looking for the perfect golden doodle to bring into your home, then look no further than 4E Kennels! My Baileigh is now nine months old and a very sweet little pup. Her temperament is so calm and her intelligence continues to grow each day. She is picking up commands faster than any dog I have ever owned. I know that it because of her early days with Jeanette that I have such a smart, calm, mature nine month old doodle. When I called Jeanette, I let her know that I was looking for a doodle with a calm, cuddly, and loyal personality. She eagerly explained all the personalities of the remaining puppies and suggested one that she thought would be my perfect match! Once I met Baileigh, I knew there was no way I could have picked a better golden doodle for myself. Upon meeting Baileigh, Jeanette, and the entire 4E family, Jeanette let me know that when Baileigh was born, she was born blue and not breathing. If it had not been for Jeanette's quick action of mouth to mouth and her watchful eye over my pup for the next twelve hours I don't think that I would have my sweet cuddle bug today. Jeanette's love and devotion to not only Baileigh, but all the puppies born at 4E Kennels is a true testament to the quality of care these dogs receive before leaving to their forever homes. I was definitely skeptical about getting a dog from a breeder and was giving up hope. I had evaluated several other breeders, but was uncomfortable with what I was seeing. It seemed like other breeders were definitely in it for the money. I immediately could tell by their website that 4e kennels was so different! It appeared that Jeanette authentically cared not only for her dogs and puppies, but also for her clients as well. The first email I sent to Jeanette was simply that I was looking for a support dog. She quickly responded and was so open and supportive, I felt blessed to have met her. She helped me find the perfect puppy for my personality and has Claire been such a life changer. I feel fully supported and would gladly recommend 4e kennels to anyone looking for a healthy, loyal and loving dog that also comes with an awesome 4e kennels family. She goes above and beyond what many breeders do, she assists you in finding the right puppy for your lifestyle based on family members, needs and desires in a dog. Stella literally walked right into my lap the first time we met her. Stella had less than 10 accidents before she was fully potty trained — how many people can say that? We are blessed to have an amazing dog in our life, and everyday thankful for all the work, love and devotion Jeanette puts in to 4E Kennels. We got Honey at 8 weeks and Jeanette was spot on with her personality making our Doodle a perfect match for our home. Honey has been healthy and growing like a wild fire! We are so happy with our Doodle that we are on the reservation list for a second. Thanks 4E Kennels for adopting Honey into our family! We wanted the best of both worlds with little shedding and lots of love and boy have we gotten it! She is wonderful with my two toddler boys and little Pomeranian. Plays with her mouth open, but never closes it on anyone. We decided to get our golden doodle at a very hectic time in our lives. We have been expecting our third child, moving and traveling all in her first 9 months, but she has taken it all in stride. I love how good she is for me when I groom her too. Sometimes she even falls asleep!!! I can definitely attest to the fact that 4eKennels has been far superior to other breeders we've seen or used in the past. It was so special watching the litter grow up and having pictures of our girl from 1 week old on! Jeanette is always there as well as other local doodle owners to help me with any questions I have ever had! When I saw my first goldendoodle, I saw a picture of one off of google. So cute that it probably was a stuffed animal dog. Immediately I started researching goldendoodle breeders. Day after day I would find a breeder, look at their pictures, and was always unhappy with what I saw and the lack of information I was given on the webpage or phone. Then I found Jeanette at 4eKennels. I just love how much information Jeanette puts on her website. She described every single detail from how to purchase one of these darling puppies, to the type of coat you are looking for, to describing the mother and father of each litter, and so much more. I was so impressed by her ability to know exactly what I wanted. I say this, because, I told her the type of dog I was looking for, and she added me to the litter waiting list I needed to make my dream dog come true. She added me to the list for Lainey and Romeos litter. I remember the night Lainey had her 10 puppies! She instantly emailed the group on the waiting list, letting us know Lainey and the babies were healthy and happy. From that day on, I would receive at least one email a week updating me on the litter. My ability to go and visit these puppies while they were with Jeanette and Lainey was, well, expensive! So, Jeanette sent me, and the rest of the waiting list, a weekly video showing the puppies playing and taking different types of test, like obstacle courses. She sent me information on each dog and their personalities, energy levels, confidence, pack drive, and so much more. Since I was not able to ever see the puppies in person, Jeanette made me have the ability to see the pups which helped the choosing process so much easier. My finance and I now have Messi, which is the most well behaved, loving, wavy hair, cutest puppy alive! Thanks to Jeanette I got exactly what I wanted. I say it loud and proud, 4eKennels! Best breeder in the world! Just as our first doodle, he has been a great puppy. We know that Jeanette gives them the best start with both health and early training, this makes transitioning to your home very smooth. Jeanette acts as a matchmaker matching you with a dog that will fit you and your family. Jax has fit in perfectly and it has only been a few days, no surprise though, ALL 4E dogs are amazing. She is so smart, loving, funny, friendly, easy going, athletic, playful, dog. She has become my shadow and is always by my side. She always makes me smile, and her intelligence amazes me everyday. We are working on our therapy dog test, which I absolutely believe will be so fitting for her. She loves everyone, and usually ends up making friends wherever we go. We are also on our 10th week of Agility training, she is doing wonderfully. These dogs become who they are because of the hands-on hardwork and dedication that Jeanette, Jenna and their team do each and everyday. Thank you all, we couldn't be more happy with our two doods! Last December we welcomed the newest member of our family, Noodle. My girlfriend Christine had wanted a goldendoodle for a few years. I was just learning about the breed last year, but quickly realized how great of a breed goldendoodles are. We could tell that this was a special pet that had great roots and temperament. The owners told us he was from 4eKennels in Pahrump, Nevada. We were pleasantly surprised to see that the 4e website had plenty of amazing content. There was also a Facebook page which provided live updates on the various litters, which was a cool and unique bonus. Her communication and service was impeccable; she could be a superstar in any industry she chose! Jeanette provided accurate and specific information for every question we had on the breed and litter. If we had a specific special request to see how much each dog weighed, Jeanette was happy and quick to provide. I want to say a little bit about the 4e facility itself. The doodle ranch just blew us away in size and quality. There are three facilities: nursery, adult housing for poodle males, and adult housing for golden retriever females. The impressive ranch also has plenty of romping area so that each dog lives the dream on a big fun yard with plenty of stimulation. The nursery had separate sections for each group of litters. This made our visit to the nursery fun and easy, even with lots of future doodle parents coming to visit all at once. Also, the selection process was quick and easy, as Jeanette plans the meetings extremely well in terms of time and organization. There are so many good things to say about the company itself and services they provide. Their donations to service dog organizations are wonderful, kind, and admirable. We were happy to know that some of Noodle's litter mates are now serving as diabetic alert dogs, and other 4e pups are now helping Veterans. Christine has grown up with dogs her entire life, and Noodle is far beyond the most behaved, smart, and darn cute pup she has ever had. The conditioning and temperament that Jeanette provided the puppies the first 8 weeks is so invaluable. We were astonished to see how well behaved and healthy our puppy was from the get go. I never thought I could love a dog so much. Now that he is part of our family, I don't even see him as a dog but more as our little baby. We look forward to waking up with him by our side, smiling and waiting for us to play with him. Or when we come home from work and he's been napping all day, just seeing his cute little face looking up at us is a joy that can't be put into words. We are thankful to have gotten to work with this company and be a part of the 4e Family! We raise high-quality Mini Labradoodles as well as a few other breeds.
