Hammy came into rescue when it was posted on social media that her owner was going to euthanize her for being timid and over weight. Miss Hammy arrived in rescue January , since arriving she's been getting lots of exercise and on a special diet to help get her weight under control. She is still nervous around new people and takes time to warm up but she is the perfect quite housemate. Urgent Dogs Storm - Northumberland This beautiful boy is Storm he's very nervous and quite highly strung. He lives with cats and children. He has been working with a behaviourist since he was 6 months old to improve his social skills and confidence. He also attends a doggy day-care couple of time a week. At first, he was very nervous with the other dogs and would bark and shriek with his hackles upend bared teeth, he has never bitten or snapped at the dogs, just all noise. However his current family recently adopted a rescue dog who didn't get on with Storm and attacked him several times, he has never retaliated. Although the rescue dog has now been re-homed this has knocked Storms already fragile confidence and he has reverted back to his noisy anxious ways. He walks well in a head collar and is good off the lead, he loves toys and will do anything for a ball. He is quick to learn and enjoys his training sessions. Storm isn't good with new people or visitors but once he has met them then he settles very quickly. He ideally needs a home with no other dogs so he can have time to relax and regain his confidence. Due to so many dogs and puppies being purchased during lockdown without proper consideration about the long term welfare of these dogs, rescues are now being inundated with unwanted dogs that have missed out on proper socialisation and training in the early months of their lives. The result is that the dogs coming in to rescue require much more time to rehabilitate which means the dogs coming in are staying with us longer than normal and our kennels are full to bursting. If you looking to rehome your dog, we will endeavour to assess your dog as soon as possible and put on our website, HOWEVER, we cannot take any more dogs into our care at present unless there are exceptional circumstances. If you are looking to adopt, we will endeavour to carry out your home check as soon as possible, HOWEVER, we are having to be extremely strict on our criteria at present due to the type of dogs currently in our care. Many of these dogs are not good with other dogs due to lack of socialisation and whilst we can work with them with other large dogs, we do not have the facilities to be able to test them with small dogs.
