Lola is an 8 month old all white German Shepherd that would do best in a home that has experience with the breed and is prepared for puppy energy, such as a home with older kids as she can be a bit rambunctious at playtime and might knock down smaller children. She is housetrained and knows a few basic commands and tricks but would do best in a home that will continue her training to become the best version of herself. An obedience class would do her wonders as she is a very quick learner! Lola would also do best in a home that has someone there most of the day. She will not be adopted to a family that plans to crate her all day, as she is still trying to grow hair back on parts of her legs from being kenneled for long periods of time. Lolas foster mom works from home and Lola is only crated when everyone in the house will be gone, however she will most likely grow be able to be trusted to roam free alone in a home eventually. At night she is not crated but prefers to sleep with or near her people for instance the hallway outside bedrooms. Some nights she will make the rounds and sleep with everyone, to make sure no one in the family misses out on her cuddles! Lola is a very loving and delightful puppy that would make any family a very good companion that gives her returned love and attention. She told us that she is already very excited to meet you! I am a petite girl who enjoys freedom in the house but dont let my good looks fool you - I am a very smart girl and love to steal food when youre not looking! I love squeak balls and love a good hard chew. Im not sure how I feel about other dogs - I see them at the groomers but I usually start to squeal. Im kind of picky when it comes to other dogs and Ive never met a cat before. Ive never met a stranger I didnt like and Ive even been around kids, old and young! She has a genetic condition called MegaEsophagus. Her throat does not push food down to her stomach. To help her eat, Mia must sit in a "Bailey Chair" to eat softened food. She must then sit for 30 minutes while gravity works its magic. Mia knows her chair and her routine. Mia must also drink from an elevated water dish. If she eats in any different way, she will likely regurgitate and may aspirate. Due to her condition, she underwent a gastroplexy with her spay. This means you will never have to worry about bloat with Mia. With attention to detail, Mia can live a long happy life. She will reward you with a kind heart and dedication. Mia is whip smart. Mia has basic obedience down and would shine in good citizen and advanced obedience classes. Mia's chair and supplies will come with her. He has been with his foster since June .He is heartworm negative and up to date with his vetting, including neuter. Moe gets along great with dogs. Although Moe has not been tested with children. We have no reason to believe that he would be a problem with them. We are not sure about cats. She was an owner surrender because she was not very nice to the feral kitties in the neighborhood. We will not place her in a home with cats. Nova is great with dogs and children. She is a lovely girl in the home, content to lay at your feet as you work or relax. Adult, Female, Large Pepper Pepper cam into our rescue with her sister and mom, life has not be kind to her. Pepper and her family were part of a neglect case in Oklahoma. Pepper is a very sweet girl, but she will need lots of love to get her confidence back up! Pepper does not mind cats and has been around kids. Pepper is approximately 2 years old and is potty trained. Because she is so shy and timid, she is still working on leash training. We would like Goldy and Pepper to stay together! Do they sound like they could be a part of your family?! A friends daughter fostered her and found her to be sweet. However, it didnt work with her other pets, so she took her back. Princess had a hard time at the shelter with a few incidents. I agreed to take her, and my friends daughter pulled her on the day she was to be euthanized. I picked her up in early April. At the time, she had heartworm. Treatment was completed. Shes probably due for a check on it now. The Dallas shelter had her as 13, but everyone here thinks shes younger. Maybe .When she was surrendered, she was in heat. They spayed her at the shelter. Since Ive had her, shes been sweet to others other than the growls at repairmen. She likes to lick people. Now the special issues she has. Princess has separation anxiety. Shes gone from Prozac when I picked her up to trazadone. The trazadone helps a lot. Acepromazine was too strong, but the boarding place I use sometimes gives her half doses if needed. I can now leave her for several hours without anything happening to the house. She became smart to my tricks to get her into the crate at night, so I leave her out now. She really doesnt get along with other animals. I was told that when I got her, so Ive left my four cats in bedrooms since she arrived. Thats a huge reason why Id like to find her a forever home. Im not skilled with dogs though, so maybe someone could help her overcome that problem. I understand that she was surrendered with another dog. I also go out of town a lot, so I end up boarding her. She is kept away from direct contact with other dogs. Its been mentioned that she has made a lot of progress since she started there. Shes less reactive when other dogs go by her pen. I think the best scenario for her would be with someone who is home a lot and has no other pets. She definitely loves her humans. As her fosters we have taught her a few basics but with just a few short weeks with her she will need lots of attention in her new home. Shes a master counter surfer. She does great with the 2 young kids in her foster home ages 4yrs and 18months and also with the other 2 German Shepherds in the home male and female. We do not know how she does with cats or small dogs. I believe Rachel would benefit from having another dog in the house who loves to play as much as she does! Poodles are highly intelligent, non-shedding, and generally healthy. Great Pyrenees also known as the Pyrenean Mountain Dog are huge, majestic dogs. Known for their unconditional love for family, guardian instincts against intruders, and elegant thick white coats, Pyrenees are well-known as livestock protectors as well as wonderful family dogs. Great Pyrenees typically rank as being excellent family dogs; very friendly with their family and great with kids. There are five main reasons many people consider a Pyredoodle a better fit for their family than a Purebred Pyrenees: Hypoallergenic: The Poodles' non-shedding coat is hypo-allergenic. Because the poodle coat is the dominant gene, many poodle crosses often called doodles get the non-shedding coat. This is particularly the case with thick coated dogs like the Great Pyrenees. Families who want an inside dog appreciate a low-to-non shedding coat that the Pyredoodle offers. Trainable: Great Pyrenees are not recommended for novice dog owners. Because of their stubborn streak, Pyrenees can be difficult to train. By contrast Poodles are extremely easy to train. They are the most frequently used dog in circus acts or on shows like America's Got Talent, because they are extremely intelligent, eager to please, and easy to train. Pyredoodles are much easier to house train and teach other basic training commands than a pure Great Pyrenees. With any mixed breed it's impossible to perfectly predict the outcome of the hybrid, but so far Pyredoodles have been met with enthusiastic response. Pyredoodle owners love their devoted, affectionate nature, low-to-non shedding coats, more quiet temperaments, and outstanding intuition. Pyredoodles are perhaps the best of all doodles for being like a "nanny"--entirely devoted to children and small animals. Pyredoodles love to protect small things. The young French prince instantly fell in love with this elegant giant dog that was so loving towards him and protective. The eight year old prince brought the Pyrenees back to live with him at the Louvre. Several aristocratic French families fell in love with the prince's Great Pyrenees and bought their own. A few decades later the Great Pyrenees had transformed from a country guard dog to the official French dog of royalty. Today the breed has been popularized by it's many appearances in movies and TV shows. Because of their devoted, affectionate nature, Great Pyrenees are used as therapy and service dogs. Because of their guardian instincts to care for their own, while protecting against enemies, many Pyrenees are still used as livestock guardians throughout the world today. They are gorgeous, majestic, head-turners. As large as the Newfiedoodle and Saint Berdoodle, Pyredoodles look more majestic, regal and statuesque than most other large dog breeds, which often are described as cuddly, or teddy bear like. Men and women alike tend to love Pyredoodles. We've found that some doodles i. The Pyredoodle has strong appeal to both men and women. Many men love the thought of a huge majestic guard dog, and women love the Pyredoodles' nanny nature, love for family, and gorgeous white coat. Like any dog, it's important to train the Pyredoodle at an early age, so that your majestic guardian is well trained from its earliest months. Our dogs and goats are loved on daily with extra special attention given to our pregnant mamas. Since we only have one litter of puppies per year, we can spend time with each puppy and give them the best start at life. While mama Bishop is pregnant, we supplement her feed with free range chicken eggs and pet her extra every day. Studies have shown that relaxed and pampered mama dogs give birth to calmer, happier puppies. After birth, the puppies stay with mama to be fed, comforted, and cleaned. We handle the puppies daily to get them used to human interactions right from the start. On day three, we start early neurological stimulation ENS. ENS consists of four short movements for each puppy that stimulate the nervous system daily. ENS is completed through day 16 and more information about it can be found here. We watch our puppies closely and when they first startle at a noise, we begin habituation exercises. They normally start hearing around two weeks and we want them to hear a new noise daily after that. Noises we ensure they hear include, but are not limited to: vacuum, hairdryer, dropped pans, kids screaming, and cows mooing. As the puppies grow, we introduce them to new experiences and people. Dogs do not generalize so they need to meet people of all ages, shapes, sizes, colors, and clothing choices. Our puppies are socialized with kids daily since we have kids so they will be very ready for human siblings! To begin the weaning process, we give the puppies goat milk from our grass fed, holistically raised goats. Their first foods include raw goat meat cuts before they are transitioned to puppy food. Their puppy food is soaked in homemade bone broth to soften it while they are still little. Some Pyredoodles do have separation anxiety, so we make sure each puppy gets individual time away from their siblings daily. While this does not guarantee the dog will not develop separation anxiety, it should help reduce the chances. Our puppies are also introduced to a crate. They are allowed to explore the crate at their leisure and learn that it is a safe place to relax or nap. Once the pups show an interest in treats, clicker training begins. All pups learn basic clicker training and are taught to sit, rather than jump up, when they want attention. Although the puppies mainly live in our detached garage turned puppy palace, we give them inside time daily. We know our puppies will eventually be family dogs, so they need to feel comfortable inside and out. They learn at a young age to poop outside their sleeping and indoor area. It takes a bit longer with pee, but they will have the basic idea of where to go potty when they go home. Our Pyredoodle puppies are only available once per year, and we accept deposits once pregnancy is confirmed. And it is a great bonding experience for everyone involved. How big do Pyredoodles get? Based on the size of Mama Bishop and Dad Jazz, our puppies are estimated to grow to pounds. When can my puppy come home? Puppies are generally weaned and ready to go to their forever homes between weeks of age. We will plan a time that works for all of us once you have selected a puppy. How can I reserve a puppy? Can I visit my puppy before bringing them home? We encourage visitors as it is good for socializing the puppies. We do ask that all visitors are feeling healthy and have not been around sick dogs, though. What type of dog food are puppies started on? Puppies eat Taste of the Wild grain-free puppy recipe food. It can be found on Amazon here. We soak the puppy food in homemade bone broth to soften it while they are still little. Your puppy will be sent home with enough food for a few days worth of meals. How many puppies in a litter? Litter sizes vary, but are generally between pups. How many boys and girls per litter? This also varies. The generation in dogs reflects if the puppies are purebred or hybrid. P1 is the parent generation or purebred such as a Great Pyrenees, Standard Poodle, etc. When two P1 generations are bred, the resulting puppies are considered F1. Normally, the F1 dog is bred back to a Poodle, but technically, any back cross is an F1b cross. The F1 is half Poodle and half Great Pyrenees. When a dog from that type of cross is then bred to a Poodle, the amount of Poodle DNA inherited from parents is increased, and the non-shedding trait enhanced. They tend to be affectionate with them and love nothing more than being around their favorite humans. Mini Pyredoodles tend to be calm, fearless dogs with playful and pleasing personalities. As long as they are properly socialized and trained, they tend to get along well with children and other dogs. They can have a high prey drive, so they may need some extra socialization and training if there are small pets in the household. A Mini Pyredoodle can also inherit the guardian, protective, and territorial instinct of their Great Pyrenees parent. This makes them naturally wary and suspicious of strangers and makes strong socialization and good training even more important. A well-socialized Mini Pyredoodle will warm up to strangers once introduced instead of viewing them as a threat. Mini Pyredoodles are highly adaptable dogs. They do well in homes with fenced-in yards where they can run and adapt well to apartment living as long as they get enough daily exercise and attention. They do well in most climates, but are sensitive to heat and the cold. These dogs bond closely with their families and thrive on attention, so they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. Because of their territorial instinct and high prey drive, they should only be let off-leash in secure areas. Good breeding practices make a big difference in avoiding these health concerns. Reputable breeders will test and screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. Mini Pyredoodles are intelligent and pick up on things easily. But, they are also easily bored, can be stubborn, and can have an independent nature. Because of this, these dogs are recommended for more experienced owners. If first-time dog owners are willing to enroll in puppy training classes or enlist the help of a professional trainer, they can be a good fit for this breed. They could end up with a coat like their Pyr parent, Poodle parent, or something in between. If they have the Pyr coat, it will be fluffy and dense, shed a little year-round, and heavier as seasons change. Weekly brushing with daily brushing during seasonal shedding plus the occasional bath keeps the Great Pyrenees coat healthy and looking great. If a Mini Pyredoodle has a Poodle coat, it will not shed. But, they will require daily brushing to remove tangles and mats in addition to professional grooming every weeks. Nail trims once or twice a month help keep nails from growing too long. Weekly ear checks with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. Brushing teeth or using an enzyme toothpaste daily can help prevent painful, damaging dental diseases later in life. Mini Pyredoodles may have bursts of high energy, but they tend to sit in a more moderate range. Daily walks plus some playtime or another activity are usually enough to keep them happy and healthy. If you are up for more activity, they likely will be as well. So, for example — depending on how many dog beds we have in the house — when I decide to go into the lounge, I take their beds with me, then call them through and tell them to go into their beds. How do we stop a dog leaving its area and jumping up on the sofa for attention? I usually teach my clients a routine to try once their dogs have come into the lounge. Then, they call the dog to their bed and if there are several, call each one individually before rewarding the dog with a piece of kibble for their good behaviour. Then, every so often, I walk past the bed, lean down and reward the dog with a piece of kibble. The point of having the reward in that particular spot is so that the dog can clearly see it, which gives him or her a reason to start in a positive place; but, ultimately, learning to ignore any distractions because they soon realise that, by staying in their beds, they will earn that reward. After your dog sees you sprawled out on your sofa, he rushes over and jumps up to share in the fun. So now you must determine what to do. Should you let your pup on the couch? You need to take into consideration that your pup may be dirty and jump on the couch. He may leave dog hairs on your new sofa. Of course, you could always put a throw cover on the couch that you can remove and wash. The important thing is to make a decision. There will be less space on the sofa with a pup up No matter how much we love our dog, we may be uncomfortably squished up against the sofa back with him accompanying us. But if you have a lab or golden, there may not be enough room for you to both comfortably share the couch. The couch will have more wear and tear if a dog shares it A dog bounding up on our sofa unfortunately leads to our furniture not lasting as long. Our canine companions can be comfortable anywhere. So their desire to be on the couch often stems from more than the need to feel relaxed. Being on the couch with us is also a bonding moment. The couch has our scent on it, which also draws our dogs to jump on it to relax. Provide a comfy alternative place to relax Having a really nice padded dog bed as an alternative should help your dog choose to lie there. Generally, you want this to be more than just a thin crate pad. Many dogs love luxurious, cushioned ones. My golden love beds with a bolster around the outside where he can rest his head as if it were a pillow. Have these beds in the places you hang out so that your dog has a desirable alternative to your couch. Teach him that good things happen on the bed. You can give him a favorite chew or a stuffed Extreme Kong. I stuff my Kongs with a pate dog food and freeze them overnight so it takes some time for the dog to get the filling out. But train him to get up on the recliner. You may want to confine him to another room like the kitchen. Still have a comfortable dog bed there for him to enjoy. Of course, a young lab requires a lot of exercise. So take him for a long walk, play fetch, or have him play with a compatible doggie playmate before you leave. You can teach basic commands and can also teach him to get off the couch if he gets on. Doing so can teach him that he needs to jump up to get treats. If he loves toys, you can use a toy to lure him off. Still verbally praise and pet him if he finds that rewarding. You can also reward when he goes to his own bed. But be aware that some dogs will get creative and move them or lie down between them. Sometimes putting foil on the sofa cushions will deter a dog from jumping on the couch. With either the blocking technique or the foil, first do them with you in the room or where you can view the pup on camera so that you know whether it works. This is more likely with younger dogs. Another deterrent that may work is called an X-mat. He should jump right off. Block access to windows near the couch If your dog gets up on the sofa just to see out the window next to it, blocking access to the view outside may help deter him from getting on it. You can use a window shade, curtains, a self-stick film for the window that blocks outside view, or blinds to block the view. Also, many dogs will just look under or push aside such window coverings. Such methods can not only ruin the bond with your dog, they can also cause some behavioral problems in your dog. The thing to avoid below a year is repetitive jumping of the kind that would happen in dog sports like Flyball or Agility. Dogs are usually not allowed to start training in those sports till they reach one year. The keys are: - never allow your dog to pull you a single step - stop and wait for the lead to slacken or change direction - mark and reward as often as it takes for walking in a nice, non-pulling, position While you are re-training nice, loose lead walking, you don't want to give him opportunities to pull you along. If that means walking up and down your street while you change direction times then that's how it may be for a while. It will just take time and patience and persistence from you. I let my dog sniff but he is only allowed to get to what he can reach without making the lead go tight. Otherwise I do not budge. It does take a lot of vigilance, but it works in the end. The strength required to jump up onto furniture and the impact experienced when landing can not only exacerbate any of the conditions listed above, but it can aggravate a variety of other musculoskeletal problems a dog may be facing too. Giving your dog an impact-free way of accessing their favorite hangout spots can allow them to enjoy a safer and more comfortable home environment. Senior Dogs As many dogs age and enter their senior years, they tend to slow down and become less mobile. You may notice that they begin experiencing a bit of difficulty getting up or laying down, navigating stairs, or jumping. Canine arthritis is common in older dogs as well. Many people have an opinion on whether or not jumping is bad for dogs' joints. Can it stress the joints? Should all breeds jump and play actively? Let's take a look in more detail. All this noise on how to help keep our dogs feeling healthy and happy can make it difficult to tell fact from fiction, making things all a little bit confusing. What happens when a dog jumps up? When your pooch prepares to take off, they shift their weight back into the large muscles of the back legs and onto the back-leg joints. The activated back end pushes your dog up and forward like a coiled spring which has been released. This action requires a full range of motion in the back leg joints including the stifle and the hip and tarsal hock , and of course, activation in all the supporting muscles. When they land, their front legs are mobilised, flexing and extending to brake and steady the dog. Understand why dogs jump up What happens when a dog jumps down? When getting down off a couch or bed, your dog uses their body weight for downward momentum. Their front legs and shoulders abruptly take much more weight and strain than if walking or running on flat ground, especially if your pooch is carrying an extra pound or two. How different surfaces affect your dog? This is a BIG factor. Jumping from hard to soft — or soft to slippery — adds another layer of complexity. Your dog has to counter slippery surfaces with their own muscles, or may risk toppling over on impact. Just imagine jumping from a high wall onto a soft mattress and trying to stay on your feet when you land. Clutter, slippery floors, and rugs can also cause problems. Twisting or straining on landing to avoid hazards will mean more work for the muscles and joints. If your dog is a toy or miniature, they may have to jump twice or three times their height to join you for a snuggle. Some breeds and mixes are more prone to accidents and incidents, and obesity plays a part too. Unfortunately, if your dog is carrying a bit too much weight, their joints take the stress, which can make a risky action even more problematic. Jumping and dog joints: fact or fiction? Most healthy adult dogs manage carpeted stairs well. Stairs or steps do require greater range of motion in the front and back leg joints compared to walking on flat ground. Stairs can be a challenge for the smallest breeds and dogs who are prone to joint stiffness. Ramps, or being carried or supported with a sling is a good idea in these cases — always talk to your vet for advice. A high 4x4, a slippery boot blanket and a small or older dog is a very different scenario to a low estate car with a rubber mat in the boot. The best solution is to use a portable pet ramp. They came from around the world to pay tribute to the man who first bred them here in the mids. Some were almost white; some had a more reddish hue and others fell somewhere in between. The dogs and their owners strolled down the very same lane that British Prime Minister Winston Churchill once reputedly learned to drive on. Their destination, Guisachan House pronounced Goose-a-kin , was brightly lit in a changing array of colored lights against the darkening Scottish sky. It was a mostly quiet affair. A quiet nighttime stroll of dogs and owners winded up the lane to the ruins of Guisachan House, where owners toasted Lord Tweedmouth, the man who first bred golden retrievers there in .And because Scotland is the birthplace of the breed, hundreds of dogs — a new record of dogs, to be exact — and dog owners from around the world made the pilgrimage to the tiny conservation village of Tomich, next to the Guisachan Estate, about a mile drive north from Glasgow. Some came from as far away as Australia. Others traveled the length of the United Kingdom to attend. And there were also Spaniards, Danes, Austrians, Japanese, Italians, Canadians and a contingent of about 50 Americans on hand, among others. It was here he famously bred the first golden retriever. Tweedmouth notes the mating took place in between a yellow Wavy-Coated Retriever named Nous and a somewhat rare, and now extinct, Tweed Water-Spaniel named Belle. A loving forever home with a secure fence and another dog in the home She wants to be your "All-American Girl! Carrie Underwood is so sweet and adorable. She is a bundle of tender kisses and has energy for days. She has been a great sister to the newest foster puppies that have come and gone, teaching them the art of playing with toys. Carrie's favorite thing to do is play chase with her K9 buddies. She runs fast and does figure 8's around the resident dogs, who don't even try to keep up with her. Her second favorite activity is napping with the resident Labs. She adores the older resident dogs and has learned great napping skills from them. She continues to work on her leash skills. Carrie has been quietly working on coming out of her shell and has undergone a transformation since arriving at her foster. She loves to curl up in the lap of her FM for naps and bedtime snuggles. She still has her moments of shyness around Foster Dad, but will now come voluntarily to the couch to sit beside him for attention. She's definitely gained lots of confidence.
