This is due to the amount of extra effort these dogs need to go through to breathe. The compromised breathing of these dogs is exacerbated further by hot weather and exercise. Therefore, if you own a Brachycephalic breed they must never be taken outside on a hot day. Exercise should always be kept light to moderate. Their difficulty breathing could eventually lead to a severe condition known as Laryngeal Collapse. Unfortunately, difficulty breathing is only one issue brought about by being a Brachycephalic breed. Issues with Eyes, Skin and Achondroplasia Due to the shortened skull, the eyes of Brachycephalic breeds bulge, and are poorly protected. They are much more prone to irritation, infection, and injury. Back problems can also be more common in these breeds, especially those with a screwed tail. These issues can potentially be debilitating and may require complex and expensive surgery to correct. Skin problems are also rampant within Brachycephalic breeds with a lot of loose skin. It can be easy for irritation and infection to occur with the skin folds of these breeds, like the French Bulldog. Many Brachycephalic dogs are unable to give birth naturally, due to the large heads of their puppies. Caesareans are usually necessary. Poor health is almost inevitable As both parent breeds are Brachycephalic, it is certain that puppies of this cross will be too. They will require a lot of care and could potentially be suffering from debilitating issues their entire lives. Despite the good intentions of this cross, it could potentially introduce a second structural health issue into Frenchton puppies. French Bulldogs have short, stout front legs. This is another deformity known as Achondroplasia that has been bred into them over time. This is another issue that may lead to joint problems such as Patellar Luxation or Hip Dysplasia. Or in more severe cases, back problems such as Intervertebral Disc Disease. Are Designer Dogs Healthier? Designer dogs have come under a lot of fire in recent years. They are very accommodating and flexible with their visits, in the first place, which is very important to me as my schedule can sometimes change at the last minute. When they visit, they always leave a brief note about what occurred during the visit for example, letting me know if the dog ate dinner while they were there , as well as a personal note about their interaction with the pets. More importantly, though, they love my pets as much as I do. I know that my pets are well-taken care of during their visits, and I never worry about my animals. And my animals seem to love the visits, as I'm told they always run to greet the caregiver and behave as if she is their family. It doesn't get much better than that! As the kids got older, they figured out who the walkers were and would either happily chat at them and tell them everything that was happening Emmett or shyly hide and watch them from around the corner before loudly yelling goodbye Caroline. While everyone on your team is wonderful and we have appreciated all of them,I would be remiss if I didn't take a moment to say something about Hunter. I cried when I said goodbye to Hunter because she had started to feel like a regular in our house and an extended part of our family. It was so clear that she loved and understood our dogs and also so clear that they loved her and looked forward to seeing her. She is a special person and I am so grateful that our dogs got to spend so much time being doted on by her. This is a very professional company, great customer service and best of all they take great care of our dogs! The staff is incredibly responsive to our needs, including "11th hour" schedule changes. Our dog always has a great time running with the DLR team - hot or cold; rain or snow. We appreciate all the DLR crew does for us and our dog, and are happy to endorse their services. Pet owners who need to have their animal "exercised" should definitely turn to DLR for assistance. Amy is quick to respond to any questions we have, and I feel that she is a good and responsible business owner. The walkers themselves do a great job, and I like how the system is set up -- instead of having only one person come out five days a week, there are two walkers who split days. This means that in the event a backup is needed you don't have to worry about a stranger coming to take out your dog. Again, it's a good peace of mind component of this operation. Amy was so kind and immediately hit it off with our dog Presley. Amy took the time to learn about Presley's "special needs," even though we didn't anticipate needing the walker to have to do anything like feed him or give him medications. It gives us peace of mind that DLR is aware of the issues, in the event we would need them to provide those services. Presley gets a 30 minute walk every day with the same walker, and we always look forward reading to the nice note the walker leaves at the end of each walk. Our dog has been injured and needs to be checked on periodically. We couldn't ask for anything more in a dog walking service, to be honest. Naperville has tried this before without success, but a group of determined citizens persevere because of where dogs and cats sold at pet stores are sourced, commercial breeders and puppy mills. I was on an airplane returning from the VMX veterinary conference as many testified January 21 at the Naperville Municipal Center, otherwise I would have testified as I was asked to do so. Sayres flew into town to explain that there are a shortage of dogs, and he insisted that dogs purchased at pet stores are from regulated and licensed sources and encouraged the Naperville Council members NOT to ban sales of dogs and cats at pet stores. Sayres Contradicts Himself What happened? That is one easy way that you can make a difference in the fight against puppy mills. However, in testimony in Naperville, Sayres sang a very different song as he suggested that the demand for dogs exceeds the supply and supported sales at pet stores, even implying as a better choice than shelters. So, those sought after pure bred dogs can be found at pet stores. Sayres maintained that dogs from pet stores are from regulated sources. To begin with, you know dogs sold at pet stores are not from responsible breeders as no responsible breeder ever sells to a pet store. The truth is that there are second and third parties brokers involved all the time. So, really who knows where the trail f where puppies are from began? Investigative reporters and others who are determined to do so have tracked down the real sources, but it takes some doing. Also, a word about the inspections themselves. There are many many examples of outright horrific puppy mills who have somehow passed inspections. Department of Agriculture are understaffed. Sayres is correct that there is a growing black market online as puppy mills create websites which look good but are awful places to purchase a dog. However, this is an all together different issue, which I would be thrilled if Sayres and others would focus on, which is to limit Internet sales and also to educate the public about purchasing online. Others testified how they may lose jobs or one person spoke about how a pet store job is paying for her future school. PetSmart, Petco and Pet Supplies Plus seem to do just fine, and they never sell though they do adopt dogs or cats. I am glad a pet store is providing work for young people, but how expert are they at offering information about pets? A responsible breeder offers health information and a guaranteed contract, and will ask many questions of potential purchasers.

Then he throws up at random in different parts of the house—which he has never done before. This is great, just great. But I can somewhat feel for him. Yesterday I found him sitting by his empty food dish after lunch. The kids had forgotten to feed him that morning, the dog had already had breakfast and lunch. When Rosie comes near him he freaks out. This whole experience reminds me of having a new baby, and I swore I would NEVER be one of those people to compare my pets to our kids! I get it now! Keep your eyes and ears open and absorb it all like a sponge! Birth To 1 Week Old Guess what? This was the first litter we ever whelped!? We got a lot of advise, but we were largely on our own. Large Puppy Dish — great for feeding the puppies when they moved to solid food. Whelping Mats — we ordered 2 of these mats and washed them several times a day. Whelping Box — We have a homemade whelping box built by my father-in-law, but if we continue raising litters I plan on purchasing an EZWhelp Whelping Box. Our homemade box lasted three litters. We ended up purchasing the Magnabox which was hellu expensive but if you plan on raising multiple litters we highly recommend it. We recently put together a whelping checklist with all the supplies we gathered together to help out with our second litter of Golden Retriever puppies. It was my understanding that when the cord was chewed down to the base of the belly it was sometimes difficult to get it to stop bleeding. I took the hemostat and pinched the umbilical cord about 2 inches from the base of the pups belly then cut the cord rather than let Raven chew it off. I kept the hemostat on the cord for about 2 minutes to let it clout. The umbilical cord dries up quickly and then within a day or 2 it falls off. Raven was a good mama and took care of her poops. Puppy eyes and ears are closed at this stage and puppies army crawl around the whelping box looking for a teat to suckle. We did everything we could to make sure our pups stayed warm by adding a watt heat lamp to the whelping box and portable heating unit in the puppy room. As I mentioned Raven stayed in the whelping box most of week 1 and of course… the puppy piles! One thing I learned is if I had a puppy on my lap then do not let Raven lick those areas or be prepared for a little accident on your lap. While caring for Raven and her litter Raven was really blowing out her coat that first week, but as time went on it slowed down. I heard from other friends this is common and that Raven blew out her coat much less than other mama dogs. We got Probiotics for Raven before her first litter, but forgot to order them for her second litter. After an upset stomach for the first week or so we realized our mistake, got Probiotics, and no more upset tummy. Week 2 — Pups eyes are opening starting to waddle. Week 3 — First bark!
