The cream Golden Retriever also has some subtle yet notable differences in overall appearance. These contribute to the ongoing distinction between American and English Cream Golden Retriever dogs. For example, the cream Golden Retriever tends to be slimmer and sleeker in appearance. They have a level back and tail, ears that are more forward-set, with a wide and deep muzzle and more overall variability in height and weight between male and female dogs. Sadly, some less up-front breeders are taking advantage of their popularity. But the cream color has always been present in the Golden Retriever breed standard. Red Retrievers The red Golden Retriever has a particularly striking and memorable coat! In fact, this unusual coat color means that sometimes the red Golden Retriever is mistaken for an Irish Setter! There are also some other appearance differences with this coat color. The coat overall tends to be shorter and straighter with less feathering on the limbs and tail. While the red Golden Retriever is not currently eligible for exhibition or competition in the show ring. In all other ways this dog is still very much a purebred Golden Retriever like all the rest. If your interest in acquiring a Golden Retriever is primarily to have a working dog to hunt or herd with. Or you want to compete in canine athletics with your dog, a red Golden Retriever might be the perfect choice. However, this is a very popular coat color among pet owners. And in every way the white Golden Retriever is a purebred dog just like the rest! The white Golden Retriever may appear very close to pure white during puppyhood. With maturity, you may see subtle tinges of gold or cream appearing in the coat. The white Goldie is just as healthy as any other. That famously thick, wavy, double-layer coat still needs the same type of basic care… and quite a bit of it! But you can absolutely count on needing to give your dog a good brushing every few days — and more frequently during the twice-annual seasonal sheds! Well, due to Google, we actually have one in Turkey, so, pretty far away! As a Golden Retriever breeder, we adopt out a few great pups that we have been able to find some great families for. We have been fortunate to have some great golden adults. They have heritage links to some great well know kennels such as Liberty Kennels from which President Ford's golden came from; Gold Rush Kennels with their english creams and whose owner R. Ann Johnson published a well researched textbook on golden pups; and, also from Golden Glen Kennels that were well know for their dark goldens for their obedience and hunting. These are all our dogs - our pets first and foremost! We have been fortunate in gaining many referrals from past adoptees, as well as some of those getting 2nd, even 3rd, pups for themselves! We greatly appreciate our adoptees - past, present, and future. Our children participate in the breeding a little more each year! Of just over pups in 19 years, there has been great health history with no cancer. Any health issues have been mostly environmentally caused or some pretty common parasites that we work diligently to ward off for you and the pups. The Goldens we Breed: We have three spectrums of Golden pups and parents, primarily based on their coloring - See our "parents" page for complete information 1 English Cream bred with another English Cream. These come primarily from "Gold-Rush Kennels" lineage who have a long history of top dogs. These are the darker to dark red goldens that we started breeding with and come from great lineage both from "Liberty Kennels" back east from which came President Fords dog; and, "Golden Glen Kennels" with a long history of hunting and obedience backgrounds. This is a combination of the two above and produces some great pups in a range of medium light English Cream Golden to a medium to light medium dark "mocha" coloring. We have chosen not to breed the "average" golden that tends to be the light medium to medium in coloring with a fairly long coat. This is what the AKC considers the "standard of the breed". You will see these around, but mostly you will see them at a dog show; and, are the only range of Goldens you'll see shown. These average goldens have been way over bred, including a fair amount of "inbreeding", and they tend to have the most health problems due to this. There are some very beautiful dogs in this category, but by far we feel you will find the most beautiful, distinctive dogs with predictable great temperaments and health within the English Creams and darker Goldens. Our personal favorites are the very dark goldens, though hard to find. They specialized in the very dark goldens for hunting and obedience trials. Unfortunately these two ends of the spectrum do have their own caveats. The English Creams are fast becoming over bred with claims of grandiose backgrounds, rampant breeding of so-called "English Creams" "specially imported" from some country by a breeder, and they don't look much like a golden, and come with arbitrary high prices. With the darker Goldens, especially the darker red's, they are in a sense being hi-jacked by seemingly elite hunting breeders, generally requiring you to only use the dog for hunting activities a "working dog" ; and, subsequently, the "Golden community" is starting to lose these dogs that make fantastic intelligent companions and they also make great "help" dogs for people. Several of our darker Goldens have gone this route, as well as for hunting. This is not to say that the English Creams aren't good for this, as well! Most of our dogs, and the pups produced, have what we call a "long flat silky coat" that tends to be easier to care for than the very thick haired show golden and with generally less shedding. The English Cream Goldens tend to be somewhat fluffier and shed a bit more, while the darker goldens tend to maintain the flatter silky coat with less shedding. All our adults have good health backgrounds with their parents or grandparents, and farther back, having lots of OFA and CERF certifications for eyes, hearts, elbows, hips; though we go more by our health history because "certifications" tend to imply to many a level of "perfection" and unfortunately these are living beings, essentially just like us humans - see our health page for more health info. The darker Goldens tend to have a penchant toward hunting senses and abilities, though pups from all parents have been used for hunting. Some people favor the lighter, english cream goldens for their somewhat more mellow temperament, and somewhat lower energy level. However, be careful of seeking "mellow".This is especially true with a golden. We've never met or heard of a true golden retriever that doesn't have an inherent mellow temperament and that wants to bond with THEIR human. All our adults and pups, light to dark, have primarily the boxy heads with shorter snouts, though some have a somewhat longer snout. They all have wonderful traits of mellow dispositions, eager to please, and are "easily" obedience trained. We do provide the "one word" commands on our website, so you can start right away, but it does take comittment. The pups are socialized and surrounded by their siblings and mother and other dogs and all of our family 3 children, carefully monitored as well as visitors. Pups generally are released to their new homes around 8 weeks old. We do not recommend getting them much later, as the sooner they are with you, the sooner, and better, they will bond with you, instead of us or their siblings or parents. The ideal bonding time is from weeks old and gradually decreases at around 12 weeks of age; however, you will not find a golden that won't bond with a human at any age! Our pups have been placed in adoptive homes ranging as pets and companions to elderly care companions to pheasant hunting dogs to mascots on fishing boats to very happy apartment dwellers to families with 4 to 5 children. As a breeder under the USDA "Animal Welfare Act" we are classified as an "Exempt Business" - Anyone who sells domestic pets directly to pet owners is exempt, regardless of sales volume, when picked up face to face or may be sight-unseen when the breeder has 4 or fewer breeding females. Such sales can be made via internet, in person, or by mail. Life Span Did You Know? The Golden Retriever has been an AKC-recognized breed since and was commonly used as a gun dog and for retrieving small game such as waterfowl, and for companionship. If you are not the sporting type, bringing a Golden Retriever into your family as a pet is just as rewarding because they are one of the most loyal and jovial breeds out there. One of the facts about Golden Retrievers is that they are the epitome of friendly and make fantastic family dogs. Golden Retrievers are considered one of the friendliest dog breeds. They tend to be good with kids, other dogs, other pets, and even strangers. Goldens love attention and they bond closely with their families. They are affectionate with them, and also just about everyone else. Although they do tend to get along with everyone, they love being around their favorite humans the most. They will bark to alert you and can end up barking a lot if you do not train your dog to stop barking early on. Golden Retrievers are highly adaptable dogs. They thrive in homes with yards where they can run. They can also adapt to apartment living as long as they get enough daily exercise, mental stimulation, and attention. Although super-friendly and attention-loving, Goldens can also be sensitive to their surroundings; make sure they feel included, but have a quiet place to go if things get too noisy or overwhelming. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a Golden Retriever include progressive retinal atrophy, cataracts, elbow dysplasia , and hip dysplasia. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of puppies. Reputable breeders screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. Goldens are considered one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners. They are highly trainable dogs that pick up on things quickly and are eager to please. These traits make them a good fit for owners of all experience levels. It also helps them excel at obedience competitions. As one of the smartest dog breeds , Golden Retrievers can get bored easily. Because they pick up things quickly, they can get bored with too much repetition in training. If your dog has mastered the command, move on to something more advanced or another activity. Golden Retrievers have a long double coat that will shed a little year-round and will be heavier twice a year as the seasons change. Brushing a few times a week and daily brushing during seasonal shedding along with a bath as needed is usually enough for at-home care. It is important to keep in mind that many factors can affect their life expectancy such as diet, exercise, injury, genetics, etc. Australian Labradoodles are known to be gentle, mellow cross that is smart and eager to please. Their happy go lucky personality makes them great individual or family dogs. Australian Labradoodles come in several different sizes micro mini, mini, medium, and standard which means there is the perfect size for everyone! Australian Labradoodles have been intentionally bred for several generations making their traits and characteristics more predictable. Australian Labradoodles have three main coat types: Fleece: A Fleece coat can either be wavy or curly and will have a silky feel. These are typically non-shedding and relatively easy to maintain. Wool: A wool coat is curly, with a Poodle-like texture, has a cotton-like feel. These are usually non-shedding and can be a bit harder to maintain if kept long. Hair: A hair coat can be either straight or have a slight wave and is comparable to a lower generation ie F1 Labradoodle. These have are typically easy to maintain and have higher chance of shedding, but will vary by puppy. Multigenerational Australian Labradoodles that have been intentionally bred for several generations are typically non-shedding or very low-shedding. However, it is important to note that some breeders we do occasionally will do infusion litters with one of the parent breeds ie the Lab or Cocker Spaniel. These infusion litters may produce some puppies that are low to moderate shedding depending on their genetics. Australian Labradoodles can come in very wide variety of colors and patterns! Below are some examples of the colors and different patterns that we produce. Please note that not all colors and patterns are included! Below is a listing of the different coat colors, coloring descriptions and what to expect with their coats throughout their lifetime. Caramel Caramel colored dogs have liver noses brown. Their range of coat color can vary between light yellow to almost red in hue. The difference in a caramel dog and a chalk, cream, apricot and red dog is their nose color. Chocolate True chocolates are brown in color. Many chocolates do fade over time. Cream This color comes in a wide variety of shades but it should be creamy in appearance. The nose pigment is black. The pigment for the nose is black. Parchment This color is a creamy beige chocolate color. It has been described as a cup of coffee with a generous addition of milk. These dogs are born milk chocolate and will develop their parchment coloring over time. The nose pigment is rose. Red True reds should be rich and dark in color and the roots should be no lighter. Sadly, this coat color tends to fade over time. The nose color is to be black. This color develops over the first years. Nose pigment should be rose. Chalk This color is a white looking color. However, if you were to compare it to a true white, it would appear to be more chalk-white in color. Nose pigment is black. Black Black Labradoodles should be solid in color with no sprinklings of other colors throughout the coat. Their pigment color should be black. Silver These pups would start out black and their silver coloring develops over the first few years of their lives. The color range can be anywhere from a light pewter to a dark charcoal. Silver dogs need to have black pigmentation. The blue coat will develop over the first few years. The color should be solid once they are full grown. It should be a dark-medium smoky blue. Lavender This color has a smoky lavender chocolate coloring that almost gives off a pink to lilac appearance. These pups are born chocolate and will come into their beautiful lavender coats over the first few years. Their pigmentation should be rose in color. Parti These dogs need to be at least fifty percent white, with spots or patches of any other above solid color. Full or partial saddles are acceptable, but are not preferred. Ticking in the white of the coat is acceptable but not preferred. The nose pigment needs to match the solid color. Any combination of acceptable colors is allowed. Nose pigment should follow requirements listed above based on the solid base color. If your preferred color is caramel, can you choose between solid or markings and dark or light? You may have heard that Labradoodle puppies have dark coats that fade as they grow older. Is this true for caramel Labradoodle puppies too? What is a Caramel Labradoodle? One of the many charms of the Labradoodle is its soft, wavy coat. Almost anything goes when it comes to Labradoodle coat color, but some are more common than others, like caramel. Caramel is a popular Labradoodle coat color that refers to the color of caramel candy. Of course, not all caramels look the same. Some are dark and some are light. The same is true of caramel Labradoodles! Labradoodle breeders and breed experts report that caramel Doodles have brown nose leather and coat shades that range from very light to very dark. A Labradoodle described as caramel may very well be the traditional golden brown, but you may also see dogs described as ice, cream, or red caramel. The caramel color group is distinct from other Labradoodle color groups like chocolate and apricot, even though variations in shade can make them look somewhat similar. Labradoodles can also be partially caramel in color. Most Labrador fans know that there are 3 official coat colors for the breed. A Lab can be solid yellow, black, or chocolate. The breed standard allows for some variation in shade in yellow and chocolate Labs. Chocolate Labs can be light or dark brown. Parti-colored Poodles do exist, but they fall outside the official breed standard. Caramel Labradoodle Coat Color Genetics As you can imagine, the variety of parent breed coat color combinations can lead to all sorts of colors in the Labradoodle. A breeder can specialize in a particular type of Labradoodle coat color, like caramel, by selectively breeding dogs with that desired coat color. Coat color genetics can be complicated, but the basic principle is that 2 primary pigments black and red make up all dog coat colors. There are 8 different genes that determine all the aspects of canine coat color and pattern…from caramel Labradoodles to spotted Dalmatians to black and tan German Shepherds. Breeders can manipulate these genes via selective breeding to create dogs with a desired color, although of course there can always be unexpected surprises! Labradoodle breeders will tell you that nose leather color is key to coat color. The other Labradoodle nose color is black. Labradoodles labelled as caramel will always have brown noses, not black ones. If you see a brownish Labradoodle with a black nose, it will be either red, apricot, or cream, depending on the shade. A caramel Labradoodle can have a solid coat with that classic caramel candy color, but there are also plenty of variations in caramel coloring as well as coat markings to choose from. This lightning is not unique to Labradoodles. Coat color changes, like color itself, are also due to genetics. There is a gene that is often called the progressive greying gene or the Poodle fading gene that causes coat color to lighten in Poodles. This greying gene can be inherited in some Labradoodles. There is also a different gene that causes dilute pale coat color in dogs, but the color will be light at the start and will not fade gradually. Avoid getting your puppy from a pet store or online ad, as many of these dogs come from commercial breeding operations known as puppy mills. This will ensure that your caramel Labradoodle will be a happy and healthy companion. More Labradoodle Colors. Blog What Color is that Australian Labradoodle?? That is such a pretty dog!!! What color is it?? We will address what kind of dog later. Please note these are the most common. There are many other variations in coat color but there are only 2 pigment colors for the nose, eye rims, and paw pads. You either have Black or Liver pigment. The liver pigment can also be called Brown or Chocolate. The pigment is the determining factor between a Caramel dog and a Red dog with the same coat color. The easiest way to determine the color of a dog is to look at its nose. Is it Black or is it Liver, Brown, or Chocolate? It is very common for a dog that looks to be red based on its fur to be called a red dog, but in fact, it is a caramel because it has a Liver or Brown nose. If this is confusing you are not alone; Many times people get coat colors and patterns confused. The nose is!! Who knew the nose was so important?!? This can be very confusing to the novice breeder or pet owner. One of the most common mistakes is the example given above for the Red vs. Caramel dog. As a breeder understanding the genetics not only for health but also for what outcome you will get for each mating is extremely important in what we do. More on that later. The ALD guide attached has pictures with examples of each of the most common colors and patterns. This is meant as a quick basic guide to getting your feet wet or pointed in the right direction on what color is that dog! Education is key. Do your homework and be patient. It matters!!! This color can do some interesting things! It can fade into at least three distinct, official Labradoodle colors! Go figure!! I have had one of my chocolate girls turn completely Lavender on her body but not the head, then within a year, go completely back to dark chocolate. So, like a good Boy Scout, when you purchase a chocolate Labradoodle, be prepared for anything! All are lovely, but they are almost impossible to predict with any significant degree of accuracy. Once again, be prepared for anything! Chocolate Colors Now we get to the fun part; the color combinations! This is where things get interesting. Partis can come in any color, with either color nose. Some are mostly white, while some have lots of color and less white. The ones that are mostly white are called "Extreme" Partis. The variations are endless and unique, like a snowflake. The colors, such as chocolate, on a parti can change in the same ways that they would on a solid dog. Often confused with "Parti" is a dog with heavy white mismarks or a Tuxedo. White mismarks can be very small or very heavy, or anywhere in-between. The puppy is born either Black or Chocolate and immediately begins to lose the dark color, revealing anything from a cream to a red underneath! The tips of the fur may retain their dark cast, but the dog will present as somewhere on the cream-red spectrum. I have included her picture below showing her in the middle of the changing process. The genetics of color are absolutely fascinating!

Also called Miniature Labrapoos, Labradoodles, and Labradorpoos, the Miniature Labradoodle is a well-known hybrid breed in a smaller package. They are sweet-natured and smart, and they love to spend time with their people. They are affectionate with their family. They are also tolerant and compassionate, and they tend to be well-behaved around people of all ages and other pets. Labradoodles are generally healthy and should live to be 10 to 14 years old. These qualities make Miniature Labradoodles an ideal family dog that does well with other pets and children. Even the most inexperienced dog parents find this breed to be easy to train and eager to please. They are too gentle and sweet to make a good guard dog, but they can be useful watchdogs. They are small and fluffy, square and athletic. Long, furry ears are set on the top and back of their heads. Their muzzles can be medium to long. The Miniature Labradoodle coat varies a great deal, ranging from straight to loose curls, and usually kept about 4 to 6 inches in length. The coat may be one of three textures. They could have hair similar to fur in shedding dogs, they could have a more dense and non-shedding wool, or they could have more of a silky fleece. They come in a variety of colors: Gold. View fullsize Both our chocolate Labradoodle and our Poodle are beautiful dogs with excellent temperaments. They are our family pets. Because we begin with a Labradoodle and a Poodle, rather than a Lab and a Poodle, our puppies are much more likely to have the non-shedding Poodle coat. A F1b Labradoodle has been back-crossed to a poodle in an effort to insure a non-shedding coat. Even though most f1b Labradoodles shed very little or not all, it is impossible to guarantee that any dog even doodles or purebred poodles will not shed at all. Hypo- means less hypothermia is having a lower than normal body temperature. No dog can be said to be completely non-allergenic. Studies have shown that doodles are less likely to cause allergies, particularly f1b doodles. The ideal is to keep as much of the Lab head shape and super-friendly personality as possible while getting the non-shedding Poodle coat as well as the dignified, less vocal characteristics of the Poodle. Our Labradoodle methodology is quite simple. First, we get quality dogs. This is why we wanted to have pick of the litter for our Labradoodle and our Poodle and why we only obtained puppies from reputable breeders that we knew we could trust. Second, we try to treat our dogs Labradoodle and Poodle well. We feed our Labradoodle and Poodle high quality food with plenty of protein, and give them wonderful socialization and opportunities for exercise. We recognize the importance of socializing young Labradoodle puppies so they will not be fearful as they mature.
