Fruits and vegetables Labradoodles can eat Dairy If your Labradoodle is not lactose intolerant, he can eat some dairy foods in moderation. Dairy foods provide protein, calcium, vitamin D, A, B12, zinc, magnesium, and selenium. They build strong bones, reduce the risk of diabetes, and may improve heart health. Experimenting with small amounts of dairy foods is best to see what your dog can handle. Some dogs have trouble digesting milk but can enjoy small pieces of cheese or a blob or two of plain yogurt. My dog loves small chunks of cheese but cannot tolerate even a small spoonful of heavy cream — although she is okay with some milk. World of Dogz Commercial Dog Food Aside from the foods listed above, you can also feed your Labradoodle commercial dog food. Labradoodles can eat dry, wet, semi-dry food technically wet, too , raw, dehydrated, or freeze-dried food. However, you must be careful not to select a food package for a different breed with macro nutritional requirements other than Labradoodles. The most remarkable thing about commercial dog food is that it is far less expensive than homemade dog food and takes much less time to prepare, store, and feed. Labradoodles cannot eat chocolate, macadamia nuts, black walnuts, onion, garlic, grapes, or avocado. Standard market-packed sardines are the safest fish for dogs. Even onion powder in a broth can have this effect. Garlic Garlic can also make your dog anemic. Make sure any food you prepare contains no garlic flavor. Chocolate Theobromine and caffeine in chocolate and chocolate-adjacent products are toxic to dogs. Ensure you choose an organic brand. Nuts Some nuts can lead to weakness, vomiting, and tremors. Macadamia and black walnuts are the worst at this. Other varieties are also too high in fat. Avocado The avocado skin can result in vomiting and diarrhea, so your Labradoodle should be kept away from this fruit. Your dog can OD on alcohol. Sugar Dogs love sweet treats, but if you feed a sugar-rich diet, they will get fat. Yeast Dough If you bake bread at home, keep your dog away from unbaked dough. It can ferment in the stomach causing alcohol toxicosis, and the yeast can rise in the gut, causing a severe blockage. The first is to sit down and curate a Labradoodle diet that dodges the above. The second is to simply opt for packaged dog food. Specific fruits can be toxic to your Labradoodle — especially grapes and starfruit. You can feed your dog veggies — yet garlic and onion can be problematic. You can provide your dog fish — but not if it is completely raw. However, organic food is healthier than extruded kibble cooked at high temperatures which reduces its nutritional value. On the other hand, packaged dog food is easy to get, feed, and store. Wet Dog Food If your Labradoodle turns his nose up at dry kibble, you can try wet dog food as it contains much higher moisture content than dry food. Some larger dogs like it, whereas others prefer a bit of crunch. Take note, though, that canned wet food can be expensive for dogs the size of Labradoodles, as you will need to provide much more. Ensure you check the protein content, as wet food contains a lot of water. Dry and Wet Mix This is one of the most widely preferred Labradoodle food types, and you get the best of both worlds. Most Doodles who dislike dry or wet food like a wet and dry mix. Adding a few scoops of wet food to dry food changes the texture and palatability of the food, making it enticing to your dog. You can also add water to dry dog food making it easier to digest and more appetizing, especially if you have a fussy eater or a dog with general appetite loss due to illness. This gives your dog added variety — but remember to adjust the calories accordingly. You may also consider semi-moist dog food. You can use one of countless dog chow recipes to produce homemade dog food. Some dog owners enjoy home cooking for their dogs as it gives them complete control of what they feed them. However, preparing a homemade diet can also be expensive and is very time-consuming. Check out the directory of certified vet nutritionists from the American College of Veterinary Nutrition to help you find one in your area. Raw Dog Food Of course, if you grasp the idea of feeding chow made from leftover meat, you can always get your Labradoodle a prime Wagyu steak. A raw food diet consists of raw meat and organs mixed in — and raw bones. This method of feeding your dog has grown in popularity in recent years. You can prepare a raw diet at home, similar to a home-cooked meal except raw , or buy pre-prepared complete and balanced raw food, which is more convenient. While weighing up your options, you might want to consider the price of feeding a raw diet. Dehydrated Dog Food Dehydrated dog food also known as air-dried is often confused with dry dog food because it is technically dry. However, you must add water to get the food into the shape it is intended to be served. A dehydrated doggy diet is a healthy and minimally processed feeding option as it uses a low-heat and gentle drying method. It combines the convenience of dry food with the nutritional benefits of raw. It is easier to store and far more portable, but it can be costly. Freeze-Dried Dog Food Freeze-dried dog food is prepared at the factory and brought into its wet form, then freeze-dried into solids that dissolve in the water. It is dehydrated at a lower temperature. Once the food is put in a sealed package, it can take years to degrade because there is no moisture for microorganisms to survive. When you buy freeze-dried dog food, it is still raw. For example, a Labrador mixed with a Standard Poodle will need far more food than a much smaller Lab mixed with a Toy Poodle. A smaller adult female needs 1. A Labradoodle puppy needs 12 — 16 ounces of food per day divided into 3 meals initially and then 2 meals at 6 months old. Labradoodles tend to control their weight pretty well. However, some dogs may be food-motivated and greedy, especially if they carry the POMC mutated gene , which is responsible for an increased appetite in Labradors. Labradoodle Feeding Schedule You should consider the energy your dog expends during the day when creating a healthy feeding schedule for them. Mini Labradoodles, for example, will burn off energy more quickly than the standard variety. However, it is advised to offer one cup of dry dog food or its equivalent and then wait eight hours before feeding another cup to avoid canine bloat. When your Labradoodle is a puppy, you must split his intake into 3 or 4 meals. Feeding your pup can be slightly complicated because of your, and not his, schedule. Labradoodle Puppy Meal Plan Puppies need feeding more often, as they need extra calories for growth and to satisfy their energy requirements. Labradoodle puppies should be fed 4 meals a day up to 3 months of age, 3 meals a day up to 6 months of age, and 2 meals a day from 6 months to adulthood. Age of Labradoodle. Is kibble, cans, raw or homemade food better? Swapping Puppy Food Brands Moving into his or her new home is a challenging and exciting time for your Labradoodle puppy. Keep feeding what your pup is used to for at least two weeks. Then, slowly start mixing in the new food you have chosen for your pup. Labradoodle Puppy Diets Puppies have lots of growing to do. This means that they need more of certain minerals and nutrients for example calcium and phosphorus for bone growth. Your labradoodle pup will also need a higher amount of good quality protein. This is definitely not the case, though. This—among other things—can cause joint problems, such as hip dysplasia. Labradoodles are a cross between two breeds that are both already at high risk of developing hip dysplasia. The most important thing of all is to avoid overfeeding a Labradoodle puppy, as we will see later in this article. This is called hypoglycemia. Generally, a feeding schedule for your Labradoodle pup can look like this: 2 — 4 months: 4 meals daily 4 — 6 months: 3 meals daily 6 — 8 months: 2 — 3 meals daily Older than 8 months: 2 meals daily. Just make sure to divide the total daily amount onto multiple feedings. You can make slight adjustments to these amounts if your pup is looking a little slim or chunky. The number of calories your pup needs will also change as he or she gets older and heavier. There are a couple of different options out there. Commercial dog foods offer complete and balanced nutrition for your growing pup — this means that they have all the right nutrients in all the right amounts and ratios. If a puppy is fed an inappropriate diet, this could lead to long-lasting growth defects or other malnutrition diseases. Feeding a Labradoodle Puppy Kibble Kibble is the most popular type of dog food out there. There are only two things you need to pay attention to when choosing kibble: It should be designed specifically for puppies, and it should be high-quality. Research shows that higher-priced dog foods tend to have higher nutrient digestibility than lower-priced kibble — so it might be worth spending a bit more. Choose a kibble that contains a meat protein source as the first ingredient, and steer clear of ingredients like corn, soy, and cereals. Due to its high water content, the aromas and taste of the meat unfold better, making wet food the most palatable food there is. This comes at a bit of a cost, though: Wet food tends to be more expensive than kibble, and of course it spoils more easily. To get the best of both worlds of commercial dog foods, you can combine or alternate between kibble and wet food. The BARF diet consists of lots of raw meat and bones, as well as some veg and fruit. Supporters of raw feeding think that it will make your dog healthier, although there is no solid evidence for this yet. Raw meats are often contaminated with bacteria such as Salmonella or Campylobacter. These bacteria could potentially cause diseases in your pup. However, this is extremely rare, as the digestive tract most dogs can handle these bugs just fine. This means that there is a lot less danger of bacterial infections from raw meats. Keep in mind that cooking for a dog is not the same as cooking for yourself. Avoid spices, onions, garlic, cooking oils, and too much salt. These are dogs that will always want more food and are prone to obesity. It can help to space out meals or add one or two feedings a day if your dog is constantly hungry. Another option is to make your dog work for small amounts of food throughout the day — be it with puppy training, food balls, or puzzles. The possibilities are endless. Labradoodles are unique because they come in a variety of sizes and shapes. In general, Labradoodles need protein-rich foods that contain essential fatty acids like omega-3s. These will help keep their coats shiny and their energy levels high. Additionally, Labradoodles need glucosamine to help support healthy joints, as well as probiotics for digestion and immunity. Proteins Labradoodles require a lot of protein in their diets. Look for foods that have high-quality sources of animal proteins such as chicken, fish, and lamb. Look for foods that contain healthy sources of fats, such as fish oil and flaxseed. Carbohydrates When shopping for food for your Labradoodle, you want to look for foods with complex carbohydrates such as sweet potatoes, brown rice, and oats. These will provide your pup with sustained energy throughout the day. Look for foods that contain essential vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin E, iron, zinc, and B Vitamins. These will help keep their immune systems strong and give them the energy they need. Overall, when shopping for the best food for Labradoodles, you want to look for proteins, healthy fats, complex carbohydrates, and essential vitamins and minerals. By doing this, your pup will get all of the nutrition he or she needs to stay happy and healthy! What Ingredients Should You Avoid? When it comes to dog food, you want to make sure you avoid ingredients like corn, wheat, soy, and artificial preservatives. These can all be difficult for your pup to digest and may cause allergies or stomach issues. Additionally, you want to make sure you avoid any food that contains by-products or fillers as these are not nutritious and could potentially be harmful. Labradoodles can suffer from a variety of health issues, including joint pain, allergies, and skin irritations. Depending on the issue your pup is facing, you may want to look for foods that are specifically formulated to address these problems. Joint Pain If your pup is suffering from joint pain, look for foods that contain glucosamine and chondroitin. These are natural supplements that help to lubricate the joint and reduce inflammation. Skin Irritations If your pup is suffering from skin irritations, look for foods that contain omega-3 fatty acids. These essential fats help keep the skin hydrated and can reduce inflammation. Sensitive Stomachs If your pup has a sensitive stomach, look for foods that are easy to digest and have limited ingredients. This will help minimize the chances of any digestive issues or allergies. German Shepherd Pitbull Mix Video Temperament They have a calm nature and somewhat affectionate nature that can be enhanced with proper training. The German Pit is loyal to its family, enjoying spending time with them. Though they may not need your attention always, contented enough to spent some time on their own, leaving them alone for prolonged periods might make them destructive. Since they take on the genes of the German Shepherd and Pitbull, the Pit-German Shepherd mix may inherit their guarding instincts to a certain extent, being protective towards its family and exhibiting wariness towards strangers. It could even be territorial with other dogs and get into a chasing mode on encountering smaller pets. While allowing them to interact with children ensure there is proper parental supervision and the dog has been well socialized. Care Exercise It has a high exercise need, requiring two brisk walks a day, along with sufficient playtime. Keeping its excessive energy levels in mind it is not recommended to keep it in an apartment or enclosed space as it might get restless. Remember to leash it while taking it out. Grooming Though it does not need excessive grooming, brushing your Shepherd Pit with a brush having hard bristles on a weekly basis would be sufficient enough. It might resent grooming in the beginning, so you need to handle it gently and use positive reinforcements if needed, to help it get accustomed. Bathe it when it gets dirty and also check its ears and eyes once a week to keep any infections at bay. Brushing its teeth and trimming its nails are also essential. Health Problems Though healthy, the German Pit might inherit some of the conditions suffered by its parents like bloating, hip and elbow dysplasia, allergies, hypothyroidism and heart problems. Training Training the German Shepherd mixed with Pitbull since its puppy days is mandatory, though an experienced master is preferred over a novice trainer. Socialization: Having the genes of German Shepherd and Pitbull, it might exhibit aggression and biting instinct, for which early socialization is a must. Teach it to differentiate between a threat and a pleasant situation so that your pet understands that a crying baby or playful kids playing in the yard is not bad. Feeding Feeding it cups good quality dry dog food in combination with a nutritious homemade diet would be sufficient. Parent Breeds The parent breeds of the German shepherd pitbull mix include the German shepherd and the American pitbull terrier. As these breeds are both large dogs, the resulting mix is a large dog with unique physical and personality traits from both parent breeds. German Shepherd The German shepherd was originally selectively bred from shepherd dogs in 19th century Germany, where it was used as a herding dog. The breed was developed to be intelligent, strong, agile, and protective of flocks, all qualities that made it successful in its line of work. Horand von Grafath was recognized as the first German shepherd dog in .Today, the breed is still regarded as one of the best working dogs in the world because of its loyalty and eagerness to please. The German shepherd is used in police work, detection, service work, and search and rescue. German shepherd pitbull mixes often inherit the protective, hardworking temperament, strength, and wolf-like features of the German shepherd. The dogs were bred from terriers and bulldogs and used in blood sports like bullbaiting and dogfighting. American pitbull terriers were later selectively bred in the United States to have the muscular builds, sizes, and affectionate temperaments seen today. With proper socialization, American pitbull terriers make loyal, well-behaved companions. Lifespan A German shepherd pitbull mix has an average life expectancy of 10 to 12 years if the dog follows a nutritious diet and exercises daily. Regular vet checkups help reduce the risk of health complications in German shepherd pitbull mixes. This mixed breed comes in shades of tan, white, gray, or black. Height and Weight German shepherd pitbull mixes are considered large dogs, with a height at the withers of 18—26 inches, and a weight of 30—90 pounds. Males are typically larger than females. Most German sheppits are lean, muscular, and slightly taller than their pitbull parents. Colors German shepherd pitbull mixes are typically tan, white, or black with bicolor markings. The coat color depends on the genes they inherit from their parents: German shepherd colors: Most common color combination is black and tan. Other colors include solid black, gray, red, and white. American pitbull terrier colors: Common colors are brown, black, and tan with various markings. Rare colors include solid white and brindle. German sheppits shed minimally to moderately throughout the year, depending on coat type. Double-coated dogs blow their coats twice a year. Personality and Temperament Photo by spcaofnorthernnevada German shepherd pitbull mixes are smart, affectionate, and protective dogs that form strong bonds with their owners. They get along well with kids, and their intelligence and athletic stature make them well-suited to agility classes and fieldwork. Socializing and training this mixed breed from a young age will help it grow into an outgoing, obedient, and even-tempered adult. These dogs can be trained with positive reinforcement from an early age to not bark excessively. Left alone, German sheppits often experience anxiety and engage in destructive behavior, like barking and scratching, to cope. While smart and not fussy over food, these dogs need plenty of exercise, training, and mental stimulation to stay happy. Food Needs A German sheppit adult should be fed 2 to 3. Grooming Needs The German shepherd pitbull mix should be brushed weekly, or a few times per week if it has inherited a double coat, to distribute natural oils and keep its fur tangle-free. Bathe the dog once every few months and ensure its nails are well-trimmed. Exercise Needs An adult German shepherd pitbull mix requires at least 60 minutes of exercise per day, split into two separate walks, to remain physically fit. A two-month-old puppy needs 10 minutes of exercise per day, while a four-month-old puppy requires 20 minutes. German sheppits do best in homes with large, secure backyards where they can run freely. Certain states, cities, and territories have laws in place that restrict or ban pitbulls and pitbull mixes. Check local laws before exercising this mixed breed in new areas. Mental Needs German shepherd pitbull mixes need 60 minutes of mental stimulation per day to prevent aggression, boredom, and anxiety. Suitable mentally-stimulating activities include obedience training, scent work, herding, puzzle toys, agility classes, and interactive games like fetch. Depending on the severity, the condition can be managed with medication and surgery. Bloat : When the stomach fills with gas, food, or fluid, and then twists, causing severe abdominal pain. Bloat is often fatal if not treated immediately. Hip dysplasia : Abnormal formation of the hip joint that causes pain and mobility issues. Treatable with surgery and lifestyle changes. Degenerative myelopathy : Degeneration of the spinal cord that causes leg weakness, incontinence, and eventually paralysis. The condition is managed and treated with lifestyle changes, anti-inflammatory medication, and in some cases surgery. Symptoms include lethargy, weight gain, exercise intolerance, and coat changes. Hypothyroidism is treatable with medication. Cataracts : Cloudiness of the eye lens that causes vision issues. The German sheppit is particularly prone to food and skin allergies. Take these dogs to regular vet checkups to reduce their risks of health complications. Use positive reinforcement and be firm and consistent when training this mixed breed. Never use punishment-based training methods because these can cause anxiety in dogs and exacerbate their aggressive behaviors. These dogs need plenty of training and socialization throughout their lives to keep their dog aggression in check. German shepherd pitbull mixes are often available for adoption from rescue shelters. This price includes expenses such as food, treats, vet checkups, toys, and training. First-year costs are higher than subsequent years because of the costs of first-year puppy vaccinations and neutering or spaying, and initial supplies like bedding. The German shepherd pitbull mix is an affectionate and loyal dog that loves pleasing its owners. The mixed breed is playful, energetic, and well-suited to people that lead active lifestyles. German shepherd pitbull mixes are suitable for people that are active, have a large backyard, and can dedicate lots of time to socializing and training the dog. The best owners for these dogs are people that use positive reinforcement measures and stick to set boundaries. First-time dog owners should also avoid these dogs because the breed is difficult to manage without proper socialization and training. Check out these other hybrid dog breeds: German Shepherd Mixes. Conclusion 1. What does a German Shepherd Pitbull Mix look like? It is impossible to tell with certainty what the dog will look like when it is a mixed breed. What we do know is that this breed is more likely to have the face of the Pitbull, with a broad head and a short muzzle. As for coloring, this breed comes in a variety of colors: black, white, brown, tan, gray and fawn. Given that both the Pitbull and German Shepherd have strong physiques, it is not surprising that this mixed breed does too. Fully grown, these dogs are large , as mentioned in the first paragraph their average weight between lbs 29 — 38 kgs , so it is important that you have her under control. You can do this by properly training and socializing her. What characteristics can I expect? As with all crossbreeds, it is not easy to say precisely what temperament this dog will have, as it will always be a different combination. In my experience, however, they tend to have the following traits: High energy All dogs need regular exercise to stay fit, and this large breed usually needs a whole lot. I recommend at least a one-hour walk a day, providing you have an outdoor space where she can release excess energy for the rest of the day. By giving her the exercise she needs, you will avoid undesired behaviors such as slipper-chewing, hole-digging or nuisance barking. As long as she gets her exercise needs met, she will be happy to settle down and relax with you. Loyal and loving Pitbull German Shepherd mixes are very affectionate dogs when raised right. While they are good at entertaining themselves, they still love to be around you and make a good family dog. This dog can have a very protective nature. This is due to its German Shepherd relatives , who were bred to herd and guard livestock. To prevent this from the outset, you should socialize her with people as much as possible from an early age. Intelligence Both the Pitbull and the German Shepherd are incredibly intelligent breeds. It is no surprise, then, that this mix is no exception. These dogs learn quickly and respond incredibly well to training and commands. Just as you exercise her body, it is important to keep her mind stimulated, too. You should start training at the earliest possible stage. It is important to keep a close eye on this type of behavior because, if it gets out of control, it can turn into aggression. What are the common health problems? Providing that she has a healthy lifestyle, as we mentioned above this breed can live for up to 12 years. Every dog breed is susceptible to certain health difficulties, however, and it is good to be aware of these so that you can treat your dog accordingly. In the meantime, it is worth knowing that this breed can suffer from the following diseases: Skin irritation The Pitbull German Shepherd mix can be prone to skin irritation, which they inherit from the Pitbull side of its family. They tend to have more sensitive skin, which can react strongly to insect bites as well as to fleas and ticks. To prevent this reaction, make sure you use a high-quality tick and flea treatment. Diet also plays an important part in maintaining the health of the skin. Hip Dysplasia Hip dysplasia is a condition that can begin in dogs as they grow and results in an unstable or loose hip joint. While weight management is essential for any dog breed, it is highly important that this breed maintains a healthy weight to avoid stressing the hip joint. How much will I need to groom her? This mix has a coat that can range from short to medium in length. I recommend starting your grooming regime when she is a puppy so that she can get used to the routine. I do not advise over-bathing these dogs no more than once a month due to their tendency to skin irritation. It may also be worth buying a shampoo specifically designed for dogs with sensitive skin. German Pits are usually floppy-eared, which means they get less air circulation and are therefore more prone to earwax build-up and ear infections. I advise that you get her ears checked at least monthly, either at the vet or with a reputable groomer. So is the German Pit the right fit for me? After all the information you have read, it is now important to put this question to yourself. As you can see, these dogs have the potential to be lovely, loyal dogs that are ideal for a family. Yet they require a lot of attention, walking and training, so they need a dedicated, and preferably experienced, dog owner. Conclusion Here are the main points to consider before committing to owning one of these dogs: Are you an experienced dog owner? Are you dedicated to walking your dog at least an hour a day? Do you have a spacious house with a yard, or can you walk her twice daily? Are you able to provide a rigorous and dedicated training routine? If not, it might be time to reconsider getting a different breed of dog. Do you own a German Shepherd Pitbull Mix? Leave a comment below and tell me all about it! About Alexandra Animalso I was raised to be a dog person. My first Shepherd grew up as I did and wanted to be where I was at all times. I got my second dog as a 16th birthday present, and her loyalty for me was just as strong as my first. I hope that my contribution to Animalso will help others find dogs who give them that same unconditional love. I have worked with various large breeds all my life. The German Shepherd is my favorite. I recently brought home a mixed breed. .Our Puppy is high energy at 8 weeks old. Highly intelligent and very affectionate. I have a large family with lots of boys and 1 girl. So our family is definitely the right fit! In my opinion every family member should have an caring active role in raising the family dog. Your vet can help you develop a care routine that will keep your dog healthy. German Shepherd Pit Bulls are prone to weight gain. They also have high energy levels. About three hours a day of activity is recommended. Agility training, hiking, walking, running, or playing around a yard will keep them happy. Check their ears for debris and pests daily and clean them as recommended by your vet. They should not be clicking against the floor. Your groomer can help with this. One of the toughest jobs when caring for a German Shepherd Pit Bull is maintaining their oral health. You should brush their teeth daily, as many breeds are prone to dental issues. Vets or groomers are good at performing this messy task. You should consult your veterinarian or professional pet nutritionist for advice on what to feed your German Shepherd Pit Bull and the correct portion sizes. Their dietary needs will change as they grow from puppyhood to adulthood and into their senior years. Stay on top of these nutritional requirements. Their German Shepherd parents grow very rapidly between the ages of four and seven months, making them susceptible to bone disorders. They do well on a high-quality, low-calorie diet that keeps them from growing too fast. Overfeeding your German Shepherd Pit Bull and letting them pack on the pounds can cause joint problems, as well as other health conditions. Limit treats, keep them active, and serve them regular meals rather than leaving food available at all times. The main colors of German Shepherd Pit Bulls coats are brown, black, white, grey, tan, and fawn. Almost never solid, their coats are generally a mixture of two or more colors. They usually have short thick coats, and this mixed breed is not recommended for people with allergies. They tend to shed quite a bit and you may need to pick up a RoboVac. These pups will require at least three good brushes per week. Brushing will also help to spread the oils throughout the coat. German Shepherd Pit Bulls may be able to handle some extreme weather conditions for short periods of time. These dogs must live indoors with their families. However their size could put them at a disadvantage around smaller children. They could easily accidentally knock over a toddler. No matter how friendly, no dog should ever be left unsupervised with a small child. German Shepherd Pit Bulls can get along well other dogs, especially if raised with them. Socialization early on is a must for this mixed breed. For a better understanding of this breed read more about their parent breeds, the German Shepherd and American Pit Bull Terrier. However, you may want to try German Shepherd Dog or American Pit Bull Terrier breed specific rescues, as they often care for mixes, as well. Here are some rescues you can try:. Temperament: It depends. A German Pit dog can be gentle, loving and protective of its family. It will like to be top dog and may challenge authority but with proper training it will learn who the master is. It gets bored easily. They cannot be left alone for long periods of time, or they can become noisy and naughty. Feelings and signals: Dogs communicate in many ways from playing to barking. Never approach a dog with its tail way down! How should you train a German Shepherd Pitbull Mix? With patience! There are several types of training required: obedience, discipline, agility and socialization. Each is important to help this type of puppy learn to socialize and behave. This looks like a dangerous dog so it is important to train it to challenge perceptions and show people the best of this breed instead. How do you begin puppy training? It will take time, patience, with positive reinforcement, using praise and small treats as a reward for success. So, if you are not going to use a professional dog trainer — Here are some tips to begin: 1 Develop your basic command words: Find the keywords you think you will use most like Sit, Stop, and Fetch etc. It will become its nest and it will feel safe and sleep there. Any mix from purebred dogs, could have congenital health problems. A German Shepherd and an American Pitbull Terrier cross breed could develop: Hip Dysplasia Hip dysplasia is a mal-formation of the hip joint, where the ball at the top of the leg does not fit properly into the socket and the ligaments attaching it are weak. This allows excess movement of the fitting which can eventually lead to stiffness and pain for the dog. This active dog could have hip problems, causing pain when moving. Early warning signs are — stiffness when getting up or walking, reluctance to get up when prompted and its usual walking style can change. It can occur early or later in life. The only way to check is to trace the health history of the birth parents. There is no cure but a Vet will help with medication to manage the pain. Skin problems Atopic dermatitis They can develop allergies causing skin conditions and itching — from grass, mold, pollen etc. Bloat Gastric Dilatation-volvulus Affects many deep-chested, larger dog breeds that like to eat large volumes quickly, drink too much water after eating or even eat too close to exercising. Early signs are: restlessness after eating, a bloated stomach and an inability to reject excess air or food through ineffective retching. In each case it is important to seek medical help! Exercise: This will be a very active dog, with lots of energy and need lots of exercise. They like to play chase and fetch. A puppy needs hours of exercise every day and more when older otherwise it will get bored. It will love running around and adventures but not adapt to small spaces. Therefore not suited to apartment living. Remember: Puppies should not be exercised too much on hard ground as their paws are still delicate so a mix of hard and softer ground is recommended until they are at least 2 years of age. Leash training is strongly recommended for discipline, safety and control in the early years. Feeding: Feed as an active large-sized dog with a recommended type of specially-formulated dry food. A Vet will advise the food type, exact amount, how often and if they need extra mineral and vitamins. Puppies should have their daily amount split into 3 daily feeds. Be careful not to over-feed them as weight gain can put pressure on their hips. Grooming: This dog has a short to medium length coat of hair that does shed but not too much so it only needs to be brushed times a week. A good brush is recommended. Bathing: This dog has short hair like the Pitbull so bathing is only recommended when needed, but not too often as their coats contain natural oil; which can be stripped with over-bathing. Certain shampoos have the double effect of cleaning the coat and protecting it against fleas and insect bites. Chewing helps, so use doggie chew toys, bare bones, soft tooth brushes and toothpaste. Nails grow quickly and need to be trimmed regularly, say once a month, and checked for infection. Their floppy ears need to be regularly checked for dirt build-up or infection. Anything unusual should be checked by a Vet. What is life like for a GSPM? Otherwise, with their high energy levels they may show their boredom through destroying or chewing things and barking. They can make a great family dog. Remember just how active this dog is before choosing one. How much does it cost? Always best to adopt rather than buy if you can. Adopting a German Shepherd Pitbull mix from an adoption center is the best thing you can do. It can be life changing — not only for the dog but to you as well. He requires a low-to-medium maintenance level due to its short coat and a moderate amount of shedding. Brushing his coat can be done weekly, or three times a week if you are the type of person who is greatly bothered by scattered dog hair. Make sure to clean his ears often since this area is common to accumulate dirt, moisture, and bacteria. Nail trimming should be accomplished every few weeks to keep his paws clean and healthy. Pitbull mixed with German Shepherd Health Problems Provided that he is given the proper care and is living a healthy lifestyle, this crossbreed can live up to 12 years. Every breed is susceptible to specific health issues, and so it is essential that as a dog owner, you are aware of these things so that you know how to take care well of your dog accordingly. It is worth remembering that the Pitbull crossed with German Shepherd may suffer from the following diseases. Hip Dysplasia: The German Shepherd breed is genetically susceptible to this condition, and the possibility of passing it to its offspring is highly possible. The disease is characterized by malformation of the hip joints which may cause lameness and ongoing pain. Atopic Dermatitis: It is an inflammatory skin condition which may be triggered by exposure to certain environmental factors such as grass sprayed with pesticides and mold spores. To avoid this condition from affecting your pup, make sure to keep your house clean. Also, keep an eye for increased use of pesticides at dog parks. Skin Irritation: The Pitbull German Shepherd is prone to skin irritation, which it inherits from the Pitbull side of the family. They have a more sensitive skin, which can react strongly to insect bites, such as fleas and ticks. Generally, feeding him cups of good quality dry food daily in combination with nutritious homemade diet would be sufficient. A well-balanced diet covering all the essential nutrients, including an appropriate protein and calorie intake, is vital in an active breed like the German Sheppit. On average, the German Shepherd Pitbull needs calories for males, while calories for females. Its core ingredients include ground brown and white rice, lamb meal and chicken meal. It has all-natural ingredients infused with additional minerals and vitamins. Its main components include chicken, real beef and salmon meat products. Blue Buffalo Wilderness: If your Pitbull German Shepherd has food allergies, this dog food is the right choice for you. It is a grain-free turkey and potato recipe dog food supplemented with antioxidant-rich kibble. This dog food is formulated to minimize food sensitivities while maximizing the nutritional value dogs receive. Wellness Simple Limited Ingredient: This dog food is formulated for dogs with sensitive stomachs. If your pooch is still a munchkin, you should go through best puppy food brands. Senior, gray-coated dogs require different diets. Your pooch takes genes from two parents. This means you could also take into account buying the best dry dog food for small dogs or best large breed dry dog food. Pitbull Crossed with German Shepherd Exercise Requirements The Pitbull German Shepherd mix is an active and high-energy dog, so it might get destructive if he gets bored. This breed love to move around and therefore enjoys doing exercise activities. It is recommended to exercise him at least 90 minutes daily. Their exercise requirement is not just a guideline, but it is crucial that they are met. Without enough exercise, this breed may fall into a pattern of aggressive and destructive behaviors, such as excessive barking, unwanted chewing, and digging. Mental stimulation exercises should also be part of your routine to keep them from getting bored and further improve its social interactions. You can provide your pet with interactive dog toys. While it is true that they come from parent breeds with remarkable high intelligence, you should be warned that training them can be a bit overwhelming. Patience, attention, more time and positive reinforcement are the key components that owners should abide by in training this crossbreed. This is for your dog to learn the proper etiquette at a young age and avoid developing unwanted behaviors when it grows up. Remember to keep the pace of the training slow as your pup is still young and its body might still be fragile. After a year or two, however, you can increase the pace. Moreover, take note that an experienced trainer is better than a novice trainer. You need to be strong and authoritative. Otherwise, this dog will try to dominate you. Gentle yet firm treatment is the way to go with the German Sheppit puppy. Use Positive ReinforcementEven if this mixed breed has a tendency to become stubborn, avoid taking extreme measures. Using negative punishment-based training will not do any help, he might just end up not respecting you as a leader. Make it a regular routine to reward him whenever he does something right. Implement simple rules that they can follow and in return, give them praises and treats for obeying the rules. Training your German Sheppit consistently in a positive method will provide you with pet companions that are obedient and good-natured. Puppy socialization has been proven to reduce developing aggressive behaviors, anxiety, and fearfulness later on in their adulthood. You just have to introduce and desensitize your dog to different people and environments. You can try doing the following: Puppy classes Playing at dog-friendly parks Make him attend doggy daycares The above activities ensure that your dog interacts with a range of fellow dogs and people as well on different environments, which may include on and off leash interactions. Include Mental Exercises on Their TrainingThe Pitbull mixed with German Shepherd is an intelligent dog, and they need stimulating mental activities to avoid developing aggressive and other unwanted behaviors. Mental stimulation activities can be in the form of games or puzzles. German Shepherd Pitbull and Families With consistent proper training, exercise and correct socialization, the German Shepherd Pitbulls are incredibly loyal, friendly and affectionate towards family members, making them an excellent choice as a family pet. This crossbreed can even be the perfect breed for children, especially that its parent breed Pitbull was previously known as a nanny dog. Young kids, especially those under 8 years old, may play rough with dogs and they may tire them out or provoke them unknowingly causing the dogs to react in aggressive behaviors. Children should be taught to love and respect all members of the family including your four-legged family companions. This dog loves to spend time with you and other family members. So give love lots of affection to your German Shepherd crossed with Pitbull and expect an unconditional love in return. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. He loves people and though he's teething and tries to nibble on my hand when I pet him, he doesn't ever try to nibble on strangers or neighbors. He has a ton of energy and is very stubborn but he is also very smart. He was potty trained in one week without barely any effort. Rusty craves attention and is kind of difficult to train because of his stubborn personality and he doesn't like to cuddle unfortunately. He loves to play with our 12 year old Lab Retriever mix and he doesn't hurt her at all even though she gets annoyed with him easily. She loves to run and play but she knows when its time to calm down. I think this is the best breed combo. She has become the best dog I have owned. She is smart and protective of her family and home. Her dad is a lb long haired German Shepherd and her mom is a blue brindle Pit Bull. She is a show stopper everywhere we go! Her personality is split between both breeds. She loves to rough house with her best friends and then at the end of the day she likes to sleep under the bed. Such a sweet girl! He was being shown at Petsmart for adoption and they were giving up hope in finding him a home. I went in for cat food and the second I saw him, I knew! He was skinny and stinky, but I looked at my husband and said we're getting this dog! Murray is handsome and happy. He goes camping with us, loves to ride in the car and going to the vet. He's chased many deer, gotten skunked in the face four times and fought raccoons. I've only recently started watching the Dog Whisperer, Cesar Milan and it re-enforces that I've been doing almost everything right in my handling and understanding of my dog. I've learned from Cesar, to claim your space with other dogs, as well as my own, how to stay calm and meet a new dog and how not to let the dog exit or enter a house before you. I knew I wasn't going to be one of those women being dragged down the street by a dog half my weight so from the start, he was trained to walk with me and not pull me. I've used mouth click sounds or a quick tug on his leash and he's quick to follow. He has three long walks everyday, and watching him find his groove and 'prance' is pure joy for him and me. Through being kind and patient, I've shown him that the back scratcher isn't a weapon and the hair dryer isn't as terrifying as he thought. Now he comes to the room for the enjoyment of getting 'blow dried' on the cool setting and affection. Because of Cesar's understanding of dogs, countless people are becoming in tune to the language of a dog. I've noticed only half of the dog walkers around here know how to walk their dog and for the ones that do, their dog's good and polite demeanor is evident in their dog handling. Unlike the tiny terror and his tiny owner- who thinks his insane high pitched barking is friendly. One day, walking out of the woods, the sunset was beautiful and I said "sweet" out loud and Murray stopped, looked back and thought I'd said "treat"! We laughed all the way home! I love my Shepherd Pit mix and I am his proud pack leader!

At Summer's Goldens, we focus on life-long family companions. While we carry many Champion bloodlines, we use careful genetic selection to lower the COI Coefficient Of Inbreeding of our dogs and improve the breed. Lower COI contributes to better long-term health and benefits golden retrievers as a whole. We don't breed just for today; we breed with the future in mind to have healthy, happy golden retrievers for decades to come. We follow the health-testing guidelines of the American Kennel Club and the Golden Retriever Club of America by examining our adult dogs' hips, elbows, eyes, and heart. We only want the finest goldens to become mothers and fathers. We also do genetic testing through Embark , one of the most reputable and thorough genetic companies. By pairing healthy, genetically diverse parents, we provide the best possible conditions for puppies to live long and healthy lives. This is especially important for purebred dogs like golden retrievers. Not only do we focus on health, but we also take extra care to socialize our puppies well. We strive to cultivate friendly personality traits in our Golden Retriever Puppies for sale. High-quality socialization during the first two months of a puppy's life is one of the most critical components of its lifelong development. Socialization provides a strong foundation for emotionally healthy, well-adjusted adult dogs. This is easy to claim but hard to do. There simply is no replacement for quality time spent with puppies. We follow the lead of Dr. Carmen L. Battaglia and start with early neurological stimulation ENS when the puppies are just three days old. We continue thorough socialization until the puppies leave us. This includes exposing our puppies to a variety of different surfaces to walk on; human touch all over their bodies; temperature changes; different sounds like fireworks, doorbells, cats meowing, and car engines; children; baths and nail trims, and more. We want our puppies to be more than just physically healthy; we want them to be mentally and emotionally ready for their future families. You are welcome to read our reviews on Google and Facebook , as well as the Testimonials on our site. Our goal is to improve the breed of golden retrievers and provide outstanding companions for families. Contact us today and experience joy through our golden retrievers! All deposits are non-refundable unless we do not have a puppy for you. Please contact Marta with any questions! Where do our Golden Retrievers live? Check out the state pages devoted to each location where our Golden Retriever adopters live in the Midwest. See individual litter pricing within the puppy questionnaire form below this section as pricing varies on repeat breedings, health history and titles within the pedigree. Dams or sires with titles, pedigree of generations of health tested dogs, genetic clearances, titled dogs, repeat breedings of successful prior litters and so forth may adjust the price upward. Our dogs are carefully selected for breeding, and with the time, care and emphasis on breeding healthy puppies that all comes at a price to us. Not every dog we select with breeding intentions actually makes the "health cut" to breed. The pricing reflects the increasing costs associated with health testing parents, and generally that is also often reflected in using good, health tested stud dogs. If you applied in previous years and are on our accepted wait list, the pricing listed at that time will be honored, unless a suitable pup of their gender selected was offered from a previous litter and then refused by the buyer. This allows the buyer who wasn't able to receive a pup from a previous litter due to not enough pups being whelped to carry forward their deposit and the price does not increase in the subsequent litter to them. The deposit tax will be added to the final billing as deposits do not need to be taxed prior to the litter whelping, due to the potential for refund if no pups are produced. This also allows time to determine the state sales tax location, if pick-up is in Minnesota or shipping to a different state. Minnesota sales tax for picking up at our location is 6. The remaining amount of the purchase price including applicable sales tax , less any deposit made, is due at the time of pick-up or the pup's age of eight weeks, unless other arrangements are agreed upon in advance. The remaining amount for puppies that will be shipped is due by the pup's age of six 6 weeks in order for Floden Farm to make travel arrangements, purchase crate if necessary, and schedule vet travel certification for those pups that will fly. We accept credit, debit or check payments via Paypal's secure site, or payment by check. If paying check by regular mail, we need time for the check to clear. Cash is also acceptable at pick-up. Shipping Options In-Cabin by Breeder or Puppy Nanny Shipping Option While we prefer our clients to visit us in person, either Jenn, a family member, or close friend of ours could serve as a flight nanny for you, if shipping by air is desired. A crate would not be provided with this option as we can reuse the sherpa bag for in-cabin flights. Please inquire more about this option and we can calculate the estimated cost for puppy's flight fee, veterinary travel certification, round trip travel of the nanny, nanny fee, and overnight stay if needed for our flight nanny. Shipping fees are non-refundable and must be paid before the puppy's sixth week of age in order for Floden Farm to have adequate time to make shipping arrangements for your puppy's delivery. At this time, air cargo shipping options are unavailable due to Covid. Should cargo shipping options become available, we would be able to offer that to our clients as well. When making arrangements, be sure to allow time for going back through security if returning the same day. Oftentimes a family will make their visit a trip, flying or driving into Fargo ND or MSP airport, renting a car from airport to Floden Farm and enjoying a hotel and then returning the next afternoon after pick-up. We're happy to help you with finding hotel recommendations in that case. Meet in Minnesota Ground Transportation If you need us to meet you along I in Minnesota, we are happy to do so if schedule permits. We also work full-time jobs on top of our puppy hobby. We would bill round-trip business mileage in that situation. Spaying or neutering is not required, however any offspring produced are not AKC registerable unless the difference in price is paid to change to Full AKC Registration. Both types of AKC registration allow dogs to participate in AKC venues such as hunt testing, field trialing, agility, obedience, and others. At 7 weeks we temperament test the puppies, begin making puppy picks with each buyer, and vet check them. Preference is given to Full AKC Registration buyers, as their extra pricing helps us provide genetic testing for their preferred gender. We don't place breeders in upper picks alone because of breeding. If a breeder also shows or partakes in a performance venue, higher consideration is given to that breeder because they strive to prove their dogs. That said, we are happy to work with new breeders and provide what knowledge we have learned over the years to help them breed quality puppies. The breeder and stud owner always has top choices of any male or female. This is why we continue to breed - to further each generation. Preference is also given to those who have history of competing in AKC venues that will further our parent dogs to Outstanding Dam or Sire by gaining titles. Next preference to those who intend to compete in AKC venues for the same reason. Pet homes are not cull homes. Purchase a pet because of the litter and parents. A highly active competition home may not be the best fit for a pet puppy that may occasionally hunt. At 8 weeks of age puppies are able to go to their new homes. Credit, debit, Venmo , or check payments accepted via Paypal's secure site. As a member of the GoodDog breeder program, we can also accept payment through GoodDog. Deposits are refundable only in the case there are not enough pups produced or if the breeder deems the last pup available is not a suitable fit for temperament or other reasons, such as a health issue with the pup. If you state you are willing to accept a pup of the opposite gender, your deposit will only be refunded if there are not enough pups produced of either gender to satisfy our commitment. This is because your name is placed on each gender wait list in the order of deposits received and provides you with more option when it comes to selection based on temperament and other factors. Please review our 4-year health warranty and paybacks page prior to committing. Please complete the questionnaire below and Floden Farm will email you once your application is approved, invoice you through PayPal if needed for the deposit, and any questions you have will be answered. We require a non-refundable deposit fee due to prior non-commitments in order to reduce our time accepting applications to serious inquiries. All responses are confidential. Please be certain to review our puppy pricing page prior to submitting this questionnaire. If you still have difficulty submitting the questionnaire, contact us at .Upon receipt, we'll answer any questions you may have by email and invoice you for a puppy deposit. You're welcome to call us with any questions, arrange a visit, or we can set up a quick Zoom meeting as well prior to placing your deposit. I understand that my deposit fee is considered non-refundable, unless not enough pups of my preferred gender or not enough pups are produced -- should there be an issue with a pup at vet check Floden Farm would also give me the option of deposit fee back or to be placed on a future wait list. Deposit fees are not taxed in case of a refund situation. Deposit fees become taxable when a puppy is actually purchased and the fee credited to the cost of the puppy. Minnesota state sales tax is required of all puppy sales. I understand if I am picking puppy up I may visit the full litter about weeks of age and that full puppy payment is due at the puppy's eighth 8th week of age or at pickup, whichever is earliest, unless other arrangements are agreed upon. An energetic puppy may be better suited for a an active hunting home, for example, rather than a house in the cities with a family that walks on occasion. You may also want to take this breed match-up quiz to help you decide if a golden retriever is right for you! The questionnaire below also helps us determine which pup may connect well with which client. This questionnaire also serves as a reminder for the work a new pup or dog entails prior to placing your hard-earned deposit. So please consider these details as you complete this application to be placed on our wait list for puppies or adults. Thank you! Full AKC registrations are a decision that will be made on a case by case basis. Puppy selections are made on the day of puppy pick up. We believe this is a very big step for most puppy-parents, so to be fair we want you to have the opportunity to watch all the puppies as they grow bigger and develop their little personalities. Selecting your puppy at eight weeks will also allow you to better identify size and coloration if that is your preference. You will raise your puppy with the confidence it is recognized by the American Kennel Club as a purebred Golden Retriever. As a consumer, you are spending a lot of money on a puppy and there is great value in knowing your breeder has followed all the criteria needed to fulfill the requirements set forth by AKC. This information will be mailed to your home, usually within weeks. Full AKC Registration is exactly the same as the limited registration, with one difference: should you decide, as your puppy gets older, you want to breed it with another fully registered Golden Retriever, you will be able to register the litters with the American Kennel Club. You have found what seems to be an excellent, qualified purebred breeder, but they tell you that there are no papers. Should you continue with the adoption process? Are papers even necessary? If you are wondering how to buy a Retriever without papers, you need to know the facts. This blog will investigate the necessity of papers and how you can successfully buy a great, purebred Retriever without them. Buying a Retriever without papers is not necessarily a bad thing. However, they can help a Retriever to be a show or breeding canine. Take a good look at the dogs to see if they are healthy, happy and display Retriever trademark features. From there, write up a contract, ask for health certifications, and give the dog a DNA test. What Are Papers For? Either the breeder has them, or they do not. But what exactly are these papers? Well, papers are essentially a dog registration. It acts similar to a human birth certificate. On the documents, you will find the name of the parents and the date the dog was born. These papers typically come from the AKC for a low price. Are Papers Necessary for Adoption? You also need to know whether or not papers are even necessary. Technically, there is not an actual need for papers in this circumstance. So, even if a breeder does provide papers and a pedigree for your Retriever, they might not be entirely correct. So what can a future Retriever owner do? Buying Without Papers At this point, it is fairly clear that papers are not the cure-all for buying a purebred dog with confidence. Luckily, there are some other ways to feel confident in purchasing a dog from a breeder. Here are some of the best ways to buy a Retriever without papers. What are these certifications? If your Retriever puppy comes with an OFA and CERF certification, it proves that the owners took the time to have the mother and father dogs checked for certain hereditary problems. There may also be other certifications to confirm the health of the parents. While this does not necessarily prove that your Retriever is purebred, it will give you confidence that your dog is healthy and in good standing. The certifications do not mean that there is no chance that your dog will have these issues in the future, though, especially considering how common hip dysplasia is with Retrievers. Keep this in mind when shopping around for a Retriever. Not only does this kit provide you with the type of dog you own, but it will also show over 35 different traits to expect from your pup. Thoroughly Check Out the Breeder and Puppies The best way to buy a Retriever without papers confidently is to check out the breeder and puppies thoroughly. Here are some of the top tips to add to your check-off list: Understand and seek out the appearance of the breed. Now, puppies will change dramatically from when they are brand new to adulthood. However, there are still some key features a Retriever may have as a puppy, such as short ears and a straight muzzle. Make sure the puppy has these hallmark features. You want to make sure that the puppy is not coming from a puppy mill and is bred in good conditions. Always visit the home. Never buy online or meet outside of the living area. Find out how well-known the breeders are. Breeders known for providing purebred puppies bred in a healthy, safe, and nice environment should be prominent in the community. This is especially true for show dog breeders. Try and find out as much information on the breeder to help boost your confidence in buying. Meet the parents. Check out the environment and the temperament, especially of the mother. Pay attention to the health, environment, and happiness of the puppies. Sign a contract with the breeder. Every arrangement will be different. For example, if a DNA test is done and it turns out the dog is not purebred, then the breeder will need to accept the return with a full refund. Make sure you have reliable contact info for the breeder. The breeder should have information on the health of the pup. They should have info regarding his vaccination status, spay or neuter, etc. This is entirely false. A higher price tag does not always equate to quality. A lot of puppy mills sell their offspring for thousands of dollars simply because they can. That is why it is important to do your research on the breeder and visit the location. Share this:.
We all know cats are typically the fur family members to use a litter box. But what about dogs? Are there any good arguments for litter box training your canine friend? A dog litter box? Or an artificial grass pad? So I rarely advise pet parents to skip this opportunity. That said, there are a few instances when using a dog litter box is preferable. Is it right for your dog? This is especially true if you have a small dog, or tiny tinkler as I call them, since they often have more difficulty holding their urine than bigger dogs. This leads to more accidents in the house and bigger frustrations, which puts a damper on your relationship. I wrote an entirely different article that goes into more detail about why your dog is peeing in the house. But if you live in an area that sees several feet of snow or is primarily paved and gets very hot, an indoor dog litter box might actually be safer for your pet. You or Your Dog Have Mobility Issues If you or your dog have mobility issues, dog litter box training might be a good idea. Some companies, like doggybathroom. All you need to do is change out the pads and keep the inside clean. This can be a good option for medium-sized dogs that raise their leg to pee. The downside is the cost. The pee pads are disposable and will need to be replaced frequently. If you want to use dog litter, the sides of the litter box should be low enough for your dog to easily step over but high enough to contain the litter. Now what about artificial grass pads? The initial investment for a grass pad like this one is minimal. Can Dogs Use Cat Litter? Yes, technically, dogs can use cat litter. However, cat litter can be harmful if ingested, which is a risk since our canine friends are known to eat strange things from time to time. Dog litter typically consists of larger, more absorbent pellets, which are safer if ingested. Some are also made with recycled material, like wood or paper. Pin me! Whether you choose a litter box or a grass pad, will your dog really use it? This is the million doggie bone question. Can pet parents actually get their pups to use a dog litter box? In many cases, the answer is yes, you can. Trying to contain a Bull Mastiff in a box while they do their business would be quite a feat! And large dogs tend to raise their leg to pee, so the sides of the dog litter box would have to be very high to avoid soaking surrounding objects. Step 1: Find the Right Spot When house training dogs, we usually bring them outside. Do this by getting a paper towel or pee pad containing a little of their urine and placing it where you want them to go. Step 3: Praise Them for Using the Right Spot Again, just as you would do if training a dog to go outside, be sure to give them lots of praise and some training treats when they do their business in the right spot. But with time, your dog will understand how to use their new pee spot. And of course, you want your home to be sanitary. Consider Using Deodorizing Litter Cats have famously used litter boxes for a long time, so pet product manufacturers have developed many unique products that absorb pee effectively and suppress odor. By offering your old dog accessible litter boxes, you can almost eliminate the possibility of accidents, all while empowering your aging dog. By giving your dog a huge amount of praise and an immediate reward, you can override any other thoughts they may have, like a compulsion to mark. Watch for Digging or Coprophagia Dog owners encounter some of the most common issues when litter box training their dogs are digging and coprophagia. Unfortunately, the best way to address these issues is using a different potty training method. Buy a Litter Box With High Sides To avoid accidental spills, you should consider buying a litter box made of sturdy material with high sides. These prevent spills with male dogs since they can block any splashing. A flat litter box tray has drawbacks but is significantly better for large dogs. Generally, you will have an easier time litter box training a smaller dog, as a large dog will have difficulty containing their mess in a cat litter box that is entirely too small for their body. If you are set on litter box training a large dog, you will need to get creative with what you use as the litter box itself — using a large metal tray or a shallow plastic storage bin may be your best bet! A small dog can use a standard large litter box and keep the mess in the potty area. High sided litter box, intened for dog use 4. While litter box training a dog is not for everyone, you can teach your dog how to use one with persistence, treats, and positive reinforcement! How useful was this post? Click on a star to rate it! Play Fetch: This is a classic outdoor game that is great to do in summer. Challenge your dog by putting a twist to the activity, you can either use a Frisbee or a tennis racquet to make the object travel farther for your Golden Labrador to retrieve and return back to you. The best way to teach your Goldador not to bark is to socialize them frequently with strangers. Use Positive Reinforcement The Labrador crossed with Golden Retriever is a sensitive type of dog, so training them using positive reinforcement will be very helpful. It is extremely friendly and affectionate. The Goldador is the type of dog that goes well in a loving and active family — one that considers him as a family member. However, due to their sheer size, supervision is still needed around toddlers and infants. The Goldadors makes an excellent therapy and companion dog. Because of their affectionate nature, they generally do well when given lots of attention and affection. Finally it is recommended to check the ears regularly and trim nails as needed. Adopted Golden Labrador Retriever Puppies. Life Span Did You Know? The Golden Labrador is a designer dog breed that originated in the United States. They are a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Labrador Retriever. The goal was to combine these two highly popular breeds to create a dog that exhibits the best traits from both of them. A mixed dog breed can take after one parent breed more than the other or any combination of traits from the parent breeds. This can result in some variation among individual puppies. But, overall, a Golden Labrador is friendly, intelligent, energetic, and affectionate. Although this mixed breed is not recognized by the American Kennel Club, they are recognized by other notable organizations like the American Canine Hybrid Club and more. This large designer breed is characterized by their energetic personality and friendly disposition. Both of the parent breeds in this cross are open, friendly, and affectionate, so you can expect the same in your Golden Labrador puppy. They are very playful and get along fabulously with children, other dogs, and other pets. They may be alert enough to be a good watchdog, but they do not make good guard dogs. They are instinctually more interested in making new friends and getting attention than they are with anything else. They can have a slight prey drive, but most of the time, they are just curious and interested in playing and making friends. The Golden Labrador is a moderately adaptable dog breed. Their large size and energy tend to make them a better fit for larger homes with room to run. They can adapt well to apartment living as long as they are given enough exercise and mental stimulation. But, small spaces can be a challenge because they are large dogs that are so playful and energetic. Golden Labradors do well in just about any climate. As with most dog breeds, they are sensitive to heat and extreme cold. Because they love their families, thrive on attention, and get bored easily, they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. As a mixed breed, a Golden Labrador can inherit the potential health conditions of one or both of the parent breeds. Although the Golden Labrador is a relatively healthy dog breed, there are some potential health conditions to be aware of. These include eye problems like progressive retinal atrophy and joint issues common to large dogs like patellar luxation and hip dysplasia. Like their parent breeds, the Golden Labrador can be prone to weight gain, which does put them at risk of diabetes later in life. Reputable breeders will screen their stock to ensure genetic conditions are not being passed on to puppies. Regular vet visits, proper nutrition, and sufficient exercise can help keep your dog healthy and reduce preventable diseases. Both of the parent breeds in this cross are highly intelligent and highly trainable, so the Golden Labrador should be no different. Eager to please their owners, these dogs pick up on things quickly and respond best to positive training methods focused on praise and reward. This dog breed, like both of the parent breeds, is a great fit for owners of all experience levels, including first-time dog owners. Their high energy can sometimes be a challenge, so you may want to consider puppy training and obedience classes. This designer dog breed may be called a Golden Labrador, but they can show up in many colors. A cream, yellow, or golden coat may be the most common, but a Golden Labrador can also have a black, red, or brown coat. It tends to be a dense double coat that is short or medium in length. This dog breed will shed moderately year-round with heavier shedding sessions twice a year as the seasons change. During seasonal changes, you may want to increase to daily brushing. Not only will this make your dog more comfortable, but it will also decrease the amount of loose fur that ends up around your house. In addition to coat care, you will also need to handle nail, ear, and dental care for your Golden Labrador. Floppy ears tend to trap more dirt, moisture, and debris, which makes them more prone to developing ear infections than ears that stick straight up. Unfortunately, this is often overlooked, which is why gum disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. Beyond that, you can use vet-approved dental hygiene chews and treats and even a specially-formulated dental care diet to supplement your efforts. Getting them used to it early and keeping it a positive experience can make grooming a lot easier as your puppy grows into a big dog! Plus, it can become a bonding experience that your dog looks forward to. Golden Labradors are high-energy dogs. Daily walks, playtime, and some extra activity are generally enough for this dog to stay happy and healthy. But, they will probably tire out before you do! Their friendly nature makes the Golden Labrador a great fit for trips to the dog park. Try teaching your dog how to play frisbee. With their retriever background, it could become one of their favorite activities. You can also train your Golden Labrador for several dog sports like agility, dock diving, obedience, and more. A fully-grown Golden Labrador usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between pounds. A Golden Labrador generally lives years. Although Golden Labrador is the most popular name for this designer dog breed, they are also sometimes referred to as a Goldador or a Goldador Retriever. Featured Golden Labrador Article.
Dilated pupils Stupor or coma Hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar, can quickly become an urgent health problem in toy and small-breed dogs, say experts. Without intervention, there is risk of dogs slipping into a coma and possibly dying. Juvenile hypoglycemia, which is seen in puppies less than 3 months of age, generally occurs because puppies have not fully developed the ability to regulate blood glucose concentration and have a high requirement for glucose. In toy and small-breed dogs that timeframe is greatly reduced when compared to larger dogs. A simple case of hypoglycemia is often due to overactivity combined with too much time between meals. Providing a simple sugar solution and hydrating liquid are key. I shake it out and wrap the puppy in it to bring up his body temperature. If the puppy seems to be getting better, I follow up by giving small amounts of warm sugar water over the next few minutes. A high-quality, nutritious dog food is important in helping to sustain a dog. Owners also should provide a warm environment. As a responsible pet owner, it is essential to ensure your Frenchie has the right sized crate to ensure their comfort and safety. Once you have determined the right size, you will then need to decide between a metal wire cage or a plastic crate. After you have identified the right size and type, you are ready to start crate training. Preparing the crate, introducing the crate, and following the crate training basics will help you and your Frenchie get off to the right start. What is a French Bulldog? Are you considering adding a French Bulldog to your family? They are known for being loyal, playful, and affectionate companions. They make excellent family pets, and their size makes them a great choice for those living in apartments or condos. Look for crates that are made from high-quality materials that are designed to provide adequate ventilation and provide your pup with plenty of space to move around. Make sure the crate is easy to clean and has a secure latch. Start slowly and gradually increase the amount of time your pup spends in the crate. Provide plenty of positive reinforcement and rewards when they stay in the crate. Not only does it help to keep your pup safe and secure, but it also ensures that your pup is getting enough rest and keeping out of trouble. Having a designated place to go when you need some alone time or when you need to run out for a few hours also helps to create a sense of security for your pup. Crate training helps to establish good behavior and can be used as a form of reward when your pup has been good. Crating also prevents destructive behavior, such as chewing and digging, which can help to save your furniture and other belongings. When selecting a crate for your Frenchie, be sure to consider the size of your pup. Remember that they should have enough room to turn around and stretch out, while still feeling secure. Pay attention to the height and width of the crate, as well as the material it is made from. Consider whether or not you will be taking your pup on trips with you, as some crates are designed for travel. Getting the right size of crate is essential, as it can help make crate training successful, as well as ensuring your Frenchie feels comfortable, secure, and safe. An Essential Guide for Pet Owners To start, measure your pup from the tip of their nose all the way to the tip of their tail while they are in a standing position, and add around four inches to that number. When it comes to finding the right type of crate, your best bet is to look for metal wire cages or plastic crates. Metal wire cages are the most popular, as they provide plenty of ventilation and are very durable. Plastic crates are also a good option, as they provide more privacy for your pup, making them feel more secure. Whichever you choose, make sure it has a floor tray and enough room for your pup to stand up, turn around, and lie down comfortably. Make sure the crate is tall enough for your pup to stand up and turn around in easily. With the right crate, your Frenchie will be able to relax and get the rest they need. Crate Types When it comes to crates for French Bulldogs, there are two types to choose from: metal wire cages and plastic crates. Metal wire cages are lightweight, easy to clean, and usually come with removable floor trays or divider panels. Plastic crates, on the other hand, are heavier and durable, but they are not as ventilated as metal wire cages, so they may not be ideal if your Frenchie is prone to overheating. Plastic crates come in a variety of sizes and can usually be folded down for transport or storage. Crates that are too small can be uncomfortable and cause anxiety for your pup, while those that are too large can encourage your pup to eliminate in one corner and sleep in the other. The best way to determine what size crate your Frenchie needs is to measure their length from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail and their height from the floor to the top of the shoulders. Choose a crate with a removable bottom tray for easy cleanup. Another important factor to consider when choosing a wire cage for your Frenchie is bar spacing. If the bars are too far apart, your pup could escape or get stuck. Consider adding a divider panel to the cage. This will give them the comfort and security they need while ensuring the crate is large enough for when they reach their full size. Plastic Crates Plastic crates can be a great option for French Bulldogs as they offer more privacy and security than metal wire cages. They are also more lightweight which makes them perfect for transport and mobility. They can keep your pet calm, secure, and safe while you are out of the house. Just make sure to measure your Frenchie before you buy the crate to ensure that you get the right size. For the best results, it is recommended that you introduce your Frenchie to the plastic crate slowly. Let your pup get used to the crate by allowing them to explore and sniff around it. You can also place some treats and toys inside the crate to make it more comfortable and inviting. Make sure to reward your Frenchie every time they go in the crate — this will help to build positive associations. With some patience and consistency, your Frenchie will soon be comfortable in their new plastic crate. Crate Training Tips Crate training your French Bulldog is a great way to ensure their safety and comfort. Knowing the size of the crate that your pup needs is essential, as too large of a crate can be overwhelming, and too small of a crate can be constricting. To make it inviting, add a comfortable bed and some toys. If your pup has trouble transitioning, try a food puzzle or two inside the crate to occupy their time and make it fun. Make sure to provide plenty of positive reinforcement when your pup enters their crate. Over time, they should start to associate it as a happy place. Preparing the Crate Before introducing your Frenchie to their new crate, you need to prepare it properly. Start by lining the bottom with a soft bed or blanket. You can also add a toy or two for your pup to play with, as well as enough room for food and water dishes. Introduce your Frenchie to their crate gradually and give them treats to help associate the crate with positive reinforcement. If your pup is particularly anxious, you may want to consider using calming aids such as pheromone sprays or diffusers. With patience and positive reinforcement, your Frenchie will soon feel comfortable and secure in their crate. Start by making the crate inviting for your pup. Try to make it a relaxing and comfortable area for your dog to escape to. Be sure to give your Frenchie plenty of praise when they enter the crate. You can offer treats and verbal encouragement to reward them for going into the crate. Doing so will help your pup create a positive association with the crate. If they seem scared or overwhelmed, let them out and try again later. With patience and practice, your Frenchie will eventually love their crate and use it as their own safe space. Crate Training Basics Crate training your French Bulldog can be a great way to ensure your pup is safe and secure in your home. Introduce them to the crate slowly and make sure they have a positive experience. Start by leaving the door open and allowing them to explore as they please. Once they are comfortable, you can start closing the door for short periods of time and rewarding them with treats when they stay inside. Gradually extend the time they spend in the crate until they are happy to stay in it for longer periods. This will help them acclimate to the crate and make them more comfortable in it. The key to successful crate training is consistency and patience. With a little bit of effort, your pup will not only be crate trained, but also be comfortable and relaxed in their crate. Even when staying at home, a comfortable crate can provide a cozy corner for your pooch. When choosing a French Bulldog crate size , know that they are usually on the smaller side of the breed spectrum. A standard inch crate is not recommended for adult French Bulldogs since they can easily outgrow it, making them feel cramped and uncomfortable. Instead, look for inch crates or more significant to give your fluffy more room. French Bulldog crate size is usually smaller than the English or American Bulldog crate size. The reason is the body sizes of each dog breed , respectively. There should be enough room for your Frenchie to move around a little, but not too much. Your Frenchie should be comfortable moving about swiftly in its crate without the need to squat or crouch. The crate is too small if it reaches his head at the top of the crate. He should be able to spread his legs without touching the walls while lying on his side. You should be careful about buying a crate that is too big if you want your Frenchie to have enough space inside. Your dog should not have any extra room inside the crate. Too much room may have a detrimental impact on how effective the crate is for your French Bulldog as a training device. He might end up using one corner as a toilet if the crate is too big, which defeats the intent of it as a home training tool. The crate should provide a sense of protection and comfort for your Frenchie. A crate with too much room will prevent the sense of protection from being reached by your dog. This will help you decide on a good starting point for crate size. Measure the length of your Frenchie from nose to tail, then add an additional 3 inches for optimal comfort and maneuverability inside the crate. Determine the ideal crate height that will allow your pup to stand up and turn around comfortably inside the crate, as well as sit in a comfortable position with the head elevated out of the crate. An adult French Bulldog needs a larger crate of inches long, inches wide, and inches high. A cozy bed in the bottom of the crate and a warm blanket are nice additions if your Frenchie likes to snuggle up. Also, check for any openings or spaces that may be large enough for your French Bulldog to get out of. Getting the right crate is an important part of preparing a safe and comfortable home for your French Bulldog. Choose wisely to make sure your pup stays safe and happy! This involves purchasing two or more crates of different sizes and using them in combination. For example, you can buy an adult-sized crate for your Frenchie and then purchase a smaller puppy-sized crate that fits inside the bigger one. By using the two crates in tandem, you can slowly transition your pup from the smaller crate to the larger one as they grow. Plus, having a bigger and roomier adult-sized crate gives your pup plenty of room to stretch out and relax. These types of crates come with adjustable walls that can be moved to suit the size of your Frenchie. Plus, customizable crates are great for those who want to keep their pup in one place at all times and provide them with plenty of room to move. With a little bit of research and planning, you can find the perfect French Bulldog crate size that will keep your pup safe and comfortable for years to come. The general rule of thumb is to get a crate that is big enough for your dog to stand up, turn around, and lie down comfortably. This will help to keep them occupied and distracted from the fact that they are in a confined space. Cover the Crate. It can be a useful training tool and calm their anxiety. How do you find the best crate for your French Bulldog? Dogs are naturally denning animals and enjoy small spaces. Providing your French Bulldog with the proper size crate will give them a peaceful, quiet place for them to call home. It can be helpful when training them and keeping them secure when you are away from home. Below we will look at everything you need to know to pick out the right crate for your French Bulldog. What size crate do French Bulldogs need? Picking the best size crate for your French Bulldog is important. It needs to be comfortable for them but not too large. They should be able to turn around, stand and sit up without the need to duck under the top of the crate. The crate is too small if there is not enough room for their head. They should have room to lie down without hitting the walls. The crate should not be too large, either. There should not be an overabundance of space inside the crate. If the crate is too large, it can negatively affect any crate training. They could also use it as a bathroom. That would negatively impact its ability as a training tool. The crate should allow them to feel secure without having too much space. Measuring your French Bulldog for a Crate To pick the proper size crate for your French Bulldog, you will need to measure the length and height of your dog. Marking their height and length on a wall may be easier than fumbling with a tape measure while trying to get them to hold still. Using a treat can also help keep them in place long enough to make your marks. Use chalk or a similar marking device that can be cleaned off easily. When your dog is standing on all four paws next to your wall, mark his nose and the base of the tail to record the length. To capture the height, your dog will need to be in a seated position. Place a mark on the top of their ears to get the distance needed for the height of the cage. Once you have your marks, you can measure the distances with the tape measure. The length and height do not have to be accurate. You will need to add a few inches to the measurements to ensure your French Bulldog will have the room needed to move around inside the cage. As your French Bulldog puppy matures and grows, the crate will become too small for them. If you can, you can replace the crate as they get larger as they mature. When they reach adulthood, you will not need to replace the crate again; it will be their permanent home. You can also use the option to buy an adult-size crate when they are still a puppy and use dividers to keep the size of the crate comfortable without being too large. As they grow, you can move the dividers to resize the crate to keep it comfortable for your dog. Metal Wire Crate: These are the most popular dog crates available. Amazon Then add a few inches to the length so the bulldog can travel through the room comfortably. The French bulldogs should have a little extra room so they can walk, change the bed, and feel cozy. You can also shop for a large-sized dog crate with a divider panel so you can keep the pup in the right space and increase the room according to the growth of the puppies. So get the length and height of your puppy and choose the crate that matches the size. But remember, the puppy grows too fast and the crate will get too small too quickly. Therefore, we recommend you spend less money on the first gate. For adult bulldogs, you should only invest in the crates for longer use. What crate size for an australian shepherd? Purchase A Customizable Crate The size of the bulldog as a puppy is far different from the full-grown adult size. So the pet needs a smaller crate than the adult. Crate training your dog can be very useful for you as well as your Frenchie. You can compare crate training to a cradle for a baby. A dog who has a crate they love is a safe haven for them, just like a cradle is for a baby. Crate training your dog may or may not be an easy task. Either way, a step-by-step plan can only be helpful. And, if followed, will make the end goal easier to reach. Many pet parents feel guilty or unsure about crate training, and understandably so. However, crate training is beneficial for your furry family member and can be a great thing. Your puppy will learn that their crate is their space and where they will rest, so they will want to wait to use the restroom when they are outside. Separation Anxiety Many dogs suffer from anxiety when left alone. This is not uncommon. While being put in a crate can add to their anxiety or stress, their crate can be helpful if it becomes their safe haven and a spot that makes them feel safe. Emergency Use Crate training your dog can lend to be very helpful in case of an emergency. If there is ever a situation where you must evacuate your home or go to a place where a crate is required, having a Frenchie who happily goes into their crate can keep this situation safe and smooth. Another emergency you could face with your dog is surgery on their part or yours. For their or your recovery, being able to have them in their crate is extremely helpful. For Convenience Crate training your dog really helps when it comes to daily life. There are often times when putting your sweet Frenchie away simply makes life easier. These times may include when guests come over for dinner, when fireworks are happening outside, a friend brings their pet over, you have errands to run, etc. A crate not only relieves stress or anxiety your dog may experience when daily life is altered a bit, but it can also help you. Senior Dogs Senior dogs who have been crate-trained will benefit greatly. Older dogs can use their crate as a space to get extra rest. Senior dogs will also like their crate when they no longer have the energy to entertain big groups or children. Crate Options Once you decide that crate training your dog is the right move to make, choosing the best crate will depend on several factors. There are many different crate options depending on your Frenchies size, activity level, and your future plans with the crate. Making sure you select the right crate can make all the difference in creating a comfortable, safe spot for your dog to feel at home. Size Crates come in varying sizes, usually about 20 inches to 48 inches. The ideal size of a crate depends on the size of your dog. Most Frenchies are medium-sized, so a medium-sized crate would be good. The intention is that once your dog is fully grown, they will be able to stretch out and sit up straight in their crate. Before puppies are full-grown, use the divider panel that comes with the crate to expand the crate size as needed. When purchasing a crate, look at the size chart to make the best choice. Crate Types There are three different types of crates: the wire crate, the fabric travel crate, and the plastic travel crate. They are each different. Wire crate A wire crate is the most popular option when crate training your dog. Customer support team based in Indiana We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you. It is easy to set up and take with you and is intended for travel as they are lightweight and easy to carry. These crates can easily be chewed on, so they may not be suitable for puppies or any Frenchie that has a habit of chewing. Plastic Travel Crate A plastic travel crate is more robust than the previous two mentioned. It is made of plastic and is also used for travel since it remains set up and is easy to carry. This may be a better option than the fabric crate if you need to transport your dog. They are also easy enough to carry, and your Frenchie is not as easily able to chew them. Some people use these as fixed crates at home, but they are more enclosed than the wire crate. This makes it less desirable for many dogs and owners. Doggy Playpen A playpen is a route some pet owners like to take as opposed to or in addition to crate training your dog. A playpen allows your Frenchie more room for walking around and playing. Playpen Versus Crate Like a crate, a playpen contains your dog in one space. The biggest difference is their size. You may decide to use one over the other depending on your needs. Playpens typically come in two different materials: metal and fabric. The metal playpen is similar to a metal crate, only bigger. Playpen Use: Contain your dog to an area, but give them room to play. You need to leave your dog for a full day more than hours. Your dog prefers a larger space. Crate Use: Contain your dog to a smaller area sometimes makes them feel safer. Sleeptime may go better in a crate. Transportation to another place. You will train your dog to happily go into their playpen as you do the crate treats, slowly increase time, make it a fun space. Having both would allow your pup to have a confined space for sleeping the crate and a bigger area for when they are ready to walk around and play the playpen. You can choose to set the two up in separate places, using each for different purposes and at different times. You can also set the two up together where the crate will open into the playpen. This option would be used with a metal playpen. Of course, this setup will require more space. You could use the following to do so. Bed or Crate Pad A crate pad fits more precisely into a crate than a standard dog bed. Get one that is sturdy and difficult for them to chew, like this chew-resistant pad. Durable crate pads can be pricey, but it beats buying several fluffy, easy-to-chew ones. I like to buy dog pads that have a zip-off cover, making them easier to wash. Your dog will love to cuddle up in this dog bed. This is one tough dog bed. We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you. Chew Toys Chewing can be calming for dogs and gives them something to do while they are in their crate. As mentioned before, providing chew toys will also prevent them from chewing their crate pad. Choosing appropriate toys for your dog is important. Make sure that your Frenchie cannot tear and eat pieces of the chew toy and that it is not too small for them. A chewable stick is a good option. If you have a puppy, you should not leave them in their crate for too long and they also are unable to hold their bladder for too long. In this case, refrain from leaving them water. An option for leaving water in the crate without it becoming a mess is to purchase a snap bowl that easily connects to the side of a wire crate. A regular water and food bowl can be left in the playpen if you leave for an extended amount of time. This can be done with adult dogs, not puppies who need to relieve themselves often. A Possible Step-by-Step Plan for Training Crate training your dog requires a lot of preparation and training, as you may know now. This is only a guide. You know your Frenchie and your situation best, so always do what works for both of you. This plan could also be used for a playpen with alterations where needed. Days Set the crate up and keep the door open for several days. Place a couple of toys and treats in the crate. Place their meal in the crate at times. Allow your Frenchie to choose when they are curious enough to go in the crate. Allow them to explore and find the treats on their own time. Do not shut the door during this time. Shut the door for just a moment while they are in the crate. Stay there and open the door right back up. Increase the length of time, but stay in sight. Days If your dog has responded well to the door closing while you are visible, try closing the door and leaving the room. Start out small and increase the time. Always open the door if they do not respond well. When your dog is able to stay in the crate while you are not visible, try leaving home for just a short time or even stepping outside. Increase this over time. Helping Your Dog Like the Crate In order to ensure that crate training your dog is successful, you want to help your dog like their crate. To do this, it should be a positive experience for them. There are ways to achieve this. Make it comfortable with a crate pad. Give them safe toys to chew on. Before you start to use the crate with the door closed, have the door open for some time, allowing them to go in and out as they please and not make a big deal of it. When you do begin to shut the door, start small by only leaving them in there for a few minutes and slowly increase that time. As mentioned, treats are important for helping your dog feel good about being in the crate. You can use treats to train your dog to go into their crate on their own eventually. Practice this many times before leaving them alone in their crate. Keep training sessions short and repeat them up to several times a day. Tire your dog out by playing with it or walking it before putting them in the crate to help them reach calmness and possibly a level of tiredness that will help them sleep. Length of Time in Crate Once you have trained your dog to freely go into the crate, it is time to try leaving them in the crate for an extended period of time. When you first leave your Frenchie alone in the shut crate, leave home for just a couple of minutes. You can simply go outside your front door to do this. When you return, give a treat and lots of praise. Slowly increase the time they are left in there while you are gone. Puppies should not stay in the crate for more than a couple of hours because they will not have access to water and also use the bathroom more frequently. Once your puppy is older, approximately 6 months, they can stay in the crate for several hours. All dogs are different, and as a pet parent, you should be able to determine how often your dog needs to use the bathroom. If you need to be gone for a full workday, come home on a break, or have a dog sitter let your Frenchie relieve itself at a minimum. Or, you can use the playpen at this time if you have one and your dog is older. There is a very good chance that your Frenchie will whine in the crate. If this happens, you should let your dog out. Maybe you could go on a walk, play together for a bit, or give them a potty break. Then, try again. Otherwise, try to get them to go in peacefully using treats and toys. Provide different or new toys that may pique their interest and distract your dog. If your dog does use the bathroom in their crate, there is likely an issue you resolve. Make their space smaller using the divider that comes with the crate. Use a special cleaner to rid of the smell since dogs often remark the same spots. Give them time to relieve themselves outside right before they go into the crate. Leave them in the crate for a shorter time. Is it Worth It? Most would say yes! Crate training your dog can seem like a lot of work, but all good things do, right? While it takes time and patience, having a Frenchie that can successfully use a crate can really come in handy. As always, your vet can help. Not only can crate training your dog help you as a dog parent, but it also helps your Frenchie in many ways when it comes to their happiness and safety. Best Soft French Bulldog crate — 2PET Foldable Dog crate I do go in depth on each of these down below so keep reading if you want more insights on each of these various dog crate options. Your French Bulldog should be able to turn around easily and sit up without having to crouch. If it is hitting his head on the top of the crate it is too small. You will also want to make sure your French Bulldog has ample leg room in the crate. He should also be able to stretch out his legs when lying on his side without hitting the walls. While you want the crate to be big enough for your Frenchie you will want to be careful about buying a crate that is too large. Too much space can negatively affect how useful the crate is as a training tool for your French Bulldog. If the crate is too big he could end up using one corner as a bathroom which defeats the purpose of it as a house training tool. The crate should give your Frenchie a feeling of safety and security. A crate with too much space will prevent your dog from achieving that sense of security. So, what size dog crate do you need for your Frenchie? Pro tip: having some treats available during this process can help make this go more smoothly. One way to do this is to have your French bulldog stand in the corner of a room with his backside against one wall. This way, you can mark the height and length measurements and get out the measuring tape after. French Bulldog crate Size — Measuring the Length of Your French Bulldog To accurately measure the length of your Frenchie, get him standing on all four paws and measure from the base of the tail to the very tip of his nose. Next, add a couple of inches to the length measurement which will allow him plenty of moving around space. Having a little extra space to move around, adjust his bed, and make himself comfortable is a good idea. Measure his height in this upright position from the floor to the tallest point of his big pointing Frenchie ears their big ears need room too! The length and height numbers you have come up with should give you your target crate size for your French Bulldog. You really have two options when it comes to getting a crate for your French Bulldog puppy. Get the height and length numbers for your puppy and get a crate that fits his dimensions. Just understand that your Frenchie pup will grow fast so the crate will quickly become too small. Once he reaches adult size, you can invest in a more expensive crate that will suit his needs into adulthood. The crate he will need during puppyhood will be much smaller than what he will need as an adult. It would take repeated investment and different crate sizes to keep as your puppy grows. Here are six popular options you can choose from. Metal Wire Dog crate — The metal wire dog crate is by far the most popular option. They are durable, they can be folded up for easier transport, they can be stored away, they can be set up easily, they can be cleaned fairly easily, and best of all they are affordable. For most Frenchies this option should be more than adequate if you just plan to leave the crate at home. While these metal wire dog crates are the most popular, you may get the following types of crates for the following main features and uses. Foldable Soft Dog Crate — When I first met my Frenchie puppy the Breeder I bought him from showed up with my little guy and his siblings packed inside one of these soft dog crates. The biggest benefit of soft crates is how portable they are. This crate is much easier to transport your Frenchie in than its metal counterpart. This is likely the best pet carrier for French Bulldog around town in your vehicle as well as for vacations and trips. These are also very affordable crates. In addition, it is easy to clean, and easy to collapse down. They are made of a soft fabric, have a thin metal frame, and come in some attractive designs. Decorative Wooden Dog Crate — This style of dog crate looks and functions as furniture while also being a dog crate too. They of course purely indoor crates. They can come in a style of an end table, night stand and more. There are many different brands each varying in colors, size, and shape so you can match it with your interior design. Wood end tables are the most common wooden dog crates but I have a friend who has a night table version for her Frenchie. Plastic Dog Crate — This is a very popular option as well and many people get plastic dog crates like these as travel carriers. This can help make the transport of your Frenchie to and from the vet easy for you. If you ever plan to fly on an airplane you can get an airline approved plastic crate as checked baggage pet crate transport. Plastic dog crates like these are lightweight. Heavy Steel Dog Crate — Made of a heavier thicker steel then the metal wire crates. This style of crate is really designed for chewers, scratchers and escape artist dogs. As you can see there are many styles of dog crates and the best crate for you depends on your needs. The intended uses and where you are going to use the crate will influence which type of crate to invest in. How long you can leave your French Bulldog in a crate? It really depends on how old your French Bulldog is. The rule of thumb my dog trainer told me is that, a puppy can hold their bladder one hour for every month of age. For example, if your puppy is three months old, they can hold it for about three hours. Now, if you have a trained adult French Bulldog can use its cage like a den. It can be in crate for overnight or up to 6 or 7 hours a day. French Bulldogs are prone to separation anxiety so if possible try not to leave your little guy alone for too long. One Simple Way To Make Your New Frenchie Puppy More Comfortable In His crate When you go pick up your French Bulldog puppy from the breeder you will be very excited but you must understand your new puppy will be somewhat stressed being separated from his mother and siblings. When we visited our breeder we saw that our little Frenchie slept in a pig pile with all of his other siblings. We picked up our Frenchie in the middle of Winter here in New Hampshire and our bedroom floor where we had the crate was somewhat cold. On top of putting a crate pad in there, putting some dog blankets in there, one other thing we did for our little puppy when we picked him up was to get him a heat pad. They even have electric heat pads for dog crates now. A simple little head pad like this can go a long way to help keep your Frenchie warm, feel less stress after being removed from his siblings, and sleep well at night. The Many Benefits of Owning a Dog crate There are a lot of great reasons to use a crate and its beneficial for both you and your Frenchie. Initially, the idea of using a crate may seem somewhat unpleasant due to its enclosed structure, but it can be very beneficial in training your Frenchie. If you want a secure personal space for your dog, then a crate is best to use. Below are some of the most common benefits of a dog crate for your consideration. Offer Your Frenchie Safety Whether the dog crate will be used at your house, transporting your dog in your vehicle, or even with you on a vacation, it will first and foremost be a safe place for your dog. As much of a disappointment that might be it is quite normal and something all French Bulldog owners must deal with. A good crate will offer complete security due to their double locking system and this can help keep your dog safe. A crate can also help keep your Frenchie away from substances that might be bad for his health. Judicious use of the crate can prevent them from swallowing poisonous or dangerous substances. Keeping your little guy in a crate will help keep them protected and secured. A crate for your Frenchie can be used as a house training tool A crate is useful tool to help control the environment of a puppy to assist with house training. Our dog trainer had us start crate training our little Frenchie as early 8 weeks of age. All dogs are born with a natural inclination to keep their pee and poop out of the den that they sleep in. When you first start crate training, try to keep your Frenchie in the crate for short duration and do everything you can to make it a positive experience. The crate can help your Frenchie puppy bladder control by holding it in, even when they are inside. You must understand, once you take them out of the crate, they will instantly need to go to the bathroom. The crate should be a valuable tool to will assist you in their potty training and they will soon learn to keep their cages clean. A properly sized kennel can encourage your Frenchie not to muddle the place, where he stands or sleeps. Moreover, puppy also learns to control his discharge, in case of emergency situations. In this way, pet owners can get a huge benefit of litter training. Here is a short video with some great puppy crate training tips: 3. The crate should be a place of peace for your Frenchie After a busy day of playing, sleeping, eating, and playing some more they will need a peaceful place to relax. The crate will provide soothing feeling to your French Bulldog and soon he will become accustomed to this environment and associate it with relaxation. Be sure to never use the crate as punishment. By treating the crate as a comfortable bed to your pup, he will search for his crate whenever he is tired and in need of rest. As his owner you must be sure to keep his crate safe and peaceful. The crate should be his own personal space, where your beloved friend can go to relax. I have some other French Bulldog crate training tips here. Have crate — will travel Not all French bulldogs enjoy traveling in your vehicle although mine loves it! Another worthy mention is that travel in a car unrestrained can be dangerous for your Frenchie. A sudden stop could turn them into a projectile. To keep your dog relaxed and calm while you are in transit it is recommended to carry them in a crate. There are many different French Bulldog travel crates on the market that are highly portable. Many can easily be folded down into a very portable handbag. Travel crates like this can provide a safe and comfortable environment for your Frenchie anywhere. The see through panels on the top and side allow you to monitor your Frenchie and make sure they are doing ok on their road trip. Protect them during injury or illness If your Frenchie ever gets injured or sick, then a crate may help to protect them from further injury. This comfortable safe-haven can help soothe your little dog to help them recover. A Frenchie may need some protection from their self if they ever do suffer from an injury. Without protection some of their actions can increase his pain and slow recovery. A secure crate you can protect him against making it worse by restricting his movements. In turn, as the proud Frenchie parent you will also feel relieved when your wounded or sick pup will be kept in a risk-free and protected environment. This is the crate we personally use for our little Augie and he loves it. It has wire vents on the front, sides, and back. Looking at the reviews for this crate you can fly with it after some modifications have been made but that will take some further investigation with your airline to determine the exact current FAA laws. Durable plastic shell, non-corrodible wing-nuts, extra strong steel wire, and interlocking door provide heavy-duty protection. We wanted to make certain our French Bulldog had plenty of fresh air. The fact that it is made with recycled materials is a bonus! We wrap this padded bed with a couple small dog blankets for easy cleaning and to make it even cozier. We found the 31 x 23 inch pad fit perfectly into our crate and gave him a cozy bed to sleep on inside. In addition to the pet pad, we got a tip from the dog trainer to help our Frenchie sleep even better at night. She recommended that we drape a blanket over the top of that after putting him his crate at night. This makes it even darker in the crate while. We went with this cute decorative French Bulldog blanket which fit perfectly over our plastic crate. While it also sets up easily you can quickly fold it down into a portable suitcase-like package as well this makes it handy to bring on trips. This way you can buy one crate when your little guy is a puppy and then adjust the size as he grows. Just choose the size of crate that your French bulldog will need when it reaches its full adult size 30 inches should do the trick. The divider panel will allow you to adjust the length of the living area while your puppy grows, keeping the living space small enough to reduce the chance of your puppy going to the bathroom in one end and sleeping in the other. All and all this is a great crate and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable crate that will serve their Frenchie from puppyhood to adulthood. Beside ratters, French Bulldogs are also good companion dogs. Nowadays they mostly focus on their job as fabulous show dogs and family friends. Certain colored fur can be rare so do not be surprised if you are put in the waiting list before you get one. These medium energy dogs are known as show dogs and ranked as 6th most popular dog breed by the AKC. French bulldogs are not for clean neat freaks because they drool a lot and are prone to flatulence and some shedding. They are dependable watchdogs but quite often become territorial. There is no need for coat clipping since his hair is short in length. They do shed though.Doing so about once per week is sufficient and will keep his coat healthy and shedding to a minimum. Especially with French Bulldog puppies, clipping their toenails once a month is imperative. That will keep them from cracking, chipping or overgrowing. Bathe your French Bulldog as needed. Especially when he is a puppy, you can actually bath him in the sink. Keep their facial wrinkles dry and clean, especially when you bathe your pet. Brushing his teeth will be a must. The ears should be checked and cleaned with a damp, warm cloth around the edge of the canal. Never use a Q-tip though. He may suffer from dry ears so a dab of oil, like baby oil, will do him good. His nose may have a tendency to be dry as well. A little baby oil will help it too. Consider starting grooming your dogs at a young age, teaching them to stand will make grooming much easier for you and your Frenchies. Do not forget to check if there is any skin lesions, scabs, bare spots, flaky skin, or infection to remedy. Exercise Frenchies do not need lots of exercise, as they are calm dogs. But to keep them fit at a healthy weight, take them for daily walks around minutes in duration. Monitor them on hot days to avoid overexertion since they do not endure heat very well. They are trainable, which makes them popular show dogs, but sometimes can become stubborn so make sure you or a professional train them firmly, yet gently. Leaving them with children and other dogs is okay, as long as it is under your close supervision. Their under-bite only adds to their attraction, which is in the eye of the beholder. So if you are trying to sway one.Possible Medical Conditions of Frenchies While your Frenchie may never incur even one single medical woe, there are a number of conditions that they are prone to get. One is deafness. It is passed down from generation to generation so do keep your eyes and ears peeled for any concerning signs or symptoms your dog portrays. A Baer test can be conducted by a veterinarian specializing in neuroscience if you suspect he may have a hearing problem. Hip Dysplasia is not uncommon in the breed at all. The condition involves the ball of the femur not residing in the pelvic socket as it should. It is characterized by pain, limping and sometimes complete immobility. Surgery can correct or improve the issue. Since dogs have three eyelids, an upper, lower and corner one, sometimes the third one, in the corner has a tendency to cause trouble in Frenchies. The membrane is designed to protect his eye but sometimes becomes inflamed and red. The underlying root of the protrusion can be removed and a surgical replacement of the membrane can be put in. Many dogs that sport the look are prone to the condition in which he may breathe noisily, snore and snort. The condition can affect his lungs too and make him exercise intolerant. Dogs with severe cases of the malady will breathe through their mouths. It is a squeezing pressure on it that causes the condition. If your Frenchie is undergoing anesthesia, it is a good idea to have him checked by way of a radiograph to eliminate the condition. If he does have it, extra precautions will need to be taken during surgery. Heat stress is common, across the board, to most Frenchies. While most dogs cool themselves off by panting, short-faced, short-snouted canines are unable to do so or at least not nearly as effective. It is imperative to realize his inability to deal with too much heat at all and to care for him accordingly. You will need to be firm yet loving. Lavishing attention on him will bring out the best in him. When you get him wanting to comply, training will be a cinch. Family Matters French Bulldogs are perfect pooches for family life. Perhaps that is why they are so popular. They absolutely love their humans and can, at times, become overly attached. They can also be very territorial. The two traits combined make the Frenchie a decent watchdog. Frenchies are very engaging. They are always up for a game of fetch or to play ball. They can also be found snuggling with the family on the sofa, watching television. They are quite sensitive to heat and to extreme cold too. On the flip side, they work well in small spaces, if need be. If you live in an apartment or rent a room, owning a Frenchie is not out of the question. They certainly have a mind of their own. While that makes for plenty of charm in the personality department, it also means that they can be so independent that they are stubborn. With lots of love and patience, French Bulldogs make excellent family members. If you can put up with a little bull-headedness, you might just find you are a French fan, just like so many others are. Finding the right size crate for your French Bulldog can be a challenge, but with a little research, you can determine the best size crate for your pup. Puppies grow quickly, and if you purchase a larger crate for your pup, you may have to purchase another one as they grow older. However, if your pup is a more laid-back breed who likes to sleep, a smaller crate will be fine. Type of Crate There are a variety of crates available, including soft crates, plastic crates, and wire crates. For instance, soft crates are lightweight and portable, but may not provide your pup with enough support and security. On the other hand, plastic crates are more durable, but may be too large for a French Bulldog. Wire crates are great for pups who need more room to move around, but may not provide the same level of security as plastic or soft crates. If you plan to keep the crate in a corner of a room or in a closet, you may not need a large crate. On the other hand, if you plan to keep the crate in a living room or other visible area, you may want to get a larger crate. In conclusion, finding the right size crate for your French Bulldog can be tricky, but with a little research, you should be able to determine the best size crate for your pup. They were bred for those who loved the standard Labradoodle but wanted something smaller. This crossbreed is a popular choice for both experienced and new dog owners because of their calm temperament. They get along with other people and dogs and are easy to train. They can be stubborn, but they are very reward-driven. Even someone with allergies can potentially keep this dog. The idea originally started when breeders bred purebred Labrador Retrievers and standard Poodles to make more hypoallergenic dog breeds with Labrador friendliness and intelligence, creating the standard Labradoodle. But as wonderful as Labradoodles are, they can get pretty huge. Both the Labrador and the standard-sized Poodle are pretty big. So reputable breeders started breeding the purebred Labrador Retriever with the purebred Miniature Poodle to make a smaller version: the Mini Labradoodle. These cute little dogs are known for having big personalities despite their smaller bodies. They love their humans and can sometimes be protective of them. They also love running around and playing. Mini Labradoodles are highly intelligent, like their parents, and are very easy to train. They combine the loyalty, intelligence, and easy trainability of the Labrador with the low-shedding, more allergy-friendly coat of the Standard Poodle and Mini Poodle. Vital Statistics Height: inches, highly dependent on parents Weight: pounds, highly dependent on parents Average lifespan: years Energy level: High energy and needs lots of exercise Trainability: Highly intelligent dogs and easily trainable Shedding: Low shedder, high grooming needs History of the Mini Labradoodle Miniature Labradoodles are a relatively new crossbreed. They are believed to have been bred in Australia in the s when a breeder made the first successful cross of a Labrador Retriever and a Mini Poodle. And so, a reputable breeder wanted to mix the Labrador Retriever with a breed having a non-shedding coat. The standard Poodle was the perfect candidate. Both standard Labradoodles and Miniature Labradoodles came along from this need. First, the standard Labradoodle came along. Standard Labradoodles were popular but much too big for some people. So then the Lab was mixed with the Mini Poodle to make a smaller pup. Generally needs .You should have a good decade or so before you have to worry about health problems related to aging. Some dogs may live longer or shorter lives depending on how healthy they are. Lifestyle management can help maximize the time you have with your dog. Be on the lookout for health issues potentially passed down from the parents. Size Miniature Labradoodles are meant to be smaller versions of the Labradoodle. The designer dog mixes the traits of Labrador Retrievers and Toy Poodles to make a smaller dog. Smaller individuals may be around 14 inches tall. That said, the exact size may depend on the characteristics of the parents. These dogs still come from a fairly big breed. Larger individuals may be closer to 24 inches tall. It can be difficult to determine how big a Mini Labradoodle puppy will get until they grow. Weight Smaller Mini Labradoodles may weigh around 10 pounds or more. Again, they may be bigger and heavier depending on the genes inherited from their Lab and Mini Poodle parents. Larger individuals may weigh up to 30 pounds. Coat The Mini Labradoodle is meant to have the Poodle coat, a low-shedding coat that is allergy-friendly. The coat type and color can vary from individual to individual based on the genes of the Poodle parent or Labrador parent. Some coats may have a wool texture, coming from their Poodle genes. These coats require a lot of grooming. Other coats may be a soft, fleece texture. It may be wavy or curly. Some individuals may also have a hairy, straight coat closer to that of Labrador Retrievers rather than a Poodle coat. Color Mini Labradoodles can come in many colors. They may also be single-colored or multi-colored. It depends on the genes they inherit from their very different-looking parents. Mini Labradoodle Temperament and Personality Mini Labradoodles are believed to be the perfect family pet and companion because of their family-friendly characteristics. They are great with kids and other animals and are all-around easy to get along with. That said, they can also be protective of their family. Miniature Labradoodles can get lonely easily, and they do not like being left alone for too long. Leaving them alone for eight hours or more a day may lead to depression, separation anxiety, and the destruction of your furniture. As adorable and friendly as they are, they may not be the best for families that are out of the house all day. As tempting as it can be, avoid overfeeding your Mini Labradoodle with high-fat treats, no matter how much they beg. Like their parent breed, the Labrador, they can get overweight if overfed. Also, keep their age in mind; puppies and senior dogs need different kibbles. Mini Labradoodles and any breed should be kept on a puppy-based kibble until they are a year old to ensure they get the nutrients needed to grow properly. Seniors, meanwhile, may need senior food that helps them get the most nutrients out of their food. As they age, some dogs have trouble getting the nutrients they need from normal kibble and lose weight at an alarming rate. Family Compatibility Mini Labradoodles are great family dogs because of their friendliness. They can get along great with families and other pets. These dogs are also very playful and love family interaction. You can potentially take your Mini Labradoodle on hikes, trips, or errands without too much trouble. Children should also be taught not to be too rough with them, no matter how easygoing they are. No jumping on them, pulling their tails or ears, or chewing on them. Even the gentlest dogs have limits. Mini Labradoodles can get lonely easily and even depressed if left alone for too long. That said, they can suffer from some health conditions passed down from their parent breeds. Some health concerns these dogs may be at risk of are hip dysplasia, obesity, and bloat. Hip dysplasia occurs when the hip develops incorrectly as a puppy, causing problems later on. It can cause pain and dysfunction as the dog grows. Over time it can cause problems like arthritis and mobility issues. Obesity is a common problem among Labradors that can be passed down to their Mini Labradoodle children. Therefore, avoiding high-calorie treats and overfeeding them too much is best. Obesity can cause a range of other health problems in the future, like arthritis or joint pain. This is a hereditary disease passed down from Labradoodle parents. Mini Labradoodle puppies are more susceptible if their parents had it. Do not breed your Mini Labradoodle for Mini Labradoodle puppies if they have this disease. Exercise-induced collapse occurs when a dog overexerts itself while exercising. This particular problem is more common among Mini Labradoodles, so keep an eye on them when running around. This can be life-threatening. While your Miniature Labradoodle is running around and exercising, watch for symptoms like a lack of coordination, muscle weakness, or other signs of exhaustion. Make sure they stop and take a break if they seem to be tiring themselves out. Owners should also be careful of diseases like hypothyroidism. In addition, you should clean their ears periodically to avoid ear infections. Mini Labradoodles need consistent grooming and coat care to keep their fur from matting and getting messy. They need to be groomed multiple times a week, at the least. Daily brushing is recommended if possible. These dogs are incredibly active, coming from two very active breeds. They need a good minutes of exercise a day. They enjoy running and need to be able to burn off all that energy. Mini Labradoodle Training The Miniature Labradoodle is considered very easy to train, even for new dog owners. When all else fails, you can pull out a bag of dog treats to get their attention. You should start training early to avoid behavior problems later on. Keep a bag of low-calorie treats handy during the early days of training. Praise good behavior with a treat as soon as it shows desirable behavior. If your Miniature Labradoodle does something wrong, do not lash out at them, as it may worsen things. Punishments like hitting may lead to fear or aggression that would not have existed without it. Instead, redirect them to the right behavior and then reward them. These little guys can be stubborn and set in their ways if you wait too long. They love their humans, but they can also be a bit protective of them. Teaching your Mini Labradoodle puppy early on that other people and animals are safe is a good way to avoid any future problems like growling or lashing out at strangers. Trust me; you do not want to wait until your dog starts getting nervous about new people and animals to start socializing them. Once they start getting antisocial, it gets harder to mingle them. So go ahead and start taking them out and letting strangers give them treats and pets. Do Mini Labradoodles Bark a Lot? Miniature Labradoodles are not known for barking a lot. Depending on the individual, they may occasionally bark at the door or bark while playing. This breed is generally seen as a moderate barker. Any excessive barking can usually be addressed through positive training by rewarding quiet behavior. They may get into trouble and chew things up out of frustration or just get depressed to the point of illness. Never leave a young Mini Labradoodle puppy alone. They may get into something and get themselves hurt. Is the Mini Labradoodle Hypoallergenic? The non-shedding coat of the Miniature Labradoodle is more allergy-friendly than most. They can also be a good choice for those with concerns about allergies. These small to medium designer dogs are intelligent, loyal, and love pleasing their humans, much like their parent breeds. Mini Labradoodles also require consistent attention and will get lonely if you leave them alone for too long. Make sure you have the means to care for any dog you decide to get. The Labradoodle is bred by crossing a Poodle with a Labrador Retriever , while the Miniature Labradoodle is created by crossbreeding a Miniature Poodle with a Labrador. Still intelligent, affectionate and great family dogs, you get all the same qualities of the loving Labradoodle in a much smaller form! History Of The Mini Labradoodle The Labradoodle is known for being an excellent service dog, often being used as a therapy dog or service dog due to their sweet and affectionate nature. The Mini Labradoodle, also known as the Toy Labradoodle, was originally bred to be the companion counterpart to the Standard Labradoodle — a smaller version that people could live happily alongside. They were also bred because of their hypoallergenic coat that they could inherit from their Poodle parent, although this is also one of the reasons the Standard Labradoodle was bred! We will go into more detail about their hypoallergenic coat later on. There are different generations of these designer dogs. A F1 hybrid is a Miniature Poodle crossed with a Labrador. A F2 cross is breeding one Mini Labradoodle with another. A F2 Mini Labradoodle is likely to be far more expensive that a F1 or F1B because their temperament and characteristics are more easily predicted. However, it is registered with the Designer Breed Registry. Always find a reputable breeder when you are buying one of these pups or any dog! Breed Origin We can take a look at the parent breeds origins first to understand the beginnings of the Labradoodle. The Poodle originated from the French and German border in the 15th and 16th century and was associated with the upper class. Because they are excellent water dogs, they were used to hunt water-fowl. Later on, because of their adorable look, these pups became a very popular dog. The Toy Poodle was bred from the Standard Poodle by choosing the smallest pup from each litter and breeding with them. They were first seen in America in the 20th century. The Labrador is the most popular breed of dog in America. Labradors were originally bred as gun dogs in the s and used to accompany hunters and retrieve animals that had been shot. They were also used in Newfoundland to retrieve fish that came in off the trawl, which is why they love the water. Their loyal and loving nature mean that they quickly became a very popular family dog and are still used today as working dogs, such as guide dogs. The Labradoodle was first bred by Wally Conron in and they have been growing in popularity ever since. The Standard Labradoodle was first bred in Australia with the purpose of being a hypoallergenic guide dog in the s. Not long after, the Miniature Labradoodle was in demand as people wanted a smaller version of this low shedding and friendly pet. At some point between and , Dr Kate Schoeffel first bred the Mini variation of the standard size Labradoodle. Characteristics Of The Mini Labradoodle Because the Mini labradoodle is a crossbreed, it can be difficult to determine the exact characteristics that they are going to inherit from each parent. One litter may take more traits from the Poodle parent, while another litter may take more traits from the Labrador parent. We can, however, say that the characteristics of the Mini Labradoodle are the same as the Standard Labradoodle — they really are the same dog, just in a smaller size! A F2 Mini Labradoodle has a more predictable temperament and appearance. However, based on past Mini Labradoodle litters, we can predict some of the traits of these pups no matter the generation. Appearance The Toy Labradoodle looks almost identical to their Standard cousins, except they are much smaller. These little pups normally stand between 14 to 16 inches tall and usually weigh under 45 lbs, with the average weight being anywhere between 15 to 25 lbs. Much like the Standard Labradoodle, the Mini looks a bit like a teddy bear! Coat These dogs can inherit different coat types from their parents. Some Mini Labradoodles may inherit a long, curly and thick coat from their Poodle parent, or they inherit a short, straight and dense coat from their Labrador parent. This is very difficult to predict and sometimes the coat will even be a perfect hybrid of both parents! However, as the Labradoodle became more popular, careful breeding went out the window. That being said, if your pup inherits their coat from their Poodle parent, it is likely they will be hypoallergenic and great for those with allergies. Normally, the Labradoodle will have a solid colored coat, but this is not always true. The most common coat colors for this breed are black, brown, chocolate, apricot, cream, golden, silver and white. Temperament The Labradoodle is a smart, loving and playful dog that inherits desirable traits from both parent breeds. Bred to be companion dogs, these pups certainly live up to it and love to be around people. They love to please their owners too, which makes them easy to train and fun to learn tricks with! Their intelligence means that they make excellent service dogs, especially guide dogs and therapy dogs, and they are highly intuitive, too. Their friendly nature means they will want to spend time with you and they are extremely sociable. They will love a trip to the store or a walk in the park where they can socialize with other people and dogs. A great family pet, the Labradoodle gets on with everyone and just wants to love you! Their playful and active nature means they love to spend time outside too, having fun and burning off energy. If you need a dog to brighten up your day, the Labradoodle might be for you. Lifespan Mixed breed dogs normally have a longer life expectancy that purebred breeds. You can expect your Miniature Labradoodle to fall into this range. Known Health Issues Unfortunately, the Mini Labradoodle is susceptible to some health problems that their parent breeds are prone to. We have laid out the most common health concerns seen in the Labradoodle below. Progressive Retinal Atrophy PRA — this is an eye disorder that eventually causes blindness from the loss of photoreceptors at the back of the eye. Some dogs show pain and lameness on one or both rear legs, but you may not notice any signs of discomfort in a dog with hip dysplasia. The symptoms of it include excessive drinking and urinating, as well as increased heart rate and panting. Bloat — this affects both parent breeds and is potentially fatal. You need to know the symptoms of it. Feeding your dog smaller more frequent meals instead of one big meal can help to reduce the risk. Regular vet checkups and keeping an eye on your dog will ensure you can catch any of these issues before they become untreatable. Remember — buy from a reputable breeder and the chances your dog will suffer any health conditions will be greatly reduced. Trusted breeders will do health checks on both parent breeds and will not crossbreed if there is a chance of passing on any issues to offspring. Daily Life Now we know the characteristics and traits of a Mini Labradoodle, it is time to take a look at what looking after and living with one of these pets is like. Read on below to find out about their food and diet, their exercise needs and their grooming needs. You should always check the back of the dog food packet to see how much of a particular food you should feeding them based on their weight. The food you feed your Labradoodle should be high-quality and nutritious. Try to find a food that is formulated specifically for their size. Try to space their meals over at least two meals a day. This will also help with the bloat that this breed is more prone to and can be a life threatening issue. However there are two different ways breeders are breeding the Mini Labradoodle. Some have Toy Labradoodles. These two smaller sizes of Labradoodles are achieved sometimes by surgical insemination or artificial insemination, but not all breeders perform this method of breeding. The resulting puppies may or may not be miniature in size. The theory is that they will be somewhere in between the Miniature Poodle's size and the Labrador Retriever's size. Some breeders are producing a much smaller Labradoodle by adding in a third breed. By first downsizing the adult breeding female Labrador Retriever, some breeders have crossed a Labrador Retriever with a Cocker Spaniel to produce a smaller dog. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in any breed. Ask the breeder you contact which method of breeding they used to produce the Mini Labradoodle. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. Height, Weight Standard: Height 22 - 24 inches 53 - 60 cm Standard: Weight Females 45 - 60 pounds 20 - 27 kg Male 55 - 77 pounds 25 - 35 kg Miniature: Height 17 - 22 inches 44 - 56 cm Miniature: Weight 30 - 50 pounds 14 - 25 kg Males being larger than females. There are a few different ways breeders are producing Labradoodles. This is not the best cross for people with severe allergies. White Are They Hypoallergenic? Dog breeds, like the Poodle, have been labelled hypoallergenic because they are low- or no-shedding. This is because some of the main allergens from the dog are in their saliva and transferred onto their coat through self-grooming. The hairs with saliva and the allergen spread throughout the house when dogs shed. Dogs actually have a number of proteins that humans can react to. Making elimination of these allergens impossible. With any dog, allergens will always be present, even if they are low-shedding. So, a Mini Labradoodle is not hypoallergenic. The best way to learn if a specific Miniature Doodle triggers your symptoms is to spend some time with them before bringing them home. Do Mini Labradoodles Shed? The amount your mix sheds will depend on which parent they take after. Mini Doodles with a hair coat will shed a lot, like the Labrador. Fleece and wool coats will be better at catching shedding fur before it falls through your house. But, a recent study in has found that the allergen levels in the coat of a hypoallergenic dog and in the home environment of these dogs are the same as that of shedding, non-hypoallergenic breeds. In fact, some public spaces and homes of non-pet owners about thirty-four percent tested positive for pet allergens. So, you will be exposed to at least some allergens, no matter what your dog, and how much they shed. Coat Care and Grooming Mini Labradoodles require at least a weekly brushing if they have a double-coat, like the Labrador parent. Poodle coats are more high-maintenance. They need daily brushing. This is because shed fur gets caught by their tight curls. This is a dog that would very much benefit from regular visits with a groomer! Mini Labradoodle Size So, is the full grown Mini Labradoodle size compact, like the Miniature Poodle parent, or medium-sized, like the Labrador parent? Based on the typical sizes of the Toy Poodle and Labrador, a full grown Mini Labradoodle will be 14 to 16 inches tall at the shoulder. The average weight of a Mini Labradoodle ranges from 15 to 25 pounds. Or at the high end of the spectrum at about 30 pounds. The best way to predict the size of your puppy is to take a look at the parents. This size becomes more easy to guess in second or third generation mixes, since the parents are more similar in size. Both parent breeds are intelligent, active, and people-oriented. So, a Miniature Labradoodle will likely be the same. They will form strong bonds with their families, and will often get along with other pets, especially if raised together. However, purebred Miniature Poodles can be shy around new people and other dogs. This may be why some people associate Poodles with biting and snappy behavior. Proper early socialization to people and other animals will prevent this. You should start socializing a Mini Labradoodle from when they are a puppy. Early training and socialization are important to help ensure a friendly and well-behaved pet. Once your dog is up to date on their vaccinations, they can join puppy kindergarten or obedience classes. This is an effective and fun way to both train them and get them to use to other dogs at the same time. Activity Levels The Mini Labradoodle comes from two active, working breeds. So, they need a lot of exercise, despite their smaller size. Be prepared to take this dog on lots of walks and to spend at least an hour of play time with them each day. Swimming can be another enjoyable activity for this breed. Having interactive dog toys for your Doodle will also help to keep both their bodies and minds stimulated. Keeping your dog occupied and entertained may help prevent them from getting into mischief. Mini Labradoodle Health The Mini Labradoodle is at risk of inheriting common breed health problems from either parent. The most likely conditions to be passed down are those prevalent in both the Labrador and the Miniature Poodle. But they can also be screened for by the breeder. A reputable breeder will not breed a dog that tests positive for these conditions. Ask your breeder to provide proof of testing for all recommended screenings for both breed parents. Other common problems that Miniature Labradoodles are at risk of include: Gastric Dilatation bloat. Post by: Emily W. These dogs can be described in many ways: wonderful family dogs, great companions, fantastic workout buddies, and a best friend. Since dogs of this breed have quite a bit of energy, they may be a little too much for first-time dog parents, but overall, these dogs can along with nearly everyone. Dogs of this breed can also do well in a multi-pet home, though it is most helpful when your pup is socialized and introduced to their four-legged siblings from a young age. Breed History Labradoodles first made an appearance in the s. Australian dog breeder, Wally Conron, was tasked with creating a guide dog that was more suitable for people with a dog allergy. Having a lower dander count, Poodles were the perfect breed to mix with the friendly and helpful Labrador Retriever, thus began the Labradoodle. Over the years, as Doodle mixes have become increasingly more popular, the Mini Australian Labradoodle came about as a mix between Poodles , Labradors , and Cocker Spaniels. These dogs are unique because they are a mix of three separate breeds, not the usual two. Mini Australian Labradoodles vs. Cockapoos vs. Cockapoos are a mix of two breeds: Cocker Spaniels and Poodles. As you may have already concluded from their name, Aussiedoodles have Australian Shepherd and Poodle parents. Attributes The typical Mini Australian Labradoodle temperament is favorable and easy-going. These are a great middle-of-the-road breed, making them a wonderful choice for most families. However, before adopting one, most pet parents first have some questions about these dogs that they want to be answered. Yes, Mini Australian Labradoodles do shed, though not excessively. With that in mind, how much your dog sheds may be determined by their coat texture: hair, fleece, or wool. Usually, hair will shed the most and wool the least. Are Mini Australian Labradoodles Hypoallergenic? No dog breed is fully hypoallergenic, but some are more allergy-friendly than others , the Mini Australian Labradoodle being one of them. Mini Australian Labradoodles are considered small, typically weighing between pounds and standing around inches at their shoulder. Even though these are the standard measurements for these dogs, there can be variance from one litter to another because they are a mixed breed. Training One of the many fun and rewarding parts of being a dog parent is getting to train your dog. Training can be a rewarding process that is both enjoyable for you and your dog, plus it allows you and your best pal to spend some quality time with one another. Training should begin as early as possible. Whether you adopt your dog at five months of age or five years, you can start training the very day you bring your pal home. Remember to be consistent, patient, never use harsh tones, and provide rewards for a job well done. If you notice that your dog seems to be getting bored during training, it may be helpful to keep sessions on the shorter side, mix up commands, or simply change the environment in which you are training. On top of commands, other essential training items include house training. You may be surprised just how quickly these intelligent dogs can learn, but some Mini Australian Labradoodles may take a little more time than others. For dog parents, crate training is also a valuable resource. Not to mention, whenever your dog is home alone, you can have the peace of mind that they will be secure in their crate, instead of possibly rooting around in the garbage or making confetti out of your couch. Going hand-in-hand with training is socialization. Socialization mainly involves introducing your dog to new people, places, sights, and sounds, so the possibilities are endless. Grooming Keeping your pup well-groomed is a major responsibility of being a dog parent. Helping your pup look their best can also help them feel their best. If they appear dirty, clean the outer ear with a cotton ball and dog-safe ear cleaning solution—never use cotton swabs or clean down into the inner ear. Though their floppy ears are adorable, Mini Australian Labradoodles can be more likely to develop ear infections because of them. Keeping their ears clean and drying them thoroughly after a bath or swim can help reduce infections. If you notice that your dog is prone to getting eye goopies, simply use a soft, damp cloth to wipe away from their eyes gently. Use a new cloth or the opposite corner for each eye. Of course, coat care is an essential grooming item when it comes to Mini Australian Labradoodles. On top of monthly nail trimming and a bath every few months, your pup will also need their hair trimmed every few months. Like nearly all Doodles, their hair will continuously grow, so you can either give them a little trim every so often or do a more drastic haircut a few times a year. Care Caring for a Mini Australian Labradoodle is a rewarding task. Given the care and attention they need, in return, these adorable pups will shower you with unconditional love. Step one of caring for your best pal is to find an outlet for that Mini Australian Labradoodle energy. As a smaller breed, these dogs typically require close to an hour of physical exercise every day. This can be in the form of a walk, hike, jog, or run. Even some off-leash running is a terrific option, as long as your pup is in a securely fenced-in area. On top of exercise, your Mini Australian Labradoodle will also want some playtime every day. Mini Australian Labradoodles are intelligent dogs that enjoy getting the chance to work their minds. Mini Australian Labradoodles are naturally social dogs that prefer to spend time with their family. By exercising and playing with your dog, you are simultaneously providing them with the one-on-one attention they crave and the mental and physical stimulation they need. Providing your dog with a nutritious and age-appropriate diet is crucial to keep them energized and in great health. Too many treats can lead to some unwanted pounds and eventually to obesity. Common Health Issues Mini Australian Labradoodles are relatively healthy dogs, but they are still susceptible to developing health issues. When you first adopt your Mini Australian Labradoodle, it will be necessary to establish them with a local veterinarian. Plus, these appointments can also be beneficial for you. These pups make the perfect hiking and running buddies. Active and needs lots of exercises History Of The Breed The labradoodle has been around since the s as a mix of the Labrador retriever and a full-size poodle. This breed was developed to create dogs with the loyalty, intelligence, and trainability of the Labrador retriever, with the low shedding coat of the poodle. The loyalty and high intelligence of poodles made them a great personality match for a Lab as well. Despite being bred as companion dogs, standard poodles are actually pretty big. They are at least 15 inches tall and can weigh anywhere from 45 to 70 pounds. When you combine that with a Labrador, which is inches tall and can weigh 70 pounds, you get a pretty big dog. They tend to be around inches tall and can weigh pounds. They are dogs that take up quite a bit of space! Of course, you can get a smaller labradoodle by breeding a Lab with a miniature or a toy poodle. This is not as easy to do as there can be a huge size difference between the pure-bred parents, but some breeders have been working for several generations to gradually reduce the size of their labradoodle pups. Mini Labradoodle Appearance There is still quite a bit of size difference between the miniature Labradoodles that you can get from a breeder; they can weigh anything from 15 to 30 pounds, and most will measure somewhere between 14 and 16 inches tall. The appearance of miniature Labradoodles can be more predictable than that of standard Labradoodles as they are usually bred from two labradoodle parents, rather than directly from the parent breeds. They will almost certainly have the low-shedding coat of a poodle since this is one of the principal traits that is controlled for. They could have a wool coat that needs daily brushing to release hair that gets caught up in the wiry texture or a fleece coat that is wavy. These may shed slightly more, but this coat is easy to care for. They can vary significantly in color since poodles come in a variety of colors, unlike Labradors which are yellow, black, or chocolate. They can be apricot, black, blue, brown, cream, gray, red, silver, silver-beige, or white. They may also be bicolor, though this is relatively rare. Temperament Labradoodles are highly intelligent dogs. Both Labradors and poodles are considered among the most intelligent breeds and can learn a new command with as few as five repetitions. Their offspring will certainly inherit this intelligence. Labradors are also highly trainable because they are eager to please and love having something to do! They are also reward-driven. This means that mini Labradoodles will be highly trainable as well. Both parent breeds love people and tend to form tight attachments with their families quickly. They are also pretty relaxed with strangers and are more likely to want to make friends than raise the alarm when someone shows up at the door. This is one of the reasons that they make excellent guide dogs or other working dogs. You should always pay attention when your miniature labradoodle starts barking. They can be a bit more standoffish with other pets, but socialization from a young age can teach them to make friends. You should take the time to introduce new pets into the home and let them get to know each other from a distance first when dealing with these dogs. Because both parent breeds love being around people, so do their miniature Lab children. They can become highly stressed and even develop depression. It is also common for them to become destructive when they feel frustrated. Since they are highly intelligent pups, they need a lot of mental stimulation. Teaching them tricks can be a great way to activate their minds, and puzzle toys can keep them distracted for a while, though they tend to figure things out pretty quickly. Be warned that they are also excellent escape artists, so all escape routes from the house need to be secured. Labradoodles love children and instinctively know how to be careful and protective of them. Of course, you should never leave children unattended with any dog for the safety of both, but a miniature labradoodle will love playing with kids, and the two high-energy forces can work to wear one another out. Activity Levels Despite their smaller size, miniature Labradoodles need almost as much exercise as their larger labradoodle cousins. They need at least an hour of active exercise each day, preferably split into two 30 minute periods. In addition to formal exercise, they do best when they have some outdoor space at home that they can potter around in and use to let off a bit of energy throughout the day. Nothing will make these dogs happier than accompanying the family on hikes and other adventures. Thanks to their Lab parent they also love the water and tend to be excellent swimmers. Health Concerns A miniature labradoodle may live as little as 10 or as long as 18 years, which can be very difficult to predict, but you should expect your canine companion to be with you for quite some time. While they are generally healthy dogs, they can be predisposed to a few health conditions that pet parents should be aware of. The first is gastric dilation, which is basically bloating. Gaining weight can be an immediate sign of this, but it wreaks havoc with many of their systems. This is another good reason to watch what you feed them, and consult your vet about relevant medication. These collapses can be life-threatening, so it is important to monitor your dog during exercise and rein them in if they show any sign of muscle weakness or lack of coordination. Consult your vet for long-term treatment. This can also be a sign of centronuclear myopathy, which is not unknown in this breed. Hip dysplasia can be another common issue, which is exacerbated if you overexercise your dog as a puppy. Restrict exercise until they are fully grown to ensure against abnormal growth. Eye conditions including cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy are also pretty common, but most breeders should be screening for this. How To Find A Mini Labradoodle Puppy Labradoodles are a popular breed, so there are many active breeders, but finding one who specializes in miniature Labradoodles can be more challenging. Thankfully, there is a big community that loves this type of dog so there are many forums where you can ask around and get advice. Having read our guide to the miniature labradoodle, are you considering whether you should adopt one? Consider the following to make your final decision. This can lead to destructive frustration and serious depression. They do best in households when there is nearly always someone about, or when they can go to work with you. Their good behavior and low shedding mean that they are good dogs to take with you to other places. You also need to take the time to train these dogs, as they need lots of mental stimulation to keep them entertained. Are you willing to commit the time to their development? Despite their small size, these are high-energy dogs. As well as formal exercise, they will love joining you on weekend adventures and would rather be on the trail than sitting in front of the TV watching Netflix with you. Do you have the type of lifestyle that your dog will enjoy? Do You Have Kids? Miniature labradoodles are great with kids and they know how to both be protective and play gently. The key is to teach children how to treat dogs gently as well. They might not be the best fit for very young families just because they have lots of energy and need lots of attention. It can be a challenge to juggle the needs of young children and an energetic young pup at the same time. There are, however, lots of things to look out for to make sure these pups stay healthy and happy. They will bark during play or if they want to get your attention, but excessive barking is uncommon and is normally something that you should pay attention to. Do labradoodles chew furniture? Find our recommendations for the best puppy chew toys here. Can mini labradoodles be left alone? These dogs should not be left at home repeatedly for long workdays, though. These dogs do best when they have company for most of the day. Do labradoodles bond with one person? All dogs have a tendency to bond more strongly with one person than everyone else. This is usually their principal caregiver, but they have big hearts with room for everyone in the family, plus most of the strangers they meet. The miniature labradoodle is a smaller version of the original labradoodle that can do better in smaller family homes; however, they still have the same high energy and need at least some outdoor space to call their own. If you have always wanted a labradoodle, but resisted adopting one because of its size, the miniature labradoodle might be exactly the dog you are looking for. bullmastiff labrador puppies - If you have been following us, you also know that we were planning to adopt a puppy from Scotland for our breeding program. Unfortunately COVID has made it impossible for us to bring her to Hawaii without an extensive travel time which we feel would be unsafe. We still plan to proceed with this plan when travel restrictions ease. The word Pono in the Hawaiian language means many things, but at its core, it means doing things the right way. Pono is breeding genuine multi-generational Australian labradoodles , not first or second generation labrador x poodle crosses. Pono is raising our puppies in our own home and showering them with love and and positive reinforcement from the beginning. This all started with our beloved family dog, Hula. She was not originally intended to be a breeding dog, but when it came time to have her spayed, we felt that she was such a uniquely special dog that we should not remove her from the gene pool. We checked in with her breeder, the amazing Spring Creek Labradoodles in Oregon, and asked if they would like her to be part of the program. When we moved to Hawaii, Spring Creek Labradoodles agreed to allow us to continue with our plan to breed Hula. She had her first litter in December , and we were in love with the whole process. It was a little hard to let the puppies go! We hope over time to grow our breeding program slowly and with pono, never having too many puppies to find excellent homes for, and always keeping our breeding dogs in happy families. Hawaii Labradoodles!! We are excited to bring locally bred Labradoodles to Hawaii. We all currently reside in Kailua, Hawaii on the island of Oahu. Veronica grew up here on Oahu, in Kailua, on the Windward side. She's had many pets and has always been an animal lover who's enjoyed caring for pets since she can remember. Casey is originally from Huntington Beach, Ca. In , our little Jack Russell Lucy passed away and we were longing for another dog. We had a wish list of sorts that we had in mind for our next dog: great temperament and personality low to no shed bigger breed During our search, we came across the labradoodle breed which fit the description perfectly. But it couldn't be that easy.We wanted a unique phantom colored labradoodle. Until now, finding any quality multi-generational labradoodle puppy in Hawaii was impossible. In , we searched diligently and came across a breeder in New Zealand, Willowbrook Farm, who had just had a litter of phantom colored labradoodles. We worked closely with the breeder and finally chose to make Maya part of our family. We were updated weekly with her progress, provided pictures of her during the entire process and enjoyed a very friendly dialog with the breeders. We anxiously awaited her arrival until she finally made her big voyage at 12 weeks old. We instantly fell in love with her. She is so kind, loving, smart, and obedient. Just a beautiful dog. She loves to watch animal planet, enjoys her tummy rubs, car rides, and loves to snuggle. Maya had three gorgeous litters and is now retired from our breeding program. Maya Cruise In , we decided to add the most gorgeous breeding stud into our breeding program. He is a 9 yr old multi-generational labradoodle that we imported from New Zealand. His name is Cruise and he has sired several amazing litters. We are committed to providing Hawaii with excellent multigenerational labradoodles. There are many "breeders" out there just breeding to breed and are not considering their responsibility in providing healthy and quality puppies for you to enjoy and add to your family. Also, do your research on what a F1 or F1B labradoodle is. F1's tend to have a totally different look and will shed. The F1B generally pull towards the poodle side with longer noses and tighter curls. We are conscientious about filling a need for the labradoodle community without adding to the pet over population problem. We want committed families so we know that our pups would never end up in a shelter. If you are interested in being placed on the wait list for the next litter, please fill out a puppy application.
