When speaking about Labradoodle health concerns, this breed in particular is more prone to: Hip Dysplasia: This health problem is hereditary and is displayed as a limping Labradoodle with pain in the back legs. This is more commonly seen in the larger Labradoodles and can be avoided by purchasing a puppy that comes genetically tested. Progressive Retinal Atrophy: This is an eye disease that Labradoodles are more prone to. If this is left untreated the possibility of sight loss or night sight loss is the result. Diabetes Mellitus: A Labradoodle eating more food although not gaining weight may be suffering from Diabetes Mellitus. If you find that your dog has this, regular insulin may be needed. While a teacup Labradoodle may be prone to a handful of diseases, more times than not, they are hereditary. This means purchasing a Labradoodle from a reputable breeder ensures that the dog is free from hereditary health concerns. Teacup Labradoodle Bedding Like many breeds, teacup miniature Labradoodles are notorious chewers. This means that when you are selecting bedding, while the soft cushioned beds may look attractive, the chances are your Labradoodle will have these ripped to shreds in a matter of weeks. The older a Labradoodle is, the less they tend to chew, so this means fluff filled bedding may be appropriate for teacup Labradoodles that are a couple of years old although we definitely do not recommend one for a Labradoodle puppy. When choosing bedding for your Teacup Labradoodle you will need to consider: The material that the bedding is made from. As mentioned above, chew resistant or chew proof bedding is the most suitable for a Labradoodle. The size of the bed. Make sure the bed you choose can support their weight range. Your Labradoodles health needs. If you have a Labradoodle that suffers from arthritis you may need to select a bed that is up off the cold ground. This dog bed is machine washable, chew resistant to prevent puppies from spilling the cushioning and waterproof. This bed in no slip when put on wooden flooring and is low enough to the ground that even the smallest teacup Labradoodle puppies have no trouble curling up in the bed. If you are purchasing a pet bed for one teacup Labradoodle, you may opt to purchase the medium size or if you feel as though two dogs you own will be happy to share, the X-Large bed may be a better investment. Sizes Available: X-small, small, medium, large and X-large. Elevated Pet Bed If you prefer to house your teacup Labradoodle outdoors, an elevated pet bed is the best option to avoid the bed getting damp during the night. This bed comes in small, medium and large with the medium size being the most appropriate for teacup Labradoodles. For smaller cross dogs such as a Maltese, a collar and lead tends to be enough although for larger and strong breeds, like the Labradoodle, harnesses are much more popular. When selecting a harness for your teacup Labradoodle, you will need to consider: The Durability of the Harness. Labradoodles are a strong dog breed therefor a harness made from denim, nylon or canvas is your best selection. How Comfortable the Harness Is. The harness should be soft yet firm to touch. The Cost of the Harness. Sometimes spending a tad more on a better quality harness can save you money in the long term. Purchasing a harness from a reputable dog company will ensure the harness has been tested for a number of different factors such as comfort. The Size of the Harness. An adult teacup Labradoodle will weigh between 15 to 30 pounds. It is important to select a harness that can be adjusted as the dog grows. Puppia harness are adjustable allowing them to grow with the dog and save the owner the hassle and money of needing to purchase differing sized leashes throughout the dogs life. Puppia harnesses can be machine washed with the X Large size being the most appropriate for teacup Labradoodles. Many have commented saying that these Puppia harnesses run small, so always measure you dog prior to purchasing one. This is a step harness that is hassle free and has a double security Velcro and clip finish. Voyager leashes are designed to last and withstand strong and robust breeds such as the Labradoodle. Depending on the size of your teacup Labradoodle, you will either need to purchase a Large or Extra Large Voyager harness. Range of Colors Available: Army, baby blue, black, blue,blue base, fuchsia, grey, lime green, orange, pink, pink base, purple, red, red base, turquoise and yellow. Gooby Teacup Labradoodle Harness Gooby harnesses are designed for smaller breed dogs, with the largest harness within the Gooby collection being the ideal fit for a teacup Labradoodle. These harness are light weight, designed with mesh to ensure the dog does not overheat and is durable for even Labradoodles. Gooby harnesses have a choke free patented design to ensure the dog is not restricted in any way when they are wearing the harness. Using a harness opposed to a leash gives an owner more control when out in public and does not put pressure around a dogs throat. Range of Colors Available: Black, blue, green, pink, purple and red. The Teacup Labradoodle shares the same coat, temperament and personality as the standard Labradoodle, the only difference is their smaller sizing. Finding teacup Labradoodle puppies Teacup dogs are bred to be extremely small. They may also be called toy or micro dogs, and will remain as small as puppies for their entire lives. Teacup Labradoodles are not officially recognised anywhere. They are the smallest type of Labradoodle available, smaller even than miniature Labradoodles. However, this tiny size comes with a price, and many teacup Labradoodles experience a large number of health issues as a consequence. What is a Teacup Labradoodle? Since a teacup Labradoodle is not an official variant of this mix, there can be some confusion about this tiny dog! Teacup Labradoodles are not the same as Miniature Labradoodles. Teacup dogs are a variety of toy breeds, known for their extreme, exaggerated size. These dogs are bred to be as small as possible. Their name comes from their ability to fit inside a teacup, as a young puppy would be able to. Toy and teacup dogs were first popularised by celebrities, who owned dogs small enough to carry in their handbags. Since then, some people have bred smaller versions of many purebred dogs, often selling these tiny varieties as ideal for a low energy pet in small homes. A standard Labradoodle is a medium to large dog. So, to achieve teacup dog sizes, breeders will usually have to breed the smallest dogs over several generations of litters. However, as a general rule, teacup dogs will not exceed 5 lbs in weight. Their height at the withers will be a matter of inches. These dogs are incredibly tiny. Especially compared to the standard Labradoodle. Breeders cannot achieve these sizes overnight. The process of getting a teacup Labradoodle will usually involve breeding several generations using only the smallest puppies in a litter, or the runts of the litter. They may also involve the Toy Poodle in f1 Labradoodle parents, in an attempt to achieve a small size from the offset. In some cases, breeders may involve other toy breeds. For instance, they may breed a small Labradoodle with a Chihuahua, to encourage a smaller size. Of course, this would no longer make the dog a Labradoodle. Teacup Labradoodle Temperament The standard Labradoodle is an intelligent, energetic, and family-oriented dog. It has high exercise needs, high grooming needs, and requires lots of mental stimulation. Breeders of teacup varieties hope to pack this big personality into a much smaller body. Smaller dogs often need less exercise than larger ones. But, they are also faster to groom since they have less fur, and cheaper to care for, since they require less food than larger breeds. If a teacup Labradoodle has the same personality as a traditional Labradoodle mix, it will be friendly, affectionate, and playful. Since they are much more vulnerable, and prone to injuries, teacup dogs can be more fearful than larger dogs, which can lead to aggression. Of course, any bites may not hurt that much, but it is still a problematic behavior. A Closer Look at Problematic Behaviors Studies and owner-surveys suggest that small dogs tend to display more of these problematic behaviors than large breeds. Perhaps, owners tolerate biting and bad behaviors more, since their dogs are smaller and inflict less harm. Some theories suggest that bad behaviors in teacup and toy breeds are down to bad breeding practices, by breeders that prioritise appearance and size over health and temperament. And others suggest it could be due to upbringing. Small dogs will still need exercise and mental stimulation. Without enough, they can display unwanted behaviors, just as larger breeds will. In some cases, behavioral problems in teacup breeds can be a symptom of common health problems. Teacup Labradoodle Health Problems Teacup Labradoodles may be small and cute, but their extreme size can cause a number of huge problems around health and training. Since these tiny dogs have such small bladders, they may struggle with potty training more than larger breeds. So, owners must be more vigilant when it comes to taking their tiny dogs to the toilet regularly. On top of this, there are several health problems that small dogs are more prone to. Here are some of the most common health issues that could affect a toy or teacup Labradoodle: Fragility and more common broken bones Breathing problems Hydrocephalus water on the brain Patellar luxation and arthritis. Active and needs lots of exercises History Of The Breed The labradoodle has been around since the s as a mix of the Labrador retriever and a full-size poodle. This breed was developed to create dogs with the loyalty, intelligence, and trainability of the Labrador retriever, with the low shedding coat of the poodle. The loyalty and high intelligence of poodles made them a great personality match for a Lab as well. Despite being bred as companion dogs, standard poodles are actually pretty big. They are at least 15 inches tall and can weigh anywhere from 45 to 70 pounds. When you combine that with a Labrador, which is inches tall and can weigh 70 pounds, you get a pretty big dog. They tend to be around inches tall and can weigh pounds. They are dogs that take up quite a bit of space! Of course, you can get a smaller labradoodle by breeding a Lab with a miniature or a toy poodle. This is not as easy to do as there can be a huge size difference between the pure-bred parents, but some breeders have been working for several generations to gradually reduce the size of their labradoodle pups. Mini Labradoodle Appearance There is still quite a bit of size difference between the miniature Labradoodles that you can get from a breeder; they can weigh anything from 15 to 30 pounds, and most will measure somewhere between 14 and 16 inches tall. The appearance of miniature Labradoodles can be more predictable than that of standard Labradoodles as they are usually bred from two labradoodle parents, rather than directly from the parent breeds. They will almost certainly have the low-shedding coat of a poodle since this is one of the principal traits that is controlled for. They could have a wool coat that needs daily brushing to release hair that gets caught up in the wiry texture or a fleece coat that is wavy. These may shed slightly more, but this coat is easy to care for. They can vary significantly in color since poodles come in a variety of colors, unlike Labradors which are yellow, black, or chocolate. They can be apricot, black, blue, brown, cream, gray, red, silver, silver-beige, or white. They may also be bicolor, though this is relatively rare. Temperament Labradoodles are highly intelligent dogs. Both Labradors and poodles are considered among the most intelligent breeds and can learn a new command with as few as five repetitions. Their offspring will certainly inherit this intelligence. Labradors are also highly trainable because they are eager to please and love having something to do! They are also reward-driven. This means that mini Labradoodles will be highly trainable as well. Both parent breeds love people and tend to form tight attachments with their families quickly. They are also pretty relaxed with strangers and are more likely to want to make friends than raise the alarm when someone shows up at the door. This is one of the reasons that they make excellent guide dogs or other working dogs. You should always pay attention when your miniature labradoodle starts barking. They can be a bit more standoffish with other pets, but socialization from a young age can teach them to make friends. You should take the time to introduce new pets into the home and let them get to know each other from a distance first when dealing with these dogs. Because both parent breeds love being around people, so do their miniature Lab children. They can become highly stressed and even develop depression. It is also common for them to become destructive when they feel frustrated. Since they are highly intelligent pups, they need a lot of mental stimulation. Teaching them tricks can be a great way to activate their minds, and puzzle toys can keep them distracted for a while, though they tend to figure things out pretty quickly. Be warned that they are also excellent escape artists, so all escape routes from the house need to be secured. Labradoodles love children and instinctively know how to be careful and protective of them. Of course, you should never leave children unattended with any dog for the safety of both, but a miniature labradoodle will love playing with kids, and the two high-energy forces can work to wear one another out. Activity Levels Despite their smaller size, miniature Labradoodles need almost as much exercise as their larger labradoodle cousins. They need at least an hour of active exercise each day, preferably split into two 30 minute periods. In addition to formal exercise, they do best when they have some outdoor space at home that they can potter around in and use to let off a bit of energy throughout the day. Nothing will make these dogs happier than accompanying the family on hikes and other adventures. Thanks to their Lab parent they also love the water and tend to be excellent swimmers. Health Concerns A miniature labradoodle may live as little as 10 or as long as 18 years, which can be very difficult to predict, but you should expect your canine companion to be with you for quite some time. While they are generally healthy dogs, they can be predisposed to a few health conditions that pet parents should be aware of. The first is gastric dilation, which is basically bloating. Gaining weight can be an immediate sign of this, but it wreaks havoc with many of their systems. This is another good reason to watch what you feed them, and consult your vet about relevant medication. These collapses can be life-threatening, so it is important to monitor your dog during exercise and rein them in if they show any sign of muscle weakness or lack of coordination. Consult your vet for long-term treatment. This can also be a sign of centronuclear myopathy, which is not unknown in this breed. Hip dysplasia can be another common issue, which is exacerbated if you overexercise your dog as a puppy. Restrict exercise until they are fully grown to ensure against abnormal growth. Eye conditions including cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy are also pretty common, but most breeders should be screening for this. How To Find A Mini Labradoodle Puppy Labradoodles are a popular breed, so there are many active breeders, but finding one who specializes in miniature Labradoodles can be more challenging. Thankfully, there is a big community that loves this type of dog so there are many forums where you can ask around and get advice. Having read our guide to the miniature labradoodle, are you considering whether you should adopt one? Consider the following to make your final decision. This can lead to destructive frustration and serious depression. They do best in households when there is nearly always someone about, or when they can go to work with you. Their good behavior and low shedding mean that they are good dogs to take with you to other places. You also need to take the time to train these dogs, as they need lots of mental stimulation to keep them entertained. Are you willing to commit the time to their development? Despite their small size, these are high-energy dogs. As well as formal exercise, they will love joining you on weekend adventures and would rather be on the trail than sitting in front of the TV watching Netflix with you. Do you have the type of lifestyle that your dog will enjoy? Do You Have Kids? Miniature labradoodles are great with kids and they know how to both be protective and play gently. The key is to teach children how to treat dogs gently as well. They might not be the best fit for very young families just because they have lots of energy and need lots of attention. It can be a challenge to juggle the needs of young children and an energetic young pup at the same time. There are, however, lots of things to look out for to make sure these pups stay healthy and happy. They will bark during play or if they want to get your attention, but excessive barking is uncommon and is normally something that you should pay attention to. Do labradoodles chew furniture? These dogs do best when they have company for most of the day. Do labradoodles bond with one person? All dogs have a tendency to bond more strongly with one person than everyone else. We were having problems with him jumping on our boys and elderly dog. When he was returned on the third evening, we were given a private lesson, treat bag and leash. Let me just say, he is not perfect but he is a different dog! He listens to the commands he was taught, uses a leash, chewing way less and sleeps in his crate the entire night! Scissors Hot glue gun Paint your wood box and let dry. Give it another coat. Once that is dry, coat your valentine box with Mod Podge and let dry. This is optional, but I think a perfect Mod Podge formula for this is the Sparkle. It will be the perfect bling for the holiday! Cut the pug head out of the foam based on the colors in the pattern. Place the foam pieces on a piece of thicker paper, foam, or even a cereal box. Glue or hot glue the pieces down. Add the wiggly eyes with hot glue as well — plus the nose and tongue. Once your pug face is complete, cut out the head and glue it to the front of the box, right below the clasp leaving the top unglued. The clasp should be able to operate behind the head. Cut out one large hot for the top of the box — and several smaller hearts of various sizes to add to the rest of the box. Then glue the rest of the hearts on the box — and add little accents to the hearts with the Sharpie. Let dry before using. Kids can place the box on their desk and let the Valentines fill it up! Unlike other years, this year we procrastinated making a Valentine card box and pulled off a night-before-Valentine's Day miracle. My daughter couldn't decide what she wanted, and we accidentally threw out all of our boxes a few nights before. Then, the heavens opened up and we had, once again - a corn dog box to work with! As you've seen from our other Valentine boxes, the corn dog box is apparently our destined go-to for Valentine's Day. Ours measured about 4 inches wide and 2. Use the utility knife and carefully cut out the mouth shape. Wrap the box like you would a regular present, but keep the seams on the back and the sides so they won't show on the front. Use clear tape, and try to keep all the edges as smooth as you can. Feel for the hole of the mouth, then carefully cut an "X" from the corners of the mouth. Fold the paper inside and tape it down on the inside of the box. In case you didn't know, you can upload your own. If you are also using a corn dog box, the image size shouldn't need to be adjusted at all. Don't have a cutter? No problem! You can totally cut out the puppy face by hand or even paint it on!! Cut the design out of black, pink and red cardstock and attach to the box with a glue stick, or my a quick-drying glue like Aleene's Tacky Glue. For a more realistic-looking tongue, glue the circled edge down and fold the other end into the mouth and tape it down on the inside. If you are like us, you'll know that everything can always use a bit more sparkle! We didn't have enough time since we procrastinated , but you can definitely spray your Valentine box with some glitter spray or Glitter Mod Podge and let it dry completely. I'm sure the dollar stores have similar boxes too. I already had my square box, but those are at all the outlet and dollar stores too. Or you can pay the extra couple bucks and go to craft stores such as Michael's or Joann Fabrics. They should definitely have them there. Hot glue the round box onto the square box to make the shape of your doggie. Cut your mop strings off of the mop. We needed two of them to complete our doggie box. Before you cut the moppies off, be sure to have a little fun first : Jossy came up with this funny idea. Too funny. Okay, back to the moppies. Here's what our mop heads looked like. Just simply cut the mop strings off the middle connector thingy okay, there is no official term for that! Now you have a pile of moppies! Lay your doggie on it's side and start hot gluing your moppies on the box. It doesn't matter which side you start on. You'll be doing all sides on the body the square box first. You do not have to run the glue the entire length of the string. Once you have laid the first layer down on that side, it will look like this. You will have the mop strings hanging over the box. Simply trim them off. Save the strings, you'll be able to use them! Then it will look like this! Yay, it's starting to look like something now. Continue doing this for each side of the body box. Put a second layer on all the sides you just finished. This is where your shaggy effect will come in. The first layer serves as a base, but the second layer is what's really going to make your doggie look like a doggie. Put a tail on your doggie. Lay a pile of moppies on the table and use another moppie to tie it in half. Then glue it together. Simply hot glue where the middles will meet. Then glue it to the box where you want the tail to be. Now start your first layer on the top of the body box the doggie's back. Again, you will be gluing both the top and the bottom of the string. You want this layer to be secure and serve as a base coat. Do NOT trim all of the strings! The hang over moppies will serve as your second layer on the back of the box, which is your doggie's butt : You will only be trimming around the Valentine slot. Glue the moppies right up to the round box the doggie's head. Now it's time to glue your first layer around the sides of your round box. Again, glue the top and bottom of the string, where it will lay on the round box. Use LONG moppies for this step. The hang over moppies are going to finish off your shaggy dog look! When you're done, it will look like this. Now it's time to give the doggie a chin. You need to glue the hanging moppies to the underside of the round box. Flip the doggie upside down. This isn't going to look pretty. Your job is to just get those suckers glued under there. So just start gluing the moppies. You're gonna have moppies on top of moppies and tangled everywhere. Like I said, it's not gonna look pretty. Just glue whatever you have to to get them all secure. But when you flip Fido over, viola! You have a doggie head! With a chin! Now it's really starting to look like a doggie!! Glue moppies to the top of your doggie's head. This is the only first layer that you will in fact be running a glue line for the entire length of the string. So DON'T cut them! Time to make the doggie's ears! Lay a pile of moppies down on the table and cut the pile in half. Then take a mop string and tie it tight with a double knot at the top of the pile. You want it to be nice and level because you will be gluing that end to the top of the head. Smear hot glue all over the end that you just trimmed and place it on top of the head where you want the ears. AW, now we have ears! Time to put the second layer on top of the head. Okay, this is different than anything you've done so far. It should be fairly random. You want it to look like a shaggy dog so there really is no way to mess this up. His hair is supposed to look messy and curly. You just want to place 2 or 3 beads down so that the hair looks three dimensional and realistic. Continue until you're done with the whole top of the head. Add ribbons on your doggie's ears. Just tie a simple bow and adjust until you have it looking the way you want it. And don't forget to tie a ribbon on his tail too! It's time to bring your doggie to life! Add his face! Glue on your googly eyes. Then cut out a nose and a tongue from the felt and glue them on. Now you have a face! Aw, look how cute!
