When I took him home he was infested with worms, reeked like a New York City trash can and had hip dysplasia. It took months to rehabilitate and glue his broken shell back together. I remember standing at the door for 3 hours while he stood in my back yard not allowing me to get near him; he stood in the cold November rain and shivered. He wanted to come in so badly but was too afraid. I stood inside the kitchen soaking wet crying and begging him to come in. I finally had to get a bed sheet and with my husbands help cornered him and tossed the sheet over him. He was purchased from a well known breeder who offered a warranty and a guarantee on his health. We promptly started health testing him when he got home. Sadly he failed his OFA and was diagnosed with hip dysplasia. His breeder refuses even after receiving proof to honor her warranty. She herself admitted that she has never tested her dogs but yet sells them at a premium rate. Look for proof of testing. She never cried a day in her life for this dog. This is Sawyer, I cry when asked about him, he will always have a special place in my heart. I saw old rusted crates stacked along the drive, driving past a dog run out by some trees I saw a dog house and 4 small dogs, I parked next to a car port type structure that housed several cages stacked on top of one another in rows, inside the cages were chickens, rabbits, cats, ferrets and other small animals. There were several small shack like out buildings. I walked up to the door and knocked, no one answered but I had called 5 minutes prior so they knew I was there. I opened the door leaning inside to say Hello; looking around there were empty cages everywhere and bags of Purina stacked 10 or more bags high, empty bags and other trash scattered on the floor. Back out on the porch I called the breeder to alert them that I was there, looking up I was faced with 2 dobermans not looking very happy, I later learned that they were nice. I entered a room with a desk, sofa, 2 recliners, a TV, door covered with bed sheets and walls lined with dog crates stacked from floor to ceiling, wall to wall, filled with filthy dogs. I had arrived with enough cash to buy 4 dogs. In the cage above them I found Sawyer, then referred to as Prado. He was scared and my heart broke seeing him. I passed it up. I drove home with a pit in my stomach but vowed to take care of and do the right thing by those dogs. He has a dog brother who keeps him in line, he has been trained and know several tricks; can wave, high five, pray, dance, roll over… and many more. I get letters from Sawyer every few months and everyone of his letters makes me cry. He is doing great and is a good boy. I love you Sawyer. Another sad story starts with an Oregon breeder sending me a dog in whelp, the dog was due 2 weeks after she arrived. I took the fluffy white dog out of her crate at the airport holding her in the air to shine my smile upon her face and once again found myself looking into sad scared eyes. I took her to the vet to confirm her pregnancy and the vet told me what I already knew. I had her groomed to get her pee stained and matted coat into presentable shape; I was called by the groomer to tell me she had bit her. Took her home to have her a few days later bite my 11 year old daughter and to later have her bite a guest in my home and my vet the day I returned her to her breeder. Being told stories from clients about an Indiana breeder who is breeding a dog that was either hit by a car or stepped on, the story was told to me by multiple clients who claimed to visit the breeder and was told the dog had a funny limp and was skittish because of her accident, unfortunately the cause of the accident change based on who was visiting. Calls from other concerned customers who visited an Iowa breeder; was advised in order to visit she first had to pay for a puppy. Arriving to play with the puppies they found the adult dogs matted and dirty, so dirty even that to touch them or have the dogs brush up against them would soil their clothes and leave an awful stench. Hearing barking in a side room where they were able to gain a quick peek revealed dogs in crates stacked from floor to ceiling. Calls from a different client reported a visit to a neighboring Iowa breeder with a similar story. I will continue to report on stories from clients and my experiences with puppy mill breeders. Here are other dogs who were found in puppy mills across the United States. Please support ethical breeding and do not buy pets from pet stores or puppy mills. The Labradoodle is a companion dog and should not be raised in a kennel, they need human companionship and thrive on being loved. If you are unclear of what a puppymill is take a look at the pictures below. They are sickening and; REAL. This type of life for millions of poor unfortunate dogs are a reality everyday. For many dogs they are confined in conditions like this for their entire life until they are no longer able to breed to make their capturers money then they are killed. The dogs you see in these pictures are VERY lucky as they are being photographed because they were rescued. How can you help? Long time, no see! Where the heck did the time go? It's absolutely crazy that it's been over 8 years since I've hopped on to this blog and shared snippets of life here at Calypso Breeze Australian Labradoodles. A lot has happened in that time, good and bad. Let's get the bad right out of the way. A little less than a year after my last blog post, I lost my husband and Calypso Breeze Co-founder, Jerry, to cancer. It was, for the most part, very sudden and set my world into a tailspin. There have been many ups and downs and trials and triumphs in the years since, but the constant has been that Calypso Breeze remains a huge part of my life. In the first months after Jerry passed, life, of course, was extremely difficult. I'm not sure what I would've done without the love- and distraction- of my crazy doodles. They're sweet and silly, kind and goofy, sometimes exasperating, but ALWAYS entertaining, and most importantly, they're loving. They have, most likely, held me together and they've definitely made me stronger. THIS is why I've continued on my journey of breeding these incredible dogs. The connection they have with their human is undeniable and nothing less than amazing. There are many factors that affect how much water a dog drinks throughout the day. There are also many medical reasons dogs can have excessive thirst. Canned Food Diet Canned food contains more water than dry food, so dogs that eat canned food may drink less water. This is because they are getting a portion of their daily water intake from their food. They also tend to be more active and lose more water through vomiting or diarrhea. Geriatric dogs can also drink more or less due to cognitive dysfunction or medical issues. Medications Certain medications can cause increased thirst and urination. These medications include diuretics such as furosemide or torsemide , anti-seizure medications such as phenobarbital , and corticosteroids such as prednisone. Hot Climates Dogs that live in warmer areas can become dehydrated more easily, increasing their water intake requirements. Frequent Exercise or Increased Activity Dogs that exercise frequently will require more water to hydrate themselves. Puppies also might drink more water than adult dogs due to higher activity levels. Health Conditions Certain medical issues can lead to excessive thirst. The most common reasons include: Electrolyte Imbalances Sodium or salt imbalances can lead to increased thirst and urination in dogs. Sodium draws water to it, and the kidneys will not hold or store water appropriately if there is an imbalance of sodium and potassium in the water. Dehydration, high-sodium meals, certain toxins , and other medical conditions can cause electrolyte issues. Dehydration Heat, exercise, and illness can all cause dehydration and lead to water-seeking behavior. Signs associated with dehydration can include lethargy, tacky gums, ropy saliva, bright red gums , excessive panting , and skin tenting. Vomiting or Diarrhea These can lead to dehydration, causing a dog to drink more water. If the gastrointestinal signs are frequent, severe, or persistent, seek veterinary care. Kidney Failure Kidney failure or renal failure is a chronic progressive condition defined as the inability of the kidneys to efficiently filter waste products. As toxins filter out from the bloodstream, they draw excess water with them, which may lead to increased urination. This in turn causes dehydration and an increase in water intake. Kidney failure ranges in severity, depending on how advanced it is. In the early stages, only monitoring and diet change may be needed. For more severe kidney failure, hospitalization may be required. Diabetes Mellitus Diabetes is a disease where the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or the body stops responding the insulin produced. This causes a rise in blood sugar glucose levels. The body tries to eliminate excessive sugar through the urine, and the glucose draws water with it. Increased thirst and urination are the first clinical signs of diabetes noted by dog owners. Untreated diabetes mellitus can lead to a potentially fatal condition called diabetic ketoacidosis. Diabetes Insipidus Diabetes insipidus is a rare condition in dogs causing excessive thirst and large amounts of urine. Despite drinking large amounts of water, these dogs can often become dehydrated from the amount of urine they are producing. Though frustrating, this condition does not require immediate medical therapy. This causes increased thirst and urination. Other clinical signs include a pot-belly appearance, panting, thin skin, hair loss, and increased hunger. It is often diagnosed by the presence of symptoms. Pyometra This life-threatening condition is an infection of the uterus in female dogs that have not been spayed. Dogs will often drink more water to compensate for the increase in urination. Pyometra often has other symptoms, such as pus originating from the vulva, fever, lethargy, changes in appetite, and vomiting. Pyometra is fatal if left untreated, due to the infection spreading throughout the body sepsis. Liver Infection Bacterial infection of the liver most commonly caused by infection with Leptospirosis leads to increased urine production and increased thirst. This infection is fatal if left untreated. Leptospirosis is passed through infected rodent urine and is most commonly found in stagnant water puddles or ponds. There is a vaccine that protects dogs against this infection. If your dog has been drinking a lot of water or been recently swimming in a pond or drinking out of rain puddles, and they are not up to date on their Leptospirosis vaccination, get them to a veterinarian as soon as possible for testing and treatment. Dogs will often drink water when they have an upset tummy. Though we are unsure if this is to give them relief or to induce vomiting, it occurs frequently. This can be secondary to many medical issues, including mild inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract gastroenteritis , pancreatitis , inflammatory bowel disease , foreign body obstruction , and cancers. These signs together can be caused by dehydration, allergies, pain, or even behavioral issues, including anxiety , stress, or cognitive dysfunction the dog version of dementia. Dogs that drink a lot of water will often urinate a lot. This is partially due to how the body processes water—such that if the dog is drinking a high volume of water, then a high volume of water is being processed in the kidneys, and a high volume of urine is produced. Dogs may excessively drink water at night for all of the above medical issues, but this can also be caused by: Dehydration Cognitive dysfunction High-sodium treats or food at night Not enough water available during the day, especially if a dog is crated during the day with no water bowl. Dry air—You may notice your dog drinks more at night when the heat goes on in your home. This is due to drying out of the air. Consider using a humidifier where your dog sleeps to help alleviate this behavior. When to Go to the Vet for Excessive Thirst in Dogs It can be difficult to know when to bring your dog to the veterinarian when it comes to excessive thirst. If excessive thirst is paired any of the following symptoms, then is it extremely important to get your pet evaluated as soon as possible: Vomiting. Increased water intake is often typical for growing puppies as their kidneys continue to develop. Because of this, it is important to provide access to fresh and clean water for your puppy. Still curious why your puppy drinks a lot of water? Read on as we discuss the normal water intake of puppies, why puppies tend to drink more water, and the risks associated with overdrinking! The amount of water a puppy needs can vary depending on factors such as their size, age, activity level, and the weather. For example, a pound puppy would require 5 to 10 ounces of water daily. As a result, they may have an increased thirst compared to adult dogs. During puppyhood, their kidneys cannot properly concentrate urine which leads to the increased frequency of urination until around 11 to 16 weeks of age. As their bodies grow, they also require water to support the development and proper functioning of their organs. Because of this, it may be difficult to keep your puppies properly hydrated. This condition occurs when the concentration of sodium in the bloodstream becomes diluted, causing issues such as lethargy, vomiting, seizures, and even coma. When Is Overdrinking a Cause for Concern? However, certain situations may warrant closer attention. Additionally, if your puppy exhibits signs such as frequent urination, excessive panting, weight loss, or changes in behavior, these could be indicators of an underlying health issue that requires professional evaluation. To help you recognize the signs of overhydration and excessive drinking, here are some common presentations to look out for: Lethargy or weakness. Their body is becoming low on water and they must drink to make up the losses. When they pant a lot, they lose water through evaporation. This water loss is physiologic and can be readily replenished by drinking. Excess water intake that goes beyond a normal amount, or that occurs without cause, may be a sign of disease. In a variety of conditions the body is not able to control water loss even at normal temperatures. This water loss must be replenished and so dogs drink a lot to find a balance. How much water intake is normal in a healthy dog? Generally, water intake will vary a little with diet. If dogs are fed wet food , they may drink less, while dogs that are fed dry food or salty treats must make up water intake and seem to drink more than expected. However, this water intake is still physiologically normal. In fact, increased intake is often a response to excess fluid loss in urine. If your dog is drinking excessively polydipsia it is possibly because he is losing excess amounts of water for any of a number of reasons. An uncommon cause of dogs drinking more is called psychogenic polydipsia. It is a behavioral condition with a physical manifestation of excess thirst. Primary polydipsia is used to describe excessive water drinking that is not due to illness or psychosis: bored puppies or water loving breeds may tank up on water occasionally or consistently. Sorting these out can be a real challenge for your veterinarian. Some medications , such as cortical steroids often have increased water intake as a side effect. How should increased thirst and drinking be managed? Drinking excessive amounts of water often is associated with increased urination. While drinking a lot of water is a sign of health problems, increased urination can be a real problem for you to live with since affected dogs often urinate inappropriately. The first and most important step in addressing excessive drinking is to diagnose and confirm the underlying condition with your veterinarian. Many of the conditions associated with excess thirst are very serious and must be addressed as soon as possible:. Signs of dehydration in dogs. The average medium sized dog will drink around half a gallon of water a day. Water intake is a good indicator of overall health and gives early warning signs of certain medical conditions. It is important to know what is normal for your Labrador and what to look out for when they start drinking more or less than usual. However, our lives can get busy, and sometimes, we might not notice a change in drinking behavior. This can be done by filling up their water bowl to the same level at the same time each day. Then, notice how much is left when you go to refill it the next day. Checking the water level at the same time each day will give you an accurate representation of how much your dog drinks. As a rough guideline, normal water intake for a dog is around an ounce per pound 50 mL per kg of body weight per day. That means that a pound 30 kg Labrador would drink approximately half a gallon 1. What Makes Labradors Drink More? There are several factors that can affect the normal water intake mentioned above, including the following. Diet Your Labrador always needs fresh water available no matter what their diet; however, how much they drink will depend on the type of food they eat. Dogs that eat predominantly dry food and kibbles require more water than dogs on a wet food diet. It is perfectly normal for a Labrador or any dog on a canned or raw diet to drink less water than one on an exclusively dry food diet. Weather Water helps regulate body temperature. Dogs pant to cool themselves down by exhaling and releasing water through respiration. To compensate for this release of water, your Labrador will drink more in warmer weather. Activity Level When we exercise, we lose water through sweating and tend to drink more to make up for it. Dogs also require rehydration after exercise since they will have panted more than normal to help themselves cool down. If your Labrador naturally has high energy and activity levels, they will require more water than a couch-potato pup. Medications and Supplements Many common medications and supplements have side effects that may cause changes in daily water intake. Common anti-inflammatories, heart medications, and seizure medications can all lead to increased thirst and urination. It is important to be aware of these potential side effects and ask your veterinarian what to expect. My Labrador Is Drinking More than Normal When a dog is drinking more than usual, the first step is to rule out any obvious external factors as mentioned above. While you may think that drinking lots of water is pretty harmless, too much of anything is bad, including water. Excess water consumption can have a sudden onset and can be life threatening. By monitoring your Labradors water intake regularly, you can judge subtle changes and be aware of when to contact your veterinarian. My Labrador Is Drinking Too Much There are several things to look for if you suspect your Labrador may be drinking too much, possibly leading to overhydration. These include loss of coordination and staggers, lethargy and nausea, bloat and vomiting, dilated pupils and pale gums, and excessive drooling. If left to develop, these signs can lead to difficulty breathing and collapse. Dogs that spend a lot of time in or around water may be drinking from other sources or consuming water incidentally. If your dog plays in water, they may be consuming water while fetching items or biting at the water. Similarly, if they like to be sprayed or drink from a hose, consider that water intake when evaluating their overall consumption. My Labrador Is Drinking Too Little If your Labrador suddenly decreases their water consumption, they are at risk of becoming dehydrated. Just like with drinking too much water, not drinking enough water will cause harmful imbalances in the body. Water is vital for many functions, such as carrying nutrients throughout the body, aiding in digestion, and removing toxins from the system. Dehydration ultimately causes essential organs such as the kidneys and liver to stop functioning properly. If left in this state for too long, there can be irreversible damage to these organs. Signs of Dehydration in Dogs There are two easy ways to keep an eye on your Labradors hydration levels at home. It is beneficial to do these tests on your healthy Labrador so that you are aware of their baseline. In a healthy dog, after the skin is lifted it should snap back to its original position almost instantaneously. The longer the delay, the more dehydrated your dog is. Mucous Membranes The mucous membranes include the eyes, nose and mouth. They also serve as an indicator of adequate hydration levels. If he is dehydrated, the gums may appear pale and feel dry and tacky when touched. If your dog tends to not drink enough and your vet has given her a clean bill of health, here are a few ideas to encourage drinking. Place her water bowl in places she likes to be. Praise her when she drinks water. Add chicken or bone broth to her water, but be sure to keep it fresh. Consider adding wet food to her diet. Soak dry food with water or broth before feeding. Consider getting a pet drinking fountain to make it fun be sure to keep it clean.

Vet visits, injections and health checks are all too often in the early stages and, following all that, the final decision you have to make is whether or not to have your Labradoodle spayed or neutered. Spayed or Neutered? The procedure usually involves cutting a small incision in the abdomen. Whilst recommendations vary, vets typically suggest that you should have your Labradoodle spayed or neutered between the ages of four and nine months. This is thought to have long-term health benefits, as well as helping to prevent behavioural traits, such as marking and aggression. Whilst some recommend spaying before first heat as young as five months , others suggest that this can increase the risk of mammary tumours. We would always recommend consulting your vet for a personalised opinion. There are rumours that spaying or neutering changes the personality of your pet. However, experts have said that this is not at all true. There are many reasons why you should have your Labradoodle spayed or neutered, not least of all because it will likely improve their quality of life and stop you from worrying about a litter of puppies. Spaying is proven to reduce the risk of breast cancer and uterine infections, and neutering similarly prevents testicular cancer. So, if you want to prevent these major Labradoodle killers, neutering and spaying is a sure fire way. Neutering your male Labradoodle will also ensure that he is on his best behaviour at all times. Neutering prevents aggressive and territorial behaviours, and also means that he wont be spending his entire walk hunting for a partner. So, if you want to prevent these embarrassments, get your Labradoodle neutered early on! See also Is Your Labradoodle Bored? Millions of animals are euthanised every year because there are simply not enough willing owners to cater for endless litters of puppies. Having this done will prevent unwanted litters and ultimately save the lives of millions of baby Labradoodle that would end up in shelters. Remember… No, the procedure is not painful. Female Labradoodles can reproduce as young as four months old, and male Labradoodles can as of six months. In a study , researchers found that neutered Retrievers are twice as likely to develop any joint diseases, and it showed it is worse for neutered Goldendoodles. These golden beauties were found to be four times as likely to have hip dysplasia or any other type of joint disease. The study shows that the longer you wait to neuter or spay your dog, the less likely your dog is to develop any problems with their joints. The Limitations of These Studies There is obviously always the possibility of bias or errors in every study ever made. The studies may or may not answer the question about the best age to neuter a Labradoodle or Goldendoodle. This can also be said for the study done on German Shepherds. In addition to the limitations on how comparable the different breeds are, it is also important to be on guard for any the potential bias in the studies. What can we learn from these studies about the best age to neuter a Labradoodle? What makes these studies quite reliable, is that the number of studies that are discovering the same results are increasing every year, and thereby giving more credibility to the findings. Likewise, the fact that several breeds including Labradoodles and Goldendoodles are finding similar results, allows us to start generalizing when talking about different breeds. This shows that this might be a general canine issue rather than just an issue with some specific breed. All these studies tell us what the most likely outcome is when talking about lots of different dogs. My Monty when we got him In your specific dog, it is not possible to get a specific and guaranteed answer as there are deviations in every study ever made. And perhaps your dog is one of those deviations. I am not such a person. I believe that any person should, after examining all these studies, put off neutering or spaying a dog until they are at least one year old. The best age to neuter a Labradoodle or Goldendoodle is as late as you can but wait at least one year. Final Summary Regarding Females If you wait with spaying a female there are some risks involved. But if treated properly in time, it is thankfully curable. If you have a Labradoodle or Goldendoodle as a service dog, then neutering your Doodle will avoid the inconvenience of cycles twice a year. This is something to really consider if you rely on your dog for everyday routines such as a guiding service or using it for working situations like hunt trials and so on. But as we established earlier, if you neuter your dog too early it can leave her susceptible to a wide variety of cancers and also some orthopedic disorders. We are located in the beautiful quaint town of Brownsville, Oregon with our main location as well as the picturesque town of Sisters, Oregon. We also deliver our puppies all over the US as well as locally for additional fees. Can I have my puppy transported to me or must I pick it up? We prefer to have you pick your puppy up at our location in Brownsville, Oregon, however, we recognize that in some cases this is not possible and you may request to have your puppy transported to you. The following are options we advise: For those located in Central Oregon, we will meet you in Sisters, Oregon for no additional charge. We also can hand deliver your puppy to your nearest airport, but this option is based on our availability as well as flight options. This option is always our preferred method as it provides the maximum care for your puppy from our team. You may also fly to our local airport and fly back with your puppy as a carry-on after 8-weeks of age if you choose this option. We are open to meeting at our local airport for pickup if this is the option you prefer. The local airport is EUG. If you choose PDX there will be a small delivery fee. We also have worked with pet couriers who will drive the puppy to you, but this is all negotiated with the company chosen. We do have recommendations on this option. While our families have a big part in the matching process, we do all of our puppy matching with each family. We work with each puppy from birth until 7-weeks of age to learn their individual personalities and characteristics. While all of our puppies are similar, every puppy has unique personalities that make them who they are. Our goal is to communicate closely with every family throughout the process to find exactly what they are looking for in a puppy, what their plans are for the puppy activities, training, etc , as well as their overall experience with a dog. All throughout the process we will be closely evaluating our puppies. When the puppies are 6-weeks of age we will be sending out a detailed video where we talk about each puppy individually. At this time we also send out a brief questionnaire where we ask additional questions about your hopes for a puppy as well as if there are any puppies that stand out to you or any that you are not interested in. At this stage, we compile all of the information and then make our puppy allocations to each family. Our goal is to match each family with the puppy that will thrive in their home. We believe strongly that our care and method for matching is a great way to match you up with a fantastic puppy who enriches your home. While every puppy needs to be trained and taught how to function within what each owner wants, we spend countless hours with each litter every day to learn behaviors, characteristics, and tendencies. With our over 18 years of experience matching Labradoodles with their forever homes we have found that personality fits are far more important than looks or gender interests. We feel this is the best way to match you with a puppy that meets what you would like and that has a temperament best suited for your family. We raise our puppies with multiple methodology, but one of the biggest contributors is Puppy Culture. We give our puppies the best start possible by daily putting each puppy through early neurological stimulation. The tendencies and characteristics we see daily show us a baseline of their temperaments in how they have acted throughout their first 7-weeks of life during different situations we place them in. On their 7-week birthday, we give them a soothing bath and blow-dry. We watch them and score each puppy based on how they handle water, hand drying, and blow-drying. All of our dogs have great personalities, but it takes a special personality to be a therapy or service dog. We work with the remaining candidates to see how they do with the following things we feel are essential in choosing a perfect candidate for a therapy or service dog: Retrieving — The puppy needs to retrieve simple items when thrown or dropped near them. This includes showing us a strong nose. Recovery — We need to be able to get the dogs attention quickly following a startling experience for them. Being able to redirect a dog is essential for this work. Greeting — We want a puppy that does not run to us immediately. We want a puppy that pauses, evaluates the scene, and then approaches with intention and caution. Submission — When we flip the puppy over on its back on the ground and keep our hand on its chest we want to see submission, not an attempt to wiggle out or a look of caution or fear. Following — We want a puppy who will follow us with their eyes while watching us and also follow us through the yard if set down off-leash. Forgiveness — We pinch the puppy between its paws, pull its legs, grab its tail, pinch ears, etc. None of this is malicious but mildly uncomfortable for the dog. Quick forgiveness is essential. There are many other little things we look for in this matching process, but this is just a snapshot to give you insight into how detailed we are in choosing our puppies for our customers. We feel confident we will find you a great choice in our litters. After we have matched each puppy with their future family we will send an email out with their final photoshoot as well as information about this puppy. Due to the safety of our puppies, we do not accept visitors during this matching process see below for the reasons for not visiting our facility before puppy pick-up day. We stay in communication with each family on our reservations lists and try to verify every characteristic, color, and gender requests you may have. The process from birth to matching is an opportunity for us to understand you a bit more as a customer and aiming to match you with not just any puppy, but one of the best! We want to make sure you get the perfect puppy that will enrich your home. Applications are filled in the order received once approved and the deposit is paid. Can we visit your home and see your puppies and breeding dogs? We do have strict limitations. We are very concerned about the health and well-being of our puppies so we have decided it is in their best interest for overall health and wellness to not have visitors interacting with puppies prior to puppy pick up date. The reason for our caution is for the overall safety of our puppies. It is also not fair to a new mama to expect her to tolerate visitors while she is doing her best to care for and protect her babies. However, holding puppies is not something that we will do. We can pick a puppy up for you to show you something of interest or see the puppy closer, but all handling of the puppies will be done by the Mountain View team only. As to the parent dogs, all of our breeding dogs live in guardian homes so that they live a normal family dog life and the only time they are here with us is either when they are breeding or delivering a litter of puppies and raising them. This is a fabulous way for our breeding dogs to be able to live a normal life and not in kennels. All of our puppies are whelped at our home under our loving care and experience. We try to do our very best to provide quality portraits of all of our breeding dogs and constant updates of our puppies through our emails and social media. This way you can still see and connect with the litter while helping us keep them safe! If you would like further pictures of our dog space prior to working with us please ask. This allows you the option of having it done earlier if you choose to, but it is done before your puppy reaches sexual maturity. After countless years of personal study and consultation with multiple vets and breeders both locally and nationally we feel this is in the best health interest of your puppy and will prevent any unplanned, unwanted litters of puppies. This is a non-negotiable policy and we will enforce our contract. We believe this policy allows you the option of choosing when works best for your family and puppy during those first 8-months. Please understand this policy prior to submitting an application. As for the males, they can sexually mature and sire a litter of unwanted puppies as early as 7 months of age. Neutering them prior to 8 months can also prevent them from developing some of those unwanted male traits of lifting their leg to potty, humping objects, and being overly interested in the girls while also ensuring they are not accidentally siring any litters. We feel this is in the best interest of the both the male and female dog and a very healthy option. Your vet may disagree with this stance and we encourage you to find a vet that will honor this policy prior to even receiving your puppy. This policy is non-negotiable and something we will enforce. There are many things that you will need to consider, such as the food you are going to feed, training, and when you are going to have your Labradoodle spayed or neutered. Are you trying to figure out the best age to spay or neuter your Labradoodle? This can all depend on many different factors. A male Labradoodle should be spayed between 6 and 12 months of age. Female Labradoodles that will be less than 45 pounds as adults should be spayed at around 4 to 6 months of age. Your vet can also discuss all the pros and cons of spaying and neutering your Labradoodle early vs. Neutering is often used to remove the testicles in your male Labradoodle, but technically, it means to make your dog gender neutral so it can be used for a male or female. The most common age your vet will recommend spaying or neutering your Labradoodle is when they are around 6 months old. There are many different factors that will influence when you should spay and neuter your Labradoodle. Large to giant breed dogs will mature later in their life, and some people will want to wait until the dog is a few months older so that they are fully mature before spaying and neutering them. They recommend a different age for different size dogs. Smaller dogs under 45 pounds : Your vet will advise that you should spay your Labradoodle before their first heat cycle. Most dogs will have their first heat cycle anywhere between 5 and 10 months. Your vet will advise that your female dog be spayed prior to their first cycle to help reduce their risk of having mammary cancer. Larger Dogs Over 50lbs : Some vets may advise larger Labradoodle to wait until they are 5 to 15 months old. It may also decrease the chance that your dog develops urinary incontinence.
