There are too many factors to consider, age of dog, quality of breeding, your location in the country, I agree that it's not realistic to give a guess on price. However, the only reason I chose to answer this post has to do with something else: the health of the dog, or, more specifically, the health of pugs. IF you are insistent on getting a pug, then the question of health becomes complicated. This is because showbreeding, aka "purebred" breeding, has so radically altered the physical characteristics of the breed. For the worse. And, the AKC mindset is exactly what has brought pugs to this perilous place. Pugs are unhealthy dogs because of how they are bred to look. For the sake of appearance, people are breeding dogs whose every day is uncomfortable and painful. I'll back this up in a minute. I TEND to agree with oregon on this, but not entirely. AKC breeders, mostly, do care about how their dogs are bred: bloodlines, health, all that. But some will be breeding pugs for flat faces, and this is bad. Pugs years ago were a different breed. They had short snouts, but not brachycephalic short faces that actually cause the dog's brain to develop differently because there is no room for it in the skull. This is from Science and Dogs: Pugs are "another extreme brachycephalic breed and it has all the problems associated with that trait — high blood pressure, heart problems, low oxygenation, difficulty breathing, tendency to overheat, dentition problems, and skin fold dermatitis. The highly desirable double-curl tail is actually a genetic defect, in more serious forms it leads to paralysis. But people will, anyway. So, if you are looking at an unregistered pug who happens to have bad form by pug standards, and doesn't have a particularly flat nose and bug eyes? Get a vet to carefully examine the dog for other defects and issues. You've been told the potential health issues. Some people, with both registered and UNregisted dogs, will be breeding to "improve" those looks with even flatter faces. If you have to have a pug, avoid those people like the plague. Try to find a dog whose parents don't wheeze, sneeze, and whiffle from trotting across the room. If you must get a pug, then you might be better off by going AKC, where you will find breeders who are more attentive and caring than somebody's neighbor who happened to let her pug breed accidentally. But personally, in this case, I wouldn't care if the dog wasn't "purebred", as it might actually be healthier than a purebred pug. Take a look at that page I linked. Or do an online search for "pugs years ago" - there are more images out there. Lots of them on clickbait sites, so have a caution not to click ads, but the pictures can be found.
