Is the Pug the Right Breed for you? Low Maintenance: Infrequent grooming is required to maintain upkeep. No trimming or stripping needed. Constant Shedding: Routine brushing will help. Be prepared to vacuum often! Patience and perseverance are required to adequately train it. Slightly Active: Not much exercise is required to keep this dog in shape. Owners who are frequently away or busy might find this breed suitable for their lifestyle. Good for New Owners: This breed is well suited for those who have little experience with dog ownership. Good with Kids: This is a suitable breed for kids and is known to be playful, energetic, and affectionate around them. Care Though playful and rambunctious, the Pug is a low-maintenance companion, making it ideal for older owners. Because they are a small, quiet breed and are relatively inactive when indoors, they are a good choice for apartment dwellers as well. Light sleepers may also want to invest in a pair of ear plugs — Pugs are prone to snoring. Note: How much your adult dog eats depends on his size, age, build, metabolism, and activity level. It almost goes without saying that a highly active dog will need more than a couch potato dog. These dogs love to eat, eat, eat. This, combined with their small stature, puts them at risk for obesity. As a Pug owner, you must show great restraint. Do not indulge him with food. Feed appropriate portions, limit treats and encourage exercise. However, children who want an active pet to retrieve balls or play soccer will be disappointed with a Pug. Adults should always supervise interactions between children and pets. Properly trained and socialized, the Pug enjoys the companionship of dogs, and can be trusted with cats, rabbits, and other animals and more over all my puppies like to play with their toys , kids and other pets ok What Kind Of Food? Generally speaking, puppy food is higher in protein and enriched with vitamins, minerals, and fats essential for growth—that is, when compared to dog food made by the same manufacturer. Still, ingredients across brands can vary greatly. In most cases, you get what you pay for. Consider breed-formulated food. Large-breed puppy formulas help bigger pups grow at a rate gradual enough that they have time to develop strong bones and joints. And, yes, medium-breed formulas aim somewhere in between. This passion and quality for excellence is seen through our home.Is it really safe for the puppy? I receive many inquiries on the process of shipping a puppy— individuals often wonder if it is safe and how it works. How long does it take? This is how I explain the shipping process to individuals to help them feel more at ease with the process of getting a puppy: Shipping a Puppy Is Very safe: See Below Details Shipping a puppy by itself to a new location always sounds cruel and embarrassing, but actually I think it is harder for us than the puppy s. With my many years of shipping experience, I know for a fact that all of the pups are well taken care of. So if you stop and think about it, the airlines are not going to mistreat the puppy s for fear of lawsuits and customer dissatisfaction. I tape puppy s food and feeding instructions to the top of the crate and put frozen water in the crate, so it will gradually thaw out for the puppy s and the puppies are offered food along the ride. The average flight is approximately 2 to 5 hours. I always ask about any delays or layovers and know the exact times and departures of the flights, so I know where the pup is and am able to give you the information as well. The pup will arrive the same day as it is sent—usually a few hours. What about shipping in the winter —is it not too cold? Puppies can be shipped safely between 20 and 85 degrees—AA rules. All puppies ride in the belly of the plane where the temperature is kept at a comfortable 70 degrees—same as for the passengers—and they are the last on and first off the plane. Shipping during this time of year is completely safe and there is no problem so we need not to be afraid about that. The only thing different about this time of year is that the airlines can be strict on the minimum temperature at each location which is really good for the puppy s even though the plane is always kept at 70 degrees. I believe it is mainly for their liability and protection. Likewise, in the summertime—they will not ship if temperatures are too hot along the way. Most shippers specialized in shipping pets will use a temperature regulation crate called an electronic crate. These type of crates are used anytime since they can regulate the temperature to the one best for the puppy s travel What is involved in the shipping process? Since I am 30 minutes from my nearest airport and do not charge extra for delivery like most breeders, I try to make each trip count as much as possible by taking multiple puppies at a time while striving to accommodate to your specified times. So if you are interested in having one of the pups after all amounts have been received, I am able to book the pup. I will need to know the day s and time s you are able to pick up the puppy s at your nearest airport, and your home address and phone number. Usually, I can only book a flight a day in advance so they are aware of the temperatures for shipping. Our Customer Reviews Hello, Tuna was a blessing to our family this year. These Goldens have a long golden coat that can vary slightly in the shade. They stand at the same height as adult American Golden Retrievers, with males being inches tall and females being .Canadian Goldens are also the same in weight, with males being pounds and females pounds. Overall, Canadian Goldens and American Goldens are the same dogs in different locations. While very similar to American Goldens, they do have some subtle differences. The British Golden is typically a lighter shade of gold than the American type. The standard weight for British Golden Retrievers is not specified, but most weigh anywhere between 55 to 70 pounds. British Golden Retrievers are highly devoted, friendly, and intelligent. Many breeders report that British Golden has fewer potential health conditions like hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia than the American or Canadian versions. Still, there are no studies to confirm this. The English Cream Golden has a very pale cream to white coat shorter and thicker than standard American Goldens. They have a stockier build, with males standing around inches tall and females standing approximately inches. There is some debate about whether mini Golden Retrievers should really be considered a type of Golden, as they are technically crossbreeds. Since mini Golden Retrievers are hybrid breeds, they have no actual breed specifications. Their coat color can vary from light cream to dark gold or red, with extreme variations in length. Their heights vary, but most are under 20 inches tall, males and females. Their weights can vary as well, typically staying anywhere between 30 and 50 pounds. Miniature Golden Retrievers are excellent for anyone who desires certain personality traits of a Golden Retriever without the medium-to-large size. With that said, mini Goldens do not always take on the friendly, happy-go-lucky nature of purebred Goldens. Since they are crossbred, they can have attributes of other breeds. Purebred Black Golden Retrievers do not exist but can essentially be created by mixing any variation of a Golden with a black Labrador, Newfoundland, or other breeds. The coat, height, and weight of a black Golden will vary because it is actually a mixed breed. Since many Goldens are bred with Labradors, they would likely be of medium-to-large build, with males or females anywhere between 50 to 75 pounds. Some Goldens may even be mixed with Newfoundlands, which would result in a much larger dog, weighing 80 to pounds or more. Be the first to know when we have new puppies! All Rights Reserved. Your new furry friend has a lot of growing to do, and you probably have a lot of questions. Your Golden Retriever puppy will go through a number of developmental stages throughout their first twelve weeks. Male Golden Retrievers generally weigh between 65 and 75 pounds and stand from 23 to 24 inches tall. Females are generally smaller weighing between 55 to 65 pounds, and will grow to stand .At 4 months, your Golden Retriever puppy will reach about half their adult height. When it comes to mental development, it can take even longer than that before the Golden Retriever is fully mature. However, every puppy is a unique individual, and these are merely milestone guidelines. Disparities exist between the working and show Goldens, as well as between males and females. Golden Retriever puppy growth can also be quite sporadic. As an overall average, many Golden Retriever puppies will weigh just approximately 1. Golden Retrievers are classified as a gundog breed, and these dogs are often divided into those bred for show and those meant for work. However, the body of the show Golden is typically larger, taller, heavy-boned, and fuller in the chest. Small Parents Like people, puppies inherit physical traits from their parents. And even puppies from the same litter can vary in size. Neither of these scenarios is healthy for a puppy. Larger breeds like the Golden Retriever are more at risk for growth disorders than small breed dogs. This article will give you a lot more information on how much to feed, what to feed, and how often to feed a Golden Retriever puppy. Illness and Puppy Growth If a puppy has been seriously ill for a prolonged period, it may affect their ability to grow normally. However, once the puppy is free of worms, they should continue to grow at a normal rate. The best way to determine if your puppy is too thin or too fat is by how he looks and feels. When looking at your puppy from above, he should have a noticeable waistline. Another way to tell is by putting your hands on either side of his ribcage. You should be able to feel his ribs using a gentle pressure. But if his ribs are visible, he could be underweight. Obesity is a huge problem for many dog breeds. Although there are ways to make your puppy grow bigger, this is not something you should attempt. It could also mean you end up with a fat puppy. One of the best ways to ensure your puppy has a long, healthy life is to ensure he stays at an optimal weight. Hip and elbow dysplasia and other musculoskeletal disorders are associated with excess weight in larger breeds. Having your dog neutered at a young age can also cause them to grow taller. The problem is, this can also cause abnormalities in joint formation. Neutering also makes Golden Retrievers more at risk for certain types of cancers. Typically it will take approximately 18 months for your Golden Retriever to become an adult dog. Even though they can reach their full height at anywhere from 9 to 12 months, it will usually take them longer to fill out to their full weight. Remember that there are wide variations in size within the Golden Retriever breed. If this is the case, you should contact your veterinarian to seek advice. Beginning the puppy development stages before birth Puppy development stages week by week Amazingly, in a way the puppy development stages begin before your dog is even born. Your puppy spends approximately 9 weeks developing inside his Mom. The mother dog has a womb or uterus, that has two long tubes, and the puppies grow in a row along each tube rather like peas in a pod. The puppies are joined to their mother by a placenta which provides all the nourishment they need for those few weeks. To begin with, the puppies have plenty of room to move but they grow fast and as the time for birth draws near they are packed in quite tightly. The one week old puppy Your puppy is born fully furred but with his eyes and ears closed so he cannot hear or see. His front feet are strong and he can pull himself towards his mother with them. He can cry if he is uncomfortable and his mother will respond to his cries by moving him towards her and licking him. Your puppy spends most of his time sleeping or suckling. He cannot regulate his own body temperature and needs his mother for heat, or an artificial heat source. In the first week to ten days of his life your puppy grows rapidly and will double his birth weight. His forelegs are getting much stronger. She licks the puppies bottoms to stimulate a bowel or bladder movement and eats the result. There is no cleaning up for the breeder to do yet. The breeder will begin to handle the puppies more though, and get them used to human contact. She will worm the puppies for the first time at the end of this week. Puppies begin to get their personalities. Your puppy can stand and sit up by the end of the week. Tails can be wagged, ears will be completely open and puppies start play growling and interacting with their littermates. Your puppy can regulate his body temperature more effectively and will start to cut his first teeth in preparation for weaning. The front teeth, canines and incisors are cut first. Toward the end of the week he may have his first tiny taste of puppy food. They also start to move away from the sleeping area to empty their bowels and bladder. They may try to climb out of the whelping box. If she lives indoors, she may rejoin the family for more of each day. Your puppy will cut his back teeth and the breeder will get weaning underway this week and by the end of it, your puppy will be getting quite a bit of his nourishment from puppy food. She will also worm the puppies a second time. If the mother is allowed near the puppies after she has been fed, she may regurgitate her dinner for them. This is completely natural and normal. He is a proper little dog. Rolling around with his brothers and sisters and playing with toys. Teething toys, puppy Kongs, balls and rope toys are big favorites with puppies. He can bark too and some puppies can be quite noisy at this age! He chases after his mother whenever she appears and suckles hungrily, but she is starting to get fed up with it, and may be reluctant to feed her brood for very long. His mother is teaching him not to bite too hard. If he lives in outdoor kennels he should spend part of each day indoors with the family. By the end of the sixth week, most are fully weaned, and eating five or six little meals of puppy food each day. Socialization must begin in earnest. He is now two months old and ready for his new life. It is the time during which they become fearful of anything unfamiliar and need to be thoroughly socialized. This is also the time during which most puppies get to grips with house-training, learning to wait before eliminating and start sleeping through the night without a potty break. It is a busy time for new puppy owners. Your puppy will have his vaccinations during this month. Biting can be a big problem during this stage and you need to be patient and consistent in order to teach the puppy not to hurt people when he plays. Provided you use force free methods, this is a great time to get puppy training under way, and especially to teach a puppy recall, and to get your puppy used to working with food. So, for a 2. You can do the same calculation for medium pups at sixteen weeks and large breed pups at 20 weeks — just divide his weight by his age in weeks before you multiply by .Medium to large pups will reach about half their adult height by the end of the month. If the weather is warm you can get your puppy swimming now. He should be able to come when he is called, in and around your home, provided there are not too many distractions. It all depends on what you have taught him. He may still be chewing a lot and biting too. Use frozen Kongs to help him and give your furniture and fingers a break. Puppies can go for short walks now. By the end of this month your puppy could have a twenty minute walk each day. He may also enjoy fetching a ball and playing with other dogs, but take care to stop before he gets very tired. Less dependence This is the month during which some puppies start to become less dependent on their humans for security. Keep your puppy close to you outdoors by changing direction frequently so that you puppy has to keep coming to find you. And engaging him in games. The foundations of a great recall are often build or spoilt during this month. If your puppy knows how to sit or lie down at home, start some simple proofing exercises with him in public places. A healthy puppy can usually manage on two meals a day from around six months. During this month a Retriever, Spaniel or GSD puppy will reach around two thirds of his adult weight. A Great Dane and other large breeds will have reached about half their final weight and little dogs will have almost completed their growth. Some female dogs will come on heat for the first time during this month, or the next, so keep an eye open now for swelling of her vulva and any discharge. Your dog will become increasingly confident over the next few months so practice, practice and practice that recall! Make it a habit he cannot break. And be generous with your rewards. Small breed pups may now be more or less mature. Your puppy will enjoy half hour off lead walks now, and should be able to walk on a loose lead for short periods with plenty of encouragement and rewards. Keep practicing that recall! These help to slow his growth further and to build his confidence. Make sure you practice good outdoor management on walks to maintain the good recall you have built and work hard on thoroughly proofing all his obedience skills. Read up on neutering before you take this important step, for dogs of either sex. Once your dog is a year old he can participate in more strenuous activities and sports. Now is the time to think about the kinds of activities you would like to do with him — go jogging together for example — and if necessary, to start to get him fit. Puppy development stages — Summary There is huge variation in the way in which dogs develop and mature. The puppy development stages and ages outlined above are a rough guide. We hope you enjoyed them and found the information interesting. When it comes to training, you get out what you put in. Your progress depends as much if not more on you rather than your puppy. If you train your puppy five times a day, six days a week he will learn many, many times faster than a puppy that is trained once a day at the weekend. Enjoy watching your puppy grow and develop. And have fun! That means Apache might have been a pounds at full size! He was a tall boy! Something I found interesting was how small Charlie was. Not so with Charlie. His dam was a 65 pound female. At 55 pounds you would think he was the runt but all of the puppies from his litter were on the smaller side. Raven was the dam and she was 65 pounds. The sire was on the larger side at 80 pounds. My guestimation was their golden puppy would grow to be pounds. Guess what? The last I heard their not so little puppy grew to be 82 pounds at just under 2 years old. In our experience Golden Retrievers are full grown at around 2 years old. Of course as your dog enters her senior years she will have less energy and exercise less. When the energy level drops you want to be sure you decrease the amount of food you feed because your dog will be burning fewer calories. Our Golden Retrievers have experienced rapid growth from around 3 months to 6 months old. My guess would be your Golden Retriever will be between 39 pounds and 53 pounds. One of our female Golden Retrievers weighed 41 pounds when she was 6 months old. Her full grown weight was 59 pounds. I already answered this question but I really want to drive the point home that males are larger than females. Especially if you look at my chart of personal experiences with Golden Retrievers. The largest male Golden was 90 pounds and the smallest was 45 pounds. While we all have our preference for male vs female dogs I believe one of the big differentiators is size. As we discussed here there is a lot of variation in size. The breed standard for a Goldens weight is between 55 — 75 pounds. However, you can see from our experience that the range can be much bigger with our Goldens ranging from 45 — 90 pounds. Hopefully, this article helps you figure out how big your Golden Retriever puppy will be. If you have a Golden Retriever of any age please tell us about him or her in the comment section below. Maybe we can include some of your Goldens in our size and weight chart above. Helps ease anxiety in their new home. We love using Bully Sticks to help divert these unwanted behaviors. How much should I sell their puppies for… what's the usual price? Photo Credit: Katie! Then see what the average adoption fee is for shelters in your area. That is what those puppies are worth. I now am having my own litter and I wouldn't sell them for any less than what I paid just cause I know both the dogs' backgrounds and they are well behaved great temperament and a great bloodline there just like my kids. CKC would register pretty much anything…they register designer dogs so that shows you how much they care. Really with only 1 of your dogs being AKC registered you shouldn't even be breeding them. I would have to check out both parents before I even purchased a boxer. As for papers, papers to me are just papers who cares. If someone really wants a dog they will pay. Just make sure they go to really good homes. Answer by Juan Garcia Honestly, I believe the price of a boxer pup depends on its features. However, a boxer pup with; a bulldog head, pink inner eyelids, reg. Answer by Summer Yeah, papers are papers. Definitely make sure they go to good homes. All boxers need to be with a family that will make them part of there family. Less - The Boxer is exemplary in its combination of stylish elegance with strength and agility. It is square-proportioned with good substance and musculature. Its stride is free and ground-covering, with proud carriage. Its head is distinctive, with a broad, blunt muzzle and alert expression. Its coat is short and shiny. It is perfectly suited to serve as a working watchdog. The boxer is playful, exuberant, inquisitive, attentive, demonstrative, devoted and outgoing; it is a perfect companion for an active family. It can be stubborn, but it is sensitive and responsive to commands. It may be aggressive toward strange dogs, but it is generally good with other household dogs and pets. The breed was virtually ignored until World War II, when it was brought into use as a military or police dog. This helped to insure instant popularity with returning servicemen, and the breed became in demand in the United States. The contractual agreement between you and the breeder Agreement made to not breed the dog in the future Agreement made to not enter it into competitions No restrictions on the Boxer puppy Read on to see why these factors affect the price of Boxer puppies. Reputation Of The Breeder Breeders spend a lot of time and money to build up their reputation as trustworthy Boxer breeders. The more renowned a breeder is, the more they are able to charge for their dogs. However, some puppy mills and backyard breeders will shoot up their prices to appear to be reputable breeders. Therefore, you should go through a trusted association to find a reputable breeder. Do not be fooled by good advertising. The individual Boxer puppy you want to purchase must have its own papers that document its registration with the American Kennel Club. These papers cost money and will increase the price of your Boxer puppy slightly. This is important because pedigree changes the price of the Boxer puppy; I will discuss this next! Pedigree is important when it comes to determining what your Boxer puppy will look like, its temperament, and the chance of it developing genetic issues in the future as it grows up. Determining who the dam and sire of your Boxer puppy are is important in determining price. If your Boxer puppy has a champion sire or dam, then the price of the puppy will increase significantly. Champion heritage drives the price of the Boxer puppy up because the buyer is almost guaranteed to get a perfect specimen of what a Boxer should be and has a better chance at winning competitions with their Boxer puppy when it grows up. The breed, unfortunately, suffers from hip dysplasia, cardiovascular myopathy, severe arthritis, degenerative myelopathy, several cancers, and aortic valve disease. The American Kennel Club recommends that all of these tests, including thyroid screening, elbow evaluations, and certain DNA tests are all done to produce a long-term prognosis so effective preventative care can be carried out from day one. If a Boxer puppy has any health concerns, then their price will decrease, and they will often be sold for a couple of hundred dollars or so depending on the specific health issues they have. As medium-sized dogs, Boxers can leave their mothers safely at eight weeks. Many people who want to compete with their boxers will wait until the Boxer puppy is six to eight months old before purchasing them. During this time, the breeder will invest in behavioral training. When the Boxer puppy is six to eight months old, the breeder will also be able to give you a better idea of their temperament and their adult markings and ultimate size. As a result, these puppies will be much more expensive than the younger ones. Boxers will stand at 23 to 25 inches tall if they are male and .They have tall, regal-looking shoulders that slope down gently to a smaller set of hips. Their heads are quite square and are characterized by their wrinkles that make them appear confused but curious! Boxers that meet the breed standard are a fawn or brindle color with white markings on their chests, bellies, inner legs, and faces. However, the white markings may not be more than a third of their entire body. If your Boxer puppy meets the breed standard, then their price will increase because they can be used for competitions. However, if they do not meet the breed standard, then their price will be decreased, as this is seen as undesirable from a competition standpoint. The first agreement will prevent you from further breeding your Boxer puppy. The second agreement will prevent you from entering your Boxer puppy into any competitions. Both contacts will decrease the price of your Boxer puppy, as they place restrictions on what you can and cannot do with your puppy as it grows up. There are many other costs associated with owning a Boxer! One-Time Bring Home Costs There are a number of things you will need to purchase before you even pick up your Boxer puppy to make them feel more comfortable and happy in their new home! Fortunately, a lot of these items only need to be purchased once or twice, like food bowls and crates, for example. Here is a list of some of the vital things you need:.
F1 Goldendoodle What is an English Goldendoodle? They are very loving and friendly dogs that enjoy spending time with their owners. They are highly intelligent, very easy to train, and thrive on social interaction. As a result, English Goldendoodles make an excellent service or therapy dog. The English Goldendoodle is also considered a low to non-shedding breed, which makes them ideal for owners with allergies. English Goldendoodles come in a variety of colors. Due to the English Golden retriever's light coloring, the signature English cream Goldendoodle and white Goldendoodle tends to be the most common. However, English Goldendoodles can also come in tan, red, apricot, chocolate or even black depending on the color of the Poodle. Most of our Goldendoodle puppies are of the white, cream, tan, or apricot variety. We encourage you to learn more about English Goldendoodles at the link below. First and foremost, the health and happiness of our dams and their puppies is our top priority. Our English Golden Retrievers are our pets first, and live and sleep inside the comforts of our home. We are not a large kennel facility or puppy mill and are strong advocates against such practices. Our dogs give birth in in comfortable, temperature controlled conditions in our home. Each of our parents pass a full vet administered health exam prior to breeding. We interact with each of the Goldendoodle puppies daily. We work on socializing them through human touch, and introduce them to crate training prior to going home with you. All Goldendoodle puppies are given a full vet administered health exam prior to going home. The Golden Retriever is well known for their mellow, happy go lucky personality and their intelligence. The Poodle is known as a very intelligent dog with a very loving personality. At Doodle Creek we select the best possible temperaments in both breeds to create a wonderful combination of the two breeds. We are committed to producing healthy English Goldendoodles with loving, happy, playful, fun personalities. The English Goldendoodles tend to be very alert, eager to please and intelligent. They have a goofy, playful personality and they thrive on being with people. Their love for people has won them over as one of the most popular breeds on the planet! When careful breeding practices are implemented, the English Goldendoodle makes the perfect companion. They are typically a mild mannered dog with a moderate energy level. Their exercise requirements are not excessive so two minute walks a day works well. The tend to be inquisitive dogs and love to explore making them great dogs for hiking, camping or going on family outings. If they are introduced to water at a young age, most will acquire a love for the water. They are very adaptable and will adjust to most any new environment. They do well in either urban or rural settings. Appearance The English Goldendoodle to me is the most stunning dog ever known to man! They are known to look like Teddy Bears with a beautiful round face and sturdy structured body. They have a much prettier face and sweet, kind eyes. Their ears are well placed as well which gives the English Goldendoodles a rounder look in their face. This is a large part of why we have chosen to go with the English Golden Retrievers in our breeding program. Every breeder creates their own look and we focus on bringing you the prettiest English Goldendoodles possible. Every puppy has a unique and different look but in general, they have that round face, stocky body and beautiful stance with the tail set similar to that of an English Golden Retriever. They typically have a fluffy, to wavy coat that is low to non shedding. We have been breeding English Goldendoodles for many years now and we know the combinations of parents that work well to produce stunning puppies. Breeding is an art and creating that great look without compromising on temperament and health is key to bringing you a beautiful puppy with a great personality. Finding a breeder who produces the look you are wanting in your Doodle is critical. Sizes We breed a variety of different Doodle sizes. The estimated size of your Doodle is determined by the size of both parents. Standard Doodles pounds and inches tall - This is the result of breeding a full sized Standard Poodle with an English Golden Retriever or an English Goldendoodle. Medium Doodles pounds and inches tall - We have Moyen Medium Poodles here that we breed to full sized Doodles or Retrievers. This results in a nice medium sized companion. They come in either F1, F1b or Multigen generations. Mini Doodles pounds and inches tall - This is the result of any number of combinations depending on the size of the parents. It is not possible to have an F1 Tiny Doodle because breeding the smallest Poodle possible to a full sized Golden Retriever will still give no guarantees that the puppy will be in the pound range. Tiny Doodles only come in the F1b generation at Doodle Creek. These dogs typically have low to non shedding coats. Some will have the straighter coats with a loose wave to it. These coats will sometimes be low shedding. Others will have the fleecy coats and will shed very little to nothing at all. If you are wanting strong Retriever characteristics and you are okay with possibly some shedding, this would be a great option. If you have allergies, you may want to consider the F1b or Multigen breedings. These dogs will quite often look very similar to the F1 English Goldendoodles in that many still keep that nice, fleecy coat type. The litters normally have a few with the fleecy coat types and a few with the curly coat types. The fleecy coat typed F1b puppies are typically extremely low to non shedding. The F1b is an excellent choice for those who suffer from allergies. Multigen English Goldendoodles - Through our years of experience, we have now come to the point where we use our trusted genetics and we will breed two totally unrelated Goldendoodles together. We do all the proper DNA testing to ensure that we are getting the low to non shedding offspring from these matings. We have found that the Mulitgens are just as good as the F1b for those with allergies as they are also low to non shedding. The advantage of breeding Mulitgen English Goldendoodles here at Doodle Creek is that we are able to get more of the colours we are looking for in our puppies such as the tri colour, black and white, brown and white, or the merle. Coat types Our English Goldendoodles have several different coat types. Most are very low to non shedding. They turn into a loose curled coat as an adult and have a very soft feel. They are low to non shedding. The curly coat is similar to that of a poodle. They are typically non shedding and are wonderful for allergies. They get that beautiful, messy look to them and are very attractive looking as adults. They will often be low shedding but shed much less than a Golden Retriever. In the photos below we have posted the puppy photo on the left and one as they became adults on the right. This will give you an idea of what to expect when you get a puppy from either coat type listed here. Some differences for the English Golden Retriever include a shorter and more muscular body, lower energy, lower cancer rate, broader muzzle, shorter coat, and coats are lighter in color ranging from cream to gold. We will produce solids, parti-factor or abstract, as well as Parti English Goldendoodle Puppies! Our Parti English Goldendoodle Puppies will range from red and white, apricot and white, chocolate brown and white, black and white, and sable parti puppies. All Dams and Sires have obtained extensive health clearances prior to being bred. This combination produces an F1 Goldendoodle. These dogs will have a higher success rate for non-shedding. Coats are loose wavy to curly and mostly non-shedding. The F1 Generation sheds light to minimally, while the F1B Generation typically is minimal to non-shedding. Weight: typically 25 lbs. Weight: typically lbs. Medium: Height: over 17 but under 21 inches 43cm to 52cm at wither. Standard: Height: over 21 inches 53cm to 63cm at wither. Weight: typically 51 or more lbs. We do not currently breed mini or petite sizing. The coat of a Goldendoodle can vary from straight, loose wavy or curly. An F1 Goldendoodle will have a loose wavy coat, while an F1B Goldendoodle litter has both curly and loose wavy coats within the litter. Goldendoodles can be black, red, white, apricot, brown, cream, Cafe Au Lait, silver beige, silver or blue, and may be a combination of these colors. Goldendoodles are also a healthy breed in general. Common health problems include Eye problems, Predisposition to some cancers Hip and elbow dysplasia Both the Goldendoodle and Labradoodle have a similar life span of between 10 to 15 years. The smaller the Poodle mix the longer the lifespan. Miniature Goldendoodles and Miniature Labradoodles can live for even longer than the year average. Food Consumption Comparison for Goldendoodle Vs Labradoodle The decision of which diet to feed your puppy is for you to make. The advice of your vet or fellow breed owners may help guide you. There are no strict rules about which diet is best for your dog. Breeders I interviewed believe that both dog breeds will do well with good quality dry food. It will meet all their nutritional needs. It will also help keep their teeth in good condition. Both dogs will have different requirements for total food volume based on their weight. Typically a Goldendoodle consumes cups of dry food per day. Labradoodles have the same guideline. If a Goldendoodle coat is curly, you can look for a few early signs to help tell the coat type of your Goldendoodle. Owners suggest that Labradoodles on average consume slightly more food than Goldendoodles of the same weight. Every dog is different however so I would not put too much emphasis on this factor when choosing a dog breed. Both breeds tend to eat a lot if given the opportunity. If you have a miniature dog then pick up the dog and step on your bathroom scales. Then weigh yourself again without the dog and figure out the difference. For large dogs visit a large pet store or your local Vet. They usually have a pet scale you can use for free. Some owners report that their Goldendoodles are prone to food allergies. For these dogs creating a diet that is free from wheat, corn, soy, and dairy products is important. The best option for them is often dry grain-free foods. A key to consider is that the first ingredient on the list should be meat. Food allergies often present with skin irritation for Goldendoodles. A commonplace for irritation and itchiness from allergies is the soft skin in-between the paws. If your Goldendoodle is licking its paws or biting its paws this can be a sign that a food sensitivity is occurring. Which is better for families? There is a reason why the two breeds are very popular, that is because they are intelligent, adorable, and family-friendly. We all want to get a perfect dog for our family, and it is natural to be concerned about making the wrong choice. The age of any children that the puppy will be in contact with can be considered when comparing Goldendoodle Vs Labradoodle dogs. Although both breeds are similar — some owners of both breeds report the following Goldendoodles may be better with younger children, particularly visiting toddlers and strange younger kids Their enthusiasm and love for life suits active young children Labradoodles can be an excellent energetic match for young teenagers and older teens Goldendoodles are sometimes too energetic for shy children and this must be considered. Goldendoodles also sometimes share their excitement by barking — which can either startle children or disrupt sleep. These traits are true of all dogs of any breed and should be taken with a grain of salt as anecdotal experiences though a quick browse of the Goldendoodle Vs Labradoodle subreddits show the same trends repeating. Are Goldendoodles or Labradoodles better with Separation anxiety? Separation from owners is an issue in the busy modern world. Picking either a Goldendoodle or a Labradoodle requires a time investment. You need to be there for your dog or arrange some company. Separation anxiety is common for both breeds. It is a dead-tie between the two. Both Labradoodles and Goldendoodles are prone to barking, panicking, crying or whining if left alone for long periods of time. There are strategies to limit excessive barking from separation anxiety. The only real solution is keeping your dog company. Labradoodles are social animals and should not be left outside for extended periods of time. So Which Pet Is best? Goldendoodle Vs Labradoodle? It is obvious that both Goldendoodles and Labradoodles are great pets for individuals and families. They are loyal, loving, intelligent, and friendly. They are willing to please, which helps enormously with training. Each Poodle Mix will present different kinds of personality traits separate to the physical traits. These guides can help you make a decision between two very similar breeds. Based on your experience — which dog is your preference? Who wins the Goldendoodle Vs Labradoodle showdown? Do you have thoughts on which would suit your family best? What Is A Goldendoodle? What Is A Labradoodle? The Labradoodle is an affectionate, energetic, loyal and smart cross breed. Where Do Goldendoodle Come From? While these designer dogs became more common and more popular in the s, some dog breeders were crossing these two breeds as early as the s. The idea was to create a dog that was capable of helping people with disabilities or in need of a service animal but struggled with allergies to dogs. Goldendoodles tend to have a hypoallergenic coat that make them a good option for people with allergies to dogs. Where Do Labradoodle Come From? Labradoodle Photo: Adobe Stock Goldendoodles have an average size range of 22 to 29 inches and can weigh between 60 and 90 pounds depending on the sex of the dog. So, Goldendoodles on average are slightly bigger than Labradoodles. They can have a curly coat or a smoother coat. Goldendoodles have a number of possible coat colors and coat combinations, including cream, brown, black, red, sable, blue and silver. The most Goldendoodle coat color is cream, brown or sable, resulting in these hybrid dogs often being likened to teddy bears. They can either have what is described as a wool-like coat similar to their Poodle parent or a softer, fleece coat that is more akin to their Labrador parent. Labradoodles can have a variety of coat colors, including black, red, cream, sable, brindle, blue and silver. So each member of these designer dog breeds can differ in appearance. Goldendoodle vs Labradoodle: Temperament Goldendoodles are affectionate, eager to please, energetic, loving, loyal and trainable dogs. As we touched upon, Goldendoodles are often used to help people who have service needs. Labradoodles have a lot of traits in common with the Goldendoodle. Labradoodles can do well in a family setting but supervision around children is always a good idea. These social dogs will benefit from early socialization and training just like Goldendoodle puppies. At a minimum, you could walk your hybrid dog for 60 minutes but these two cross breeds are eager to please, highly intelligent and like to put their IQ to good use. Are Labradoodles Or Goldendoodles Calmer? Their tight curls will catch any dander they produce. Goldendoodle vs Labradoodle: Shedding Brown and white Labradoodle Photo: Adobe Stock Goldendoodles and Labradoodles are low-shedding dogs as we highlighted in the point above. So they should be minimal shedders if they shed at all. These two cross breeds will require regular baths to maintain the appearance, health and texture of their coats. First generation Goldendoodles and Labradoodles will have similar shedding levels. However, a second or third generation Goldendoodle or Labradoodle will likely shed even less than a first generation Goldendoodle or Labradoodle. Just like Goldendoodles, the price of a Labradoodle will vary depending on some key factors such as coat color and lineage. Goldendoodle vs Labradoodle: Life Expectancy Goldendoodle playing with a tennis ball Photo: Adobe Stock Goldendoodles will usually have a life expectancy ranging from 10 to 15 years. For instance, Golden Retrievers live between 10 and 12 years and Poodles have a life expectancy of 12 to 15 years. Labradoodles have a slightly longer life expectancy of 12 to 15 years. For instance, Goldendoodles tend to be slightly bigger than Labradoodles. However, Labradoodles can live to a slightly older age than Goldendoodles. Goldendoodles do have a slightly higher average price than the Labradoodle. These two dogs can make excellent guide and service dogs thanks to their affectionate, gentle, loyal, eager-to-please, highly-trainable personalities. They need lots of daily exercise to satisfy their mental and physical stimulation needs. Overall, Goldendoodles and Labradoodles have lots of similarities both in terms of appearance, temperament, coat texture, shedding and exercise requirements. Usually sociable and friendly, but can be wary of new people DIET: Around 1, calories per day depending on weight Around 1, calories per day depending on weight EXERCISE: High: 12 miles per week and 60 minutes of outdoor time each day High: 12 miles per week and 60 minutes of outdoor time per day. Enjoys swimming. Size And Weight The two breeds are very similar in size and weight. Standard, adult Goldendoodles are usually between 22 and 25 inches long and weigh anywhere from 45 to pounds. Labradoodles are possibly a bit smaller, being between 21 and 24 inches long, and they do not tend to weigh more than 70 pounds. However, size and weight varies greatly on an individual basis. Coat And Color Whether a Doodle will emerge with the coat of a Poodle or not is a game of chance, though most do seem to inherit the curly poodle coat, which leaves them looking a bit like oversized teddy bears. These coats tend to be low-shedding and take the form of a double coat, which means that they have a dense under layer and a thin outer layer. While this differs greatly from litter to litter, as a general rule, Goldendoodles tend to have longer, wavy hair and Labradoodles tend to have short, wiry hair. Both dogs can come in a range of different colors. Common colors for Goldendoodles include black, white, brown, cream, gold, red, silver, and sable. You will often see Labradoodles in chocolate, cafe, parchment, cream, gold, apricot, red, black, silver, chalk, lavender, and blue. Health Both Goldendoodles and Labradoodles have a life expectancy of around 10 to 15 years and tend to suffer from similar health issues. Like most large breeds, they can suffer from Hip Dysplasia, when the cartilage in the hip is incorrectly formed, or Patellar Luxation, when the knee joint is incorrectly formed. Both issues may need to be managed with pain medication or, in serious cases, they require an operation. Both Goldendoodles and Labradoodles also have a tendency to develop eye issues, including Progressive Retinal Atrophy, which will eventually lead to blindness. Intelligence Both breeds of dog are highly intelligent, which in turn, makes them highly trainable. This means that they make great service dogs as search and rescue dogs, guide dogs, or medical assistance dogs. They are particularly popular among people who need service dogs but suffer from dog hair allergies , as their low-shedding coat means that they give off less of the dander that triggers allergic reactions. Both breeds, but especially the Labradoodle, enjoy retrieving and will happily play fetch with you all day if you let them. This makes them ideal for search and rescue type work, which may require dogs to seek out objects over vast distances and difficult terrain for several hours. Temperament Both dogs have a friendly temperament and are never aggressive. They are very unlikely to bark or snap at people if they have been properly raised and socialized. This makes them great family dogs to have around children, but terrible guard dogs! While they are generally very friendly with children, they can be a bit unconscious of their size and weight, and they may want to flop down on you or your kids. For this reason, kids should still be supervised when playing with either breed. Both Goldendoodles and Labradoodles also tend to get on well with other pets, as long as they have been properly socialized together. Goldendoodles are a little bit better in this respect, and Labradoodles can sometimes be a bit more stand-off-ish with new pets or new people. This means that if you are looking for a pet to fit in with you family, including children and other pets, Goldendoodles can be a slightly better choice. Bear in mind that neither breed likes to be left alone for long periods of time, and may act out if left in the house alone for several hours. Diet And Exercise These two dog breeds are very similar in terms of their dietary and exercise needs. Their exact calorie intake depends on their size, but the average sizes Goldendoodle or Labradoodle will need about 1, calories per day, which should be split over two or three meals. Lively animals, both Labradoodles and Goldendoodles need a lot of exercise. At a minimum, they will need 12 miles of exercise per week, including 60 minutes outside every day. Key Differences As can be seen, the Goldendoodle and Labradoodle are very similar dogs, but there are some key differences. First, Goldendoodles tend to have longer coats, while Labradoodles have a short wiry coat. But the main difference is in their personalities. While both are friendly, Goldendoodles tend to be more enthusiastic and excitable and more easy going with people and other pets. Labradoodles display very similar behavior but can be more wary when coming across new people and animals for the first time. While both breeds are also very intelligent and highly trainable, Labradoodles tend to be more tenacious when it comes to completing tasks and love the stimulation of working. This tends to make them better working dogs in terms of activities such as search and rescue. Benefits Of A Doodle Breed Whether you decide to go for a Labradoodle or Goldendoodle, there are a lot of benefits to getting a Doodle breed: Being part Poodle, Doodles tend to be low-shedding, which means that they leave behind less of the dander that triggers allergies. This makes them as close to a hypoallergenic dog as you are likely to get. Plus, less dog hair to be cleaning up! Labradoodles, and especially Goldendoodles, are family friendly and will enjoy playing with the kids and will get along with other pets in the home. Both breeds love the great outdoors and will love accompanying you on your hiking, trekking, and even boating adventures. Doodles are highly trainable, so they are great if you are looking for a working dog or just want a dog that can do cool tricks. Both breeds need lots of exercise, so you need to make time in your busy schedule to take them out to play. The Verdict Both Labradoodles and Goldendoodles make excellent dog choices, especially for anyone who has issues with dog hair as they tend to be low-shedding. Both are intelligent, friendly, and highly trainable. This makes them great pets for families as they will fit in with kids and other pets quickly, and will appreciate always having someone to play with. Their trainability and docile nature also makes them great service dogs, easily able to comprehend the required tasks and able to venture into public spaces without causing a nuisance. Both breeds also need a lot of exercise and attention, so make sure you have enough time in your schedule to care for them properly. While the decision on whether you should get a Labradoodle or Goldendoodle is down to personal preference, by a small margin, Goldendoodles are probably better as family pets, and Labradoodles better as service dogs. Labradoodles tend to be more tenacious when it comes to learning tasks and love always having something to do, but they can also be more wary or strangers. Goldendoodles treat everyone they meet as their best friend and have the right temperament for being in the home. Make sure you do your due diligence when looking for one of these dogs and find a breeder who knows exactly what they are doing with their doodles. Do you have a Labradoodle or Goldendoodle? What are your thoughts on the showdown: Labradoodle vs Goldendoodle? Tell us about your dog in the comment section below. Related Article. Two of the most popular doodle crossbreeds are the Labradoodle and the Goldendoodle, both of which make excellent additions to the family. The Labradoodle combines the traits of a Poodle with the playful temperament of the Labrador Retriever, while the Goldendoodle blends the qualities of a Poodle with the affectionate nature of the Golden Retriever. Labradoodle vs Goldendoodle, which Doodle breed is best for you? Temperament Looking for a lovable companion? The Labradoodle and the Goldendoodle are two poodle mixes that fit the bill as they inherit desirable characteristics from both parent breeds. Since the Labrador is often calm and affectionate, the Labradoodle has the same traits. As a pet, the Labradoodle is bound to make you smile with its extroverted personality and strong desire to spend time with human family members. Both breeds are highly intelligent making them great family dogs, but this also gives them the potential to be trained as service dogs or therapy dogs. Labradoodles also have a sixth sense about what is happening, making them well-suited for busy homes or homes that get a lot of visitors. The standard Poodle and Golden Retriever are among the most intelligent dog breeds, so the Goldendoodle is a smart pooch capable of figuring things out quickly. Due to its intelligence and extroversion, it is important to set boundaries for this breed early on; otherwise, the Goldendoodle may have difficulty reigning in its energy level and enthusiasm. Coat When comparing the Labradoodle vs Goldendoodle, the most distinctive difference is the coat. Purebred poodles have tightly curled hair, which gives them their distinctive appearance. In contrast, the Labrador Retriever has a coarser, thicker hair follicle. Golden Retrievers have a thinner hair follicle, but more hair overall, so they tend to have a fluffier, wavy look. Golden Retrievers naturally have cream, caramel, gold, or red colored puppies, but Poodles come in all colors, so Goldendoodle puppies can be those colors plus black, chocolate, parti, brindle, merle, etc. Popularity Due to their attractive appearance and desirable personality traits, both the Labradoodle and Goldendoodle are extremely popular. They are especially popular among people with allergies, as with proper breeding, they should shed much less than other breeds. The lack of shedding means these dogs are far less likely to trigger allergic reactions or symptoms. Grooming Labradoodle Grooming Due to differences in their coats, the Labradoodle and Goldendoodle have different grooming requirements. Labradoodle puppies need to be brushed regularly, as their adult coats often do not grow in until they are approximately a year old. Labradoodles should be groomed in a specific way, especially if you want your dog to maintain its trademark Labradoodle appearance. For example, the groomer should use a long blade to trim the bulk of the coat. The Labradoodle is meant to have full-looking legs, so the groomer must be careful not to trim off too much hair. Goldendoodle Grooming Goldendoodles also need regular grooming. When trimming the coat, you have a few options when it comes to length. A short cut is also more comfortable during the dog days of summer. You could even give your Goldendoodle a layered look by cutting the hair so that it tapers down to the legs. Training Labradoodle Training Their high level of intelligence makes Labradoodles fairly easy to train, as a Labradoodle puppy is quick to learn new commands and has a strong desire to please its human companions. Initially, Labradoodle training should focus on building a positive relationship between you and your dog. Your Labradoodle needs to know that it can trust you, so avoid yelling or making gestures that could be interpreted by the dog as threatening. During the first training session, establish yourself as the leader of the pack. One way to establish yourself as the leader of the pack is to be careful not to give your dog too many treats. A treat should only be given when your Labradoodle follows a command. Otherwise, your dog will not understand its place in your family, and you may have trouble getting it to follow your rules. If you have children, make sure they know how to handle a puppy. Otherwise, your pup is likely to display undesirable behaviors as a response to stress. Setting expectations helps ease anxiety and ensures that your canine companion knows what to expect while living with you. When you start training your Labradoodle, one of the most important things you can teach it is to wait patiently. If you teach your dog to wait, you can avoid jumping and other undesirable behaviors in the future. The best way to accomplish this is to show the Labradoodle you have a treat and then ask it to sit and wait. If the dog runs toward you, paws at the treat or jumps on you, take the treat away. Only give your Labradoodle the treat if it sits and waits for you to take action. Otherwise, your dog will think it can get what it wants by displaying undesirable behaviors. Goldendoodle Training Due to the similarities in their personalities, the training methods for Labradoodles and Goldendoodles are fairly similar. To socialize your Goldendoodle, take it to a local dog park or look for a puppy playgroup in your area. In a pinch, you can also invite friends and family members to come to your house and meet the dog. Just make sure everyone you invite knows how to interact with a puppy without scaring it or coming off as overly aggressive. Once your dog is comfortable, start introducing it to new people and new circumstances. A hiker with a backpack, a person on a bicycle and someone wearing a hat are all people your dog should meet, as your puppy needs to get used to people who look and smell different from you. Like Labradoodles, Goldendoodles are usually quick to catch on when it comes to learning new commands and following the rules. Just be sure to establish that you are the pack leader or your Goldendoodle may decide that it would rather have fun than listen to you when you tell it to get off the couch or stop jumping on people. Goldendoodles need consistency and structure, so try to do a training session at the same time each day. Once your Goldendoodle has been socialized and learned basic training commands, try walking or hiking together to help the dog use up some of its energy. The size of a doodle depends on whether you have the standard, miniature or medium version. Standards typically range from 21 to 23 inches high for females and 22 to 24 inches high for males. Miniatures are tiny, as they are typically 14 to 16 inches high. Mediums are slightly smaller than the standard version, with females ranging from 17 to 19 inches high and males ranging from 18 to 20 inches high. The miniature version can weigh as little as 15 pounds or as much as 30 pounds, while the medium Labradoodle typically weighs anywhere from 30 to 50 pounds. Follow the link to read our guide to learn how big do Goldendoodles get? Lifespan As a mix of the Poodle and the Labrador Retriever, a Labradoodle can have health problems that are common in either breed. Labrador Retrievers and Poodles often develop hip dysplasia. With proper care, the typical life span of a Labradoodle is 15 years, making this breed an excellent choice for a long-term companion. Our guide on the lifespan of a Goldendoodle will be really helpful to understand that breed. Since Goldendoodles are part Poodle, they may also develop hip dysplasia as they get older. Eye conditions and a narrowing of the aortic valve are also possible, as these conditions are associated with Golden Retrievers. Again, working with a reputable breeder can help you reduce the risk of these problems, as quality breeders are vigilant about using only the best dogs for breeding purposes. Goldendoodles have an expected life span of 10 to 15 years. Quality is important, as good breeding practices can help you avoid common health problems and ensure you get to enjoy many years with your new companion. Additional Resources: This post is about how to get a dog through Craigslist. When looking for a dog to adopt on Craigslist, you pull up your nearest city first. Dogs being re-homed on Craigslist If you are interested in a young or middle-aged large dog such as a Lab, lab mix, shepherd mix or pitbull, you might be able to find one in need of a new home on Craiglist. Depending on where you live, some of the dogs listed for re-homing on Craigslist are listed by their current owners. Most of these people had good intentions but for whatever reason they need to find their dog a new home. Usually they state the reason is they do not have enough time for the dog or they are moving or they are not providing the dog with enough exercise. But … know that on Craigslist you will also have to weed through a lot of posts about purebred puppies avoid those. And there are also a lot of listings for cats, kittens and small animals which you can scroll on by unless you are looking for one of those animals. Shelters and rescues listing dogs on Craigslist Sometimes rescue groups and shelters will list some of their dogs for adoption on Craigslist. This is to get more exposure to the animals. In this case, the listing will direct you to their website to fill out their usual application. Puppy scams on Craigslist There are people listing purebred puppies or trendy mixed breed puppies on Craigslist, which I recommend you avoid at all costs. For example, French bulldogs, mini goldendoodles and mini Australian shepherds, to name a few. Get realistic dog training tips emailed once a week. Good breeders have no reason to list their puppies on Craigslist. A good breeder has no reason to post their puppies on Craigslist because they have a long wait list and more inquiries than they need. They almost always have a waiting list. They will not have immediate puppies available for the first person willing to pay. Responsible, good breeders can charge a lot of money for their dogs. As they should. But, a good breeder who really cares about the dog will start out by asking you about your lifestyle, why you want a dog, why you are a good fit for this breed, etc. Pay in cash only and never pay until you meet the dog Use common sense and trust your gut. This goes without saying, but never send someone from Craigslist a check or give out your credit card info. Instead, meet them in person with another family member or friend and pay in Cash only, and only after you have met the dog in person. Never send someone money before you meet the dog. Is it really OK to get a dog from Craigslist? You just need to know what to avoid. There are pros and cons to searching for a dog on Craigslist. How about I list some of the benefits now! Here you go: 1. A private adoption through Craigslist is generally easier than going through a rescue group. There is a high demand for rescue dogs through shelters and rescue groups and therefore most can afford to be very selective about who can adopt. For example, they might require you to have a fenced yard, show proof of income or agree never to use a chain or slip collar. The adoption process is often long and complicated with home visits and reference checks. Usually, there are others ahead of you on the list for a specific dog. Some might also ask for references to help them know the dog is going to a good home but most will not. Then you can schedule a good time to meet in person. This is what I did when I got my Lab mix Ace and it was a very positive experience for me. And the fees are certainly negotiable, if there is a fee at all. When I adopted my Lab mix Ace, his previous owner did not ask for any money at all. She just wanted the dog to go to a good home and she knew she would be saving money in the longterm by re-homing him. Often, the dog will come with items such as a dog kennel, dog bed, bowls, food, treats, a leash, collar and toys because the previous owner will have no use for these items anymore. This is not always the case, but usually the dog will have had vaccinations at least at some point. The dog might also be spayed or neutered already. You should ask for written records. You can learn a lot about a dog before adopting. Before I adopted my dog Ace, I had a chance to ask his current owner all kinds of questions , and she was happy to answer. Does he do OK with cats? How much exercise does he need? How does he do in a kennel? Has he had any accidents? Would he make a good running buddy? How does he do with other dogs? Can he be left alone? This is not a jab at shelters. This is a definite benefit! Click Here 5. Dogs listed on Craigslist are often trained and well socialized. Many of these dogs have had at least some basic training. By that, I mean they are at least housebroken and know the basics like sit and stay. Many have lived with other dogs or cats or children and have at least been walked on a leash before. I already mentioned some of the common scams and types of listings to avoid. Here are some of the other cons: 1. Some people are difficult to deal with. They might ask dozens of questions which is probably good. They might ask to see your home or to speak with references. Remember, it is their choice. Try to keep in mind all of this is usually because they want the very best for the dog. Just try to be happy they are making an effort to find the dog a good home. If the person just seems a little too weird about who can have the dog, just move on and consider one of the thousands of other dogs waiting for homes. Some people will be able to take dogs back. You should definitely ask this question before committing to the dog, and do everything you can to make sure the dog is a good fit before you bring the dog home. The previous owner may want to stay in touch. How often will the previous owner expect text updates? Are you OK with that? How often will she want to visit, if at all? Are you OK giving her your address? Would you like her to call you before just showing up? Or maybe you would rather not keep in touch at all. When I adopted my dog Ace from his previous owner, I never spoke with her again after that day. She never reached out to me either. The owner could change her mind at the last minute. If this is the case, try to be understanding, move on and consider one of the many other dogs in need of a home. When you adopt through a shelter or get a dog through a breeder, you will not have this problem. How to get a dog through Craigslist OK, now that we got the pros and cons of adopting a dog through Craigslist out of the way, here are some tips to make the process go smoothly. Just a reminder, I would avoid all purebred puppies listed on Craigslist, at least trendy purebreds or trendy designer mixes such as goldendoodles. What you can potentially find on Craigslist is a nice young or middle-aged Lab, shepherd mix, pitbull or other various mixed breeds. Ask tons of questions about the dog before agreeing to meet. Ideally, you should get most of your questions answered ahead of time. For example, does the dog absolutely have to get along with cats? Can you deal with potty training? Separation anxiety? I recommend an actual phone conversation vs. Yes, I know this is hard for you young people but it will give you a much better feeling for the situation. Bring the whole family to meet the dog, if you can. Everyone in your family should go along for the initial meeting. Bring your existing dog along too, if possible. Probably should leave your cat at home though! Keep your dog in the car at first or have one person stay back with your dog. Here are my tips for doing slow dog to dog intros. If you live alone, ask a friend to go along. This is a safety precaution. Bring a friend who will give honest feedback. Not the friend who will convince you to adopt any and every dog! You want to find the right dog. Meet the dog. Then wait a few hours before committing. Adopting a dog is a huge decision and commitment. When I went to meet my dog Ace for the first time, I asked his owner if I could take him for a walk. She was comfortable with this, so my husband and I walked Ace for about 20 minutes. This gave us some time to get to know Ace and talk about our decision without the current owner around. Take dog-to-dog intros very slowly. If you do bring your other dog along, be very careful about introducing the two dogs. Most people rush dog-to-dog intros and it sets the dogs up for a scuffle. You want to avoid introductions in the house, especially in doorways. Also, avoid head-on, nose-to-nose meetings. Take them for a short walk side by side. Instead, have one dog already walking and just start strolling behind with the other by a good 20 feet. Then try to walk parallel, with 10 feet between. Only move closer and have the dogs interact if they are both starting to calm down. Look for relaxed body posture, sniffing the ground, loosely wagging tails and casual glances. Those are all good signs. Dogs that are jumping on their hind legs, choking themselves, panting heavily and pulling towards each other are way too excited to have an appropriate greeting. Pay with cash when you buy a dog on Craigslist. This is just the most obvious way to avoid a check or credit card scam. And obviously, never send money before meeting the dog! Additional Resources:. As my website states, I am not like other breeders in many ways. First, I want to explain how the average Labrador breeder raises their pups the first few weeks of their life. They expect these tiny pups without their senses fully developed to find their way to a nipple without being smothered. I understand that this is what dogs do in the wild, but this is also why many puppies die in the wild. .Then, on top of that they hope that each of the pups will get enough milk on it's own to make it through the 1st week of life. They expect the Lab mom to do all the work, so they don't have to lose a wink of sleep. This is all very sad to say but it's true. I, on the other hand, care about each individual pup's life, I care that each and every one of them survive so that they can live a full and happy life. So, I make sure that each individual pup is given outstanding care. How do I do this? I began with hand raising each one of my pups the first 3 weeks of its life. What do I mean by hand raise my pup? It means I personally make sure each individual pup is fed every 2 hours- 24 hours a day, the first 2 weeks of its life. At feeding time, I make sure each puppy gets on a nipple so they don't have to struggle to find one. I make sure that each puppy gets an adequate amount of milk. Then, once I see that they have been well fed. I pick up one pup at a time and have the mom lick it to go potty. And then I put them in their little crib to ensure they are safe and not smooth by the mother until the next feeding 2 hours later. At three weeks, we feed the pups every 4 hours. But at this point, even though the pups eyes and ears are open. I still supervise the feeding to ensure that each pup is adequately fed and again not smothered by it's mother. I believe in giving these pups outstanding care. Even if that means that I lose a lot of sleep, and even if it ends up just saving one pups life. That one pup could be the next Labrador that I get a testimony about how it brought so much joy into one person's life! So, in the end, all the work and lack of sleep is worth it. I am up now about to give my pups their 3 am feeding. Hope this helps you all understand what is put into each litter. She is from our breeding between Cash and Bella, both parents are health certified. Sugar is overnight crate trained and has some other training. She has the sweetest disposition; we absolutely love her! However, we have had a family emergency that has come up that may cause us to have to put Sugar up for sale. If you would be interested in Sugar, please email us and let us know about yourself, and the lifestyle that you would be able to give Sugar. We will be reviewing potential families who would be interested in Sugar and pick the best family for her, and make a decision later this month. They are given constant positive attention their whole time with us. We have a big game room that we call the "Labby Room" This room is designated for our labs and their lab puppies. The puppies get a lot of interaction with all our kids in this room. They also become well adjusted to all the sounds of the home life, like the sound of a vacuum. When the pups are born, I will contact you and inform you on how many pups were born. We will post up pictures of each litter soon after they are born. And try to post weekly picture updates so you can watch the puppies grow. We will also post video on our face book page. When the pups are 6 to 7 weeks of age, I will contact you to set up an appointment for you choose and pick up your pup at 8 weeks of age. If you had first deposit in for a male pup you will have first choice of all the males available. If you have second deposit in, you will have the next appointment to choose from the males that are left and so forth. This order of reserving pups would also apply to the females as well. We honor all reservations on a puppy by not selling the puppy to anyone else. So if you are interested in a litter and don't want to make a reservation until "you see the litter". An appointment can be made to view the left-over puppies when they are 10 weeks old, and no sooner. No appointments will be allowed at a younger age, except for the families that made a prior reservation. We will not allow our baby puppies to be exposed to potential life threatening viruses from people that are just "shopping". We wait until all puppies that have been reserved are safely home, before we show any left-over puppies. Any left-over pups will be at least 10 weeks of age before any viewings are allowed, to insure they have at least had 2 sets of shots in. The only other accommodation that we can offer is a zoom call, so you can see the pups before you make a reservation. Most of our sweet puppies are sold before they are even born. Coat Trim Cost of Veterinary Expenses You can expect to pay for the vet each year so that your dog can remain up to date with their shots. An annual visit can also make sure your dog is healthy, but you may want to take your dog in more often if they get sick or have other problems. You can get pet insurance to help cover the cost of these vet expenses. A good breeder will provide you with not only a healthy, well-socialized puppy but also support and guidance as you navigate life with your new furry friend. But with so many breeders out there, how do you know who to choose? Look for a breeder who is registered with the American Kennel Club AKC or other reputable organizations and who has experience breeding golden retrievers. A reputable breeder will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the breed and will provide you with references from past clients. A good breeder will provide support and guidance as you adjust to life with your new pet. They should be available to answer questions, offer training advice, and help you navigate any challenges that arise. Look for a Breeder with Experience Experience matters when it comes to breeding golden retrievers. A breeder with years of experience will have a wealth of knowledge about the breed and will be able to provide you with valuable insights and advice. They will know how to breed for good temperament, health, and other important traits that make golden retrievers such beloved family pets. This includes information about any genetic diseases or health issues that may be present in the bloodline. By choosing a breeder who prioritizes health and genetics, you can help ensure that your new puppy is healthy and happy. Some breeders may insist that you participate in these events if you want to purchase a puppy from them, but this is not a requirement. Choose a breeder who respects your lifestyle and preferences and who is primarily concerned with finding a good home for their puppies. The right Golden Retriever breeder depends on you as a person, but any good breeder should be able to answer any questions. You may come across the perfect puppy online, but do not commit to any dog until you can visit in person. The dog may be totally different than in their photo. In some cases, you may find that the dog does not exist. Some scammers can take photos of other dogs and collect payment for the dog. But the scammer will disappear before the buyer realizes the dog is not theirs. To avoid these puppy sales scams, always visit the dog in person before you sign a contract or make a payment. Make sure the dog looks like the pictures and that they have the temperament that you want. If you are working with a breeder, be sure to check their credentials and ask for references. You can speak to other dog owners who have gone through the breeder. Finally, do not rush into getting a dog. Conclusion While Golden Retrievers can be moderately expensive to keep over the ten to twelve years that they generally live, there are many ways that people can reduce the cost of keeping them. One of the best ways to save money while raising a Golden Retriever is to get quality pet insurance. As long as their owners are prepared to offer them financial security in the form of good food, a few well-loved toys, and some regular veterinary care, Goldens repay the devotion a hundredfold in terms of loyalty and affection for their families. Check out our list of Golden Retriever Rescue Organizations , they are listed by state. She is board certified a specialist in canine reproduction. In her day job, she is a leader in a small biotech where she and a team of veterinarians and scientists work to develop new medications for pets. She enjoys sharing her knowledge of this wonderful breed of dogs. She and her husband have 2 children, 3 dogs and one cat. They love camping and hiking and she can often be found with her head in a good book. Recent Posts. One or both of this puppy's parents have undergone genetic testing. One or both of this puppy's parents are hip certified. One or both of this puppy's parents is OFA Heart certified. This puppy has had early neurological stimulation exercises. It is also important to understand there are different types of golden retrievers which may affect pricing. For example, if you decide to choose the lowest golden retriever cost option, those puppies almost never have the necessary 3rd-party assurances or veterinarian procedures like dewormings, vaccinations, health-tested parents, or a thorough health checkup. These missing costs and services will be your responsibility, making the total cost ultimately the same. Not to mention the added stress on you these extra expenses and issues create! Adopting vs. Please note that depending on the shelter, you may have to pay additional costs for your Golden certain shots and procedures. Depending on if the golden retriever is a boy or a girl may affect the price as well. Some male vs female golden retriever differences may make you prefer one over the other. This will ultimately save you time and money on your golden retriever price because breeders often pay lower veterinary rates than individuals do. Distemper, for example, is a highly contagious disease that attacks the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and nervous systems of dogs. Unfortunately, there is no cure — just a lot of expenses and stress which really adds to the overall cost of your Golden Retriever puppy. It is wise to ask your vet for guidance on this decision. Talk with your vet about the procedure, when you should get it done, and how much it might cost. Dental Care for Your Golden Retriever Golden Retrievers, like many dogs, can be prone to dental issues such as plaque buildup, gum disease, and tooth decay. These cleanings typically involve scaling, polishing, and potentially extractions if necessary. Some insurance providers offer optional dental coverage as an add-on or as part of more comprehensive plans. If dental coverage is included in the policy, it typically covers a portion of the costs associated with dental cleanings, extractions, and other necessary dental treatments. This typically includes services such as bathing, brushing, trimming, nail clipping, ear cleaning, and sometimes additional services like de-shedding or dematting. Some groomers may offer package deals or discounts for regular appointments or bundled services. This monthly expense may seem like an additional cost, but it can be a worthwhile investment when considering the potential savings on veterinary bills for treatments, surgeries, and medications. By having pet insurance in place, you can ensure that your Golden Retriever receives the necessary care without straining your finances in the event of unexpected health issues. Puppy Training and Socialization Classes Attending puppy training and socialization classes is highly recommended for the comprehensive development of your Golden puppy. These classes provide structured learning environments, social interaction, and essential obedience training. By enrolling your Golden Retriever puppy in these classes, you ensure they receive the necessary foundation for good behavior, social skills, and overall well-being. The cost for food will depend on the size, age, and activity level of your companion. Fortunately, the cheaper brands of dog food can be just as good as the more premium brands as long as they meet the standards of AAFCO and are made with minimal processing. When making your decision, make sure to avoid artificial ingredients and preservatives where you can, since they could cause health problems for your dog.

Now how many breeders can say that. Before there were no red standard poodles. Yes there were reds in the miniature and toy varieties but not the standard size. In the standards there were Apricots. I feel Janet made the greatest impact on the red standard poodles as we know them today. Following are a few kennels that have made a mark on the red standard poodle. Palmares Kennel. I would like to think that my small kennel will do all that and more. COM bottom of page. It was the French, however, who honored the Poodle at home, in court circles and on the battlefields thus earning the dog the popular, but incorrect title, "French Poodle. Poodles are highly intelligent and learn very quickly, are adaptable and have a good sense of humor. They come in three varieties sizes , many colors, do not shed, and are tolerated by many allergy suffers. With so many wonderful qualities, it is easy to understand why the Poodle has so many admirers. They are ideal for those individuals who prefer a larger dog, anywhere from about pounds can be pounds. The Miniature Poodle is a sturdy size but small enough for apartment living and large enough to be a rough and tumble child's companion. The Miniature Poodle is also very intelligent, learns quickly and thrives on all the same activities as the Standard Poodle. It is popular with apartment owners, retired people who enjoy traveling with their pet, people who want a lap warmer and those who just prefer a small dog. By definition, the Toy Poodle should not be taller than 10 inches at the shoulders and about pounds. The Toy Poodle is not an appropriate pet in a home with young children. While just as active as its Standard and Miniature relatives it is still small enough to warrant adult supervision when little children are near. Once you own one you will never want anything other than a Poodle. Important information for families already on our list or those considering getting a Cabernet Puppy. Cabernet Puppy Placement Procedure Although this topic is included on our FAQ page, we feel it is important enough that we want to have it clearly explained in a little more detail. Every breeding we plan and do is with the hope of getting our next show puppy. When the puppies are close to ten weeks old, we make our choice of which pup or puppies we plan to keep. Next, we begin mentally matching the others with their potential owners. Scott and I are very experienced in this and it is we who make the decision where each puppy will go. We have many, many Cabernet families that can attest to the fact that having us do the matching really works. That is one reason why we have so many of them returning for another Cabernet Poodle. There are several factors that go into this process. It is very interesting to us that puppies inherit not only physical traits from certain dogs in their ancestry, but they also often inherit particular behavior or personality traits. Some will fit in best in a quiet household where it is the only dog. Others will always be more active and adventuresome, wanting a life where a lot is going on. Are there children in the home and if so, what ages? Have you had a Poodle before? Do you want a dog to go running with you? To visit nursing homes? Do you want a dog that can get along with your other dogs? The more you tell us about yourself, the easier it is for us to choose the right puppy for you. We encourage you to stay in touch throughout the process and beyond. Knowing you and your lifestyle helps us choose the puppy we feel will make a great match but we want you to get to know us too. We plan on being an ongoing resource for you for the lifetime of your Poodle. They all are very easy to love! It is at that time that we ask for a deposit. If you have a specific sex or color that you are requesting and we do not have it once the puppies are born, your deposit will be refunded. You can always choose to wait or not wait for the next litter. If you choose not to wait we will happily refer you to other reputable breeders. We want the same thing you want: Good Temperaments and Health. It is important to us that we feel confident that the boys we choose to breed to have the same wonderful temperaments our girls do. How We Nurture Our Puppies It is important to us that the pups we place have the best psychological start in life that we can give them. From their first day until their eyes and ears open, we are constantly holding them so that they become comfortable with the touch of human hands. When they begin to see and hear, they are introduced to many new sights and sounds. So they become accustomed to all the sounds and sights of daily living. By the time the puppies are weeks old, we begin taking them on short field trips to experience new sounds, sights and places. We also begin to have a constant stream of friends and children come to socialize the pups. We encourage and extend invitations to all prospective families to come and play with all the puppies. We believe that all of this makes our puppies feel more confident when they go out into the world and become wonderful companions for their families. You will learn more about our process of raising the puppies and matching them to our prospective families. Rather than asking prospective buyers to fill out an online application, we prefer a more personal contact by hearing from you whether by email or a phone call and when possible a visit to your home and a visit from you to our home. This unique color may be red parti, chocolate parti, black parti, cream parti, merle parti, apricot parti, or phantom parti. The choices are almost endless. Merle Goldendoodle — This beautiful color is a combination of various colors. Phantom Goldendoodle — Super hard to find phantom Goldendoodles comprise two colors — a base shade solid chocolate or solid black and a lighter one. The lighter points are usually to be found above the eyes eyebrows , on the side of the chest, muzzle, inside the legs and under the tail. Most phantom Goldendoodles are commonly black and tan, but this can vary, e. While these dogs look either brown or black at birth, even at this early time, the root of the hair is much lighter than the tip. Sable Goldendoodles tend to hold onto their dark color around the face and ears. The rest of their coat settles into more of a cream or tan shade, although always with darker tips and lighter roots. This makes for a unique-looking dog! Abstract Goldendoodles — Dogs with abstract coats are mostly one single color be it any of the ones outlined above with touches of white. These are usually found on their face and around their chest and paws. Such dogs are also referred to as mismarked. Tuxedo Goldendoodles — Tuxedo Goldendoodles are another two-color mix. Any of the above colors are combined with white. However, the white is concentrated around the chest and front legs. This gives the pup the appearance of wearing a tuxedo hence the name. As you can imagine, these dogs are popular because of their distinctive appearance — especially when in black and white. Their markings are apparent from birth. Although, naturally, the white splotches often begin small and get more prominent as the dog matures. This unique pattern of dark and light coat is arranged in such a way as to make the dog look like it has tiger stripes. While the width and color of these stripes vary from dog to dog, in Goldendoodles, it usually takes the form of a black or brown base coat with lighter colored stripes. Tri-Colored Goldendoodles — With the increasing amount of multigenerational Goldendoodles, color options are becoming ever more varied. However, it is very usual in other types like Bernedoodles from the Bernese Mountain Dog. They usually have a little of another breed in them — one that does carry the tri-color gene. Is one coat color or pattern better than another? Web Support T Is one coat color or pattern better than another? In all honesty, with no coat color or pattern being better than any other in terms of health and behavior, your choice of Goldendoodle should be based on temperament over looks. However, everyone has different preferences about these things. So, once you have ascertained that the puppies you are checking out are all good, you can choose the one that looks best to you. Usually, the intensity is reduced, and black dogs switch to gray or silver while red ones dull down to apricot or cream. There is no right or wrong answer to this question. Over the years I have discovered that there is very little difference between genders in terms of personality. I have males and females that are both sweet, smart, friendly, playful, loyal, gentle, etc. I also have some males and females that are highly energetic, mischievous, barkers, toy destroyers, etc. Frequently Asked Questions What is the temperament of a Goldendoodle? Goldendoodles are an intelligent and obedient family companion. They are friendly towards children, other dogs and pets, and easy with strangers. They are social dogs, happiest when with people. Goldendoodles are likely to get into mischief and develop behavior problems if they spend most of their lives alone. Their intelligence, eagerness to please, and love of learning make them very easy to train. Do Goldendoodles need grooming? Web Support T Do Goldendoodles need grooming? As a hybrid cross, Goldendoodles will inherit fur that looks retriever-like, or poodle-like, but usually something in-between. Unclipped Goldendoodles will have hair about inches long, shorter on the face and longer on the body, tail and legs. Without grooming, painful mats can form and your adorable pup will look neglected and unkempt. Expect to thoroughly comb or brush your Goldendoodle regularly all the way down to the skin. A curly coat will require more brushing than a straight or wavy one. Head to a professional groomer every six to eight weeks or so. How much exercise does a Goldendoodle need? Web Support T How much exercise does a Goldendoodle need? Goldendoodles are energetic, active dogs. Of course, some will be more active than others, but like all dogs, if not given moderate amount of exercise each day, they can easily get into trouble. Plan on your Goldendoodle needing at least two minute periods of exercise per day. This can be accomplished through various means, such as brisk walks, jogging, hiking, swimming, agility work, or just good old-fashioned backyard playtime. Although exercise is needed, they can easily adapt to a life in the city or on a farm or anything in between. What colors and patterns can a Goldendoodle be? Web Support T What colors and patterns can a Goldendoodle be? With a name like Goldendoodle, one might think that gold is the only color they come in, but nothing could be further from the truth! Goldendoodles come in a variety of colors, including black, chocolate, red, white, apricot, cream and brown. In addition to the wide variety of colors, Goldendoodles can also be found in a variety of patterns, including merle, brindle, phantom, sable, and parti. The Poodle and Golden Retriever ancestry both bring apricot, red, and cream to the mix. The same gene controls all three of these colors, but the intensity of the inherited gene is what determines the shade of the color. Poodles also bring dark brown chocolate , black, gray, and silver, as well as the patterns, to the mix. We specialize in breeding Mini Goldendoodles as well as a few other breeds. We also have partnered up with several other high quality breeders that raise mini goldendoodle pups that meet our strict genetic criteria and testing. So we usually have a good selection of very high quality puppies. View Our Available Puppies! Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments.
