All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process. Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from? Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards. Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products? Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply. Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains? As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients. How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet? Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way. We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food. We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers. How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet? Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog. If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

Life Span Did You Know? The Boxador is a designer mixed dog breed that is a cross between a Boxer and a Labrador Retriever. They are sometimes also called a Boxer Lab Mix, although Boxador tends to be a more popular term. Because this is not an established purebred dog, the Boxador is not recognized by the American Kennel Club, but they are still recognized by other official organizations. With mixed breed puppies, you can get any combination of the physical characteristics and character traits of the parent breeds. A Boxador puppy could take completely after their Boxer parent or their Lab parent or could be some combination of both. In general, Boxadors tend to be intelligent, friendly, energetic, and loving. Overall, these dogs tend to make a great addition to a family. Both the Boxer and the Labrador are known for their happy-go-lucky, friendly temperament. They also have a playful spirit and are known for getting along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. In general, the Boxador tends to have a similar temperament. Playtime with small children should be supervised as these dogs will grow into large, energetic dogs and small children can be knocked over by their excitedly wagging tails and energetic play. They tend to be loyal, friendly, and playful and love spending time with their families. Due to the hunting instinct in the parent breeds, a Boxador may have a high prey drive and enjoy chasing things. Boxadors tend to be highly adaptable dogs. They do tend to be a better fit for larger homes with a fenced-in backyard where they can run. However, as long as they receive plenty of exercise, mental stimulation, and attention, they can adapt well to apartment living. As with many dog breeds, they are sensitive to extreme heat and can be sensitive to cold. But, overall, this dog breed does well in just about any climate. They love to be around their families and have a high energy level, so they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. Mixed dog breeds can inherit some, all, or none of the potential health issues present in their parent breeds. When it comes to the Boxador, they are a relatively healthy breed. Some of the potential health conditions to be aware of include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, cataracts, and heart conditions. Asking the breeder about the genetic history of the parent breeds and to see any relevant health clearances can help allay potential concerns about health you may have. Both the Boxer and the Lab are highly intelligent dog breeds that are eager to please their owners, which makes them both highly trainable. You can expect your Boxador to be highly trainable as well. These dogs respond well to positive training techniques and are a good fit for owners of any experience level. Although it tends not to be necessary with this breed, enrolling in puppy training and obedience classes is an added bonus and can offer some extra opportunities for socialization. Boxadors usually have a short and dense coat. They will shed moderately year-round and more heavily twice a year as the seasons change. Generally, brushing their coat a few times a week is sufficient. This will help keep your dog more comfortable and will keep some of the loose fur contained to the brush instead of all of around your house. In terms of bathing, these dogs only require the occasional bath or more often as needed if they have gotten dirty or have been swimming. Dental care for dogs is especially important. Both of the parent breeds of this designer dog breed are high-energy, so you should expect your Boxador to have a high energy level as well. In addition to regular daily walks and playtime, your Boxador may enjoy running with you, going for a swim, going hiking with you, and taking trips to the dog park. They also are a good fit for several canine sports like dock diving, agility, and more. Their joints are still developing before this age and can be damaged by strenuous exercise. A fully-grown Boxador will usually stand 20 to 25 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh 55 to 80 pounds. A Boxador generally lives 10 to 14 years. Boxador Puppies for Sale. Some of these are perfect if you want to stay at home and others are ideal if you want to get out and about with your Pug. Did you know that the average adult dog can understand approximately words or short phrases? But, even more amazing is that canines are capable of knowing many more. A Border Collie named Chaser knew more than words! Just by speaking the name of objects, your Pug will catch onto some words. But, to speed up learning, have several teaching sessions per day. The only things you will need for this are the objects that you want your Pug to know by name and some training treats. Since Pugs are prone to weight gain, this is a great low-calorie option. For these fun teaching sessions, set out 3 objects onto the floor. Pick up each one, clearly enunciating the word for it. Then, ask your Pug to get one that you call out. This is a great way to increase the bond you have with your Pug while offering your canine family member the gift of self-confidence. And, if your Pug has those down pat, you can both have tons of fun by moving onto tricks. Pugs can learn all sorts of things including roll over, play dead, dancing, praying, hoops, and much more. A great book for this is Dog Tricks: Step by Step Activities , which has easy-to-follow instructions with helpful color photos of each step for both commands and tricks. Cuteness break! This is a great way to have fun with your Pug inside the home, and particularly on a rainy day when you want to prevent boredom for the both of you. Have a helper hold them. Or set up a gate or similar object across a doorway, leaving a small opening, then distract your Pug by tossing an item of interest toward the back end of the room. Your Pug may catch on to this method of distraction rather quickly and that's okay, many dogs will voluntarily be 'distracted' so that their human can hide. Here are some tips to keep this fun: 1 Always plan your hiding spot so that your dog doesn't catch you standing in a room while you wonder where to stash yourself. Behind a sofa or behind a door is a good choice. By the 5th or 6th time, you should be a couple of rooms away, completely out of view. Some good places? The bathtub with the curtain drawn, a closet with the door slightly open, or underneath blankets. This leads to wanting to play the next day. Puzzle games are a fantastic way to have fun with your Pug. There are many types of puzzle games for dogs. For example, the Trixie Flip Board is a flat floor-based puzzle where you hide treats behind compartments and teach your Pug how to nose or paw the various covers, flippers, sliders, and knobs. And, the Trixie Gambling Tower is a see-through tower on a sturdy base that holds treats that are released when your Pug learns to tug on the connector ropes. With these types of fun games, just remember that your Pug is not meant to play alone. It will be your job to show your Pug what to do and offer happy words to encourage them to keep trying or praise when they eventually catch on. Penny, at 5 months old, photo courtesy of Jamie 5: Have fun with bubbles. Many dogs find it thrilling to chase after bubbles and it can be a great way to get your Pug moving and meeting exercise requirements. If you manually blow bubbles for your Pug, this can be done either indoors or outdoors. Depending on the season, it can be a great time to go strawberry picking, apple picking or even explore a pumpkin patch. Often, apple orchards also have peach trees and other fruit trees to fill in between apple season. It can be a great way to do something new with your Pug and afterward or during , you can sample the fruit. Strawberries are safe for dogs to eat. Peach and apple can be given to dogs if you cut out pieces only the core, seeds and pits are toxic. Some dogs will chase after anything that is thrown; but, others need a bit more incentive. If you want to get your Pug to really enjoy a game of fetch, it helps to do this with something novel and exciting. This is a set of 3; All have flashing lights and make silly noises. Each has a different texture, soft rubber, hard rubber, and soft nubs which makes it easy to mouth. And, another terrific option is a Chuckit! Flying Squirrel Toy. These are perfect for Pugs, since they are designed for short-range flight and they spin in the air which helps trigger a chase response. With fetch, keep in mind that your level of enthusiasm plays a big role. Be involved and alert, and speak in an animated, happy tone. Just remember that fetch toys are designed specifically for throwing and retrieving and typically are not sturdy enough to be chew toys; so, reserve this just for when you are playing fetch with your Pug. There are lots of restaurants that allow dogs , either inside the eating establishment or outdoors on a patio. Some places even have menu items specifically for dogs. Pugs will be sedentary if allowed to be and it is true that overexertion is not a good thing for brachycephalic breeds. But, Pugs need daily exercise just like any other dog to manage weight, maintain muscle mass, and keep the heart strong. Going on hikes can be a fun way to get your Pug moving, all you need to do is choose the right route and prep your Pug for safety. These will be short usually 1 to 3 miles in total , have well-established trails mostly free of rocks, roots and other hazards, and have very little elevation gain. During those times, offer cool water. The container itself is stainless steel construction which makes it very durable. This has a neat design where a connected BPA-free section flips up and into a bowl. As you may know, brachycephalic breeds like the Pug should never be on leash and collar. A collar around the neck, especially when connected to a leash, can severely impede breathing. Harness are a much safer option. The neck is free and pressure from the leash is displaced over the shoulders, chest, and back. As added bonus, it is much easier to control and lead a dog when using a harness. This is lined for comfort and also made of a breathable air-mesh which helps keep a dog cool. These start at size extra-small for young pups and go up from there. And, this is available in 13 different colors so that your Pug will always look stylish. You'll want to pair the harness with a retractable leash so that you can let your Pug out and reel him in as needed without having to fumble with the cord. Most hiking spots close at sunset, so you will want to leave plenty of time to ensure that you and your guy or gal are done with time to spare. Miss Moo, at 12 years old, photo courtesy of Jerry, Shelly and Taylor Koltz Choose an activity to celebrate the season. Have fun with your Pug by making the most out of whichever season it happens to be. In the summer, take your Pug to a dog-friendly beach to walk along the shoreline. In the spring, head out for a picnic. In autumn, rake up a pile of colorful leaves and jump into it together. In the winter, bundle up your Pug and play in the snow for up to 20 minutes. The HSUS combs through federal and state inspection reports each year to compile the Horrible Hundred list, which is a sampling of especially problematic puppy mills across the nation. Five Indiana puppy mills were cited for a variety of problems, including sick and injured dogs that were in need of veterinary care and dogs living in filthy conditions. The organization believes there are as many as 10, puppy mills in the country, although their report only highlights of them each year. HSUS reports that in the months since the issues were documented at these alleged puppy mills, COVID has forced many agencies to pause their inspection programs. The five Indiana puppy mills that made the list are in the following cities: Middlebury 2 Odon Shipshewana Some breeders are named in the report, which also includes specific details about what violations were found at the supposed puppy mills and why they made the "Horrible Hundred" list. The first breeder in Middlebury was cited by the USDA for a direct violation after a female dog was found "hunched over" with a painful prolapse, according to the HSUS report. Records kept by the breeder indicate he knew about the condition for up to six weeks before the July inspection, but he never sought veterinary assistance for the female dog. During the same inspection, the kennel — which was listed as having was cited for failure to clean and sanitize, the report noting that the wash-down gutter at the end of the whelping area was "full of feces, old food and maggots. The breeder in Nappanee had his USDA license canceled after multiple violations, including at least one sick puppy which was sold and later died. In Odon, a golden retreiver was found to have two deep, open wounds that had not been treated by a veterinarian. And in Shipshewana, the breeder was cited for having had multiple animals confiscated due to poor conditions. You can read the full reports and details from Indiana breeders here. In , puppy mills in Kokomo, Loogootee and Odon were included in the list. Topping the list of the Horrible Hundred for the eighth year in a row is Missouri with the 30 poorly ranked breeders 8 more than followed by Ohio with nine and Wisconsin and Kansas with eight each. An AKC breeder in Michigan that is being sued by the state's attorney general for allegedly selling sick puppies, misleading customers and killing unwanted puppies. A dealer in Iowa with over dogs where nearly 50 animals have been found sick or injured since .Some dogs were reported to be limping and others had open wounds on their bodies. Is there anything cuter than a two-month-old Golden Retriever puppy? At eight weeks old, they are absolutely, impossibly, unbearably adorable! At two months old, a Golden Retriever is ready to leave their mother and littermates to join their new family. Some breeders will keep a puppy for a couple more weeks before sending them home, but eight weeks is very typical. Puppies at this age are usually playful and curious, with brains like little sponges. This usually only lasts a day or two, and then their true personality will shine through! They are in the prime socialization window here, which is the time between three and sixteen weeks when puppies are most open to learning about the world. Proper socialization can help you buffer against potential behavior issues as your pup matures, and teaches them how to feel and act in different situations and environments. It helps them feel confident and self-assured. A two-month-old Golden Retriever puppy is constantly learning! Make sure your puppy is learning that they are safe and that they can trust you both at home and out in the world. A fear period is a temporary span of time where a puppy may be more sensitive to things like strange people, strange dogs, inanimate objects, sounds, etc. It usually lasts about a week and you may notice your puppy showing signs of fear such as cowering, running away, growling, or barking. It can be a little scary as the owner of a puppy to see them acting this way. The good thing is that a fear period is short-lived and will pass. If they are concerned about something or someone, help them get more distance so they can observe the thing while feeling safe. They have a lot of needs and are totally dependent on you to meet those needs. Be patient as you help them learn how to live in our human world, and you can develop a strong, positive bond with your new companion. Getting a golden retriever puppy? Check out the Golden Retriever Puppy Handbook! This is heavily influenced by genetics, but is not always the best indicator of their adult weight. Some lines of Goldens are bigger or smaller than average, so puppy size will reflect that. Your vet can help you make sure that your puppy is at an appropriate weight if you have any concerns. Eight-week-old Golden Retrievers need around 18 hours of sleep each day. Oftentimes, a puppy that is wild and bitey is in fact overly tired and in need of a nap. It may seem like they need more exercise to drain that crazy energy, but they actually need sleep. Using crates and pens can help ensure that your puppy is getting enough sleep at night and throughout the day. Many two-month-old Goldens are not good at putting themselves down for a nap, even when they really need it. So, you may need to step in and help your puppy settle in for some sleep. Make sure that their crate or pen is nice and comfy before you put them in for a nap, so they are more able to relax and fall asleep. Every puppy is different, so yours may prefer a nice cushy bed , or they may actually like laying on the bare floor. You can take note of what kinds of surfaces your puppy lays on around the house and then recreate that in the crate or pen. Covering the crate or pen with a blanket can also help make sleep easier for a two-month-old puppy, as it cuts down on the visual stimulation. Products like Adaptil spray or diffuser , and the Snuggle Puppy toy can also help a puppy settle in for sleep. Chewing and licking are naturally calming behaviors for puppies, so it can also help if you offer something like a stuffed kong , which can assist in transitioning the puppy from awake to asleep. Playing Classical music can also help a puppy feel more calm and able to sleep. At this age, most two-month-old puppies are ready for sleep after about an hour of awake time, so by following these tips, you can help make sure your puppy is getting enough quality rest. Instead, you can give them a break and see if they choose to get up, or simply scoop them up and walk home. Sometimes people get a Golden Retriever to be a running or biking companion, which can be a great thing when the pup is a fully grown adult, but is too much exercise for a young puppy. Playing with toys in the house or in the yard can be a great way for young pups to burn some of that puppy energy. If you have a yard, letting your pup safely explore and run around outside can also be a nice way to get in some exercise. You may also find that your puppy needs more sleep on some days, and on other days, they need more playtime and exercise. Golden Retrievers as a breed can also vary a lot in terms of exercise needs. Some are pretty laid back and chill and others are up for anything and want to go hard. These differences can be reflected in how much energy your puppy has, as well as in what kind and how much exercise your puppy needs. Training is an excellent way to build a positive bond with your puppy and create a way to communicate with each other. Group puppy classes can be a good option for getting started with training, as the trainer will help you learn how to train your pup. You can also hire a certified, professional trainer to come to your home and provide personalized training guidance for you and your puppy. Before you sign up with any trainer, be sure to ask them what kind of training methods and tools they use, to avoid causing any physical or mental distress for your puppy. Potty training is definitely a top priority for two-month-old puppies. They have small bladders and bowels and will need frequent trips outside to help them learn appropriate potty behavior. Crate training can also be started at this age, as learning how to be okay with confinement is an important life skill. Eight-week-old Golden Retriever puppies eat about a half cup of food three times per day. There is no one-size-fits-all rule when it comes to feeding your two-month-old Golden. Puppies at this age need more frequent meals than adult Goldens, so three meals a day is recommended. Because two-month-old Goldens are undergoing so much growth at this stage, feed them high-quality food that can support them as they mature. Most Goldens have big appetites and will happily gobble down their meals when you serve them. Using slow feeder bowls like this bowl on Amazon , or other food dispensing toys, such as the Planet Dog Snoop , can help slow down their eating and provide them some mental stimulation while they eat. Puppies like to put things in their mouth as a way to learn and play. Unfortunately, it can be pretty painful for humans, as those puppy teeth are needle-sharp! There are, however, some things you can do to minimize and deal with the biting. First, ensure that your two-month-old Golden is getting enough sleep. Overly tired puppies tend to get super bitey and frenzied, so naps are key to preventing your puppy from turning into a piranha. Your floor might look a little cluttered, but it helps to keep toys within reach for a quick redirection. Third, you can simply give the puppy a break if they are on a biting spree. You could step on the other side of a baby gate or put them in their pen to calm down a bit, and then resume the play. This communicates to the puppy that when they bite, they lose access to you and the fun stops. A common piece of advice when dealing with puppy biting is to yelp in response to their nip, as if you were another dog. This is actually not a good way to handle puppy biting and can actually make it worse. Other puppies will be further excited by the yelp sound and come at you with even more intensity, resulting in harder bites. Good Beginnings Bringing a two-month-old Golden Retriever home is a very exciting thing. It can also feel pretty overwhelming as you figure out how to care for and train them. You might be sleep-deprived and have a couple scratches on your hand from those sharp puppy teeth, but try to keep in mind that this is the beginning of a special relationship with an incredible animal. Focus on bonding with your puppy, teaching them about the world, and creating good habits from the start. Have any questions about raising eight-week-old golden retrievers? Let me know down in the comments! Read the rest of our Golden Retriever puppy series here:. How much does an 8-week-old Golden Retriever sleep? How much exercise does your 2-month-old Golden Retriever need? Eight weeks is typically when breeders allow puppies to be taken to their new homes, but some breeders keep them for a couple of extra weeks. This shy, sleepy puppy will eventually get more comfortable with its new environment and come out of its shell in a couple of days. Socialization is important for eight-week-old golden pups. Getting your pup used to these things is a good way to avoid potential behavioral issues as the puppy matures because it allows them to learn how to feel and react to various stimuli and leaves you with a confident, well-adjusted pup. You need to reinforce the idea that your puppy is safe and gain their trust during this time period. During this time, pups will be a little more fearful of things like strangers, sounds, and certain objects. It will pass, and usually only lasts a week or so. It can be a little scary or discouraging for the owner of a golden puppy to see them go through this fear period, especially if they start exhibiting fear towards people. Goldens are known to be such friendly and social dogs, so watching them exhibit such antisocial traits can be off-putting. You can still get them outside and introduce them to new things, just remain mindful of their feelings. You need to be patient with an eight-week-old puppy. These adorable balls of energy and fluff are completely dependent on you to meet their needs and there are a LOT of needs! Check out our article on the Best Shampoo for Golden Retrievers so you can meet their hygiene needs! You need to be patient with them so that you can not only bond with your new pup, but also help him grow and learn about the world around him. Sometimes the puppy that was the smallest puppy in the litter can grow and quickly become the largest. And the largest puppy of the litter may not always remain the largest. As a breed, Golden Retrievers vary in size and weight. So you should enjoy that before they grow too big to pick up and cuddle! You may be surprised to learn that 8-week-old Golden puppies require about 18 hours of sleep a day. This may seem counter-intuitive because most people would assume that if a puppy is full of energy it needs to run it off, but in all actuality what they really need is sleep. You should use either pens or crates to make sure that your pup gets the optimal amount of sleep both through the night and during the day. Here are some things you can do to help your puppy nap: Adorn their crate or pen with comfortable blankets or pillows. Learn whether your pup likes to sleep on a bed or on the floor, then set their crate or pen up accordingly. Cover the crate or pen using a blanket or towel so that their visual stimulation is limited. You can use aromatherapy products for dogs to lull your pup to sleep. Get your puppy something like a stuffed Kong toy because licking and chewing are relaxing to pups. Classical or calming music can help your puppy get to sleep. You can expect that your pup should be ready for a nap after being awake for around an hour. So, you can get him to sleep easier using these tips. An 8-week-old Golden Retriever puppy is largely able to know how much exercise it needs all on its own. What you should do instead is either pick them up and take them home or give them a break and see if they get a second wind. Golden Retrievers excel at playing fetch, but you need to keep games short. The running and then suddenly stopping to pick the ball or toy up and bring it back is hard on their tiny bones. People often adopt Golden Retrievers with the intent of getting a companion to exercise with running, hiking, biking, etc. Allowing your puppy to play with toys in your yard or house can be a good, safe way for your puppy to exercise. Having a yard is ideal because you can let your pup run around the yard and explore, while also burning off some excess energy. Just make sure you choose a short, easy walk that your puppy can handle. However, some days they have more energy than others, which is normal. Every Golden Retriever has varying exercise needs. Some are pretty chill and would rather lay around, while others are really hyper and active. You need to know that positive reinforcement works best for Golden Retrievers. You should avoid any sort of training that is based on punishment. There are also other training methods that can be beneficial to your pup. Group training is a good way to get your pup acquainted with other dogs and learn alongside them, while the trainer provides you with ways to better train your pup. You also have the option to hire a professional dog trainer, who will come to your house and give you customized tips to train your puppy. Before hiring any sort of trainer, ask them about the methods they use to avoid distress for puppies. They need to learn about confinement early on. Another important thing to teach your pup is their name, and to come to you when you call them. The bond with your pup is vital to any other training you do with them. For more about the training process, check out our article about Golden Retriever Puppy Training. Hey, food is good, okay? Most 8-week-old Golden Retriever puppies should be eating around half a cup of food three times a day. So, talk to your vet for a specific amount. They need high-quality puppy food. For more about what to feed your pup, check out our article about the Best Puppy Food for Golden Retrievers. Your golden puppy will probably quickly devour any food you place in front of them. It can be a good idea to buy a slow feeder bowl or toys that dispense food to slow them down a bit while also giving them some mental stimulation and making mealtime fun. Just as infants put things in their mouths, puppies do too. They do this to both plays and learn about their world. This can really suck for humans because puppies have sharp little teeth that feel like needles. The good news is that you can do some things to cut back on the biting and learn to deal with it. The first thing right off the bat you should do is to make sure your puppy is getting enough sleep. Secondly, scatter chew toys all over your house. Third, give your puppy a break if they start biting. This is as easy as going on the other side of their gate or putting them in their crate. This lets your pup know that when they start biting, the play stops, and access to you is denied. Many people suggest yelping and making loud noises when your puppy bites. But this is actually pretty counter-productive because it can make the situation worse by scaring the puppy. Other puppies can get more excited by the noise and bite harder. Biting is just something that puppies at this age do. However, remember that getting through this trying time is going to help you establish a lifelong bond with your new family member. We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. This was the first time we had a chance to chart puppies from birth until 8 weeks old. We tried to take as many pictures as possible so we could have a journal of our Golden Retriever puppy growth week by week. When raising guide and service dog puppies we usually bring home our puppies at around weeks old. On occasion we are allowed to see puppies before 8 weeks of age, but they need to stay with their mother and siblings during those important early weeks to get milk and antibodies from mama and learn how to interact properly with siblings, learning important behaviors like bite inhibition. During our days as a foster we raised two litters of puppies , but both were already weeks old by the time we got them home. We actually own the Puppy Culture DVD and Workbook which includes charts, lists, worksheets and other great information for raising your litter. Keep your eyes and ears open and absorb it all like a sponge! Birth To 1 Week Old Guess what? This was the first litter we ever whelped!? We got a lot of advise, but we were largely on our own. Large Puppy Dish — great for feeding the puppies when they moved to solid food. Whelping Mats — we ordered 2 of these mats and washed them several times a day. Whelping Box — We have a homemade whelping box built by my father-in-law, but if we continue raising litters I plan on purchasing an EZWhelp Whelping Box. Our homemade box lasted three litters. We ended up purchasing the Magnabox which was hellu expensive but if you plan on raising multiple litters we highly recommend it. We recently put together a whelping checklist with all the supplies we gathered together to help out with our second litter of Golden Retriever puppies. Check out our whelping supplies checklist here. However, none were overly huge and none were extra small. No runts and no beasts. It was my understanding that when the cord was chewed down to the base of the belly it was sometimes difficult to get it to stop bleeding. I took the hemostat and pinched the umbilical cord about 2 inches from the base of the pups belly then cut the cord rather than let Raven chew it off. I kept the hemostat on the cord for about 2 minutes to let it clout. The umbilical cord dries up quickly and then within a day or 2 it falls off. Raven was a good mama and took care of her poops. Puppy eyes and ears are closed at this stage and puppies army crawl around the whelping box looking for a teat to suckle. We did everything we could to make sure our pups stayed warm by adding a watt heat lamp to the whelping box and portable heating unit in the puppy room. As I mentioned Raven stayed in the whelping box most of week 1 and of course… the puppy piles! One thing I learned is if I had a puppy on my lap then do not let Raven lick those areas or be prepared for a little accident on your lap. While caring for Raven and her litter Raven was really blowing out her coat that first week, but as time went on it slowed down. I heard from other friends this is common and that Raven blew out her coat much less than other mama dogs. We got Probiotics for Raven before her first litter, but forgot to order them for her second litter. After an upset stomach for the first week or so we realized our mistake, got Probiotics, and no more upset tummy. Week 2 — Pups eyes are opening starting to waddle. Week 3 — First bark! Worse, you may not even find an available puppy, which means a long waiting time. Aside from the puppy, you can also find other tips and information necessary on their site. On it, you can find both Goldendoodle Pups and adults that are near you. You can also filter the searches with the sex and age of the dog that you want. A Goldendoodle puppy can be quite expensive. Thus, if you plan on getting one from a breeder, you can expect the lowest price to be around a thousand dollars. Of course, the price would vary depending on the price given by the breeder. You would also need to prepare for vet visits and check-ups. All in all, you would spend quite a lot of money if you plan on getting a Goldendoodle puppy. Below are some tips you may find useful as you bring home your Goldendoodle puppy: Puppy-proofing The first thing you need is to puppy-proof your home. You may need to cover sharp edges, electric sockets, and remove accident-prone items your pet can reach. In general, puppy-proofing would mean protecting your puppy, and not your home. Introducing the potty place As you arrive home, take the puppy to its potty place first. It will also help you as your pet grows, as it will have in mind the proper place for potty breaks. Proper crate training Crate training would also come as one of the first things you need to do. In general, you should make the crate inviting. Let it come inside on its own. Scheduling The schedule is an important thing to prepare before bringing your Goldendoodle home. Dogs live with a schedule. It includes potty breaks, nap times, playing times, and mealtimes. Thus, you need to be patient and give it some time to adjust. In short, trust the process. In the meantime, be patient. Choosing a Good Goldendoodle Seller and Breeder The ideal Goldendoodle puppy only comes from a good seller and breeder. Thus, in picking your pet, you may want to consider getting it from the best. Tells you any health problems A good breeder will tell you any significant health problems in any of the dogs he or she bred. Asks more questions than you A good breeder would ask for more items from you than you would for him or her. Not in a hurry to send off A good breeder is not in a hurry to send the puppies off and get your money. He or she will even show you other breeders and veterinarians caring for their dogs. Requires expectations on both sides A good breeder will create a contract that offers not only what he or she expects from you. More than that, he or she will also show what you can expect from him or her. Sends puppies properly A good breeder will never send a puppy in a compartment and without any responsible person to go with it. Works only with one or two breeds A good breeder works only with a single or a couple of species. Shows breeding experience A good breeder shows her dogs in recognized confirmation shows. He or she will also join his or her breed in other breed-related performance events. Other states. Our Air Delivery option is available to bring our puppies straight to your doorstep. Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. Red Blue The Labrahuahua will usually take on the coloration of the Labrador retriever parent over that of its Chihuahua parent. Chihuahuas can have natural markings such as a jacket, brindle, or spots. While it is rare for a Labrahuahua to have markings, you may come across a Lab Chihuahua mix that displays the markings of its Chihuahua parents. This means the Chihuahua genes are strong. Labrahuahuas notably have the thick, rounded ears similar to the Labrador retriever parent rather than the thinner pointy ears of the Chihuahua. The Labrahuahua is full of life, energy, and most importantly love. These dogs adore their humans and will do anything for a good, long snuggle any opportunity they get. They are incredibly affectionate with the people they are comfortable with. Labrahuahuas are wary of strangers and may bark quite a lot at them initially. However, as they get used to each other, the Labrahuahua will warm up to strangers quickly and go looking for love and cuddles. Unfortunately, the flip side of this is your Labrahuahua can be very needy and suffer when they are left alone for any period of time. You will need to put routines and training in place to avoid the onset of social anxiety in your Labrahuahua. The Chihuahua does not get along with other dog breeds or pets but will get along well with others of its own kind. The Labrador retriever gets along with just about anything that moves. Fortunately, the Labrahuahua does get along with other dogs provided it is socialized properly. Labrahuahuas are excellent companions for children. They are small and are therefore not intimidating, but they are not as dainty and snappy as Chihuahuas are. Labrahuahuas adore children and the endless fun they can provide through games, cuddles, and dropped snacks. Just like all other dog breeds and hybrid breeds, Labrahuahuas need individualized care. A careful look at the needs of Chihuahuas and Labrador retrievers can help you understand why your Labrahuahua needs the care it does. Grooming Owning a dog is a privilege, grooming that precious ball of fluff is a responsibility that should not be taken lightly. Coat Labrahuahuas have short coats; however, they are also fairly thick and dense. This means they need frequent brushing to loosen up the hair and prevent it from becoming compacted. Brushing them once a week should be sufficient. Labrahuahuas shed seasonally and will need additional brushing during their shedding time. If they are not being brushed often enough, they will become itchy and may develop sores on their bodies from scratching, or compacted fur pulling on the skin. A silicone brush can be used to gently grab the loose hair in the coat and massage the skin at the same time to promote healthy oil production. A deshedding brush is handy to use as well as it will help your Labrahuahua shed during their seasonal shedding time. Your Labrahuahua will need a bath every three to four months, depending on how dirty they get and how frequently you keep up with their grooming. Nails On top of all the brushing and bathing, your Labrahuahua may need its nails trimmed once every three months to keep them short, functional, and healthy. This may increase in frequency as your Labrahuahua gets older and is less active. Teeth The last item on the grooming list is teeth brushing. Chihuahuas frequently suffer from periodontal disease because of the small size of their skulls. Exercise Labrador retrievers and Chihuahuas are both active dogs that need a lot of physical exercise. Your Labrahuahua needs one hour of exercise a day broken up into three minute sessions. Exercise can come in the form of running around, going on hikes, playing games, training, and doing obstacle courses. Labrahuahuas are fairly clever dogs. Both parent breeds are intelligent and need a substantial amount of stimulation everyday to prevent them from becoming bored. Nutrition Chihuahuas and Labrador retrievers need different kinds of nutrition owing to the difference in the size and needs of their bodies. However, supplying your Labrahuahua with a healthy, well-rounded , balanced diet is fairly simple. Check out our article dedicated to the 10 best natural dog foods. The Labrahuahua has a few health issues to be concerned about and these come from the parent breeds. However, Labrahuahuas will be healthier than either parent as they are more genetically diverse because they are a hybrid breed. The major health concerns you should be aware of are luxating patellas, elbow and hip dysplasia, eye issues, and heart conditions. Patella luxation is common in Chihuahuas and other smaller dog breeds. If your Labrahuahua is on the smaller side, this could be a problem. Labrador retrievers frequently suffer from elbow and hip dysplasia as do many other large dog breeds. If your Labrahuahua is on the larger side, this could be a potential problem. Entropion is an eye disease. Labrahuahuas are likely to suffer from entropion as both parent breeds commonly suffer from it. Like entropion, both parent breeds often suffer from heart conditions such as cardiomyopathy and mitral valve disease. Therefore, this is a common problem seen in Labrahuahuas. The best way to protect your Labrahuahua is by being proactive with yearly vet visits. Taking your dog to the vet every year is a necessity as they need vaccine boosters and yearly physical check-ups. Your vet will be able to tell you if anything is wrong as your dog ages. This is because the process of breeding is a lot more hands-on and breeders involved than other hybrid dog breeds, such as a Chiweenie, where both parent breeds are small. Before purchasing your Labrahuahua from a breeder, make sure you do your homework on the breeder. There are many backyard breeders or puppy mills that have very poor breeding practices and pass themselves off as reputable breeders. You should be able to go and meet the breeder, view their breeding stock, and meet the puppies before you purchase your puppy from them. Look for online reviews or even speak to previous customers. Can I find Labrahuahuas at an animal shelter? Do Labrahuahuas get along with other pets? Fortunately, Labrahuahuas take after their Labrador retriever parent in this regard. Labrahuahuas get along fairly well with other household pets such as cats, other dogs, and even large reptiles. It is important to socialize and train your Labrahuahua from an early age as to what is and what is not appropriate behavior around your other pets to ensure a happy home life and harmony among all your furry, feathered, and scaly friends. Will my Labrahuahua bark a lot? Labradors do their fair share of barking when trying to alert their owners to something they see, hear, or smell. Unfortunately, the Labrahuahua can go either way in terms of barking frequency. Check out our article dedicated to correcting bad barking behavior to help you keep your Labrahuahua from bothering the neighbors at all hours. As a hybrid dog, the Labrahuahua can land anywhere on the spectrum between either of its parent breeds. This is a guide on the average Labrahuahua, always remember that hybrids are unique and will be different in personality and looks, even among puppies from the same litter. Labrahuahua Shedding Labradors are notoriously shedding machines, and Chihuahuas aren't much better. So if you're looking for a low-maintenance dog with minimal shedding, a Labrahuahua is probably not the right breed for you. If you decide to get a Labrahuahua, you'll have to deal with shedding, but it's nothing you can't handle. After all, shedding is just a natural part of owning a dog. Just like you have to vacuum your floors and lint-roll your clothes, you'll have to brush your Labrador Chihuahua mix regularly. It's really not that big of a deal, and it's certainly not enough to deter you from owning one of these amazing dogs. Chihuahua Lab mixes are not hypoallergenic. Labrahuahua Health Chihuahua Lab mixes typically have a lifespan of between 10 and 15 years. While Labrador Chihuahua mixes may inherit some of their physical and behavioral traits from their parent breeds, they also inherit the same health issues. Patellar Luxation Patellar luxation is a condition that can affect medium-small breeds of dogs, such as Chihuahuas Lab mixes. The patella, or knee cap, is normally held in place by a combination of muscles, ligaments, and tendons. However, in some dogs, the patella is misaligned and it slips out of place, which often causes pain and lameness in the affected leg. Patellar luxation typically occurs in both hind legs, but it can also affect the front legs. In severe cases, surgery may be necessary to realign the patella and prevent further luxation. Entropion Entropion is a condition that affects the eye, causing the eyelid to fold inward. This can be uncomfortable for the Chihuahua Lab mix, as it can lead to irritation of the eye. In severe cases, entropion can even lead to blindness. Chihuahua Labrador mixes are particularly susceptible to this condition, as they often have loose skin around their eyes. The best way to prevent entropion is to ensure that the dog's face is clean and free of debris. If the condition does develop, it can often be treated with surgery. Cardiomyopathy Cardiomyopathy is a disease that affects the heart muscle. It can lead to an enlarged heart, which can then cause heart failure. Cardiomyopathy is a serious condition that can be fatal, and it is important to be aware of the signs and symptoms so that you can get your dog treatment as soon as possible. Labradors Chihuahua mixes are particularly prone to cardiomyopathy, so it is important to be vigilant if you have this breed. Some of the signs that your dog may be developing cardiomyopathy include exercise intolerance, coughing, and difficulty breathing. How to find a Chihuahua Labrador Mix? You can get a Labrador Chihuahua mix through a breeder or a rescue. Breeder How do you find a reputable breeder that sells Labrahuahuas? Start your search by researching local breeders in your area, asking for referrals from friends or contacting a Chihuahua or Labrador Retriever club. Be sure to ask potential breeders about their experience and history with breeding Labrahuahuas, as well as their approach to raising and socializing puppies. Although finding a labrahuahua may require some patience and persistence, the end result of a loving and loyal companion will be well worth it. Rescue While Labrahuahuas may not be the easiest breed to come across, you can often find them through a rescue organization. Start by searching online for rescue groups that specialize in toy breeds or Labrador retrievers. Don't be afraid to reach out and inquire about any Labrahuahuas they may have available for adoption. By adopting one of these special pups, you not only give them a second chance at a happy life but also gain a loving companion for years to come. To understand this crossbreed better, we need to look at the history of its parent breeds. We will keep referring to the characteristics of these parent breeds throughout the article. It'll help us get a sense of where this hybrid comes from and what to expect from them. Chihuahua Chihuahua descends from the ancient Techichi dog, which was a slightly larger breed. People of Toltec civilization in Mexico are thought to use Techichi for companionship and ceremonial purposes. Americans discovered Chihuahua in the mids in Chihuahua, Mexico , and the AKC registered it under the "toy" group in .Their original breeding purpose is unknown, but they're used as companion dogs these days. Chihuahuas are small pups that weigh no more than six pounds. However, their attitude is that of a giant dog. They can be stubborn and difficult to control at times. If you don't train them properly when they're young, these dogs will happily rule your house. Labrador Labrador Retriever descends from the extinct St. John's water dog, a companion of fishermen. Early Labs used to swim in icy waters to retrieve fish and haul boats in Newfoundland, Canada. They were first brought to England in the s, and the AKC registered them under the "sporting" group in .Labrador has been the most popular breed in the United States for the last 29 years. This is because they are very loving, happy, loyal, and friendly. These highly energetic puppies are also very intelligent and love to exercise. They also love to swim, run, and play fetch. Appearance In terms of size and appearance, Labs and Chihuahuas are opposite ends of the spectrum. Labs are large-sized dogs, .Naturally, when we cross these two breeds, the results can vary greatly. The puppy may look more like a Lab or a Chihuahua. Chihuahua-Lab Mixes are bigger than a Chihuahua but smaller than a Labrador. Breeders have observed that they are usually 10 to 22 inches 25 to 56 cm tall and weigh between 25 to 60 pounds 11 to 27 kg. The males are typically bigger than the females, as with any dog breed. Overall, you can expect a small-to-medium-sized dog that looks like a mini Labrador. This is because the dog will probably inherit short legs and a skinny body from his Chihuahua parent. The mix will likely have his Lab parent's athletic body and thick tail. From Chihuahua, he may inherit a round face and big eyes. His large triangle ears will stand straight like a Chihuahua but will drop down at the end like his Lab parent. Of course, there may be variations like fully erect ears, long and narrow face, and smaller eyes. We've only discussed the characteristics found in most Chihuahua-Lab Mixes; yours may look like a giant Chihuahua rather than a miniature Labrador. Mixing breeds is like rolling a dice: you may get any number between one and six. Temperament Like their appearance, Labrahuahuas' temperament can be hard to predict. They can be loving and friendly like Labradors or skeptical and aloof like Chihuahuas. These dogs will likely bark at strangers, but their Lab instincts will help them become friends once everything feels okay. They are very affectionate, and they love to snuggle in your lap and bombard you with kisses. Labrahuahuas can also be very needy. They may want your full attention all the time. This is because we've combined Labrador's friendliness and devotion with Chihuahua's separation anxiety. If you're going to bring a Labrahuahua, be prepared to have him follow around the house. The point here is that these dogs must only live with families that can provide them the time and attention they need. Many of Chihuahua's aggressive traits can be controlled with proper training and socialization during puppyhood. While training, you'll need to show them that you're the boss, and they must listen to you. This will make sure your pet is more comfortable around strangers and doesn't embarrass you by acting against your commands. Coat and Colors Labradors have a thick, dense double coat that is of short to medium length. This double coat isolates their skin from water, helping them swim in freezing water for long periods. They are available in a couple of colors like black, yellow, white, and chocolate. On the other hand, Chihuahuas can have either a short-haired coat or a long-haired one. Fluffy coat is also common among this breed. They are available in many more colors than Labradors, such as white, black, chocolate, cream, fawn, and many more. They also have eleven official markings, including red, blue, black, white, merle, etc. You can read more about Chihuahua's color combinations on AKC. Coming to Labrahuahuas, they will usually have a single thick coat of short to medium length. Their coat texture can be either straight or wiry, and they come in various colors like black, brown, yellow, white, and red. Your mix will likely have a solid color. But he can also inherit a mixture of spots and colors like his Chihuahua parent. Grooming Needs How often your Labrahuahua pup needs grooming will depend entirely on which parent breed they favor in terms of fur. Both Chihuahua and Labrador have shed moderately throughout the year , so odds are, Labrahuahuas will also shed similarly. If they have a short coat, they'll obviously need less brushing than if their hair is longer. In any case, brushing them at least once a week is a good idea. You'll also need to clean their ears regularly to prevent ear infections from developing. Brushing their teeth and gums two to three times a week will keep them clean and avoid tartar buildup. You can also do it daily if you notice bad breath. Lastly, you have to trim their nails once every two weeks or once every month. Exercise Like Labradors, Labrahuahuas are very energetic dogs. They'll need about 30 to 60 minutes of exercise daily to stay content. Without their daily dose of physical activity, they will get bored and restless. They will then begin targeting your furniture with their strong Labrador jaws. All that energy has to be released somewhere, right? For this reason, only families that can devote lots of time should adopt Labrahuahuas. As we've said, these dogs love attention and cannot be left alone. They would prefer large homes with backyards, but they can also adjust to apartments, thanks to their small size. Note that if you have an apartment, you'll need to give him a lot more exercise to keep him from getting bored and destructive. Labrahuahuas will not be content with the same exercise over and over again. They're very smart, so you'll need to mix things up to keep them interested and engaged. Jogging, retrieving, playing, long walks, and running are some things they love. We've discussed that Labs were first bred to swim in icy waters, which means your Labrahuahua will also love paddling through the water. Don't think of bringing this breed into your home unless you can give him plenty of time daily. Training Labradors are intelligent dogs that are always eager to please their masters. We're combining that with the stubbornness and independence of Chihuahua. So it should be fairly easy to train your Labrahuahua, but he will likely ignore you every now and then. You'll need to be very patient with him and take baby steps in his training. As with all breeds, the positive reinforcement method yields the best results. However, a more formalized training process is essential in helping your dog reach it's maximum potential. One method I recommend is using an online dog training program. This eliminates the inconvenience of having to travel for weekend training, and is significantly more affordable. Check out my Recommended Products page for more information. Early socialization is indispensable as it'll help him become a family pet and behave well around children. Socialization is required for all dog breeds, but it is especially vital for snappy breeds like Chihuahua. Exploring new objects, dogs, and people will build his confidence and teach him how to be a good pup. Crate training is also essential for Labrahuahuas because they're likely to get anxious when you're not around. Health Labrahuahuas have a life expectancy of 10 to 15 years. These dogs are generally relatively healthy, and their medical bills won't be a burden on you. However, they may sometimes acquire genetic diseases from either parent, especially if the breeder is not careful. Knowing what to look out for can help you prevent these congenital deformities in these dogs. So here are the major health concerns of Labrahuahuas: Patellar Luxation: This is a condition in which your pet's kneecap moves out of its place, causing lameness in the dog. It is prevalent among small dogs. Many toy or small breeds, including Chihuahuas, are genetically predisposed to patellar luxation. Entropion: This is an eye disorder in which the dog's eyelids roll inward. It causes pain, corneal ulcers, and interferes with the dog's vision. Your pet will have to go through surgery if he suffers from entropion. Cardiomyopathy: It is one of the most common heart diseases in canines. In this disease, the dog's heart muscles wear thin and degenerate. Although this disease is often diagnosed in giant and large breeds, it is partly genetic, which means it can be passed on from parent dogs to their children. It would be best to consult your veterinarian regarding the best diet for your Labrahuahua. The vet will give you the best advice regarding this matter after examining your dog. Don't serve your dog lots of high-calcium and high-energy food as it can lead to orthopedic diseases. Labrahuahuas can become overweight very quickly, and obese dogs attract a host of diseases. Labradors are known to be voracious eaters, and if your Labrahuahua inherits his Lab parent's appetite, he'll be a food fanatic. This means you will have to monitor the amount of food your pet eats. Feeding him little and often will be the safest option, so you may have to feed him at least three times a day. You must also give your pet enough time after eating to digest the food properly. Avoid leaving any food in the bowl for free eating, and enforce a strict exercise schedule. It plays a significant role in keeping your dog in shape. Start by looking for this breed in your local rescue shelters. They may or may not have one available for adoption right away. You can talk to the staff, and they might be able to point you in the right direction. Once you've searched local shelters, it's time to look into dedicated breed rescue organizations. American Lab Rescue and Chihuahua Rescue are excellent websites to start with. These guys take care of and rehome mixed breeds, and you'll probably find what you're looking for. Here are some other sites you can head over to:. Chihuahuador Description The Labrahuahua is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Chihuahua and the Labrador Retriever. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. I got her from the animal shelter when she was 8 weeks old, and she is now a year old. She is very smart, friendly, playful, and loyal. She loves to snuggle, and chase a tennis ball this is how she gets most of her exercise, she does need to run. She does many tricks for bites of cheese. My favorite trick is that she whispers! She plays with her squeaky toys a lot! She has a wonderful temperament, mostly relaxed but she can get a little nervous and excited at times around some people, dogs, and in the car. She weighs 35 lbs. She makes my heart smile every day! He is very well behaved. He loves to play fetch with his toys or cuddle under a blanket with me. Never would I have thought a yellow lab and a 5lbs Chihuahua could've made a puppy nonetheless one as cute as him. Neiko is extremely smart he was potty trained at only 6 weeks old! His colors are from the dad Chihuahua but his actually features are definitely all from the gorgeous Lab. At 5-months-old he weighed 49lbs. I'm so curious as to how big he will get. I never would've believed it was true until I met his amazing previous owners who let me see both the mom and dad. They said it was definitely an accident and both were very surprised since they had both of the dogs for years. He has brought so much joy into me and my husbands life. Bedtime on our bed is his favorite time! As a mixed breed, it is impossible to predict the looks and temperament of a Labrahuahua puppy. Especially when the parent breeds are as different as this. But, the parent breeds can still be a great guide. You can expect your Chihuahua Lab mix to be somewhere in between the sizes of its two parents. But read on to prepare for every eventuality before bringing one of these breeds home. Have you heard of the Labrahuahua—the Chihuahua and Labrador Retriever mix? This mixed breed is rare. It can only result from artificially inseminating a female Labrador with sperm from a male Chihuahua. As you might imagine, a female Chihuahua physically cannot birth Labrador mix puppies! Besides the breeding process, are there any other challenges with the Chihuahua Lab mix? This article examines both of the parent breeds to see how they might combine. Chihuahua Lab Mix History Mixing breeds for best traits of each has become more common in the past few decades. As well as mixing traits, designer breeders think mixing genes may prevent health issues that occur in some breeds. Both sides bring up good points. There are pros and cons to purebred and mixed dogs. The history of the Chihuahua Lab mix is not well-established. Perhaps there are valid reasons that the Labrahuahua comes in for criticism. It makes this improbable combo something of a spectacle. Chihuahua History Chihuahuas are descendants of a slightly larger, indigenous dog that was known as the Techichi. Techichi were used as hunters, companions, and for ceremonial reasons by the Toltec people. They lived in what is now Mexico. Artifacts featuring Techichi date back to BC. Over centuries, Techichi were bred to be smaller. In the s, Americans visiting the state of Chihuahua, Mexico fell in love with the breed. Although the breed did not technically originate there. They retrieved nets from chilly waters and hauled fish carts on the Canadian island of Newfoundland. Once in England, hunters used Labradors as waterfowl retrievers. Did You Know…. Chihuahuas are the national dog of Mexico. Many celebrities have had Chihuahua pets. Labradors have been voted the favorite dog breed in America for 28 years in a row. Labrador Retrievers are descendants of the now extinct St. You may end up with a more Chihuahua-like or more Labrador-like mixed pup. Size is the most obvious difference between these two breeds. Chihuahuas often do not stand more than 8 inches tall or weigh more than 6 pounds. On the other hand, Labs stand .A Chihuahua Lab mix will be smaller than a Lab but larger than a Chihuahua. You can expect a small- to medium-sized dog. This mix will likely have the athletic, proportioned body of a Lab. Its ears will be triangular but can be upright or floppy. Chihuahua x Lab Coats Labs have a short, dense coat. But, Chihuahuas either have soft short or long hair. It might be fine and soft like a Chihuahua, or coarse and almost greasy like a Lab. Lab coloration is chocolate, black, or yellow. Some have white markings. Chihuahua coloration varies widely. From white, blue, red, black, brindle, and more. Popular colorations include tricolor, black, white, and fawn. Chihuahua Lab Mix Personality Mixes inherit personality traits from either parent. Socialization and training are a must to foster desired traits and prevent unwanted behaviors. As one of the U. But they can have a lot of energy! Chihuahuas are small dogs with big egos! Unfortunately, Chihuahuas are known to be aggressive. Including family members. A Chihuahua Lab mix may inherit this tendency to aggression. Training and socialization at a young age can help curb this. But, it is something to keep in mind when bringing a Chihuahua mixed breed into a home with small children and other animals. In general, a Labrahuahua will be a mix of confidence, liveliness, and loyalty. Chihuahua Lab Mix Training Beginning training and socialization at a young age is important to any dog breed. Will a Labrahuahua be easy to train? Labs are very intelligent and trainable. Chihuahuas are also very smart. But they are somewhat stubborn. If your Labrahuahua has some of this stubbornness, it may be challenging to train. Potty training can be difficult with small dogs like Chihuahuas. Consistent training using positive reinforcement is key to successful training with this mix. Our Online Training Guides will help you with this process. Both parent breeds are active and playful. So a Labrahuahua will need regular exercise and playtime. If it is smaller in size, use caution with the amount and type of exercise you choose for your Chihuahua Lab mix. Chihuahua Lab Mix Health Mixed breed dogs may inherit illnesses from their parents. Some breeds also have health issues related to their size or conformation. The Lab and Chihuahua breeds are both considered relatively healthy. A healthy and well cared for Labrahuahua may live 10 to 16 years. But, there is still a risk that a Lab Chihuahua mix might develop health problems during its lifetime. Some health issues can be screened or tested for. Here are some of the common health issues with each parent breed. Chihuahua Health Issues As such a small breed, Chihuahuas are prone to several health issues including: impacted teeth. Size: Small to medium depending on the parents Coat: Thick single coat Colors: Black, yellow, brown, white, and red History Of The Labrahuahua As the Chihuahua-Lab mix is such a recent hybrid, the history of the Labrahuahua is still unclear. It is suggested that the hybrid came about in the s when designer breeds were becoming popular. Chihuahua History The history of Chihuahuas is mysterious, but historians have suggested that the breed descends from the pre-Columbian dog, the ancient Techichi. The Techichi dog was slightly larger than modern-day Chihuahuas, and people owned these dogs as companions. Americans discovered the Chihuahua we know today in the mids in the city of Chihuahua in Mexico. During the s, Mexican merchants started to sell the Chihuahua dog to tourists who took them home as pets. The name of the dog was unclear at this point, so they were often given the name of the state they were seen in. For a while, the Chihuahua was known as the Arizona dog and the Mexico dog. Nowadays, Chihuahuas are a popular small breed for their spunky and hilarious personality. While they might only weigh less than six pounds, they certainly make up for their size in attitude. Labrador History The Labrador was bred in the s by European settlers who wanted to create the perfect dog for hunting and water purposes. For the last 30 years, the Labrador has become possibly the most popular dog breed in the world. This breed is known for its loveable, loyal, and affectionate nature. They are energetic dogs that need a lot of exercise , and they are brilliant swimmers. Labrahuahua Appearance Trying to picture a Chihuahua-Lab mix is almost like trying to picture a mix between a giraffe and a lion. While it might seem impossible to mix the two together, almost purely for the size difference, it is actually possible. It does seem odd, though. As with all designer hybrids, no two Labrahuahuas will look the same. When you breed two dogs together, the result will look more like one than the other. Labrahuahuas are smaller than Labradors, and bigger than Chihuahuas. The males are usually bigger than the females as with most dog breeds , and breeders claim that the hybrid ranges from cm tall and kg heavy. It all mostly depends on the size of the parents. In most cases, you can expect a Labrahuahua to have a slim build and slightly shorter legs. It might have a muscular build with a pointed face and large, round eyes. Each Labrahuahua will look different from the next, but the general appearance is a dog that inherits characteristics from both parents. Some Labrahuahua owners have observed that their dog looks more like a large Chihuahua, while others have said their dog looks more like a small Labrador. There is no way of telling what the puppy will grow to look like! In most cases, the temperament of the dog will be mostly unpredictable. Labrahuahuas are very needy dogs. This is because Labradors are notoriously friendly and love cuddles, and Chihuahuas are prone to separation anxiety. This means that they will need constant attention, otherwise, they might become destructive from boredom and anxiety. One of the downsides of Chihuahuas is that they can be aggressive when not trained properly. These aggressive traits can be easily controlled by early and constant training for the Labrahuahua from a young age. They will need regular socializing and a firm hand to make them know that you are the boss though the Chihuahua in them will sometimes disagree! Image Source: harrisinthehills Instagram Labrahuahua Coat: Colors And Texture Chihuahuas are either long-haired or short-haired dogs that can come in a variety of colors, markings, and color combinations. The colors their coats come in include fawn, cream, white, black, chocolate, and more. The colors of this coat are black, white, yellow, and chocolate. The coat of a Labrahuahua will vary depending on the parentage, but generally speaking, Chihuahua-Lab mixes have a single thick coat that is short to medium in length. The texture of the coat is either wired or straight, and it usually comes in the main colors of black, white, brown, yellow, and red. The dog might have some Chihuahua-like markings if the parent exhibited them. Grooming A Labrahuahua Labrahuahuas are moderate shedders, which means owners need to get used to frequent vacuuming and grooming. Generally speaking, Labrahuahuas should be brushed once a week. This is to promote healthy shedding by brushing out their old hair to allow new hair to grow. The same goes for bathing, as frequent bathing will prevent more shedding. Labradors are exposed to ear infections due to their floppy ears. Similarly, their nails need to be observed to see if they need a trim. In most cases, you should vary their walks so they can naturally trim their nails on hard surfaces like concrete. Feeding them dry food is a good step towards this, but you might want to stock up on dental chews and cleaning equipment to prevent tartar or plaque buildup. You should clean their teeth times a week. Labrahuahua Exercise Because of the Labrador parentage, Labrahuahuas are energetic dogs that need frequent exercise. These dogs should get at least minutes of exercise a day. If a Labrahuahua does not meet these exercise requirements daily, they can become destructive in the house. Furniture and shoes will be bitten and torn, they will try to eat dog and human food lying around, and they might urinate or defecate in the house to make a point. To prevent this chaotic restlessness, Labrahuahuas must belong to a family or household that can accommodate their needs. They can adjust to apartments due to their size, but they do best in houses with yards to run around in. In terms of the type of exercise, Labrahuahuas will become bored from doing the same exercise daily. One day, go to the park. The next day, go to the beach. Make sure to bring balls and toys to allow them to run around a play fetch, and even take them on the occasional run! As Labradors are water dogs, your Labrahuahua will love to go swimming. Training A Labrahuahua While Labrahuahuas are intelligent dogs, this intelligence can lead to stubbornness. With the personality traits of both Chihuahuas and Labradors, training your dog is likely to be unpredictable. Some days, the dog will be eager to please. The next day, the dog will ignore you. You just have to be patient and consistent with training the dog from a young age. There are plenty of ways to train a dog to your liking. If you find yourself struggling with training, try to take yourself and your dog to a professional trainer. Group classes are great because they will teach your dog both how to socialize and how to ignore other dogs when you give it a command. Instead, please their Labrador instincts by praising them with a lot of cuddles. With practice and time, your Labrahuahua will remember its training for life! Socializing your dog from a young age is essential for all dog breeds. While Labrahuahuas have the friendly attributes of their Labrador mum, the Chihuahua father attributes will make it somewhat unpredictable. To prevent your dog from becoming stubborn, aloof, and potentially snappy, you must socialize it with other dogs, animals, and humans from when it is a puppy. These dogs are needy and can be prone to social anxiety, so you must teach them that you will return when you leave the house. Training them with a positive association to a crate will prevent them from getting destructive around the house, and will also stop them from fearing the crate. Image Source: harrisinthehills Instagram Labrahuahua Health Risks Labrahuahuas can live between years and are generally healthy dogs. However, there are some genetic health risks that they are predisposed to because of their parents. Not only this, but your breeder should give you medical information about the parents so you are aware of possible vet bills in the future. Weight Gain Labradors are notorious eaters. They are prone to weight gain as they lack a gene that tells them to stop eating. To prevent injuries from weight gain, such as arthritis and hip dysplasia. Cardiomyopathy Cardiomyopathy is a genetic heart disease that is common amongst all dogs — especially large breeds. This disease is where the heart muscles begin to wear down and thin. This is a genetic disease, which should be noted in medical information by the breeder. PatellarLuxation Small dogs like Chihuahuas are predisposed to patellar luxation. This is a condition where the kneecaps can move out of place, resulting in lameness. Small dogs are prone to this due to how often they jump onto couches and beds. Weight gain can contribute to this, too. Eye Issues Eye problems like cataracts and entropion where the eyelids roll inward are common in most dogs. Labrahuahua Nutrition Each Labrahuahua will have different nutritional requirements, which is why it is important to follow the guidelines set out by a vet. They should eat little and often with enough time to digest the food before or after they exercise. The key to a good nutritional diet for Chihuahua-Lab mixes is to avoid carbs like the plague. High-protein and low-carb kibble is ideal, as this will suit their energy levels without promoting weight gain. You should avoid artificial fillers and stick to all-natural ingredients, as this is the healthiest option for your dog. As this is a rare hybrid, you need to keep an eye on local rescue centers to see if you get lucky. If you cannot find a Labrahuahua in a rescue center, the next option is to find a reputable breeder. Reputable breeders should willingly give you all the necessary documentation, such as medical histories of the parents, proof of licensing, etc. Yes, you can mix a Labrador with a Chihuahua! The safest way to do this is by artificial insemination. How big will a Chihuahua Lab mix get? Generally speaking, a Chihuahua-Lab mix will reach cm tall. It all depends on the size of the parents, as you might be mixing a large Chihuahua with a small Labrador. A Chihuahua-Lab mix will look like a small Labrador with pointy ears, a slightly pointed face, large eyes, short legs, and a slim build. Final Words There you have it, the ultimate guide to the Labrahuahua! As you now know, the Chihuahua-Lab mix is a unique hybrid that comes with little information. With proper training and care, a Labrahuahua can be a wonderful companion for a family. These dogs are friendly and affectionate, but they require a lot of patience and attention to accommodate for their bouts of aloofness and ignorance. The perfect household for a Labrahuahua is one that can provide minutes of exercise daily, consistent obedience training, and a lot of cuddles!

Puppy mills are an unfortunate reality in the dog world today. Many people buy puppies from stores that are not good. These stores have dogs that live in bad conditions. There are lots of great places to get your next puppy, but there are also lots of puppy mills out there too. When you encounter these things it almost always means you have found an ethical, healthy, and responsible breeder. The main one is that they do not allow their dogs to be bought over the internet. Asking around your community is also a great way to find reputable pug dog breeders. But, for those who care enough about the well-being of their dogs to join a pug club and show their dogs in events, you can trust that they are reputable and provide a decent quality of life for their pugs. It is possible to find American Kennel Club registered pugs for sale from a private individual as well. These types of pugs may or may not have papers, but they will be listed for a much lower price than those from a Pug Dog Club. It is important to check the history and quality of life of any pug you consider purchasing from an individual seller, as these dogs are often bred in unsanitary conditions or are placed with families who do not have the time to raise them. The imperial court kept pugs because they were treasured by the Emperors who assigned guards to protect them while they the pugs lived in extravagance. Keeping pugs in Europe started at the House of Orange in the Netherlands. The pug became the official pug of the house after it saved the Prince of Orange from Assassins. Although these pugs were said to have been brought from China, the pugs from Europe at that time, as seen in pictures depict longer legs and nose. The pugs became prominent in the United States in the nineteenth century. They easily became family companions and show dogs. Their loyalty is unwavering, they do well with children their calmness and sturdy physique allows them to tolerate children easily. Their Alertness makes them good security dogs but they are not predominantly used for security purposes. Pugs are stubborn, but this does not transform into aggressive manners. The pug thrives indoors. It is usually kept close to families that own it. It is classified by most Kennel Clubs as a toy dog. Despite their adaptation to heat, pugs cannot thrive well outdoors in hot and humid regions Pugs do not require high-intensity exercises; however moderate exercising will be sufficient. A reserved and reasonable amount of space for the dog to move around is ideal. The pugs have a fine coat that is sufficient to protect them from heat and cold. Maintaining a pug has low requirements. However, wrinkles and eyes have to be cleaned daily. Our Pugs puppies for sale come from either USDA licensed commercial breeders or hobby breeders with no more than 5 breeding mothers. Life Span Did You Know? The German Shepherd is one of the most versatile, well-recognized, and popular dog breeds in the world. The modern German Shepherd is descended from a family of various German herding dogs. Breed standards were not developed until the late 19th century when Captain Max von Stephanitz, a German cavalry officer, worked with Arthur Meyer and other breeders to develop the ideal German herding dog. Stephanitz and Meyer wrote the breed standard in and the American Kennel Club recognized the German Shepherd as a member of the Herding Group in .Although they were originally bred as herding dogs, they were also bred for versatility, which made the German Shepherd an all-around working dog that could excel in a variety of applications. German Shepherds are one of the common dog breeds employed in K-9 units in both police and military applications. They also make great service dogs and, of course, are still awesome herding dogs and farm dogs! The German Shepherd is a strong-willed and highly intelligent dog. They have a playful, energetic spirit and tend to get along with children, other dogs, and other pets, which makes them a great family companion. A born protector, the German Shepherd will provide a great sense of security for their family while their loving and lively personality will make them fit right in as a companion. German Shepherds are naturally protective and can be wary of strangers at first. A well-socialized German Shepherd will bark to alert you and tends to warm up to strangers once introduced. German Shepherds are dogs that were bred to herd and work. This, plus their high energy, makes them a better fit for homes with fenced yards where they can run. They can adapt well to larger apartments as long as plenty of time is dedicated to ensuring they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention every day. A bored, ignored, or under-exercised German Shepherd can often become a destructive one. They also can be sensitive to their surroundings and large gatherings can be off-putting. With a longer coat, they tend to prefer cooler climates and are sensitive to heat. The German Shepherd is a generally healthy breed, but there are some potential health concerns and good breeding practices make a big difference. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a German Shepherd include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia , and degenerative myelopathy. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a barrel-chested breed, the German Shepherd is also at risk for bloat. While the German Shepherd is highly intelligent and highly trainable, they are generally not recommended for novice owners. If you are a novice dog owner, enroll in puppy training classes or enlist the help of a professional dog trainer; not just for your dog, but for yourself as well. Training assistance will help you grow in experience and build a strong bond between you and your German Shepherd puppy, which is essential. Also, the GSD has a thirst for training and fulfillment. They get bored easily and especially with repetition, so continued training with your German Shepherd throughout their life will be necessary. German Shepherds have a medium-to-long double coat. They will shed year-round and heavier as seasons change. Brushing a few times a week is usually sufficient; brushing daily is even better and your GSD will likely love you for it. Bathing is occasional on an as-needed basis. Ear checks weekly with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. German Shepherds are high-energy working dogs. Not only do they require a lot of daily activity, but they also are a herding breed that was made to run, guard, and observe, so they need a job to do to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough for a GSD, but they will likely be up for more activity if you are. With their versatility and athleticism, you can try a lot of different activities when puppies finish growing and they are cleared for higher-impact things. A fully-grown German Shepherd usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. German Shepherds generally live for years on average. Corporal Duncan brought him back to the United States and Rin-Tin-Tin became one of the most famous dog actors in history. Featured German Shepherd Article.

available bernedoodle puppies mn - All breeds of Labrador Retrievers are known for being kind and gentle — and this trait runs especially strong with the chocolate-colored sweeties. While these dogs are very friendly to strangers, they have even more affection to give to their beloved families. Your Chocolate Lab puppy or adult will be happiest spending time with their favorite people. If you have young children, a lab is a great fit, as this breed is usually quite tolerant of the horseplay of small children who are still learning how to interact with pets. Just like many people, Chocolate Labs enjoy both downtime — especially if it involves being pampered by their family — and active high-energy fun. We recommend daily exercise, which can include anything from fetch, to tag, or even frisbee games. The average Chocolate Lab lifespan is between 9 and 11 years. The most common Chocolate Lab health problem is hip dysplasia, which occurs more commonly in older and overweight dogs. This is just one of the reasons to make exercise a common part of your time with a Chocolate Lab puppy or fully grown adult. Another problem that occurs in overweight labs is joint and movement issues. The other most common Chocolate Lab health problems are: Progressive Retinal Atrophy Cataracts Elbow Dysplasia As is the case with any dog, when you bring home a Chocolate Labrador, make sure that you have a good vet to handle routing vaccinations and check-ups as well as emergency health problems. Learn more about the Keystone Puppies Health Guarantee! Chocolate Lab Coat Care In general, Chocolate Lab coat care is easy compared to many other dog breeds which require weekly or daily work. Labrador Retrievers all have double coats, which includes an under layer of short hairs and a slightly longer top layer. This coat is useful for repelling water and keeping them cool in warmer temperatures — and warm in cooler ones. Their coat is also noted to be slightly dry and oily. Chocolate Lab coat care is fairly minimal and considered low maintenance. The coat should be brushed with a firm bristle brush 2 — 3 times per month to minimize shedding. In addition to that, baths are needed fairly infrequently. What is more crucial is ensuring that their toenails are well cared for throughout the year. Meet Chocolate Lab Puppies for Sale. Life Span Did You Know? Labrador Retrievers are one of the most popular dog breeds. The Chocolate Labrador Retriever is not a distinct dog breed from other Labs, but it is a separate coat color variation that is specifically bred for. Similar to the other standard coat colors of Labrador Retrievers, Chocolate Labs are energetic dogs that get along well in a family setting. As a Retriever, they also make great hunting dogs and have also been known to fill other working dog roles including service dogs, guide dogs, search-and-rescue dogs, and more. They are even one of the common dog breeds employed in K-9 units. A point of interest is that all modern Chocolate Labrador Retrievers can be traced to three specific Black Labradors that lived during the s. Chocolate Labs are industrious little pups. They were bred for retrieval and will often sniff about for something to get into. They are also one of the most affectionate dog breeds and absolutely love being with their favorite humans. Properly socialized and well-trained, Labs are one of the kid-friendly dog breeds. They get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. They are famously even-tempered and playful. This makes them fantastic dogs for a growing family, as they tend to be gentle and patient with little ones. They can have a high prey drive. They usually do well with small pets within the family that they have been raised with or socialized around, but likely will still have the urge to chase other animals while out and about. They also tend to be open and friendly with strangers. After all, strangers are just more people to give them attention and play with them. Chocolate Labrador Retrievers may be high-energy dogs, but they are also highly adaptable. They will thrive in homes with fenced yards where they can run freely. They can adapt well to apartment living as well as long as they get plenty of daily exercise, attention, and mental stimulation. Their natural urge to dig and bark when they are bored or agitated can be quelled with a little training and exercise. Although they can handle some alone time, Labs love to be with their families and thrive on attention from them, so they do not like to spend long periods of time alone. Chocolate Labs also have a water-resistant double coat that makes them well-suited for most habitable climates. As with most dogs, they are sensitive to heat. Although they can handle some cold and will likely love to play in the snow, they are not a snow dog breed and may need to bundle up while out on walks in areas with harsher winters. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a Chocolate Labrador Retriever can include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia , progressive retinal atrophy, cataracts, hereditary myopathy, and heart disease. There is also a condition with a genetic link called exercise-induced collapse EIC , which can occur in young adult Labradors. Carriers of this can be identified by DNA tests and it is advised that breeders test for this and avoid practices that would produce the disease. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of puppies and reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. Make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of both parents and about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a large, deep-chested dog breed, Labrador Retrievers are at a higher risk for bloat. Bloat in dogs can be dangerous and can quickly become fatal if the stomach flips gastric torsion. Chocolate Labrador Retrievers are incredible companions and are also one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners. Their energy can make them a handful at times, but their intelligence, adaptability, patience with people, and eagerness to please make them easy to train. Labs are one of the smartest dog breeds , so they pick up on things easily. As long as training is consistent and focused on positive reward and praise, a Chocolate Lab will do their best to respond as expected and will often exceed expectations. Chocolate Labs have a short, water-resistant coat that will shed year-round. Brushing a few times a week, daily brushing during seasonal shedding, and the occasional bath are all that are needed to keep a Lab coat healthy and looking great. They may need baths more often if they are avid swimmers, go on a lot of outdoor adventures, and get dirty a lot. Floppy ears tend to trap dirt, moisture, and debris. Proper dental care for dogs is imperative to help prevent painful dental diseases like gum disease or tooth decay later in life. You can also supplement your dental care efforts with vet-approved dental hygiene chews. Labrador Retrievers are one of the most active dog breeds and need a lot of daily activity to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough, but your Chocolate Labrador will likely be up for more activity if you are. One of the facts about Labrador Retrievers is that they have an extended puppyhood and tend to maintain that puppy-like energy and maturity until they are years old. Swimming can be a great lower-impact activity and Labrador Retrievers are one of the dog breeds that tend to love water. Between that, their water-resistant coat, and webbed toes, you may have trouble getting your Chocolate Lab out of the water. Fully-grown Chocolate Labrador Retrievers usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Chocolate Labs generally live for years on average.
