Exercise Grooming In the 19th century, Shepherds bred all kinds of dogs mainly to herd and guard flocks. Thus, the dogs needed to display a high level of intelligence, extra normal strength, resilience, courage and bravery, a keen sense of smell, and trainability qualities, etc. These mongrel combinations provided dog breeds that could efficiently guard and herd flocks but differed in appearance and ability, from one locality to another. German Shepherd dogs are well known to be highly inquisitive which makes them excellent for rescue mission training. The German Shepherd has a noble character and shows very high levels of loyalty to its owners. The dog is also described as extremely territorial and has displayed characteristics of overprotectiveness in some cases. The German shepherd can survive in all types of environment; their thick furriness makes them better prepared for cold climates. German Shepherds are considered extremely playful and active. These breeds spend half of their daily routine with activities. The German Shepherd is popularly known as an athletic natured dog and requires a good dose of daily exercise to keep up muscle tone, build and development. If improperly exercised the German Shepherd has been known to become frustrated and exhibit undesirable behaviors. The German Shepherd requires an occasional brushing, as this helps with removing loose hair from its fur. The German Shepherd sheds fur once or twice a year and in this time the breed requires a lot of soft brushing. This can be done using a soft to medium bristle brush. The German Shepherd occasionally requires that its nails are trimmed off when they grow too long, however, some breeds instinctually file their nails against any hard surface that can be fine. Excessive nail growth can cause much pain and even lead to structural concerns. In choosing a German Shepherd breed you must ask yourself what it is you want in a dog and what kind of person are you? Our German Shepherd puppies for sale come from either USDA licensed commercial breeders or hobby breeders with no more than 5 breeding mothers. We only purchase puppies from the very best sources, and we stand behind every puppy we sell. German Shepherd Puppies vs. Adults Dog Training Elite Central Kentucky recommends starting dog training as early as possible, soon after a puppy is ready to leave its mother. Puppies are capable of learning basic commands, and smart German Shepherd puppies do great with early training. Dog Training Elite Central Kentucky has adult dog training programs as well. A complete puppy training typically takes a few months. Adult dog training can take longer or shorter, depending on whether a dog needs to unlearn bad habits in addition to being trained. Working with a German Shepherd and the owner directly in the home allows dog trainers to create personalized training plans for individual dogs, as well as address any unique needs or issues. Once a dog has completed in-home training, they can take group classes for more in-depth training - Dog Training Elite Central Kentucky offers both puppy and adult dog group classes. Beginning training in the home also helps owners bond with their dogs so when the dog trainer leaves, no progress is lost. This includes developing conditioned or automatic reflexes to commands. In its simplest form after proper conditioning , when the owner says "sit," the dog automatically sits without thinking about it. Our unique techniques ensure our program is a success no matter what behavior we encounter. Empowering Owners We empower owners to train so their dog knows who to obey at all times. Personalized We deal with problem behaviors on a personal basis. Environment Specific We train wherever issues tend to arise i. Supportive We support owners in the off-hours when training is "not in session". Involved We work with all members of the household. Satisfaction Ratings Our high client satisfaction rating sets us apart from competitors. Also, be consistent about rules - establish at the beginning, for example, whether or not your dog is allowed on the couch. An energetic dog with little to no exercise can become a destructive, disobedient dog. Training is a great way to give German Shepherds the mental and physical stimulation they need. Dog Training Elite Central Kentucky has developed training programs for puppies and adult dogs alike based on positive reinforcement. German Shepherd training with our in-home option is entirely possible. All Sizes. All Ages. The Dog Training Elite Difference Dog Training Elite Central Kentucky uses modern training methods focused on positive reinforcement and bonding between dog and dog owner. Dog Training Elite Central Kentucky never resorts to the use of punishment to help dogs unlearn bad behavior. The difference becomes clear when comparing a dog that is trained out of anxiety and intimidation vs a dog who truly desires to please from the inside out. The Dog Training Elite Central Kentucky training theory is mostly based around classical conditioning, also known as the Pavlovian method or respondent conditioning. In its simplest form after proper conditioning , when an owner says "sit," their dog automatically sits without thinking about it. Through a combination of commands and an electronic collar, dogs learn to follow commands at once. Other dog trainers use harsh static collars or spray collars which have been shown to be less effective. Ready to turn your dog into a loyal and loving companion? I started working with Tom about three months after adopting my very anxious rescue, Frannie, who was about 14 months old at the time. I tried other training programs, as well as just figuring things out from YouTube videos on my own but after a few months of nightmarish daily walks and hateful looks when I tried to go out with Frannie who would just bark her head off the moment we stepped outside, well, I decided it was time to get professional help. The very first one-on-one class with Tom was a complete game-changer. No more pulling after just one class with Tom! She is now also able to walk past most of the bunnies hopping around without trying to chase after them and this makes the walks so much safer not having to constantly worry about her taking off after a rabbit or squirrel and run out right in front of a car. Frannie is a smart girl but she is also very stubborn, so there have been several things she has been slow to learn to perform well and Tom is always very patient with her, and of course with me too. The next-level game-changer was when we started attending group classes. I was always envious of people whose pups just lay next to them quietly while they are able to carry a conversation with other people for an hour or two. Now I constantly get compliments on how well-behaved my dog is. She has improved so incredibly much since working with Tom and I look forward to continuing our work with him. When we had our consultation our dog Bella Cane Corso was jumping on Tom and his assistant she even got in the couch with them. NOT the behavior we wanted with guests coming over and she is over lbs. We set up training and Bella was nothing short of difficult and did not want to listen or act on any commands. After the home sessions I could see some improvement and changes in her behavior. Next we moved to the group class and I was completely nervous that she would be a class clown. The first session was difficult. She continually improved. Now she walks next to me and lets me lead, she is no longer afraid to walk on the small wall or complete the obstacle course on command. I can take her into pets stores and I have control of her. She no longer jumps on guests when they come visit she sits and allows them to greet her. She is so much more enjoyable when we are out and about. He also takes time to train the owners on the proper ways to interact with your pet in a positive way to train without negative reinforcement. I look forward to class now and Bella does too! Thank you Tom!!!! As a young puppy, she would bite and chew on my arms, nip at the back of my arms to the point I was bloody, scratched, scabbed and bruised! I had to take her to the veterinarian to get medication to calm her at night just to be able to do simple house chores. After our first at home lesson, Millie obeyed and was so good. She loved Tom and I wanted to cry. Just watching her walk in a leash, stop and sit, was amazing. Since then she has amazed me on what she can learn, she is so smart! We just finished our at home training and in just 5 weeks, Millie is no longer a devil child, but a happier well behaved, smart member of our family!! It is such a blessing to see her listen and follow commands and listen. Tom is so good with her and very patient. He is very knowledgeable and Millie just loved him, and his pocket that were he keeps the treats! Thank you Tom for giving me a well trained dog that will be happier and safer in her future. Looking forward to our group classes and see where this little girl can go and what she can learn!!! I highly recommend to get your dog trained, for your sake and theirs!! It made a world of difference in our day!! If your expectation is quality, Tom is unmatched. I came to Tom with an month dog, Woody, that had almost zero manners I say almost because I want to give myself some credit, haha. There were things I had to untrain because they contradicted what I was expecting from my dog. Hence, my quest to find help and Tom helped me understand what giving a dog a command even means. Tom was patient with Woody. More importantly, he was patient with me. I researched several other companies, but I decided to go with DTE and would recommend them for several reasons. DTE provides in-home training. This was incredibly important to me as I wanted to learn as my dog was learning. Although sending my pup away for a couple of weeks seemed enticing, having it in the home allowed me full access and reassurance of the quality of care. I was learning just as much as my dog was, and we were doing it together, which created a deeper bond. Woody does better when I give him commands, so having him home was essential to me. DTE is patient. He gave me and Woody confidence to keep working. For example, Woody had a hard time on the step ladder. It took Woody weeks to get the confidence to jump on the step ladder. Tom would guide me on specific techniques until one clicked. DTE invests in your success. Tom is polite and takes a genuine interest in meeting my training needs. Although I am swamped during the week, he ensures I am set up for success and never overloads my homework. He even checks in. He truly gets to know you and your companion. Any time I have had a question or concern, Tom has been happy to help problem solve with me. He is a clear communicator, and willing to go the extra mile. I am so excited to continue working with him in the future! He is always so optimistic with my dog and my abilities with him throughout our training. Tom and Diane are amazing at what they do and are so passionate about dog training. They have given us our life back. He was so reactive to everyone except us. We couldn't have company over. We couldn't go places for extended periods of time, and honestly we didn't know when or if we would be able to have children. I know that there are dogs that no matter how much you try, they just cant be trained. We weren't going to give up on our boy though. We could see his true self when we were at home with him and we wanted other people to see that side of him. The results speak for themselves. The most common thing we hear is "He's like a whole new dog! There aren't words to describe our appreciation we have for these guys. They're definitely getting invited to the wedding! LOL If you're looking for great training with great trainers in a great environment, this is your place!

According to rankings by the American Kennel Club in , this breed is the number 2 in the option for families to buy amongst a selection of dog breeds. These bulldogs have a long history stemming from their original use for bull baiting in Britain. Many people still see these as an old English bulldog and a cultural icon, and it is one of the most popular dogs you will see in England. They do have fierce determination, persistence and an underrated strength, and these are part of why many people love them so much for a family companion. British bulldogs naturally have wide heads and shoulders, flat faces covered with skin folds and thick flaps, and a shorter and higher muzzle than many other dogs. Their thick facial skin folds are also present under their neck, and their pointed teeth and endless snorting constitute a significant factor in the fierce and sometimes scary look they have become known for. So why should you go for an English bulldog? What exactly makes them so special and wonderful anyway? Well, here are a few things we love about this breed of bulldogs. The first and most important benefit to us is that English bulldogs are very good guard dogs. Despite their relatively small size, these dogs are not to be underestimated. Their aggressive nature from their history of bull baiting has been passed down from generation to generation of bulldogs, making them mean fighters to intruders. These dogs do not hesitate to leap into action and defend their owners when there is a threat. Another big benefit is that they are family-friendly and safe to be around your children. Despite the strength and aggression they show to outsiders, you can be sure that your well-trained English bulldogs are perfect family friends that can be around your children with low chances of danger. This very tolerant breed loves to keep a quiet and watchful eye over its owners and is very good at informing you when they sense something wrong. Their short, stubby legs also make for some very funny moments, such as their clumsy efforts to climb onto surfaces, like your couch or their dramatic pouts and faces. English bulldogs have a natural pranking streak that makes you laugh effortlessly. Coming home to unwind and having an English bulldog waiting for you to home is a definite stress reliever and mood elevator. We need to rectify that, and we have the perfect English bulldog puppies for sale for you to make your pick from. With an English bulldog puppy, you can have that beautiful bully that your kids can grow up with, and that can be a perfect companion and guard for your home. All our English bulldogs are the healthiest and cutest selection of breeds that you will find in the country, and this is a fact. We have decades of veterinarian experience and expert knowledge in this breed that has helped us monitor and facilitate the best studs and breeders to produce these beautiful English bulldog puppies. We have male and female English bulldog puppies, and there are a variety of ages that you can pick from, whether you like an eight-week-old puppy, ten-week-old puppy, week old puppy, or even older. Not to be outdone by their British Bulldog cousin, the female french bulldogs also made the Top 10 Best Family Dog breeds list in .Looking to Adopt Bulldogs? This sweet bully girl was pulled from Long Beach Shelter with a dire need of surgery on her eyelids which we provided a few weeks ago. She is not in perfect health and ready for her forever home! When we first got Hershey, she was scared of other dogs and appeared to be reactive due to her fear barking, lunging, ready to get into it! We have had a dog trainer fostering her since her surgery and now she is able to comfortably go on walks side-by-side with other dogs while showing amazing leash manners! We LOVE the progress she has made in the last couple of weeks, but we are looking for a home where she is either the only dog, or is going to owners that are very, very savvy with crate rotations, dog behavior, etc. Of course, because of the risk involved for all parties, it is likely a preference that she is the only dog in the home. We would still love her to go to a home where she can keep practicing her training though! She loves to play with toys and get silly with her fosters in their yard. It may take her a little bit to warm up to new men. She is just so sensitive due to her traumatic past so we've waited to list her until now- we are seeing such great progress, we knew it was time to reveal this cutie!! She is crate trained, potty trained, just a wonder of a dog. She loves to snuggle SO much! Because she is such a velcro dog, we recommend her being crated when alone or at night to avoid the possibility of separation anxiety which is SO difficult to undo once it has begun. If you're looking for a gorgeous, well behaved dog to be your one and only, please apply for Hershey today!

For the complete list please see our German Shepherd Breeders close to you page. German Shepherds are one of the most popular breeds in America. When looking for a German Shepherd puppy, be sure to avoid pet stores and breeders who only offer puppies for sale online. Another option is to work with a breeder that offers health insurance for their puppies. This can help you avoid astronomical costs later on down the road, especially if you end up with an expensive breed of dog. This organization is dedicated to promoting and protecting the breed, and they only work with breeders who adhere to their high standards. The AKC maintains a list of reputable breeders who have met their rigorous standards and are committed to providing high-quality puppies. Do your research before buying a puppy, and be sure to ask lots of questions. Responsible breeders will be more than happy to answer all of your queries. This will allow you to see the puppies in their natural environment and meet their parents. It will also give you a chance to ask any questions you may have about the breed or the breeding process. You can also see the living conditions the puppies are kept in. When you visit a breeder, be sure to look for clean cages and plenty of human interaction. Grooming is also a good indication of how much care goes into raising these dogs, so be sure to check out the condition of their coats. High-quality German Shepherd breeders will always have a history of doing all they can to help their customers find the right puppy for their family situation. This will give you an idea of what your German Shepherd will look like when he or she grows up. Responsible breeders will only sell their puppies to families who are willing to commit to their welfare for the duration of their lives. Responsible breeders will be more than happy to provide you with the names and contact information of previous customers. Good breeders will have nothing to hide, so they should be more than willing to provide you with references. Be sure to contact the references and ask them about their experience working with the breeder. Were they happy with the puppy they purchased? Did the breeder follow up after the sale to make sure they were satisfied? How did their puppy turn out? Prior to making a purchase, ask for some pictures of the puppies with both parents. This will give you an idea of what kind of breeders they come from and how committed they are to excellent customer service. Insist on meeting the person who purchased your potential puppy and ask them about their experience with the breeder. Did they receive weekly updates after the purchase? Were all their questions answered during the purchasing process? Were they able to take home a healthy, happy puppy? Do they seem like someone you can trust? Are they knowledgeable about the breed and the breeding process? One of the best ways to judge a breeder is by their relationship with their veterinarian. These breeders will often produce puppies without regard for their health or well-being. Ask The Kentucky Breeder if Your German Shepherd Puppy Has Any Health Problems One of the biggest benefits of purchasing a puppy from a breeder is that you can rest assured that they have been health screened and are free from any genetic health problems. Be sure to ask the breeder about any health problems that may be common in the breed. They should be able to tell you about any genetic disorders that could potentially affect your puppy. This will make your life easier and ensure that their introduction to your family goes off without a hitch. Make sure there are no small objects or toys lying around, including things on shelves or in cabinets. With their powerful jaws, puppies can do some real damage if they get hold of something small and pointy. Put away all plants with berries that could potentially be deadly if eaten by a curious pup. Remove any string or wires that are visible. Secure any medications, cleaning supplies, alcohol, or anything else that may be harmful to a puppy. Create a designated space for your new pup, such as a crate or kennel. This will become their home base and a place where they can feel safe and secure. Set up a schedule for feeding, walking, and playing with your new puppy. Establishing these routines early on will help them develop good habits for the future. Bringing home a new German Shepherd puppy is an exciting experience for any family. Potty Training Your New German Shepherd Puppy Potty training your new pup is an incredibly important step in establishing a good relationship. Offer plenty of positive reinforcement for going potty in the right place. Have treats or other rewards on hand so that they associate certain behaviors with receiving something fun. Take them outside frequently, especially after meals and naps. Go to the same spot each time so they start to make the connection between going outside and doing their business. This will help them to understand that this is not acceptable behavior. By following these tips, you can potty train your new German Shepherd puppy quickly and easily. I love animals and love helping people adopt a pet. It all started when attending Missouri State University and I began volunteering at an animal shelter. All of our dogs meet the European Standard for health, confirmation, and working ability. We also have partnered up with several other high quality breeders that raise mini goldendoodle pups that meet our strict genetic criteria and testing. So we usually have a good selection of very high quality puppies. View Our Available Puppies! Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. Basically, a Show Golden is a natural variation of the Golden Retriever breed. Show Goldens gained their namesake as a result of, well, their competition standards. They are quite remarkable in appearance and have wonderful coats. The original Goldens came to be as a result of cross-breeding between various different breeds including: Water Spaniels, Yellow Retrievers, Irish Settlers, and Bloodhounds over several generations. In other words, all Golden Retriever subtypes including the British Golden subtype , are members of the same family, or breed. The Show Goldens belong to any of the 3 of the Golden subtypes. Because their temperament is friendly, fun-loving, and obedient just like normal Goldens. These pups are known for being loyal, eager to please, and attentive. Like all Goldens, they are playful and excitable. In short, their great, balanced temperament makes them a great addition to any home! Oftentimes, cheaper golden retriever puppies can ultimately cost you a LOT more money in the long run because they are more likely to have health issues. Are Show Goldens more expensive? Because of their desirable coats and specific standard, Show Goldens can be more expensive than certain other subtypes of Golden Retriever. What is the difference between Show Goldens and Golden Retriever? A Show Golden is a type of Golden Retriever. The Show Goldens do tend to sport slightly longer coats overall and have bigger bones on average. The main difference is easily their care requirements. Their long coats must consistently be maintained and brush to keep their appearance. How big is a full grown Show Golden Retriever? The weight range for these sweet pups can be from pounds for full-grown males, and pounds for full-grown females. Additionally, these babies tend to stand at about inches tall, with males being on the taller end of the spectrum. They are typically large-boned and have a more broadhead than an average Golden. Do Show Goldens shed? Yes, all types and variations of Golden Retrievers shed, and this is entirely normal for the breed. However, it is worth noting that because the Show Goldens often have a coat that is slightly longer than Standard Golden. More brushing is required to maintain their lovely coats. Are Show Golden Retrievers aggressive? The good news is— no, Show Golden Retrievers are not aggressive dogs by nature. In fact, due to their training they are very obedient. Just like standard Goldens they are sweet, calm, and lovable. They make a fantastic addition to any family including yours. Are Show Goldens more calm? When compared to other subtypes of Golden Retrievers, the main difference is simply their training and appearance plus care requirements. Due to their training they are more eager to please and faster to listen to commands. The best puppy breeders take pride in providing healthy dogs through careful genetic research. They should be so confident in their work that they offer you a health guarantee , which will tell you what to do if your puppy faces any unforeseen health issues. Since breeders are there from the day the puppies and their parents! And picking the right pet for your family starts with finding a breeder you can trust. No matter how nice they seem or how attractive their website looks, you should always do a little bit of research before choosing a Golden Retriever breeder. Here are important points that all breeders should address: Image Source Does the breeder give back to the breed? Breed preservation should be the primary goal of Golden Retriever breeders. They should participate in keeping the species alive through membership at a Golden Retriever breed dog club, a performance club, or an obedience club. What type of experience does the breeder have? Do they stay true to the pure genetic traits of the breed? Do they provide health screenings and health guarantees? Can you meet the puppies and parents in person? How many litters do the females have each year? Female Golden Retrievers can have up to two litters per year. However, breeders who follow ethical practices will only allow the females to have four to six litters in their lifetime. A female can breed between the ages of two and eight. Once you choose a breeder that seems like a good fit for you and your family, you should write up some questions to ask them. And in return, expect some questions about you, your lifestyle, and your home! One of the first things any breeder you inquire about should provide is a list of former buyers. Reviews posted online are one thing, but being able to talk with customers directly speaks volumes about the legitimacy of the breeder. When you speak with their former customers, ask questions about their buying experience and how their dog is doing years after purchase. Puppies should receive some level of preventative care that is appropriate for their age. Newborn puppies up to eight weeks old should stay with their mothers, but they will also receive their first round of core vaccines during these few weeks. They should have a yearly examination by a licensed veterinarian that will perform vaccines, flea, tick, and heartworm prevention, as well as general health checkups. A reputable, passionate breeder will be more than happy to receive updates and questions about their puppies well into adulthood. With that being said, the breeder should also provide a health guarantee. A health guarantee states that you are not financially liable for any genetic issues in the puppy, as long as the health condition is verified by a certified veterinarian. This is an essential point that you might not think twice about. A good Golden Retriever breeder will ask questions to determine if your household is a good fit for their puppy. Image Source 1 Why do you want a dog? This is a simple yet important question that you should have an answer to. Golden Retriever breeders that dedicate their livelihood to continuing the pure genetic bloodline will want to know what appeals to you about these energetic companions. Additionally, the breeder might ask who will be walking, feeding, and playing with the dog. Golden Retriever puppies require tons of attention, especially during the first two years of their lives. If the breeder asks this, they want to know how your children will be participating in the handling of the puppy. They also want to understand how you plan to introduce the puppy to other pets so they can coexist safely within the same home. No matter how nice a breeder may seem, you want to avoid accidentally contributing to backyard breeders or a puppy mill disguised as a reputable breeder. Doing so can cost you thousands of dollars in medical bills and years of potential heartbreak. Here are some of the most critical and obvious warning signs of an untrustworthy breeder. Less experienced breeders will charge on the lower end, and more experienced breeders usually with generations of pure genetic proof! Additionally, some of the best breeders will only sell trained puppies to ensure their pooches are family- and forever-home ready. Therefore, you should receive standard documentation upon adopting your new Golden Retriever puppies, such as care instructions, registration papers, vaccination records, and necessary contracts. The contract may also state that you agree to surrender the puppy instead of adopting him out to a shelter or the pound. Some warranties will say that the breeder should have the right to reclaim the puppy in an unexpected situation like this. If you do ask for references, and they give you a list of written reviews instead of contact information for former clients, this is a red flag. A refusal for a tour means that the breeder knows potential clients may be turned away by the environment. If you are invited to tour a facility, learn about what a professional kennel should look and smell like first. The bottom line is, you need to do plenty of research. It was a relief to see it on my schedule as the last appointment of a busy day. As soon as I entered the room, however, I noticed the grim faces of the clients, and when I saw the little female dog, I knew why. The pup, skinny and pot-bellied, was less than half the size she should have been. She weighed just two pounds; I was shocked to discover that she had been trucked from Kansas to Massachusetts just three days earlier. The couple, who had paid a considerable amount of money for her, did not believe she was from a puppy mill. They had carefully chosen the breeder, they explained, who had been recommended by a friend. The breeder had sent them photos and even videos. But the pup had been purchased online—which to me had become a warning sign that meant: from an online puppy mill, a sinister new frontier in the fight against commercial dog-breeding. Puppy mills are factory farms that mass-produce dogs. Pet stores rely on puppy brokers to act as distributors and source animals from various puppy mills. Now, with pet stores facing criticism for selling these puppies , puppy mills and brokers have shifted online, where they can maximize profits by selling directly to consumers. Yet all too often, the opposite is true. Read More: The U. The puppies that are born at the mills are not blank slates; like children, their personalities are affected by their surroundings. Rescues, shelters, and reputable breeders identify the temperaments of animals and try to match them to prospective families. A lack of socialization is a recipe for anxiety, and many grow up to become anxious dogs. A Golden Retriever puppy I saw who was purchased online was so fearful he had to be carried into the veterinary clinic, where he cowered under the table. Puppy mills also breed without screening for genetic diseases, and neglect to consider health or temperament when choosing breeding stock. They love their chosen breed and are devoted to their dogs, who are properly screened for breed-specific genetic health problems. Breeding dogs are well treated, not overbred, and typically live in the home, not a kennel or cage. Breeders also take an active role in puppy rearing, learning the temperaments of each individual and matching them to families. A great deal of care and attention goes into planning and raising each litter. As a result, the puppies are not mass produced, and these breeders may not have puppies available, might have a waiting list, and, like animal rescues and shelters, often ask prospective buyers an annoying number of questions to ensure their pups will go to a good home. That pup with the markings you fell in love with? She may be shy, and only allowed to go to a home without young children. This can be especially important for breeds prone to chronic medical problems, like French Bulldogs, who often suffer from Brachycephalic Airway Obstruction Syndrome BAOS and may require expensive surgery just to breathe comfortably. Now the most popular breed in the U. Yes, locating a pup from a rescue, shelter, or breeder can take more work, time, and patience than purchasing one from an online puppy store. But it can result in a healthier, happier dog that is a better fit for your family. It can also help end the abuses of puppy mills, support more informed breed choices, and ensure better care for animals. What I could tell them, though, was that they currently had a special-needs puppy on their hands, one who required extra care and who faced an uncertain prognosis. If they chose to return her, she might not survive being shipped back to the breeder, who would likely euthanize her. A sickly puppy is a risk breeders take, but only an industry which puts profits before puppies would sell and ship an animal in such poor condition and pocket thousands of dollars. Puppy mills are taking advantage of both people and animals with misleading websites and false claims. We cannot fall for them. Getting your first dog is a great adventure for any soon-to-be fur-parent. But have you ever wondered where puppies in pet stores come from? Have you considered buying from a breeder you happened upon online? Well, unfortunately, puppy mills are still a prevalent thing in the dog breeding world. And many times they scam first time dog owners into purchasing a sickly dog that may have lifelong health and behavior issues. Here are 9 ways to see if that sweet puppy is from a puppy mill. Puppies Are Unclean or Unhealthy The first sign that your dream puppy is from a mill is how clean it may be. Or as is often the case, unclean. Mill puppies usually have poor hygiene habits. They have spent their entire lives in a cage. And their coats are usually really poor quality. Mills often do not give even this basic care to their products. Make sure you get all paperwork from the owner, proving the puppy has been seen by a vet and given the care it needs. Meeting a seller in a parking lot is always a huge red flag and should be avoided. Mills are notoriously filthy and unhealthy. Letting buyers see their place of business could potentially put them out of business. Or worse, have the authorities knocking on their doors. Chances are this will not happen. Mills rarely offer papered purebreds. Puppies in pet stores are usually from puppy mills. They are usually unhealthy and uncared for. They may be cute to look at but it is not recommended to buy a dog from one of these businesses. Multiple Breeds are Available Puppy mills rarely offer single breeds. Many Litters Can Be Found Like the above sign, finding a place that offers many, many litters of multiple breeds is usually a sign that this place is a mill. If an owner has twenty litters, that could be a mill. They can have behavior issues like aggression and anxiety. These dogs will also be extremely difficult to potty train. Puppies from mills will not like to be touched. If you have children, be careful leaving them with a mill puppy. Puppies are Too Young to Leave Mother The saddest part of puppy mills is that often these puppies are taken from their mothers too young. Keeping in mind what puppy mill puppies look will help you find the right dog for your family. We will help you set up a vaccination schedule for your puppy and find the right food for your dog. You may have read at length about puppy mill breeder dogs or just learned now about this travesty of the dog world. Puppy mill breeder dogs are adult dogs of all breeds who have lived their entire lives often up to seven years or more being repeatedly bred by commercial breeders whose sole motivation is to turn an easy dollar. The resulting puppies are typically sold to pet stores or via disreputable Internet sites to an unsuspecting public while the adults remain in the puppy mill to reproduce again. Adopting a Puppy Mill Survivor These commercial breeders have no interest in making sure the puppies are healthy, well-balanced representatives of the breed and no concern for the physical or emotional health of the parents. They view dogs as crop animals, not as family pets, and typically house them in squalid, appalling conditions. Here, we help prepare and transition Golden Retriever puppy mill survivors for life in an adoptive home. Many of our prospective adopters tell us they had no idea what a puppy mill dog would really be like until they met one in person. We are also happy to talk with you in more depth or answer additional questions at any time. The first thing to understand about puppy mill survivors is that they have lived very different lives compared to most other dogs. They have been kept either in small cages isolated from people and other animals or housed with multiple dogs in cramped areas, forced to stand or lie in their own filth. They have been poorly socialized, meaning that that they have had little to no human contact and have not been exposed to everyday sights and sounds. Any contact they have had with humans is likely to have been negative, so they do not trust humans or know how to form a healthy relationship with them. Some have been handled cruelly or had other traumatic experiences. Amazingly, even with this type of background, puppy mill dogs can and will recover, once rescued and rehabilitated. Their resilience can be awe-inspiring. Understandably, you may well ask if some dogs are too fearful or traumatized to ever lead normal lives. Those that have been most severely neglected or have suffered traumatic experiences may certainly take longer to rehabilitate. That said, living with a puppy mill breeder dog is a life-long commitment and adopters should expect to encounter different challenges along the way. While each dog is of course unique, there are some characteristics that many have in common. Here are some of the key factors an adoptive home should have in order to help a puppy mill dog succeed: a calm, quiet environment with minimal noise and commotion a secure fenced yard with a physical i. If your existing dog is confident, active, and affectionate with your family, it will help teach your puppy mill dog to act this way as well patience and understanding — not expecting more than the dog can handle or getting overly frustrated an openness to set-backs and an ability to use creative techniques to move forward a sense of humor also helps tremendously! Because these dogs are often very fearful, not only of people and their actions but also of startling noises, they have a high tendency to bolt. Should a puppy mill dog escape from your yard or other area, getting them to come back is extraordinarily difficult. They will not come willingly to a person, even if coaxed with food or other items that would tempt a normal dog. A fence also helps puppy mill dogs to feel secure and safe in their surroundings. Since these dogs are typically submissive in nature to humans, they are more sensitive to pain and do not recover quickly from experiences a confident dog could handle. This is why an invisible or electronic fence is not a viable option for a fearful dog. Children should, of course, always be supervised around any dog, but especially around a fearful dog. Lowering of the head, a sideways glance, closed mouth — these are all signs your dog may be uncomfortable. To help minimize stress, a child should allow the dog to approach him, rather than the other way around. When the dog approaches, the child should be quiet, gentle, and calm, and should not lean over the dog. An adult should always be present to protect the dog from becoming overwhelmed. In general, adoptive homes made up of adults or older children are the best scenario for a breeder dog. Friends and family members should take the same approach as children to your fearful dog. The adopter should be present so the dog has someone she knows and is comfortable with around her. Have your friends and family members sit with tasty treats and allow your dog to approach them. Let the dog sniff the newcomers and have them hand the dog a treat before attempting to pet. All visitors should act calm and gentle and not make any sudden or startling movements that may frighten the dog. Should you adopt a puppy mill breeder dog, it will be important that you are able to manage the environment so that visitors and new experiences are kept to a minimum, at least until your dog has progressed to a higher comfort level. This is a question we are asked often, and is certainly an important one for potential adopters to take into consideration. Each dog is different, of course, and while the percentage of puppy mill dogs with housebreaking issues is certainly higher than that of the general dog population, most acclimate very well in this regard after adoption. Some do need a longer time to understand appropriate potty routines due to their background. Remember that most puppy mill breeder dogs have lived in cages or outside pens their entire lives and have had to use their personal area as a bathroom without anyone to clean up after them. Now they must adapt to a new routine, and this can take time and patience. Another dog in the house will certainly help teach the puppy mill dog that going outside is where we potty. Using baby gates while you are not home is a good way to keep the dog out of a carpeted area, while still allowing space to move around. Most dogs, when these techniques are implemented, become housetrained in about a month, according to our adopters. Yes, you can and you should! However, walking on leash can be challenging for many fearful dogs. Walking jointly with a confident dog is a great help, as it gives the puppy mill dog a friend to stick with and follow. Take treats on your walk to reward your dog when she performs well. We highly recommend the use of a front-attaching harness to keep the dog secure. We suggest a patient groomer who has knowledge of fearful dogs and will use slow, gentle techniques — any rough handling will create a negative experience for your dog. The ideal situation would be a mobile groomer or one that will allow you to stay during the appointment to serve as a secure presence for your dog. We have been working extensively with puppy mill breeder dogs for over five years and our staff has developed strong skills in knowing how to start slowly with these dogs, gradually building more confidence and a higher comfort level with people. In , we went a step further and created an innovative program called Project Home Life, which is specifically designed to rehabilitate puppy mill breeder dogs and help them transition from life in a cage to life in a home. Volunteers work with the dogs on various activities according to their individual progress level to help build confidence. The dogs learn to approach people for treats and pets, plus how to respond to different sights and sounds around the house including TVs, doorbells, and furniture. Dogs also learn how to play with interactive dog toys. As a dog progresses, we work on obedience skills, walking on leash, and overcoming obstacles. This booklet helps our adopters continue working on some of the same activities their dog learned in Project Home Life so they can maintain continuity. An online support group is available where you can seek input and suggestions from other DVGRR adopters who have already brought a breeder dog home. We can provide information on finding reputable trainers and our staff is always available via phone or email for information, guidance, and support of any kind. After hearing about the unique challenges and issues involved with puppy mill breeder dogs, you may well be asking yourself if this is a journey you want to take. It is certainly not for everyone and if a fearful dog is not right for you, there are many other dogs that need wonderful homes. However, if you are drawn to the plight of the puppy mill breeder dogs and can respond to the challenges that may arise with adoption, please know that you will be providing a true second chance for a rescued dog. There is great reward and joy in watching a fearful dog wag her tail, bark for the first time, or learn to play with a toy. Yes, the progress takes place in baby steps, but if you have the patience, a positive attitude, and lots of love to share, you may just be what one of these special dogs needs. However, we also know that the training and conditioning we begin in the PHL program must continue after the dog is adopted. Both books provide a detailed look at living with and rehabilitating puppy mill dogs and other shy or fearful dogs and contain invaluable information and advice. This book features tried-and-true techniques to help your dog feel secure.

Thank you Robyn for all you do! Lee W Davenport, Iowa. Building a trustworthy, capable, vigorous, and beastly Olde English Bulldogge is my lifestyle. My breeding program permeates my entire life and gives me purpose. Take a look around my site to see the Evolution Bulldogge difference. This is my story. The giant bulldog in the cartoons had a magnificent head, colossal chest, low, broad, heavy, and muscular body! Immediately Bulldogs became a massive fascination for me. The cartoons with bulldogs were by far my favorite. I would become a very excited kiddo each time a bulldog made a television appearance. This fascination grew into an obsession. Unfortunately, my first introduction to a real bulldog was a disappointment mixed with a strange sense of enthusiasm. My friend Mikey had a female English Bulldog at his house. She was tiny, chunky, super cute, and snorty. He showed me that when he nudged her chest with his shoe, she would grip it and snarl in rough play. Her bully mind was incredible, but her body was lacking. I really thought bulldogs were going to be how television portrayed them to children. There had to be something better. I was fifteen years old when I met Mr. Jack, an over-sized English Bulldog stud. I spent hours playing and wrestling around with him. He was a great bulldog, and he was reasonably similar to my giant cartoon bulldog dream. Unfortunately, he was not quite the icon of health or vigor I had hoped for, but I was completely hooked. I made a clear decision. I would become the greatest bulldog breeder in the world. My parents, however, put my dream as a bulldog breeder on hold. Over the next decade and a half, I spent countless hours and days researching genetics, anatomy, physiology, and biology. I was learning how to breed healthy versions of my beloved cartoon image bulldog. In my studies, I realized the English Bulldog is structurally limited in regards to health. I began looking at other bully breeds in an attempt to find a healthy bulldog that matched my vision. For many years my search came up lacking. By the time I reached this earth, bulldogs had become a gross mutation of their former selves. The bulldog of old- the courageous, capable, athletic, powerful bulldogs had long since become extinct. I become less enamored with the English Bulldog breed and more so interested in my image of what I felt a bulldog should be. But I did not Stop Searching. They were local, and the name in the olde tyme spelling piqued my Bulldog curiosity. I called and made an appointment to see what these Olde English Bulldogges were all about. I rushed right over to see this new promise of a better Bulldog. When I arrived, I saw the most superb Bulldog bitch that I had ever seen in my life! Bulldogs only moved that powerfully and quickly in the cartoons! I knew I was onto something with my brand new introduction to the Olde English Bulldogge. The sales pitch that the Olde English Bulldogge was healthy and capable sold me. Traveling around the country, I visited breeders of this amazing new breed and I bought up puppy after puppy. Dog after dog failed health and temperament tests. It quickly became evident that the Olde English Bulldogge breed also suffers from several of the same health issues which plague the English Bulldog. Compelled by obsession, I started all over, In spite of my losses. The lessons were expensive, in addition to well-received. Nevertheless, I searched tirelessly for Olde Bulldogges that would put me within reach of my ultimate goal of a bigger, better bulldog. Taking some significant losses, I realized getting what I wanted would mean creating it myself. Still obsessed with my dream, I kept searching and searching. With a few tastes here and there of what could be, I eventually stumbled upon a few exceptional dogs. As dogs finally started passing health testing, I could move forward. This small handful of quality dogs would lay the foundation for a solid breeding program. I began linebreeding my productions to make great family companion bulldogs that excel at protection. Evolution Bulldogges was born! Fast Forward a Bit… With multiple generations of tested and proven dogs, my main focus is to advance my Bulldogge breeding program consistently. My secondary focus is to help you get just the right Olde English Bulldogge puppy for you. Occasionally I have other puppies available who are not yet listed. As soon as you meet him, his eyes reach into your heart and steal it away. He just has so much love to give, he's practically bursting at the seams! But little Dakota is different from other dogs. He's hearing impaired and because he can't hear that well, he uses visual signals to understand and learn. He's completely obedience trained and takes visual cues just like hearing dogs take voice commands. Take a look at the video below if you'd like to see just how smart he is when he goes through the paces with his trainer. But when he's not training or sniffing out a new scent, he just wants to snuggle up in your lap. If you're looking for a best bud, Dakota is your guy. Dakota would do best in a low key home where he can get used to a routine. He is timid around some men but with a little time to realize he is safe, he comes around. His foster mom said he's the perfect house guest. He always does his business outside, never chewed anything, is good in the crate and quiet. He has known to be dog selective at the kennel but in the foster's home, he got along great with his foster sister who is a confident, non-reactive dog. They played well together and Dakota was respectful of her, never trying to take her food and waiting for her to get a treat before he did even though he is food motivated. He did well walking on a leash in the neighborhood and is as quiet as a mouse riding in the car. Dakota is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative and microchipped.

You will always have an open communication with Gunter Goldendoodles! We become family! We make sure our families are ready for the puppy transition and have been educated on the challenges of a puppy and how to handle each step of the maturing process. One of our most important goals is to insure our puppies are completely ready for their transition to their forever home by giving them the best start possible. First and foremost we want our families and puppies to be completely happy! Breeding dogs has been a passion for people through many centuries. It is exciting, heart warming and very challenging. The purpose should be to improve the breed not to just increase its numbers. It is a hobby for us and we absolutely love it! Drop us a line, we love to talk about our hobby! Our love of loyal Golden Retrievers, my son's allergies and the frustration of Golden Retriever dog hair everywhere in our home is what led us to breed the Goldendoodles. We have found the Goldendoodle is the perfect dog. We are breeders who love Doodles just behind our love for God, family, our country and friends. The Goldendoodle is considered to be a non-shedding to light shedding dog. Being a wonderful family companion, the Goldendoodle gets along well with children and does well with other dogs and family pets. We are a responsible breeder who believes health, temperament and overall appearance is of the utmost importance. Our dogs are a part of our family, they are lovingly raised and socialized in our homes, not in kennels. We raise them as part of our family with our children and grandchildren. At 3 weeks of age we start the 'Misty Potty Training method'. It teaches the dog that there is a designated spot to potty, making it easier for the new owner to potty train their new puppy. Contrary to some beliefs, potty training a puppy should start with the breeder very early in life. The U. Military in their canine program developed a method that still serves as a guide to what works. In an effort to improve the performance of dogs used for military purposes, a program called "Bio Sensor" was developed. Later, it became known to the public as the "Super Dog" Program. Based on years of research, the military learned that early neurological stimulation exercises could have important and lasting effects. Their studies confirmed that there are specific time periods early in life when neurological stimulation has optimum results. The first period involves a window of time that begins at the third day of life and lasts until the sixteenth day. It is believed that because this interval of time is a period of rapid neurological growth and development, and therefore is of great importance to the individual. Some of the many benefits of ENS include: Improved cardio vascular performance, greater tolerance to stress, stronger heartbeats, stronger adrenal glands and resistance to disease. We also socialize our puppies from the time they are born until the day they leave for their furever home. They are hand raised in a loving home environment. We have worked hard over the years learning the best methods to raise happy and healthy puppies. We are so grateful to see our efforts have been recognized. Some differences for the English Golden Retriever include a shorter and more muscular body, lower energy, lower cancer rate, broader muzzle, shorter coat, and coats are lighter in color ranging from cream to gold. We will produce solids, parti-factor or abstract, as well as Parti English Goldendoodle Puppies! Our Parti English Goldendoodle Puppies will range from red and white, apricot and white, chocolate brown and white, black and white, and sable parti puppies. All Dams and Sires have obtained extensive health clearances prior to being bred. This combination produces an F1 Goldendoodle. These dogs will have a higher success rate for non-shedding. Coats are loose wavy to curly and mostly non-shedding. The F1 Generation sheds light to minimally, while the F1B Generation typically is minimal to non-shedding. Weight: typically 25 lbs. Weight: typically lbs. Medium: Height: over 17 but under 21 inches 43cm to 52cm at wither. Standard: Height: over 21 inches 53cm to 63cm at wither. Weight: typically 51 or more lbs. We do not currently breed mini or petite sizing. The coat of a Goldendoodle can vary from straight, loose wavy or curly. An F1 Goldendoodle will have a loose wavy coat, while an F1B Goldendoodle litter has both curly and loose wavy coats within the litter. Goldendoodles can be black, red, white, apricot, brown, cream, Cafe Au Lait, silver beige, silver or blue, and may be a combination of these colors. Goldendoodles carry the color patterns brindle, sable, ticking, abstract, tuxedo, parti, and phantom. They have an excellent write-up explaining Colors and Coats. This website in general is a great resource to learn all about the Goldendoodle! Daily walks are a must if you don't have a safely enclosed area for them to run freely. They love games and many are attracted to water and love to swim. This breed does wonderfully with all, including children and makes for an overall wonderful companion dog, many with therapy potential! As with any dog, socialization and training should start while the dog is still a puppy and continue throughout its life. Look for a puppy kindergarten class locally or join the AKC S. Puppy Program , training based on positive techniques. You do not have to be an AKC purebred puppy to participate in their S. Puppy Program. Find a class here. This is a great place to start socializing and training. A well-socialized, well-trained Goldendoodle makes a wonderful family companion.
