Click the links above to jump straight to the answers. Or, keep reading to get a glimpse into the daily life of a one month old Labradoodle puppy. They will be playing with their littermates, running around to explore their home, and barking a lot more. During this week, and potentially from the week 3 mark, breeders will be introducing more solid foods to their puppies. And this means that potty training becomes more prominent in daily life. At 4 weeks, Labradoodle puppies still have a lot to learn from their mothers and from each other. But, remember that puppy coats at this stage are still very different to adult Labradoodle coats! Puppies that are 4 weeks old will still have a single layer coat that feels very fine and soft to the touch. This will eventually shed to reveal their adult coat. Other than their soft fur coats, they will have little wagging tails, floppy ears, and dark, loving eyes. And, they still have plenty of important behavioral lessons to learn from the mother and littermates. If they leave their mother at this stage, puppies can develop health issues. But, also, puppies removed from their mom too young go on to display more behavioral problems as adults. Bite inhibition is one of the most important things that a mother dog will teach her puppies, especially at 4 weeks when their teeth are really growing in. All puppies bite when teething, and whilst growing into their teenage selves. But, removing them from their mother early can make this experience a lot worse. So, wait until at least 8 weeks before bringing your Labradoodle puppy home. At 4 weeks, many breeders will be introducing their Labradoodle puppies to solid foods. In fact, some might start even earlier than 4 weeks! Most likely, they will be consuming a mix between solid foods and milk. As, they will still be feeding from their moms. Solid food will mostly come in the form of a puppy-specific, commercial food. But, in rare cases, some breeders may raw feed their puppies and dogs. Puppy food is higher in calories, to support the quick growth period that young puppies are going through. So, expect breeders to feed this rather than adult dog food. The Start of Potty Training Along with solid foods comes the need for potty training. But, instead, many breeders start using puppy pads, or an outdoor play pen, to get their brood used to the idea that their are right places and wrong places to pee. However, this is the time when most puppies receive another worming treatment. Veterinarians will only really be involved if there are any serious health issues with any of the puppies. Puppies that are 4 weeks old should not leave their mother and littermates. If a breeder tries to send you away with a 4 week puppy, walk away. It is a criminal offence to sell underage puppies in many regions, so you could also report them too the local authorities. Reputable breeders will often let you put down a deposit early on — perhaps even before the puppies are born. But, they will not let you take home Labradoodle puppies that are younger than 8 weeks old. Taking a puppy away from its mother and littermates before 4 weeks old can lead to health and behavioral problems. And, if a breeder tries to give you your puppy at 4 weeks old, this is a huge red flag. Paying for a puppy at 4 weeks old is fine, and perfectly normal. But, it can be fun to find out what your future puppy is experiencing before they come home. At four weeks old, your Labradoodle puppy will be looking like a real little dog! This is a big stage for your puppy, and a really fun one to observe if you get the chance! Watch Your Labradoodle Grow. And since Labradoodles are bred in three and sometimes four sizes depending on the breed line and generation, the growth rate for height and weight can vary greatly from one puppy to the next. For example, most mini and medium Labradoodles typically reach their full adult weight by the age of 12 months. Yet some standard Labradoodles may take two to three years to reach their full adult weight. A 3 month old Labradoodle may have already reached 50 to 90 percent of their full adult height. Mini and medium size Labradoodles will be closer to the 90 percent mark while standard Labradoodle puppies will be closer to the 50 percent mark at 3 months old. The Double Up size formula One way to guesstimate how much growing your 3 month old Labradoodle has left to do is to use the double up formula. Then multiply that number by two and add 10 more pounds. Take that number and multiply it by four to get an approximate adult weight. Size formulas for mini and medium Labradoodles If your 3 month old Labradoodle is a mini, take their weight at six weeks and multiply that by four to get their adult weight. And if your puppy is from a medium size breed line, take their weight at 14 weeks and multiply that by 2. Feeding a 3 Month Old Labradoodle Labradoodle puppies typically eat three times each day at least until the age of six months. For standard size Labradoodle puppies in particular, over-feeding can lead to too-fast growth which puts pressure on the bones, joints and ligaments. On the other hand, mini Labradoodles may need as many as four daily feedings until they are able to eat a sufficient amount at each meal to maintain stable blood sugar between meals. If you choose to feed your Labradoodle puppy dry kibble, you can refer to the guidance on the package to map out a daily puppy feeding schedule. This is why your 3 month old Labradoodle puppy needs daily training starting the first day they come home with you. There are the major skills your Labradoodle puppy will need to learn at the three month mark. The first skill is bite inhibition. Your puppy will be losing their baby teeth and growing in their adult teeth. You definitely want your Labradoodle to know what they can chew and what they cannot chew and to learn the command for drop it or leave it. Your second skill is recall. The third skill is part of the ongoing process of socialization. By exposing your Labradoodle puppy to lots of different people, animals and situations, you have a far greater chance of raising a calm, confident, friendly adult dog. Your fourth major skill a Labradoodle needs to begin mastering is leash and walk obedience. You should introduce commands like heel and sit and stay at this point. Grooming a 3 Month Old Labradoodle Your 3 month old Labradoodle puppy is still wearing their puppy coat and will be for some time yet to come. But that also makes this the right time to get your puppy accustomed to basic grooming, including brushing, combing and bathing. Have the groomer give your puppy a basic brush and trim. Use the puppy brush once a day or every other day to get your puppy used to being brushed. This is primarily because of teething. It can be very hard to stay patient with a puppy intent on chewing on anything and everything to relieve their discomfort! So take care to supervise your Labradoodle puppy around young kids including your own and other vulnerable family pets. This short period will pass and you can pass the time instilling appropriate obedience and socialization skills in your little pup. More About Labradoodle Puppies. Puppies Shake It Up are 3 weeks old These little ones are turning into real dogs now. With open eyes and ears they are interacting and vocalizing with each other and us. They have found their feet and their voices this week, so they are motoring around and starting to play. It is a lot of fun. Another big accomplishment this week, starting solid food! They are learning how to lick the goats milk, pablum and pumpkin out of the pan. They have even started managing to eat it first instead of wearing it and eating off of each other. They have discovered toys and the joy of a good crinkle or squeaker. Yellow The second biggest in the litter, she has beautiful phantom markings. Brown Last week he was the loudest, but not this week. He is however, the biggest. Orange One of the louder puppies in the group. Purple One of the black and white partis who also has phantom markings on her eyebrows. Pink A cutie little one, she still gets quite a bit of food on her. Peach The smallest and quietest puppy Dark Blue current weight, grams This little one has sable markings, similar to phantom but goes throughout the whole area not just the tan points. Red current weight, grams A little doll of a pup, his white dipped toes are covered in pablum these days. Grey One of the smaller puppies, also covered in food lately. Light Blue He is a gleaming ebony who is full of adventure and mischief. Quite the charmer. Van Isle Labradoodles.
View fullsize Both our chocolate Labradoodle and our Poodle are beautiful dogs with excellent temperaments. They are our family pets. Because we begin with a Labradoodle and a Poodle, rather than a Lab and a Poodle, our puppies are much more likely to have the non-shedding Poodle coat. A F1b Labradoodle has been back-crossed to a poodle in an effort to insure a non-shedding coat. Even though most f1b Labradoodles shed very little or not all, it is impossible to guarantee that any dog even doodles or purebred poodles will not shed at all. Hypo- means less hypothermia is having a lower than normal body temperature. No dog can be said to be completely non-allergenic. Studies have shown that doodles are less likely to cause allergies, particularly f1b doodles. The ideal is to keep as much of the Lab head shape and super-friendly personality as possible while getting the non-shedding Poodle coat as well as the dignified, less vocal characteristics of the Poodle. Our Labradoodle methodology is quite simple. First, we get quality dogs. This is why we wanted to have pick of the litter for our Labradoodle and our Poodle and why we only obtained puppies from reputable breeders that we knew we could trust. Second, we try to treat our dogs Labradoodle and Poodle well. We feed our Labradoodle and Poodle high quality food with plenty of protein, and give them wonderful socialization and opportunities for exercise. We have 12 acres along the Enoree River with trails, additional property next to a Greenville state park, and property on Lake Hartwell giving us the opportunity to take the dogs kayaking. We recognize the importance of socializing young Labradoodle puppies so they will not be fearful as they mature. Our Labradoodle puppies have lots of opportunities to play with our children, and water games are definitely on top of the list. Labradoodles love the water and so do my kids, as you can see below. Third, we try to find appropriate families for our Chocolate Labradoodle puppies. To learn more about our process, check out this resource that gives a step-by-step guide between the application to receiving your puppy! A Chocolate Labradoodle or mini Labradoodle is not for everyone, and a puppy is not for everyone. If your family is not prepared for a Labradoodle puppy financially, time investment, etc. When can you get your puppy? Because we have only one Labradoodle mother and a couple guardian homes , puppies are available only occasionally. Contact us nathan crockettdoodles. We have a flexible waiting list and offer your deposit back if we do not have the ideal Labradoodle puppy for you within a certain window of time. Sometimes with mini Labradoodles we prefer to wait until they are a little older than 8 weeks because accidents tend to happen more easily with really small puppies. We will take several pictures of you with your Labradoodle puppy. We will send you the pictures for free place them on a USB thumb drive for you , and you will have full copyright privileges to all of the pictures to use at your discretion. You have the option of whether or not the photos appear here on the ChocolateLabradoodlePuppies. Although we never ship puppies, we will sometimes personally deliver puppies for a reasonable fee. Why should you consider getting a Chocolate Labradoodle from us? If a Labradoodle or mini Labradoodle puppy is right for your family, and if you are within driving distance of Greenville, SC, you may want to consider getting a chocolate Labradoodle or mini Labradoodle from us. If you read our Labradoodle puppy methodology and like what you read, you should consider adopting one of our puppies. We have a three-year health guarantee on each of our puppies if the forever home continues to feed TLC one year health guarantee on all others. How can you get a Chocolate Labradoodle or Labradoodle mini from us? If you think your family would be a good match for one of our Labradoodle or mini Labradoodle puppies, then start the conversation by emailing us at nathan crockettdoodles. You will have full access to all pictures and hold the copyright to make as many pictures as you desire. You keep all the pictures. We give your Labradoodle or mini Labradoodle puppy a quality collar. We give your Labradoodle or mini Labradoodle puppy a quality leash. We give you a bag of high quality dog food. We believe that you should give your new Labradoodle puppy or mini Labradoodle puppy the best food. Instructional materials about crate training and house training. Our goal is to do everything we can to assist in the house training and crate training process. A Labradoodle or mini Labradoodle puppy or any puppy cannot be completely reliable in the house until the puppy is about 6 months old. The simple point is that no matter what some breeders tell you you will be partially involved in the house training process unless you buy an older Labradoodle or mini Labradoodle , but we want to help you with that process. A one-year health guarantee; extended to three years for all who continue to feed TLC. We are concerned with finding really good homes for our Labradoodle and mini Labradoodle puppies. Labradoodle Color To see a list of available colors, check out this page. At ChocolateLabradoodlePuppies. Ultimately we cannot completely control the color of puppies. Even though chocolate is the most desirable color, we sometimes have puppies of other colors even occasional merles. These puppies, will of course, also make excellent pets. These non-chocolate Labradoodle puppies are also available to great families, but we know that Chocolate Labradoodles are the most desirable. The Labrador Retriever has a short coat that sheds. By breeding the F1 Labradoodle back to an unrelated Poodle, the chances of getting the highly desirable non-shedding Poodle coat increase exponentially. Some F1B Labradoodles are bred back another time to a Poodle in an effort to guarantee a Poodle coat. If high quality dogs are chosen to breed that have the head shape of a Labrador Retriever it is possible to get a puppy that is very similar in many ways to a Labrador, but has the beautiful non-shedding Poodle coat. Both Labrador Retrievers and Poodles are highly intelligent dogs, helping Labradoodles excel in smarts, train-ability, and a general desire to always please their owner. If you desire a family-friendly, kid loving, medium energy dog that is comfortable inside or outside, that loves the water and the land, you should definitely consider a Labradoodle or mini Labradoodle. For more info about Labradoodle puppies or mini Labradoodle puppies, please email nathan crockettdoodles. Check out our sister site miniLabradoodlePuppies. We specialize in Chocolate Labradoodles and mini Labradoodles, but often we have other colors as well. Occasionally someone travels from Atlanta, Columbia, Raleigh-Durham or Knoxville, but our proximity to North Carolina and the popularity of Labradoodles in North Carolina make Charlotte and Asheville our most serviced locations. We also have some who are interested from distant states, but we primarily serve the Southeast U. We are happy to refund deposits any time for any reason. We will clearly announce the pricing for each mini Labradoodle litter in a litter announcement. Apply Now If you are interested in a miniature Labradoodle puppy please consider filling out the application. Years ago, we'd announce litters to nearly people on an email waiting list. Within the first minute or two, the entire litter would be spoken for, and families who received a doodle puppy felt like they'd won the lottery. Since then, we've developed a thorough application process, seeking the very best mini Labradoodle forever homes. Please do not place a mini Labradoodle deposit unless your doodle application is accepted. We seek to fairly and thoroughly evaluate each miniature Labradoodle application within business days at which point we let you know the answer for your mini Labradoodle application: "yes," "no," or "wait. Your mini Labradoodle application does NOT obligate you to give a deposit or adopt a mini Labradoodle puppy. The mini Labradoodle application is simply your first step to express a level of interest in getting a mini Labradoodle puppy. After giving a deposit, your family would receive mini Labradoodle litter announcements in an effort to match you with the perfect miniature Labradoodle. Each adopting family has the option to pass on as many Labradoodle litters as they want until finding the perfect doodle puppy. Seeking to be the best mini Labradoodle breeders, we refund doodle deposits any time for any reason. It doesn't make sense to us why nearly every other mini Labradoodle breeder requires non-refundable deposits. We have FAR more demand than supply for our mini Labradoodles. Your application helps us determine if your family would make an excellent forever home to one of our precious mini Labradoodle puppies. We have no desire to keep a family's mini Labradoodle deposit if they've located a mini doodle with another breeder or if they've chosen not to get a mini Labradoodle at all. A true chocolate Labradoodle will never have a black nose. Due to the genetic makeup of this dog, it will always have a brown or liver colored nose. Chocolate Labradoodles have one of the two gene makeups: bbEE or bbEe. This means that breeding two chocolate Labradoodles with gene makeup bbEE, the puppies will never be cream. The puppies will always be brown or black shades. If two chocolate Labradoodles have bbEe and are bred, the puppies can be a range of colors including cream, chocolate or black. Due to this reason, serious chocolate Labradoodle breeders will often have mothers and fathers with the bbEE gene makeup. While you can take your chance of purchasing a chocolate Labradoodle from any reputable breeder of these dogs, if you have your heart set on only obtaining a chocolate colored puppy, finding a breeder that specializes in breeding chocolate Labradoodles is your best bet. Due to chocolate Labradoodles being among the most popular coloring, many breeders have dedicated time into a blood line of chocolate doodles. What is a Chocolate Labradoodle? The chocolate Labradoodle refers to the all brown Labrador cross Poodle puppies. Generally if a Labradoodle puppy is chocolate colored at birth, his coat will remain rich chocolate in color or will fade into a brown color once they reach adulthood. While purebred Poodles are the best choice for allergy suffers, many Labradoodles can be the perfect allergy suffers best friend. The only problem is that if the Labradoodle takes after the coat of the Labrador parent, their coat may not be as allergy friendly as one may have liked. The Labrador parent of the Labradoodle can come in a number of colors although Labradors are generally cream, chocolate or brown in color. Understanding Why a Labradoodle Puppy is Chocolate To understand what color puppies an expectant dog mother will give birth to, you need to understand the genetics behind coat colors. Within Poodles, Labradors and then Doodle breeds, two pairs of genes ultimately determine the majority of the puppy coat colors and textures. B stands for the black gene and b stands for the brown gene. If the other gene in the mix is an E than the puppy generally speaking will be black or brown. There are other gene options in the mix that can produce those Labradoodles with silver and grey coloring. When speaking of the black gene, this can also produce a silver or blue coat, the brown gene refers to chocolate, brown and cafe colors and the cream gene can be white through to light red. A dog will only need one dominant gene to express that color for example B or E, while it will need two recessive genes for the coat to be of that color, eg, b and b. Chocolate Labradoodles have a recessive gene. What Genes Create a Chocolate Labradoodle?

Goldendoodle Overview Goldendoodle Overview Goldendoodles are popular crosses between full-bred golden retrievers and poodles. Golden retrievers have a full coat and shed quite a bit, which can aggravate allergies. Poodles have hypoallergenic fur, so the cross between the two breeds produces dogs with the temperament and intelligence of both breeds and a hypoallergenic coat. Goldendoodles need to be groomed regularly even though they have hypoallergenic coats. We make this task easier for you by training your puppy to accept bathing, nail trimming and haircuts. Their gentleness makes them an ideal choice for families with children. Labradoodles have a high drive and need mental and physical stimulation. Larger labradoodles thrive best with a large yard to run in, but they can come in sizes as small as 22 pounds. If you live in an apartment, one of these smaller puppies can easily fit in. They come in many colors and sizes up to 90 pounds. Cockapoo Overview Cockapoo Overview Cockapoos are the smallest puppies we offer. These agile, noble dogs are crosses between cocker spaniels and poodles and offer a variety of color, size and fur textures. Cockapoos like to explore, play and meet other people and dogs. Their intelligence makes them easy to train. The most important benefit of a cockapoo to allergy sufferers is its hypoallergenic fur. We seek to give our puppies the best opportunity for a happy life by delivering them fully house-trained and socialized and with a basic understanding of obedience. Contact with pet dander can cause reactions such as itchy or watery eyes, a runny nose and difficulty breathing. What makes a health-tested hypoallergenic breed ideal for allergy sufferers is that it sheds less than other dogs. Our professional trainers invite your puppy into their homes throughout its training so they can provide consistency and corrections both day and night. We make sure our puppies know not to chew on clothing and furniture, can walk on a leash without pulling you down the street and are house-trained. Learn more This well-established breeder has been operating in Central Illinois since and is now one of the biggest Goldendoodle breeders in the state. They also breed Bernedoodles. All the puppies are well-socialized and undergo extensive health tests, so you know that your puppy will come with all the health clearances you expect. Unfortunately, this breeder has a slightly higher pricing structure than many other breeders, but they do boast plenty of positive testimonials and reviews. The best puppies undergo proper health testing, and both parent dogs have rigorous health checks before they are approved as breeding animals. What Influences Goldendoodle Prices? There are a number of factors that influence the price of Goldendoodle puppies in Illinois, including: The size of the dog, when fully grown Color Generation of the puppy Coat type and likely hypoallergenic qualities The most expensive puppies tend to be those with curly coats that look like Teddy Bears since those types are usually the lightest shedders. That makes these pups extremely popular with allergy sufferers, reflecting their price. Unusual coat colors are also more expensive, especially parti, red, and merle. Regarding health testing, both parent dogs should be screened for common genetic diseases common to both breeds to reduce the chances of the puppies inheriting those problems. Size Is Important Most dog owners want a small dog, so the smaller varieties are therefore the most popular and most expensive. Unfortunately, that trend has pushed up the price of these pups. The possibility of making a quick buck has tempted backyard breeders and puppy mills to churn out multiple Mini Goldendoodles as quickly as they can. Most of the breeding dogs used by these operations are not health-checked, which has adversely affected the breed. Nothing is Guaranteed! So, you could spend a fortune on a curly-coated blue puppy only to end up with a wavy-coated white adult! Of course, every puppy is loveable and will give you just as much pleasure no matter what their color or coat type. The puppies were supposed to be bred from a purebred Poodle father and a purebred Show Cocker spaniel. The lady chose a puppy and took her home. In fact, the puppy was much larger, a totally different color, and far more demanding when it came to exercise and training than the breed she wanted. So, that could be something you want to ask about if your puppy is not an F1 generation dog. But is the advertiser genuine, or is it a backyard breeder or puppy mill? Here are a few telltale red flags to watch out for. Multiple Breeds Most genuine breeders only offer puppies of one breed. Any duplications can be a sign of a puppy mill. Remote Locations Advertisements for puppies should contain a landline telephone number, not just a mobile. Puppy mills are often hidden away in remote locations, so always make sure that the telephone number matches the area where the puppies are being kept. Copy Cats Backyard breeding operations often use the same adverts, cutting and pasting details of their puppies and even using the same text for advertising other breeds. Goldendoodle pups should be eight weeks of age before they can receive their first shots. If the advertisement tells you that the puppies are less than eight weeks of age and have been vaccinated, the seller is most likely a backyard breeder. Other Red Flags Other red flags to be aware of include: Puppies that are very cheaply priced are usually from backyard breeders or puppy mills. These businesses make their money by producing as many puppies as possible, as quickly as possible, with the idea of making the most of whatever the current trend is. Often, puppy mills expect you to meet them somewhere shady, such as at a shopping mall car park or in a gas station. Puppy farms often use photos or even videos of puppies that are not even theirs to sell as a marketing tool on their website. Furthermore, before you can be put on the waiting list, you need to be interviewed and approved by the breeder. That should indicate that your puppy will be free from any hereditary genetic health conditions that typically affect the parent breeds. Ideally, your puppy should come with vaccination paperwork, as well as proof of flea and tick prevention treatment and deworming. Always ask the breeder if you can see the mom and puppies together. You also want to check out the father so that you can assess his temperament. That report includes many puppy mills and backyard breeders that have been closed down or taken through the courts for malpractice. If you decide to try out other ethical breeders from other states and want to avoid falling into the hands of these puppy mills, you may want to pick from our list of Goldendoodle breeders from nearby places. Thank you for raising such wonderful bernedoodles. Thank you so much for our little Stella Mae. We love her so much! From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia A Goldendoodle is a mixed-breed dog, a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. Poodle hybrids have become increasingly popular and it is likely that the combination of Golden Retriever and Poodle has been duplicated by breeders in various countries at different times. History The first Goldendoodles were likely due to accidental breeding between Golden Retrievers and Poodles. The Goldendoodle is usually bred to be a family companion dog. Some are bred and selected for careers in service to humans as Guide Dogs, Therapy Dogs and other types of assistance dogs. Many people select a Goldendoodle because they love Golden Retrievers, but would prefer a dog that sheds less hair. Some have lost their Golden Retriever or Poodle to cancer or inherited disease, and hope that the hybrid cross will give their new pet a better chance of reducing those risks. Others may desire a dog that may not affect their allergies, although not all Goldendoodles will exhibit the low shedding coat type of the Standard Poodle. Cross-breed dogs do not exhibit standard characteristics, and while Goldendoodles may shed less than a Golden Retriever, the degree of shedding will vary from dog to dog. Grooming requirements are as varied as coat types, with the least shedding coat types requiring more regular grooming than the coat types that shed. There have been no studies to date verifying that any canine is completely hypoallergenic. Goldendoodles often are good swimmers, a characteristic of both parent breeds. Like any other cross-breed, the Goldendoodle varies from individual to individual, displaying differences in size, coat type, and color. A Goldendoodle s size is generally somewhere between that of the Poodle and the Golden Retriever parents, and the range includes standard, medium and miniature. Some standard-sized Goldendoodles have weighed over pounds. Upon reaching adulthood, a standard Goldendoodle will often weigh 45 pounds or more; a medium Goldendoodle will weigh between pounds, and a miniature Goldendoodle will weigh approximately 15 to 30 pounds. Goldendoodles have different coat types: wool, fleece, hair or a combination. The wool coat is more like a traditional poodle coat. A fleece coat can be either curly, wavy or straight, with hair more similar to that of a golden retriever. As a general rule, the more curly the Goldendoodle s coat, the less shedding there will be as the dog has more features of the poodle coat. Common colors are white, cream, apricot, gold, and red. Less common colors are black and silver. Rarer colors include brown, parti, and phantom. Goldendoodles are classified as various types depending on the breed of the Goldendoodle s parents. Temperament Similar to the Golden Retriever and the Poodle. Intelligent, affable, trainable, very human oriented, yet friendly toward other dogs. Moderately high energy dogs, much like their parent breeds. The Goldendoodle is not a purebred; rather, it is a specific type of mixed-breed dog or crossbreed. Some breeders prefer to restrict breeding to first generation F1 dogs i. Other breeders maintain that a Backcross F1B Goldendoodle i. Still other breeders are attempting to take this one step further and develop the Goldendoodle as a breed via selective breeding. Goldendoodle via dreamcoatdoodles How To Find A Reputable Goldendoodle Breeder Selecting a breeder is a major decision that everyone who wants to bring a Goldendoodle into their home has to face. You want to choose one carefully as their breeding practices will have an impact on the temperament and health of your Goldendoodle puppy. Start by looking at online sources such as Google reviews, online forums, discussion groups and social media platforms to see what other people are saying about the breeder. Did they have a good experience buying from them? To take your research a bit further, you can ask Goldendoodle organizations and clubs based in your area about their opinion of the breeder you are considering to purchase from. Many Goldendoodle clubs also have their own lists of responsible breeders so they can give you additional recommendations for good Goldendoodle breeders. You may also consider visiting some dog shows and events as they are a good opportunity to meet breeders in person and see their Goldendoodles. You can also ask other dog owners that are showing their Goldendoodles for breeder recommendations. Finally, ask potential breeders for references and consider contacting these people to ask about their experience with the breeder. Reputable breeders always prioritize the well-being of their dogs and strive for positive reviews. You should inquire about temperament and health of the Goldendoodle these people purchased. Use this information to make an informed decision. All reputable Goldendoodle breeders conduct them on their breeding dogs — whether they are breeding from purebred Golden Retrievers for F1 Goldendoodles and Poodles or from Goldendoodles for later generations like F2 Goldendoodles. A stipulates the health testing requirements for Goldendoodles and if the breeder is registered with G. A, you know that the breeding dogs have undergone full health testing. A heart clearance O. Ask to see documentation of these clearances before purchasing from a Goldendoodle breeder. All responsible breeders should be willing to provide any health documentation. They should also be happy to answer any questions you have about their breeding program. However, if you have the opportunity to check out the facilities you should do it. Check that the kennels are clean, that they dogs and puppies have access to fresh water and also that there is not a build up of feces or urine. Comfortable living conditions: The breeder should keep their Goldendoodles, Golden Retrievers and Poodles in comfortable living conditions. They should have large, comfortable kennels or dog beds and also have a decent amount of space to exercise and socialize with other dogs. Healthy breeding dogs and puppies: If you get the opportunity to meet the parents of the Goldendoodle litter you are interested in, make sure they are well-tempered and also healthy. Sometimes the mother will be quite protective of her puppies so she may show signs of aggression. If you are purchasing a puppy online and getting it delivered, ask if the breeder would be happy to video call you or send videos of their Goldendoodle puppies and breeding dogs to you. Ask About Socialization Goldendoodle breeders should begin the socialization process before their puppies are sold. The puppies should be exposed to a wide variety of sounds, experiences, people and places so they can adjust to their new homes and adult life. Nevertheless, they should start exposing them to sounds like household appliances, provide mental stimulation with toys and games and also encourage playtime and interactions with their littermates and family. The most common ones are: Lack of registration: If a Goldendoodle breeder cannot provide registration papers or other relevant documentation, it may be a sign that they are not operating a reputable breeding program. Overbreeding: Think twice about purchasing from a Goldendoodle breeder who always has puppies available or offers an excessive amount of dog breeds. This may suggest that the breeder is overly focused on profit instead of the health and wellbeing of their puppies. Lack of health checks: A reputable Goldendoodle breeder will conduct health clearances on their breeding dogs to ensure they are free of genetic health issues that could be passed on. If a breeder cannot provide documentation of these health checks, it may be a sign that they are not prioritizing health. Further Reading.

Golden Retrievers are a great choice for first time owners because they are so biddable and easy going by nature which makes them easy to train. What about playfulness? Golden Retrievers remain very puppy-like well into their senior years and thoroughly enjoy playing interactive games. Being so intelligent, they learn new tricks extremely quickly which is why they are so good at many canine sports including agility which is an activity they are known to excel at and which they thoroughly enjoy. Contact Welcome Located in New Hampshire, we are a small family-owned kennel and have been breeding Labrador Retrievers for over 20 years. Our kids are now grown and gone and we have migrated back north to scenic Warner, New Hampshire to build our forever spot here for ourselves and the dogs. We raise sound English-style Labrador Retrievers. Before we consider a dog as breeding or stud quality, they are judged for temperament and conformation and must pass OFA hip and elbow clearances and eye clearances. Our Labradors are part of our family; we raise our puppies in our custom whelping room that is sanitary and climate-controlled. The room has gentle music playing and a bit of traffic every once in a while to show off the new additions when it is safe for visiting. We do our best to place our puppies in a home that best suits each puppy by conducting temperament screening and aptitude tests. We spend an enormous amount of time with these puppies and have had great success in evaluating the "right fit" of puppy to family. Goals My goal as a breeder is to produce a sound quality Labrador Retriever as close to the AKC standard to my liking. Every breeder has a preference to coat, size, movement, attitude, face and tail. The most important thing to remember in breeding is to keep in mind the purpose of the dog and ensure that they are physically able to get the job done for which they were bred. Our Boys. The result is a mild, friendly, family dog that looks like a teddy bear come to life. Their energy level matches the Poodle genes while their gentleness and willingness to please is reflective of the Golden Retriever. They are devoted friends who crave cuddles and will follow you around just to be near you. They are smart dogs with a silly streak. They are loving and loyal and gentle enough to make good playmates for kids. Their intelligence makes them easy to train. This breed has a happy disposition and a friendly, affectionate nature. They are eager, excitable, and enthusiastic about outings of all kinds. Their heads are rounded and their ears are floppy and wide-set. Their eyes are large and expressive and noses are typically black. Their muzzles are short to medium with a scissor bite. They have long and fluffy or feathered tails. Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. Although this breed is very popular, it is not currently recognized by the American Kennel Club. As long as they are well-socialized, Miniature Goldendoodles tend to make excellent family companions. They tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. Although they will alert you of strangers at the door, they tend to warm up quickly as they are more interested in making friends and receiving attention. Mini Goldendoodles are highly adaptable dogs. Their smaller size makes them a great fit for apartment living or for bigger homes with yards where they can run. As long as they get enough daily exercise, mental stimulation, and attention, they can adapt well. These little dogs tend to do well in just about any climate. However, like any dog, they are sensitive to heat. Due to their smaller size, you may need to gear up with some dog-friendly winter gear when temperatures start falling. Because this dog breed is loyal and people-oriented, they love to be in your company and do not like being left alone for long periods of time. This means they can be prone to developing separation anxiety if you do not work with them on it early on. Instead, make sure your new Mini Goldendoodle puppy has an active role in your life. If you do need to leave them alone for a bit, make sure they have some comforting toys or challenging puzzles to keep them from getting bored. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. Make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests and clearances that have been done. The Mini Goldendoodles is a highly intelligent dog that picks up on things quickly and is eager to please. They tend to be sensitive to tone of voice as well. As long as training is consistent and focused on positive praise and reward, a Mini Goldendoodle will strive to be obedient and impress you and tends to excel at almost any task. These traits make the Mini Goldendoodle one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners and a good fit for owners of all experience levels. Daily brushing is recommended to remove tangles and prevent mats. Bathing is occasional and can often be relegated to the dog groomer that is recommended you visit every weeks. The groomer can help handle some of this during visits, but you will still need to do some maintenance at home between visits. Nail trims once or twice monthly keep nails from growing too long. Weekly ear checks with careful cleanings as needed help prevent ear infections. Daily brushing, plus cleanings at the vet as needed, is good dental care for dogs and can help prevent painful dental diseases later in life. Although the parents of this breed have a lot of energy, a Mini Goldendoodle tends to sit in a more moderate activity range. Daily walks plus some playtime and time to run are usually enough for them. But, they are also likely to match their energy level to yours, so be prepared for some bursts of energy as well as plenty of cuddling on the couch. Nevertheless, they should start exposing them to sounds like household appliances, provide mental stimulation with toys and games and also encourage playtime and interactions with their littermates and family. The most common ones are: Lack of registration: If a Mini Goldendoodle breeder cannot provide registration papers or other relevant documentation, it may be a sign that they are not operating a reputable breeding program. Overbreeding: Think twice about purchasing from a Mini Goldendoodle breeder who always has puppies available or offers an excessive amount of dog breeds. This may suggest that the breeder is overly focused on profit instead of the health and wellbeing of their puppies. Lack of health checks: A reputable Mini Goldendoodle breeder will conduct health clearances on their breeding dogs to ensure they are free of genetic health issues that could be passed on. If a breeder cannot provide documentation of these health checks, it may be a sign that they are not prioritizing health. Further Reading.
This mixed breed features the same ridge along their spines that the Rhodesian Ridgeback is known for. Moreover, they take on the cleverness and athleticism of their German Shepherd lineage. They are ideal companions for active families and individuals, especially those who like hiking. Although they are highly loving and affectionate, the Ridgeback Shepherd mix can be challenging for inexperienced owners, especially if this is their first dog. However, by understanding the histories of each of their parent breeds, we may still learn a lot about this designer breed. The German Shepherd Dog GSD is a multipurpose canine breed that can be trained to do a wide range of jobs, including herding, protecting, and tracking. This dog was created in Germany in the late s for the purpose of herding sheep and keeping predators away. According to pet fanciers, GSDs were also used as parent dogs to develop bear-hunting breeds. They were well-known throughout the world during World War I and regarded as one of the fiercest and most hard-working canines. Meanwhile, the powerful Rhodesian Ridgeback was developed in Africa. Because they were trained to hunt large wildlife, such as lions, Rhodesian Ridgebacks have a high prey drive. Today, the Rhodesian Shepherd mix is renowned for its devotion, intelligence, and compatibility with kids and other animals. The ridge of hair that runs up along the back of this dog is what makes it most recognizable. A genetic abnormality that enables hair follicles to grow in various directions is the cause of this peculiar ridge of fur. Additionally, the Ridgeback Shepherd mix is distinguished by its light or red wheaten-colored, short, glossy coats. But because of its German Shepherd genes, it may also sport a sable, liver, or even a black coat. In rare cases, there can also be Ridgeback Shepherd mixes with blue , panda , or even isabella coat colors. They also have a tail that is typically docked as well as long, floppy ears. Their head resembles a wedge shape, similar to that of the GSD. Their eyes are either dark or amber, while their nose is black or brown. Take note, however, that the appearance of Ridgeback Shepherds may vary from dog to dog. Currently, there are no breed standards for this hybrid dog; hence, their appearance will entirely depend on how genetics play out. Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd Mix Size and Weight Each parent breed is enormous on its own; therefore, when the two are crossed, the result is a reasonably large dog. Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd mixes typically weigh around 64 to 95 pounds and stand between 24 and 27 inches tall. However, their final size can still be affected by several factors, such as gender and nutrition. In any case, you should still expect a huge dog. That said, it would be preferable if you have a large place for them to roam around if you are planning to add this mixed breed to your home. The German Shepherd Ridgeback mix makes a great companion dog since it is affectionate and loving with family members while being timid with strangers. Due to their high trainability, Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd mixes are excellent candidates for agility training as well as obedience lessons. This breed gets along nicely with other dogs and pets when properly socialized. This range is slightly longer than the lifespan of the German Shepherd and about the same as the Rhodesian Ridgeback. Despite their relatively long life, the Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd mix does not have perfect health. In fact, like its parent breeds, it is also prone to some health conditions. The following are the health conditions common that may affect German Shepherd Rhodesian Ridgeback mixes: Hip Dysplasia: The Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd mix breed, like the majority of large breeds, is typically vulnerable to hip dysplasia. This means that their femur and pelvis grow at different rates, resulting in a hip joint that is too small to fully encase the femur head. Elbow Dysplasia: Elbow dysplasia is characterized by a number of abnormalities in growth. The cartilage and surrounding structures around the elbow joint, in particular, formed abnormally for dogs with this condition. Eventually, this causes the elbow joint to develop degenerative arthritis, which results in discomfort and a loss of function. Degenerative Myelopathy: The Rhodesian Shepherd mix is susceptible to degenerative myelopathy , a hereditary neurological condition that usually affects dogs eight years of age or older. Dogs with this condition experience gradual muscular weakness and loss of coordination due to spinal cord damage. Aside from these, watch out for any indications of irritation or infection in certain body areas. Rhodesian Shepherds can also be prone to skin, ear, and eye infections. Lastly, check to see if the parent dogs have had the necessary genetic testing before buying a puppy from a breeder. These tests are used to detect heritable health issues in dogs. Below are some guidelines for taking care of a Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd mix. As a result, it needs 3 to 4 cups of dog food to maintain their energy levels throughout the day. You can give your dog specialized treats or vitamins to ensure that they get all the vitamins and supplements they require. In this manner, planning walks and bathroom breaks before and after meals will be simple. You can reduce their risk of bloat and keep them occupied by using lick mats or slow feeders to feed them. To maintain a healthy coat and skin, they will require occasional baths and weekly brushing. For those that inherited the standard short hair of their GSD parent, more frequent brushing is required. These dogs will also shed heavily twice a year, demanding daily brushing and frequent bathing. In addition, their teeth should be brushed frequently to prevent periodontal disease. Their nails should also be checked each month and clipped if necessary to avoid any nail from getting separated from the quick. Training and Exercise Training a Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd mix should be done as early as puppyhood. Due to their intelligence and physical build, this hybrid can be trained for dog sports, such as agility. To integrate well in the household, owners also need to focus on obedience training and socialization. By using positive reinforcement methods, their Ridgeback Shepherd will grow up to be a well-rounded pup. Meanwhile, In order to maintain their physical condition, they should take a daily walk. They will also enjoy running, hiking, and playing fetch with their owners. Watch the video below to see how the Rhodesian Shepherd mix can be easily trained: Liberty 5. The following are the initial costs you should take into account when owning a German Shepherd Rhodesian Ridgeback mix: Type of Expense. This alone can make them more expensive, as well as being crossed with a rare purebred dog. Some Rhodesian Shepherds inherit the Ridgeback. Although not all Rhodesian Shepherds will, some are lucky enough to inherit the classic Ridgeback strip. Rhodesian Ridgebacks have a strip of fur along their spine that goes in the opposite direction of their coat, which is not only a breed standard but a requirement for purebreds. Rhodesian Shepherds can weigh over 75 pounds. Rhodesian Shepherds are big dogs, with the average dog weighing around pounds. This makes them not suitable for most apartments and city living, especially with their exercise needs. Rhodesian Shepherds are hard workers. Just like their purebred counterparts, Rhodesian Shepherds are natural working dogs that need some purpose. This can be a real challenge for inexperienced dog handlers, so this mix is definitely not for everyone. However, as long as their exercise needs are met, Rhodesian Shepherds will repay you with affection and loyalty. The next best way is to study the temperaments of German Shepherds and Rhodesian Ridgebacks. German Shepherds are one of the most sought-after working dog breeds, having been around for centuries. Originally developed for herding, German Shepherds are extremely versatile dogs due to their high intelligence levels. They also require hours- no exaggeration-of exercise to keep them calm and well-mannered. Rhodesian Ridgebacks are, by contrast, calmer and more laid-back than German Shepherds, though they still have the instincts of a hunting dog. Originally bred for hunting and homestead protection, Rhodesian Ridgebacks can seem quite intimidating. Often reserved and even aloof with strangers, these large hunting dogs need to be socialized early to establish proper social etiquette. Except for their early years as puppies and young adults, Rhodesian Ridgebacks tend to be calm and quiet indoors. Are These Dogs Good for Families? Generally, Rhodesian Shepherds are great for active families, especially families that are outside daily. Families with children that enjoy playing and spending time with their dog are the ideal situation for Rhodesian Shepherds. As for cats and small animals, it depends on each individual dog. Some Rhodesian Shepherds have little to no prey drive, whereas others will chase your house cat into hiding on an hourly basis. Photo from: graceprotze Any mixed dog that has two purebred parents is called a hybrid dog or a designer dog. This is the case with the Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd mix as well. They were purposefully bred by breeders to get a dog that will have traits of both parent dogs — loyalty, affection, a working dog, and a good guard dog. They only accept purebred dogs, which means you can register their parents. You will realize you have an amazing, high-energy designer dog breed just as beautiful and amazing as any purebred dog. But, if you want to know if this dog is suitable for first-time dog owners, the answer is — no, not really. You have to have the experience to know how to handle a dog of this size, strength, and strong prey drive. Dogs that are very different in size can cause a lot of problems during the birthing process. This is, of course, the case when the female is smaller than the male. The size of the puppies can cause a lot of problems for the female, and it can cause various complications during and after the birthing process. Both parent breeds are of similar weight and height. Rhodesian Ridgeback This is a unique breed of dog for a very interesting reason. They have a ridge of hair that grows in the opposite direction from the other hair. This ridge is on the back; hence, the name, Ridgeback. The name, Rhodesian, comes from an old name for Zimbabwe — a country in Africa where these dogs originated from. Rhodesians are athletic dogs that can weigh more than 80 pounds , and grow up to 27 inches tall. This is a large breed that was used for hunting lions. But, they were never actually used to kill lions — just chase them and help people during the hunt. As you can see, this dog needs to have an active lifestyle. Rhodesian Ridgebacks can come in all kinds of shades of wheaten coat color. They can also have either a black- or a brown-colored nose. Today, of course, people do not use these lovely dogs as lion hunters. They are amazing family dogs — affectionate, and good with other dogs and pets. Although Rhodesians can live anywhere, it would be perfect to have a large yard in order for this dog to truly shine. They have proved themselves to be amazing police dogs, guards, protective dogs, and amazing family pets. Once bred as herding dogs, today, they are mostly used as watchdogs and guards. Of course, this large dog is also an amazing family pet that goes great with children and all other family members. They can weigh around 90 pounds , and grow up to 26 inches tall. And, they also have unique looks. Everyone knows what a GSD looks like. They have a bushy, low-set tail, a long muzzle, and pointy ears. But, maybe the most distinguishable trait is their coat color. Apart from the most popular black and tan GSD, there are other coat colors — liver GSD, silver, sable, white, and even an albino. These dogs also need plenty of exercise to satisfy their high energy levels. It is a great family dog, but just like the Rhodesian Ridgeback, it would be ideal to have a yard for this big dog. What Do They Look Like? Photo from: graceprotze We saw the main traits of both dog parents, from weight to coat colors, and we know the looks of both parent dog breeds, but what about the Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd mix? What will their looks be like? Are they going to have the ridge or will they completely have the German Shepherd coat type? Well, these and other questions regarding physical traits are harder to predict. We already mentioned that, and the reason is because of the great difference in the looks of the parent breeds. From the head to the general body type, here is what you can expect from your Rhodesian Shepherd puppies. This means they will be large dogs that can weigh from 80 to 95 pounds, and they can grow up to 27 inches tall. Of course, some puppies can grow to be much smaller or larger than the average size, but this is a common thing with all dogs, not just crossbred dogs. Genes play a vital role, but external factors, such as diet and activity play a certain role as well. Bottom line… we can say with certainty that you will have a big dog that will need a lot of kibbles to keep its stomach full, and it will need a lot of space to stretch its legs. Head The Rhodesian Ridgeback has the looks of a true hunting dog — it has floppy ears and a medium-length muzzle, with a broad and flat skull between its ears. On the other hand, a German Shepherd has a narrower and longer head, with a long muzzle and pointy ears. The Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd mix will have a head that is most of the time an equal blend of both head types. Some puppies can inherit the broader skull of the Rhodesians while others can inherit the typical GSD skull. Then again, there is a difference between a male and female GSD s head shape, where a male has a distinguishably masculine skull. Some can also inherit pointy ears, and others… floppy ears. Because both parent dogs have brown to dark brown eyes, their mixed-breed offspring will also have dark-colored eyes. All of this means that it is impossible to know exactly what Rhodesian Shepherd puppies will look like. Coat Type This is yet another physical trait that can go in different ways. But, this time, there are fewer possibilities — a new puppy can either have: A double coat type A single coat type The single coat type comes from the Ridgeback side, and the double coat type from the GSD. The new pup can also have: A short coat A medium-length coat The medium-length coat comes from the GSD side, but there are long-haired GSDs , so there is a possibility for a long-haired Rhodesian GSD, too, although it has to be said that this happens very rarely. Grooming Even though the German Shepherd side can give the mixed dog a double coat of medium length, grooming is not a problem. Both types of coat require weekly grooming with a regular brush. But, GSDs do shed as well as Rhodesians, especially during the shedding seasons, which are in fall and spring. It simply means that you will have to spend more time doing it to get rid of the hair and remove the tangles. Coat Color The color depends on the color of the two dogs used for crossbreeding. They will be a dark shade of brown or dark red. Because there are many coat colors of the GSD, we can only tell you what some of the possibilities are for the Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd mix coat colors: Brown. Rhodesian Shepherds may not be hypoallergenic The parents of this breed have different coats. This makes it difficult for one to predict if the mix will shed heavily or not. Because of this uncertainty, it may not be suitable for allergic sufferers. They are not a good first-time dog Though the mix is intelligent and learns easily, it can be a handful like its parents. With an independent streak and a tendency towards dominant behavior, it may sometimes be unwilling to obey. The owner should not be inexperienced or timid, but firm and knowledgeable. Exercise and work are needed for both parents and the offspring, a situation that may tire out an introvert. They make good guard dogs and watchdogs The qualities it inherits from both parents make it an asset in security. It plays the role of both a guard dog and a watchdog. It is not aggressive unless badly trained but will protect its family when needed. Watch out for separation anxiety Many owners make the mistake of assuming this mix would love being alone because of its independent spirit. However, just like its parents, it is used to company. Being alone can trigger separation anxiety which leads to destructive behaviors. Because there are no Kennel standards or similarities in the looks of the parents, the puppies will grow to exhibit different physical characteristics. Genetics plays a major role here. Some of these dogs may look more like the German Shepherd, others will favor the Rhodesian Ridgeback. Some may combine both features to create an unusual look. Therefore, you may find some with the erect ears of the German Shepherd or the floppy ones of the Rhodesian Ridgeback. Most get the ridge on their backs, but the face usually is that of the German Shepherd. Size The Rhodesian Shepherd mix is a medium to large dog breed like its parents. It weighs between 64 to 95 pounds and grows up to 27 inches. It could either be short and shiny like the Rhodesian Ridgeback or a medium, dense double coat like the German Shepherd. Coat colors include gray, black, liver, and gold. There could be some differences in the behaviors of every individual. Also, factors like good training and the right environment influences personality. That being said, there are some traits you can expect from any member of this mixed breed. The first common trait is loyalty. This hybrid looks out for its family and is devoted to them. Loyalty is one attribute that makes it a good guard dog and watchdog, and it would defend its family to the last. Not surprisingly, it is also protective. Another good guard dog quality is its wariness towards strangers. Like its parents, the mix is friendly only towards members of its family or those it knows well. With strangers, it is aloof. Socialization stops it from developing aggression towards strangers, but wariness is essential for its guard duty. It is courageous as well, a trait gotten from both parents. The Ridgeback hunted lions and the German Shepherd protected flocks against wolves. You can count on this Rhodesian Shepherd to face danger without hesitation. As highly intelligent as its parents, expect this mix to understand and respond to commands with ease. You have to be patient while training this breed. The Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd mix is a loyal and gentle companion, friendly with its family and loving with those it knows. This mix can defend its family with its life and stay faithful throughout its life. It is also good with kids, especially when socialized early. However, its large size makes it unsuitable for toddlers, so it is more ideal to have them in a house with older kids who can respect a dog. To get this hybrid to get along well with other dogs and pets, it should be socialized from an early age. An adult with no prior experience in living with other animals may not fit in well. The male unneutered dog could also be aggressive towards other males. With smaller pets, its high prey drive could get in the way. This is why socialization is vital if you want a home with multiple dogs and pets. Because of its novelty and rareness, it is hard to determine the average cost of this breed, or where to find it. For the price, the cost of shopping the parents could give you an idea of what to budget. Cost varies, though, as the breeder could charge more or lesser than our estimate. Regardless of the cost, the breeder should be reputable. Ensure you get a pup with no underlying medical conditions or undesirable behaviors. Some breeders may offer advice and ask questions of their own. Do not buy a puppy based on a guarantee alone. Another option is adoption, though with this breed it could be harder than shopping. That said, you might stumble on a Rhodesian Shepherd in a rescue shelter specializing in German Shepherds or Rhodesian Ridgebacks. Adoption is cheaper and more canvassed for, but you also should ask questions. Some abandoned dogs suffer trauma from abuse or a medical condition that made the previous owner abandon it. As such, it requires a rich kibble fit for its size. While some dogs can manage a poor diet, this hybrid would have health problems if fed a subpar meal. Keep it hydrated too by providing enough water. Supplements like fish oil are also good for its system. Glucosamine and chondroitin are some other supplements that would help strengthen its bones. Like its parents, it can get overweight. So you should regularise its meal and stop it from free feeding. Human food and treats should be minimal as those can make a dog gain weight. You could keep it on a raw meal or give it a blend of dry and wet dog food. Dry food is usually preferred as the main meal, then wet food adds variety. Consult a veterinarian or nutritionist to know what to feed your pup. Another rule of thumb is to know the factors that influence feeding. Like other dog breeds, do not feed a Rhodesian Shepherd puppy with the same meal or ratio that you would an adult. The same applies to seniors. That is the age factor. Size is another, and you should also determine the energy level of your mix while establishing its diet. A bored and restless Rhodesian Shepherd is a recipe for destruction. It loves the outdoors and should be taken outside numerous times a day. This is a win for you if your hobbies involve stepping out of the house, not board games and binge-watching series. It is advisable to keep your mixed dog on a leash, at least till it is well trained to obey a recall command. Its high prey drive may push it to dive after a smaller animal. It needs at least 30 minutes of exercise daily. Sometimes it could get to an hour or more, depending on your dog. Some activities fit for the Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd mix include walking, running, hiking, swimming, playtime at a dog park, or games like fetch. These borders on the physical. Age and size also determine how much exercise this crossbreed needs. It is advisable to start small with a puppy and stick to light activities. As for size, an obese dog would need a different exercise requirement than its slimmer counterpart. For this Rhodesian Shepherd, training is both easy and frustrating. It is easy because of its intelligence, but frustrating due to its stubbornness. The best way to start training is when your pooch is still a puppy—if you adopted it as an adult, you would have a different set of challenges. Ensure your pup knows its place in the human-dog relationship and acknowledges you as the leader. Only then would you make headway with this stubborn breed. As usual, obedience training and socialization are a must. Let your pet learn simple commands and respond to them. It should also get to meet new people and visit foreign places. For this breed, training has to be consistent, not random. This mixed breed is sensitive to harsh words, yelling, and punitive methods—so you must keep your cool and be patient while training. Use treats, praises, pats on the back, and other forms of motivation to encourage it. Also Read:. It seems easy to fall in love. These dogs have long hair that covers most of their body, but it also has a thick coat on top and short fur around its face which gives an interesting variety in appearance. A lot goes on during puppyhood — most specifically in terms of how big your dog gets. If this sounds like something up your dog then make sure to be more familiar with the adoption of this breed. The average lifespan for this animal ranges from 14 years old, which makes them one of the longest-living breeds on earth. A lot of people feel intimidated when they first meet a large, powerful dog. They are often dogs who do not know their own power and need some time to get used to; just remember this about them: they can also surprise you with how well-behaved these big breeds really are. Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd Mix can come in all sorts of different shades, like Fawns or sables with black spots on them to mix it up even more. They have easygoing personalities and are generally affectionate and sweet-natured. They usually take a lot of time to warm up to a new person and require training before they are ready to handle a household. The Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd Mix is a tough breed and can be hard on themselves and others. They need a strong-willed owner. In training a Ridgeback, you must start early. They can be extremely stubborn and may resist a lot of your training. Ridgebacks are excellent guard dogs. They are extremely loyal, have little tolerance for chaos and noise, and enjoy a secure environment. In this situation, the joints can be damaged and also can become the reason for pain in the body. These are some of the diseases that this breed bears, and there are also genetic health issues that would influence their health, so it is advisable to check the dog before taking it. Deaf and bare feet are sometimes visible in this breed. Dermoid sinuses can be treated surgically and commonly are not lethal. Although, until now none of no specific treatment has been discovered for the deaf you can avoid the underlying hygiene problems which could be the reason for this. With age, they will not usually have as many complications as young dogs. It is therefore vital that you get them regularly. So the training requires dedicated work and diligence. Be sure that you must be strong when the dog knows what you want to know. The best thing about your young Rhodesian Ridgeback becomes social training from a child and how other dogs and people are engaged. Social education has trained education and tree training and improvements are all areas of the usual household requirements. As a very dynamic and muscular dog, the German Shepherd Rhodesian Ridgeback will be useful for 30 to 90 regular minutes of everyday workout. You can also add other outdoor activities such as long walks, mountain hiking, and running in a large yard. Raw foods with twisted bones, firm flesh, and a fine quantity of ingredients are the best for this type. In case, if raw food is expensive and difficult to maintain a diet, look for fine standard dog food that will fulfill its nutritional needs. As this breed has been one of the athletic breeds, it will demand more than the normal quantity of water intake on a regular basis. The combination of food varieties such as dry and wet food could be a good choice to be included in the diet chart. Whether he is training for competitions or just enjoying a walk around the neighborhood, he will enjoy the experience. However, you should always be careful not to neglect your dog. Make sure that he or she has proper space and training so that you and your dog can share a happy life together. This breed is an incredibly satisfying dog and one that will make sure to keep you active- be sure that you are completely set to be a good keeper of this breed. Post navigation. Males are expected to be about .Females are slightly smaller at approximately 24 inches and about 60 pounds. The appearance will depend on which parent it takes after. From the Ridgeback parent, they could take various shades of wheaten although the lighter varieties are less common. On the other hand, German Shepherds come in a wide variety of coat colors. GSDs also come in rare colors like blue , blonde , and panda. Grooming Rhodesian Ridgeback — German Shepherd mixes that takes their coat after the Ridgeback parent will be fairly easy to groom. They will need occasional baths and weekly brushing to keep their coat and skin healthy. On the other hand, offspring that take after the GSD parent will require brushing several times a week. They will also shed profusely twice a year. During those times, they will require daily brushing and more frequent baths. Their teeth should be brushed frequently to avoid periodontal diseases. Strength The GSD-Rhodesian Ridgeback cross does not only have a strong, solidly built body but also a powerful bite, which it inherits from both parents. Speed German Shepherds run fast and, in fact, can reach speeds of up to 30 miles per hour. Rhodesian Ridgebacks are slower at 25 miles per hour. Nevertheless, Rhodesian Ridgeback — German Shepherd mixes are expected to run fast, show incredible agility, and have remarkable stamina. For working dogs, these traits can be very useful. For household companions, however, this needs to be addressed through exercise. They love to run, play with their humans, and go on long walks. The more opportunities they have to burn off their excess energy, the happier and healthier they will be. Apart from physical exercise, these dogs need mental stimulation. They enjoy puzzle games as well as regular training sessions. Additionally, they do well in canine sports like flyball , rally, and agility. They typically need fewer than 5 exposures to learn something new. On the other hand, Rhodesian Ridgebacks do not place very highly in the dog intelligence ranking. Nevertheless, their willingness to learn new things and eagerness to please their humans make training them enjoyable and fulfilling. Temperament The Rhodesian Ridgeback — German Shepherd cross is a protective dog that is ever vigilant of potential threats. They are wary of unfamiliar people but may welcome their presence once they are accepted by the rest of the family. Despite their protective nature, these mutts are very affectionate. Early socialization and proper handling also make them excellent companions for the entire family , including young kids and other animals. Health Like other large breeds, the GSD — Rhodesian Ridgeback mix can be prone to bone and joint issues like hip and elbow dysplasia. The best way to avoid this is to screen both parents before mating. Other than that, you should avoid jumping and running on uneven surfaces while their bones are still developing. Other health issues this cross can inherit are poor thyroid function from the Ridgeback and bloat from the GSD. Ridgebacks typically live between 10 and 12 years while the expected lifespan of German Shepherds of between 7 to 14 years. Nevertheless, dogs often surpass their expected lifespans. With a high-quality diet, ample exercise, and regular access to veterinary care, a happy Rhodesian Ridgeback-German Shepherd mix can easily live well beyond 10 years old. You might find a breeder mating these two breeds in pursuit of a designer working dog. Each of these two breeds is more valuable as purebreds. For this reason, their respective breeders find no motivation in crossing the two. These dogs are not suitable for first-time owners or those who are not willing to put in the time and effort required to train them properly. This mix is an active breed that needs plenty of exercise. A daily walk is a minimum, and they will also enjoy hiking, running, and playing fetch. This breed is not suited for life in an apartment or small home; they need a yard where they can run and explore. Socialization is also important for this breed, as they can be suspicious of strangers if not properly introduced to them from an early age. With proper training and socialization, the Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd mix can be a loving, loyal companion. Rhodesian Shepherd — Are they Aggressive? The Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd Mix is a large, powerful dog that was originally bred for hunting. However, this aggressive streak can also make them difficult to handle, and they are not recommended for first-time dog owners. As a loyal and protective dog, they can be very suspicious of strangers. If not properly socialized, they may become aggressive toward people and other animals. In addition, this mix is a high-energy dog that needs plenty of exercise. Without an outlet for their energy, they may become destructive or even aggressive. For these reasons, it is important to consider whether or not this mixed breed is the right breed for you before making a commitment. This high-energy breed needs at least an hour of exercise every day. A Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd Mix is the perfect companion for runs, hikes, and any other outdoor activity you can think of. Mental Stimulation The Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd mix is an intelligent breed that requires regular mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy. One way to do this is to give them puzzle toys filled with treats, which will keep them occupied and mentally challenged. With a little effort, you can ensure that your Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd mix stays happy and mentally stimulated. They need to be groomed on a regular basis. The Ridgeback Shepherd is not a hypoallergenic breed, so they do shed relatively frequently. As a result, they will require daily brushing in order to keep their coat healthy and free of tangles. They should also be bathed on a monthly basis, using a mild shampoo to avoid drying out their skin. With proper grooming, this mix will be a handsome and healthy dog. As a result, they inherit many of the same health conditions as their parent breeds. However, there are steps that owners can take to help their dogs stay healthy. For example, regular exercise and a healthy diet can help to prevent obesity, which is a major risk factor for many health problems. Additionally, keeping up with routine vaccinations and vet check-ups can help to catch any potential health problems early on. With proper care, Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherds can enjoy long, happy lives. Rhodesian Shepherd — What should they eat? As any pet owner knows, what you feed your animal companion can have a big impact on their health and well-being. While there is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, there are a few general guidelines that can help you make the best choice for your dog. The Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd mix is a large, powerful dog with a strong prey drive. This can make them difficult to socialize with other dogs and can also make them a danger to smaller pets. This is because they are loyal, protective, and patient. As a result, young children should always be supervised when around a Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd. Rhodesian Shepherd — Do they Drool? One of the less desirable traits of this breed is their tendency to drool. While all dogs produce saliva, some breeds are more prone to slobbering and drooling than others. The reason for these drooling tendencies is the shape of their skull and muzzle. This structure allows more saliva to pool in their mouth, which leads to drooling. In addition, this breed is also known for being very food-motivated, which can further contribute to drooling behavior. If you are considering adding a Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd to your family, be prepared to deal with some drool. However, regular grooming and cleaning can help to minimize the mess. Rhodesian Shepherd — Weather They can be sensitive to weather changes. While all dogs can be affected by extreme weather conditions, some breeds are more prone to problems than others. The Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd is one of those breeds. This type of coat does not provide much insulation, making the dog more susceptible to cold weather. In addition, this breed is also known for being very active. As a result, they may have difficulty regulating their body temperature in hot weather. If you are considering adding this mixed breed to your family, be prepared to deal with some weather-related issues. Life Expectancy The Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd is a mixed breed of dog with an average life expectancy of 14 years. This lifespan is about average for most dogs, but it is on the shorter end for large breeds. Large breeds are more likely to experience health problems and joint issues than smaller breeds. Always have your puppy checked every six months to correct possible dermoid conditions. Both breeds are also susceptible to skin, ear, and eye infections — try your best to be on the lookout for any signs of irritation or infection on these body parts. If your pup continually scratches any of these areas, you may need to have it checked out by your veterinarian. Tip: Great breeders always ensure that they are breeding from healthy parents. Pacing — when your dog continually walks back and forth, it is a sign that is stressed or anxious. Iheartdogs explains that this happens when a dog is in a very small enclosure or on a leash, and they are feeling suffocated. Lip-licking — lip-licking or lip flicking they bring their tongue in and out for no reason is also a sign that your dog is stressed. If you notice that your GSD and Rhodesian Ridgeback mix is drooling for no reason, take it to your vet immediately. Scratching — if your Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd mix continually scratches its ears, tails, or a part of its body, check it out for any signs of rashes and other infections. $200 german shepherd puppies nc - Let us provide you with a Labradoodle puppy and a forever friend. About Us The start! Tonia LeFrancois owner of Triangle Labradoodles started this dream with family in mind! Her son was born with several allergies that would keep him from having a puppy. Tonia feels that every little childs life is not complete with out a puppy. After months of research we found the Australian labradoodle to be the best fit for us. With the help of Jenny Blume at Swinging gate kennels we provided our family a loving female named Aspen. Aspen stole every heart in the family and know her son has his best friend! Now we would like to offer that option to others so they too can have a dog in their family. This is why here at Triangle Labradoodles we want to provide quality pets to other familes that need a best friend. With this in mind all puppies here at Triangle labradoodles are raised in our home with 3 children as part of our family so they will fit in well with yours. Staying true to the vision of those who founded this incredible breed is an important element of our breeding philosophy. A proud member of the Australian Labradoodle Club of America, it is our goal to provide the most loving environment possible for our puppies. We will only work with the best breeders available to provide the highest quality and healthiest doodles around. We will strive for a low volume high quality approach for producing puppies. We are not a kennel and all puppies are raised in our home as part of the family. The Australian Labradoodle is different from all other labradoodles. Dogs from this cross typically were bred to each other over future generations, whereby the Australian dogs are also know as "Multi-generational" Labradoodles. The resulting labradoodles subsequently have been bred to each other, continuing the multi-generational tradition. Even when the other types of Labradoodles are bred on for generations, the result is not an Australian Labradoodle, as the attributes of the infused breeds were not included in their ancestry. The Australian Labradoodle Club of America was founded exclusively to foster and protect the original Australian Labradoodles that have come directly from Tegan Park and Rutland Manor breeding stock, or their offspring. Our mission is to maintain and improve the quality and soundness of the Australian Labradoodles, and to carefully monitor the further development of the breed. All member breeders are carefully screened to help ensure the future of the Australian Labradoodle. Our member breeders must breed to the highest standards. We have Breeder Mentors to assist member breeders and to help new breeders get off to a good start. The goal was to join with breeders across America in the development of a pure breed dog and to unite these breeding programs for one common cause, the preservation of the Authentic Australian Labradoodle. Our breed is in its final stage and is renowned for its amazing traits and has proven to be consistent and reliable. Its intuitive nature, uncanny ability to sense and in some cases self teach the art of being a medical alert dog, the direct eye to eye contact and their desire to please makes them one of the most trainable dogs in America. This breed is hypoallergenic, non shedding and is one of the most sought after dogs in America. Our goal is to protect and improve the breed health as we move towards pure breed status. Contact Us. Sweetly Retired Stormie G. We take so much pride in our doodles. They are the funniest, smartest, cutest, little guys, so much personality. Bred for their wonderful temperament, intuitive nature and overall character; they are non-shedding and don't carry doggie odors. They undergo temperament testing and a host of socialization opportunities are provided as grands come and go, neighbors drop by for cuddles, kitchen noises, loud televisions, children running about, birds singing and dogs barking; extra cuddles, visits by the other doodle family members and on and on. All of our dogs live here in the house with us. Guardian puppies live with their own loving families but visit often. Mama doodles are whelped here and baby doodles are appropriately exposed to a busy family lifestyle. All of our doodles receive the best in health care, as puppies themselves, before breeding, during and after, because we quite simply just love them to pieces and they deserve it. They have a team of vets, health testing, repoduction management, attend NC State Therinology clinic for ultrasounds, progesterone testing, cardiac testing, etc. So if you see a tear drop or two as you close the door, know that it is the love that has been there before. Thanks to her socialization, the beginning of crate and house training, and tons of love, Fisher acclimated to our home and family right away. We got a steady stream of videos and pictures, as well as results from temperament testing. We knew him before we ever brought him home and she even had us send items that had our scent, to familiarize him with us! Communication was open and encouraged.
